Chapter 38

JUST Common Sense

No One's POV

A smooth three weeks have passed by since then. It would have been a lie if Soyoung said it was awkward between her and Luhan, because after that day, the two seemed better than never.

To the guys, it was odd that Soyoung and Luhan weren’t trying to rip off each other’s head, but Luhan and Soyoung knew better than that now. If others want to call it maturing, sure, it can be called that, but in this case, instead of maturing, they call it growing closer. Losing the gap.

The guys, along with Soyoung and her two besties, hung out more often now, and even still, Zico still found no liking to Luhan. Of course, everyone else could tell, but they didn’t do anything about it because they all found it very funny. Especially funny, because Luhan shared mutual feelings towards Zico himself.

As smooth as their relationship goes, Luhan had been slightly troubled these past few weeks. He couldn’t quite put a finger on what the problem was, but he knew what the cause of these odd thoughts and confusion was. It was Soyoung herself that had caused his confusion.

He sat on the arm chair to the right, his eyes flitting to the TV screen and back to Soyoung once every five minutes, not that anyone noticed.

All 14 boys sat in Kris’s living room, along with Soyoung herself, as they enjoyed the movie night they all had planned a week before, just for the heck of it.

Luhan hadn’t been paying attention to the movie at all that was playing, which was “The Werewolf Boy” in which Song JoongKi starred in. For one, he had already seen the movie tons of times, and for two, he was more curious about Soyoung herself.

She hadn’t been showing any expression since the beginning of the movie, and even now, with the movie coming to an end, she wasn’t showing any signs of crying either. From what Luhan had heard about this movie, many tends to end up in tears, but Soyoung didn’t even seemed to have been moved by the time the movie had ended.

“Who was the one to choose this movie again?” Kai questioned as he put his feet up onto the table.

“Yixing,” Kris replied curtly as he went to search for more movies on Netflix.

“It’s my first time seeing it,” Yixing admitted with a sheepish smile. “I wanted to watch it with someone, but because things have been busy, I couldn’t find the time to watch it. Then you guys suggested to have a movie night, so I thought why not watch it with you guys. You guys must’ve been bored.”

“Hell yeah we were,” Sehun muttered, earning snickers from some of the guys. “Just because we’ve seen it so many times.”

“Well, I guess it can’t be helped that you guys had to watch it another time,” Yixing shrugged. “Soyoung, how many times have you seen the movie?”

“Me?” Soyoung snapped her head to look at Yixing. “This is my first time.”

Her response earned heads to turn her way in disbelief.

“It is?” Kyung questioned, not knowing this fact about his best friend. “I swear you’ve seen it at least once.”

Soyoung shook her head, “This really is my first time watching it.” She yawned and stood up. “I’ll be back. I’m gonna go to the restroom really quick.”

She left the boys in wonder.

“Well, what do you guys want to watch now?” Kris asked as he flipped passed through the many options.

“Let’s just watch a drama,” Tao suggested as he hugged a pillow close to him. “So it’s on-going and easier to just watch through. If we choose different movies, it’ll be tiring to keep having to think of what to watch.”

“I second that idea,” Xiumin yawned, resting his head on Chen’s shoulder.

“Then what drama should we watch?” Kris passed the controller over to Zico, who lazily chose something to watch.

“I’m sure you all have seen Boys Over Flowers before,” Zico said, setting the controller down on the table. “But let’s just watch that for the heck of it.”

“I’ve actually never seen it before,” Tao brought up.

“Same here,” Yixing straightened up, excited for the drama. “I never really had the time to watch it.”

“It came out since 2009,” Chanyeol rolled his eyes.

“Has it really already been 5 years?” Baekhyun grinned. “It’s not a bad drama though. Luhan, have you seen it before?”

“Only the first episode,” he replied truthfully, yet shortly. He wasn’t really on the idea of watching a whole drama, mainly because they probably won’t even finish watching it.

Soyoung came back to the guys only to see that Kai, who had previously sat on the floor, had taken her spot on the couch, leaving her no room. Without even saying anything, mainly because she didn’t really care of where she sat, Soyoung made her way to the armchair Luhan sat in, and sat in front of him on the floor. Hopefully he won’t mind.

And even though Luhan didn’t mind, he sure did notice. Even though it wasn’t intended for him to notice that she was sitting in front of him, he couldn’t help but feel excitement that she was right here in front of him. He quietly cleared his throat to hide the smile that was threatening to appear on his face.

Kris turned off the lights once again as the first episode began to play.

As the first episode came to an end, Soyoung only realized then that her back was fully pressed against the armchair and that Luhan, who was sitting in a criss-cross position, was playing with her hair.

Luhan, on the other hand, had been aware of what was happening, and even adding on, he liked that he was able to be close to her like this. It felt right.

Soyoung waved the situation aside. After all, it felt nice that they were in this position. She liked it, although she wouldn’t admit it to anyone. Ever.

She took out her phone to analyze the time only to shriek. It was already 10PM. Her parents told her to be home by 9PM, because an important guest was to be there at about 9:30PM. Even though her parents weren’t home, she had promised them that she would take care of the guest well until they return, although she never got an exact date of when they would return. How could she have forgotten?

Without warning, she stood up, surprising Luhan and the others.

“What’s wrong?” Zico asked before Luhan could voice the question.

“I was supposed to be home by 9,” Soyoung sulked as she hurriedly put on her shoes. “I forgot that we have a guest over at 9:30. I lost track of time, and it’s already 10!”

Before Zico could get it, Luhan voluntarily rushed over to the door to put his shoes on. “I’ll take you home then,” he replied curtly, reaching for his coat and putting it on. “My parents told me about it too. I’m supposed to help you with the guest.” He opened the door.

“Sorry, guys!” Soyoung apologized, giving a few bows. “I’ll see you guys tomorrow or so!”

Luhan quickly pulled Soyoung after him, rushing her in his car.

Once he got in, he started the car right away before driving to their destination.

“I can’t believe I forgot!” Soyoung stressed as she continued looking at the screen of her phone, making sure she didn’t miss any text or calls. “I even told them I wouldn’t forget!”

A deep frown was evident on her face, and Luhan couldn’t help but laugh. It was quite funny how she was taking this situation.

“Why didn’t you remind me?” she tossed him a glare. “You should’ve remembered if you knew.”

“I lied back there, actually. I have no idea you have a guest, nor did my parents tell me to accompany you and your guest.” It was only normal for Luhan to speak the truth now that they weren’t back there anymore. “It was boring back there, so I just thought it’d be nice to come back home, and you were my perfect excuse.”

Soyoung scoffed slightly and returned her attention to her phone with a puzzled expression. “Do you think my guest will still be there? I haven’t got anything from my parents.”

“Well, if your guest was supposed to be there by 9:30, I don’t think she’ll be there anymore.”

Soyoung could only sigh, knowing that Luhan was most likely right.

The two quickly reached her house only to spot a figure sitting on the pavement of her driveway.

Soyoung’s eyes widened in shock.

“Oh my gosh, he’s been waiting this whole time!” Soyoung darted out of the car and ran towards the guy while Luhan’s brows furrow. So the guest was a man, not a woman.

The guest looked up from his phone upon hearing her approach him. Realizing that Soyoung was probably the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kim, he smiled. “You’re here.”

“I am so sorry!” Soyoung immediately apologized. She was truly sorry for coming so late, especially when it was night time. At a time like this, people were usually sleeping already, and here she was, keeping her guest wake because she wasn’t here. “I had forgotten that you were to be here at 9:30. I really didn’t mean to come late!”

“It’s fine, really,” the guest laughed. He glanced behind Soyoung. The person behind Luhan didn’t seem to be happy that he was here. “Is that your boyfriend?”

Soyoung raised brows and glanced at Luhan, who was standing behind her.

“And if I am her boyfriend?” Luhan questioned. He definitely wasn’t liking the fact that this guest was a man. Did Soyoung’s parents really trust this man to have him spend the night with her alone? What if Luhan wasn’t here?

“What are you saying?” Soyoung shot him a slight glare, muttering her words. She turned the guest with a smile. “He’s not my boyfriend. He’s just a friend and a neighbor. He lives right across the street.”

“I see,” the guest nodded with a grin. “That’s nice to know then, that he’s nothing but a friend. My name’s Lee Taemin, by the way. And yours is Kim Soyoung, correct?”

Soyoung nodded with a delighted smile. The guest was quite handsome, with a definitely lovely smile, and to know that he knew her name made her happy. “Correct.”

“And my name’s Luhan,” Luhan butted in with an eye roll. “Why are you here anyways? I’m quite curious.”

“Luhan,” Soyoung nudged him, trying to tell him to not be rude.

“To see my future wife, of course.” Taemin smiled and grabbed the handle of his suitcase while Luhan and Soyoung flipped at his response. “I wouldn’t want to marry someone I don’t know, so I came here to get to know her first.”

“I think you have the wrong person,” Luhan quickly responded, gawking at the guy's response. The dislike for this so-called guest only grew.

“I’m going to have to second that,” Soyoung agreed. This guest may have been handsome, but his mind seems to work like a pig’s. Seriously, future wife? Whut even.

Taemin chuckled. Their reactions were priceless. “I’m just kidding. Can’t you guys take a joke? So, where am I rooming today? At your place or your neighbor’s?”

“What?” Soyoung quickly registered his words before she smiled. He better have been joking. “Oh, well, of course my—“

“Do you really have to ask? Of course you’re sleeping at my place,” Luhan replied before Soyoung could even voice her answer. “Guys with guys. Why would you even ask a woman that? Sheesh.” Luhan glanced at Soyoung. “Go inside. It’s late.”

Grabbing Taemin’s suitcase, he turned around and headed towards his house, leaving both Taemin and Soyoung stunned.

“Well, I guess I should follow him then.” Taemin smiled and ruffled her hair. “Good night, wifey.”

And she was left stunned by the two men that was heading towards the house across from hers.

Waking up early the next morning wasn’t easy. After all, Soyoung never did like waking up early, so to rise at such an early time put her in a sour mood. Waking up early for the guest that wasn’t even in her home. He should be grateful that Soyoung was going out of her way for him.

Just as she came out from the bathroom, her phone buzzed, earning itself a text. Grabbing it and unplugging it from the charger, she slid her finger over the screen to open the text that was sent from Luhan.

She read his text and quickly replied back before throwing her phone onto the bed to change.

“Where is he?” Soyoung whispered as Luhan moved aside to let her in.

“In the guest’s room,” Luhan yawned, closing the door.

“Are your parents not home?” She took off her shoes and glanced at the male behind her.

“They won’t be home until night.” Luhan urged her to go up the stairs. The guest in his house at this very moment, he really wanted to throw him out, and Soyoung was the only way he would go.

“Are you tired?” She questioned him. The bags under his eyes were visible and not very appealing. She pitied him, almost. She could tell that he was just as tired as she was.

“I’m pretty sure the answer is pretty obvious.” The annoyance in his voice was evidence, and it made Soyoung smile. He was right anyways. It was really obvious. Once they reached the guest’s room, Luhan glanced at Soyoung. “How are you going to take care of him?”

“What did he do that makes you annoyed?” She laughed quietly, not wanting Taemin to know that they were both outside of his door. “Was he being loud or something?”

Luhan crossed his arms and leaned against the wall. “He woke me up just to ask me annoying questions. And he wouldn’t stop, even when my replies were all the same. ‘I don’t know’.”

“Then how did you get him to shut up and go back to his room?”

“I told him I won’t let him see you,” Luhan shrugged and looked away. “That’s how.”

The female laugh with a shake of her head. She knocked on the door. “Taemin, I’m coming in.”

Before she could open the door, the door swung open, and there stood the handsome guy that came just last night. His smile was definitely flawless and Soyoung couldn’t help but feel butterflies.

“Good morning, beautiful,” Taemin winked. “How was your sleep?” If he was, at all, surprised by Soyoung’s appearance, he didn’t show it. In fact, the fact that Soyoung was even there seemed to have pleased him.

“Beautiful?” Luhan gawked.

Just how cheesy can this guy get, and not to mention, flirty?

“Soyoung’s a rare beauty, so of course, beautiful.” Taemin smiled, not glancing away from the female at all.

Quite flustered, she couldn’t help but let the blood flow to her cheeks. It wasn’t every day when you hear someone call you beautiful. “I had a nice sleep, thanks.” She cleared and pursed her lips. “So, uhm. My parents didn’t exactly tell me why you’re in town.”

“Oh, so you came here to let me tell you?” Taemin leaned against the door frame, crossing his arms as Soyoung nodded. He grinned. “I won’t be here for long. I’ll probably only spend about one week here before I get moving again, so how about you give me all of your time for my stay here in exchange for the reason why I’m here in the first place. I can guarantee you that your parents won’t tell you.”

“Give you all of her time?!” Luhan fumed. Since the beginning of just knowing he was a male, Luhan knew he was going to be bad luck. “Are you crazy? She has things to do too, you know.”

Taemin averted his attention to the male beside Soyoung and scoffed slightly. “I asked for her time, not yours.”

Before Luhan could stir up more trouble, Soyoung jumped in. “And how are you so sure my parents won’t tell me?”

And once again, the sweet smile Taemin gave her appeared on his face as he looked at her once more. “Because it’s a secret I’ve asked them to keep. I’m not dangerous, beautiful, so don’t worry about getting eat up by me. How about it?”

“Well…” Soyoung averted eyes, feeling slightly small in Taemin’s gaze. He was right. He didn’t seem dangerous at all, but still. He seemed like a promising person, and the gaze he gave her was definitely one of gentle, but even so, he’s a man. Nonetheless, a man she didn’t even know.

“Your parents entrusted me to stay in your house alone with you for one whole week,” Taemin reasoned. “That means they really do trust me to look after you. Trust them about this, and trust me. Plus, Jellyfish over there will look over us.”

“Who are you calling a Jellyfish?” Luhan glared at the guy. He was downright annoyed since minute one. The guy seemed to have been openly flirting with Soyoung. Though Luhan could care less, Soyoung was still his neighbor and his friend. It was only right to keep other men from flirting like that towards her. Although Luhan has to admit, he didn’t like the attention Soyoung was giving Taemin. Especially the fact that everything Luhan had said so far since the second Taemin opened the door was being ignored by the female in front of Luhan, himself.

Because she wasn’t sure what Taemin had meant by them spending time together, she hesitated with her answer in which was a positive response. “Fine, I’ll give you one week of my time to you.” And her reply only received a gawk from Luhan.

“Great! I’m looking forward to today then, my beautiful wife.” Taemin ruffled her hair with a great smile. “Where are we going first?”

“Whoa, wait up, boy!” Luhan stopped in between the two. He glared at Taemin. “The day barely even started, so go back into the room and stay there until I say so.” He pushed Taemin back further into the room before closing it. He turned around immediately and shot lasers at the female. “You, come with me.”

Grabbing her wrist before she could respond, Luhan dragged her out of his house. Once they were outside, he closed the front door and let her wrist free. “Soyoung, are you crazy?! How can you just give in to him like that? For all we know, he can be some dangerous or serial killer, and here you are, telling him you’ll spend every single second of the day and week with him—”

“First of all!” Soyoung frowned at him. She wasn't fond of the words he had chosen, and she definitely hated hearing those words. “We know that he’s anything but those things, especially with the fact that my parents trusted him to stay in the house with me for that amount of time. Second, why are you being so moody so early? Didn’t you say you were tired? I’m taking him away, so you can go sleep. You should be happy.”

“Well, I’m not happy.” He tightened his jaw and stared down at her. “Okay, so he’s not a or any type of serial killer, but you’ve got to remember that he’s a man. Even though your parents have trusted him to sleep in the damn house as you, you can’t guarantee what he can do, whether he can stop himself or not. No matter how kind a man can be, no matter how much respect he can give a woman, when a man needs that specific something, he’s pretty much unstoppable. You can’t just let him use your time like that. It’s dangerous. He's dangerous, especially because you don't even know him.”

Soyoung wanted to laugh at his words, but stopped herself. For one, she found his reason to be slightly hilarious, yet she knows it’s reasonable. For two, he was being ridiculous right now. “Luhan,” Soyoung sighed with a smile. “Calm down.” And the laugh came out. Soyoung grabbed his hand gave them a squeeze in which Luhan’s tight frowned loosened. “I know what you’re saying, but look. If my parents can trust him, then in terms of being in one house when sleeping, I have to trust him too. I mean, yes, I guess he can be dangerous in that aspect but still… I mean, look at us! Look at you. You’re a man yourself, and in terms of needing that… specific something, my parents still trusted me to be with you. Even I, myself, trust you to be with you. Remember that time when we had to do our projects? There were days when I stayed over until 4 AM, just because I napped some time earlier. Even then, you were just as yourself. You’re nowhere near dangerous. I’m sure Taemin’s the same too.”

Though her words were quite cheesy to hear, Luhan melted inside. She had admitted herself. She trusted him, and that was all that mattered. That meant that Luhan was important to her, too. Yes. Too.

Luhan sighed in defeat, though not wanting to show that he was moved by her words. “I don’t like the guy at all… But if you’re going to trust him, like your parents, I have no choice but to trust him as well, right? Fine then, I’ll trust him with you, but you have to promise to keep your distance with him during the night, okay? I would have him sleep at my place, but I’m going to be sleeping at Yixing’s place to help him with composing for a competition he’s entering, so I won’t be here much.”

Soyoung smiled and nodded. “I know, he told me.”

Luhan nodded with pursed lips. “Spend your time well with him then, and don’t forget that if you need me, you can phone me at any time.”

She laughed with a nod. It was amazing how Luhan could be so understanding in this way and offer such kind words. She pulled her hands away and patted his shoulders. “Go tell Taemin to come down and wait for me at my porch. I’m going to go grab my wallet.”

Before Luhan could reply, Soyoung ran over to her house and stepped inside, only leaving Luhan to sulk alone. Nonetheless, he went inside to get the guy.

“Go wait for her at her place.” Luhan didn’t look at the guy at all as he opened the door and stood there. “She’ll come out in a minute.”

Taemin smiled and patted Luhan’s shoulders when he reached the door. “I’ll treat her well and make sure she has fun. Don’t worry.”

And like that the guest left the house, leaving Luhan alone with his thoughts.

The feeling of wanting to hold Taemin back and lock him up in the room was there. The feeling of wanting to be the one who would be spending the whole day, the whole week in fact, with Soyoung was there. The feeling of wanting to keep Taemin from Soyoung in any possible way was there.

Luhan was being difficult with himself, and he didn’t like that he was being so protective of Soyoung. He slammed his door when he got into his room and slumped onto his blankets. Letting the blankets hug him closer, he closed his eyes and let out a breath.

Today was going to be one long day.
