He's a Cute Jerk

The Heartbreaker's Game

Eun Hae’s POV

I stared at the empty parking lot, wondering how the am I going back to my house now that that stupid made me missed my bus. I kicked pebbles on the ground in frustration. I wanted to tear my hair out.

Ugggh, damn that Yongguk and extremely cute guy!

Speaking of which, what the hell was his problem, anyway? He kissed me out of random! He’s no better than Yongguk . . . though I have to admit that I rather enjoyed it. His lips were soft and warm and . . .

What the hell am I thinking?

I slapped myself. Get a grip of yourself, woman, I scolded myself mentally. I glanced around the empty parking lot again. Great. If only I knew where the nearest bus station is. Better get a move on.

If I’m back late, not only will I get fired from my job but Changjo will be disappointed in me. This is just brilliant. Just ing brilliant!

I will kill Yongguk.

Just as I took a step forward, I heard a beep behind me.

I turned to see a white car behind me. The heck? I wasn’t even in it’s way. But then the car stopped in front of me and the window rolled down—revealing the cute guy’s face. I gasped.

He’s stalking me?

“Hi,” he said pleasantly. “Need a ride?”

I narrowed my eyes at him. “I don’t take rides from strangers.” No matter how cute.

He shrugged. “I’m Lu Han,” he said as if it would change things. “There, you know my name. I helped you find your bag. You repaid me with a kiss. We’re not strangers anymore, right?” He flashed a winning smile.

I glared at him, my eyes blazing with fury. Who the hell does this creep think he is? “No thanks,” I replied coolly.

“You’re stuck here with no transport home and I’ve got a car,” he pointed out. “I could take you home.”

I shook my head. “I’m fine.”

“Don’t be so stubborn.”

“Leave me alone.”

He frowned and got out of the car. He walked over to me. I tried to walk pass him but he held onto my wrist firmly. I squeaked a little as he turned me around to face him. His gaze was so intense. I gulped.

Is he going to try again?

But then he softened as he studied my facial expression. “Come on,” he said gently. Then he smirked. “I’m not going to bite. . . . Unless you want me to.” He winked and I nearly kneeled over.

I coughed. Then I hesitated. “I guess I can,” I replied slowly.

He nodded and opened the passenger’s door for me. Then he scurried back to the driver’s seat and drove away. “I’ll take you to lunch first,” he said, eyeing my grumbling stomach. “So, I didn’t quite catch your name.”

“That’s because I didn’t throw it,” I replied, amused. “It’s Eun Hae.”

“Eun Hae,” he repeated. He smiled to himself and I glanced at him inquisitively. “That’s a pretty name for a cute girl like you.”

I blushed. He’s just flirting with me. He probably didn’t mean them. Silence filled the car. “So, er, where are you from?” I asked curiously after a while. “You don’t look as though you’re local.”

He smirked and turned to me briefly. “Care about me, hmmm?”

I rolled my eyes. “It’s not that,” I replied defensively. “I’m just trying to make small talk so it wouldn’t awkward in the car.”

“I’m actually an alien from Planet Exo,” he said.

I sighed. “If you don’t want to tell me, it’s fine,” I snapped at him. “I’m not interested, remember?”

He shrugged, keeping a hand on the wheel while the other ran through his hair. I now saw that it wasn’t blonde — it was very light brown. “I’m pretty sure this is your way of making an excuse just to talk to me and find out more about me,” he replied cockily.

“Fine, don’t tell me,” I snapped. “I’m not interested anyways.”

“Oooh, someone’s defensive.”

I rolled my eyes. Jerk.

We went back to the awkward silence while I gloomily stared out of the window, wishing that I didn’t have to join him for lunch.

“China.”

I looked him, baffled. But I’m pretty sure he was the one that spoke. “Huh?” I asked him blankly. What nonsense is he sprouting about now? China? What about China?

He glanced back at me. “I’m from China,” he replied. “But I took up languages courses so that’s how I learned how to speak fluent Korean. So I guess you could say that I’m here for a little holiday.”

“Oh.” It took me a while to get that he had answered my question. “So, which hotel are you staying in, then?” I cringed as soon as the words left my mouth. I sound like some creepy stalker.

But if he noticed it, he didn’t say it. In fact, he turned to me with a pitiful look that was simply too adorable. Wait, no mno, stop thinking about that. “Ah, that’s the thing,” he said a little sheepishly and rubbed his nape with a free hand. “I just arrived today so I’m not sure. I leased this car hoping I can drive around, looking for hotels to stay in. But so far I haven’t had any luck. They were all full.” He sighed, turning back to the road. “Could you help me out?”

I shrugged. “I’m sorry but I know nuts about hotels,” I replied apologetically. “You’re asking the wrong person. Maybe you can check it online at some free wifi shop or something?” I suggested so it won’t looked like I was complete useless.

He glanced at me with an amused expression. “Actually, I was hoping that you’d let me stay at your home,” he replied slowly.

I gaped at him as I grasped what he was saying. Is he serious? He just met me! Judging by his serious expression, I’m guessing he’s not. “No way!” I exclaimed, my face turning red at the thought of him living in the same apartment as me. What would people think if they knew?

Auntie Yu Jun will have a fit. Changjo would lecture me. Daeseul would probably squeal and ask me every day if we’re having (I shuddered at this thought). And Yongguk would probably spread rumours about what a I am.

“Come on,” he urged. “We’re friends, aren’t we?”

I sighed. “I have no idea where you get these stupid notions from but let me make this clear to you: we are not friends. Just because you kissed me —”

“Which you enjoyed it,” he interrupted. When he saw that I was glowering, unimpressed, at him, he shrugged a non-committal shrug. “Please, do continue.”

“Just because you kissed me — and no, I did not enjoy it —” He smirked but I went on, “— and just because you helped me and I let you treat me to lunch does not mean that we are friends. And you are not living with me.”

He pouted. “Pleeeeeaaaassseeee.”

Ohmigoodness. He’s. So. Freakin’. Adorable! I wanted to reach out and pinch him on his cheeks! Argh!

“It’s only for a couple of days,” he promised.

We had reached the restaurant. I got out and shook my head adamantly. “No way,” I said stubbornly. “I’m not letting you stay with me.”

He led me inside the restaurant and the waiter led us to our table. “But I don’t know anyone else here in Korea! I know we just met and all, but trust me when I say I’d rather have you showing me around than anyone else.”

I blushed at the compliment, sitting down.

After we ordered our food and everything, the waiter left, leaving the two of us alone. It was only then that I had realized Lu Han had requested for some privacy so the waiter had led us to a corner of the restaurant where there were practically no one sitting anywhere near us within the range of five feet.

I’m not joking. It’s really empty.

I looked at him and found myself lost into those wide, warm, brown and extremely cute guys. He pouted, sticking his bottom lip out. Damn, he does extremely good aegyo, I thought trying to gather logical and sensible thoughts back into my mind but failed miserably.

“Pleeaaasseee?”

My brain was whirring but I couldn’t think straight. I couldn’t focus. All I could think of was how cute he was and how much I wanted to pinch his cheeks right now.

“Fine. You can stay.”

Wait, what the hell did I just say?!

Suddenly the cute and playful Lu Han was gone, replaced by a smirk and arrogant atmosphere in the air. “I knew you couldn’t resist me,” he replied. “I’m too good-looking and charming for the ladies to not want me.”

“Excuse me while I puke,” I mumbled and I stood up to leave because I cannot stand his cockiness and arrogance but for some weird and strange reason, I didn’t stand up. No matter how hard I willed myself to stand up, I remained seated. I tried to push my chair back but when I did, it just moved forward, toppling me over until I sat back down. I turned to Lu Han who looked at me innocently.

He frowned when he saw that I have been staring at him for quite some time now. “Do I have something on my face?” he asked, reaching out to touch his face to check if there was anything.

“Yeah, your ugliness,” I muttered sullenly under my breath so low that even I barely heard myself.

His frowned deepened as though he had heard my comment. But how did he? I was sure my voice was low! “Yah, that’s not very nice,” he replied smoothly. “Anyway, what’s wrong? You look frustrated.”

After a few more tries, I gave up. Then I felt myself loosening up. What the hell? What sorcery is this?

“So, Jung Eun Hae, tell me about yourself,” he asked, smiling.

I frowned, a thought flashing before my mind. “I don’t remember ever telling you what my surname was,” I replied.

He shrugged. “Oh, right.” He waved a hand offhandedly. “Yeah, when I found your bag, I checked through to see if there was any identification. I found your purse with your ID card there, so . . .” He smiled.

“You —”

“Your drinks,” the waiter said, coming back with our drinks. He set them before us and left again.

“Anyway, can I ask you something?” he asked me.

“Sure, why not?” I grumbled. “It’s not like I have a choice to say either yes or no because you’ll still ask.”

He ignored me. “Would your parents mind about the fact that I will be staying with you?” he asked.

I kept quiet. I didn’t want him to know that my parents don’t live with me. Heck, I don’t even have parents. But I knew I had to answer him eventually. “Well, they won’t, because they’re not there.”

He raised an eyebrow. “Where are they?”

“Overseas,” I replied, “for a business trip. They’ll be gone for about two months so I’m glad my cousin is still here to help.”

Lu Han’s eyebrows went even higher, if that was even possible. A little smile tugged on the corner of his mouth. “So you’re telling me that you’re letting me stay in your house, where your parents aren’t even home?”

I nodded slowly.

He shook his head. “Wow, Eun Hae, I didn’t think you’re this kind of person.” He held his hand up. “Please, I know I’m extremely good-looking and I think you’re very attractive and I definitely wouldn’t mind jumping in your pants, but I do want to be polite and not stir anything up. Okay?”

I stared at him, baffled. I wasn’t sure whether I should laugh or cry. Or dump my cold drink on him.

He may be cute and all, but he’s a total jerk.

What have I gotten myself into?

Chapter 10: I like that she does not let YongGuk disrespect her but I'm a little annoyed as in how easy she let LuHan convince her and be as rude as YongGuk is (without the ual harrassment of course) and let it slide.
