He didn't greet him back, instead, he whipped his head back so that he was staring at her with an almost disbelieving look on his face. “Him?”

“Yeah, it was just a few minutes before you came in. I'm sorry, Yeol.” At that moment she looked so sorry that he felt all the angry air rush out of his lungs, so he was just left standing there, staring at the space behind her because he was too embarrassed to look her in the eye. He clenched his jaws tight at the weird hollow feeling inside the cavity of his chest that's tinged with confusion and a little bit of rejection.

“Chanyeol, Yeol? Hey,” Haneul murmured softly, when he didn't say anything, she took his hand in hers while still holding the tray in the other. She gave his hand little squeezes, to get his attention. “I'll call you later on, okay? We can go eat at Pizza Pizza tomorrow night, hmmm?”

He lifted his eyes to hers, slowly, hesitantly and even though he really shouldn't, they flickered down to her lips – which were curled slightly in a worried frown – for just a split second before going back to meet her eyes.

She didn't seem to have caught that little switch in his attention – actually, she did – so he figured that it was time for him to stop and leave while he still had his dignity left. “It's fine, we can go there whenever, it's no big deal.”

“Really?” She asked, a small glint of hope laced in her voice.

He smiled a little, then flipped their linked hands – away from Kris's view – and gently swiped his thumb across the bumps and dents of her knuckles. “Yeah.”

Then he let her hand go.

“Hey, nice to see you too man.” He turned back to Kris, who was quietly sipping his latte. “You two enjoy your dinner tonight.”

Kris looked taken aback for a moment, but nevertheless composed himself and smiled at him. “Thanks, will do.”

It all happened in a blur afterwards, he went to the counter with Haneul and got two tuna croissants, a cup of iced Americano and a cup of Caramel and Hazelnut Frappuccino to go. He waited outside the cafe, staring at the pebbled street and then the bell chimed to notify him of the doors opening and he looked up.

“Here.” Haneul came up to him and handed him the bags of food.

“Mmmm, thank you.” He accepted the food, and then spoke again before she could get away from him.

If he wasn't going to see her later on, then he'd just have to make it quick and do it now. There was something that he just had to know. “Neul?”
