Chapter 8

JUST Common Sense

Luhan's POV

My dad had told me to go pick up my grandma’s medicine at the pharmacy today. She’s going to be staying at our place for a while but she hasn’t arrived yet. I’m gonna have to go pick her up later tonight, but for now, I gotta go pick up the medicine before my dad goes all crazy at me.

Earlier, they had suggested that I go hang out with Soyoung and her friends.

Nahh, was all I told them.

Yeah, I rejected the idea.

Why would I wanna hang out with her when I have my own friends to hang out with? It’s like they’re saying I’m some loner with no friends or something. Do they not remember that they gave birth to one handsome son?

Tsk.

So I was driving my car and was coming back home and passed Pyeongsang Hospital. At first, I didn’t really care about it nor even glanced at it, but there was someone that caught my eye.

It was Soyoung. I was sure of it. I made a U-turn at the end of the block and followed myself back to her side. I wanted to laugh, really. She looked so stupid trying to look who the driver was, which was obviously me.

*Should I give her a ride?* That was the question that was running though my head.

I only thought that because of what my parents had told me. ‘Be kind to her and be a gentleman to her. She’s a very nice girl,’ they’d say.

Other than that, I would’ve skipped on her the second my eyes landed on her as she walked on the sidewalk.

I thought, *Might as well just leave her be* since my parents would never find out anyways, right? I don’t care, so I sped off.

I couldn’t contain the feeling that was inside of me as I bursted into laughter seeing her face as I sped off. Okay, that was mean, but it was hilarious.

As I neared to stop because of the stoplight, I looked up at the sky. It was pretty cloudy. What if she gets rained on? Nahh, I can care less, but then again, what kind of gentleman does that to a girl? She’s a stranger, yet we have a tie somehow because of our parents so might as well pick her up. I did another U-turn and stopped right at her.

And so blah, blah, blah, you know the story of how she went to my house and I put make-up on her to cover up her bruise and how I told to her to lie, and now that’s why we’re here, in my car once again, heading somewhere.

So just don’t ask about why I even applied make-up on her. It wasn’t something I wanted to do nor was it something my parents told me to do either, but I just did it. It’s the same with picking her up.

I have a heart too, you know?

So again, we’re here, in my car as I drove through the rain. She’s so annoying. My parents really expected me to be friends with this girl??? In their dreams. Sorry mom and dad, but this girl will never be anything near there.

“Can you…. Can you tell me where we’re going?” I could literally feel her roll her eyes.

“Can you be patient and just wait?” Yes, just be patient, Kim Soyoung, and stop being annoying.

She sighed, looking out the window and out the pouring weather.

It’s been 10 minutes now and I’m still driving to our destination.

“The sky must be sad,” she suddenly said out of the blue.

What the heck? I ignored her. There was no point in answering anyways. “When are we gonna get wherever you’re taking us anyways? We’ve been in this car for 20 minutes now.”

“We’re almost there,” I replied. It’s the most I could do, if that even shuts her up.

Like I said, we were almost there and within minutes, we got there.

She gave me a quizzical look before turning to the huge house in front of her.

“Whose place is this and why are we here?” Obviously she was surprised, which I hadn’t intended to make her.

“It’s my friend’s place. You said you didn’t want to lie to your parents so I brought you here so that when your parents asked you if you had fun, you can’t lie and say no,” I explained, turning off the car.

“And what makes you so sure that I’m going to have fun?” She sounded so sure of herself. It made me want to knock her head for some reason. I’m usually the one who always sounds right, but instead, I just rolled my eyes.

“Just follow me in, can’t you?” It was still pouring, so of course I had to hurry in before getting soaked. I don’t want Kris yelling at me again just because I came into his house drenching his floor with the water on my clothes. “And make it quick. Try not to get wet.”

“How is that even possible in this state?”

“Can you just shut up?” I sighed before unlocking the doors. “Run to the front door, okay?”

And with that, I got out of the car, closing the door. I was already drenched by the time I closed the door as I watched her run to the front doors of Kris’s house. I chuckled, didn’t think she would actually do it.

I walked towards the door, not really caring that I was wet. Kris can yell at me all he wants. I’m bringing the girl he’s been wanting to see over, he better be happy.

The pass couple of months, Kris has been dying to ask to go to that 5-star restaurant just in case the girl I saw that day, which is Kim Soyoung, is there. Kris wants to meet her and I have no idea why he’s so worked up about her. Now, he can see her without having to pay for some expensive food to just see the girl he’s been wanting to see.

Kris, you’re gonna owe me for this one.

No One's POV

Eventually, Luhan explained to Kris of who Soyoung was before Kris could think that Luhan was actually picking up a girl like how every other normal man does. The explaining wasn’t long though, obviously. All Luhan had to say was, “She’s my neighbor since forever. Don’t think anything funny. It was the parent’s idea.”

And of course, if Luhan even cared, Soyoung didn’t quite like his explanation, but she left it to be because she doesn’t know Kris and there’s a very small chance of ever seeing him again. The only thing she found quite surprising is that the guy even had friends.

Yes, Soyoung, the naive girl, has been accusing Luhan of being a loner, but she never meant like a loner who actually has no friends. It’s quite surprising to know that Luhan’s friend, Kris, is actually quite stunning and tall. It was even more of a surprise when she heard that they have 10 more people coming soon.

“So, Kim Soyoung is your name?” Kris asked as he set down a cup of tea for Soyoung while Luhan laid back against the couch texting away at whoever it was he was texting, unless he’s not even texting but messing with his phone.

Soyoung nodded, thanking Kris for the cup of tea as she sipped on it carefully, aware that it was still hot. “And yours is Kris?”

“Yeah, that’s my nickname though,” Kris replied, seating himself next to Luhan who sat across from you. “My real name is Wu Yifan.”

“Wu Yifan?” Soyoung repeated in question form. “You’re Chinese?”

He grinned and gave a nod, “Why? Is it surprising?”

“Uhh,” she hesitated on saying yes, but thought of Luhan. You know, Luhan is Chinese too… “No, it’s not that surprising, I guess.”

“When will the others get here?” Luhan interrupted, not even glancing up from his phone. “It’s getting boring around here.”

“They should be here any minute now,” Kris replied.

Soyoung, confused as ever, looked over at Luhan. “Didn’t you say you were running late for something?”

Kris also turned his head to look at Luhan. “You said that?”

Soyoung knitted her brows and glanced at Kris. “So Luhan’s not running late on anything?”

Kris shrugged, “Not that I know of. I mean, our friends and I planned to come here to hang out for today since yesterday.”

“What --“

“I got my timing wrong. I thought I was running late on the hang out but turns out I’m actually early,” Luhan interrupted his across-the-street neighbor without even having to make eye contact.

She rolled her eyes willingly, “Rushed for no reason.”

“It’s not a bad thing to rush,” Luhan snorted. “You were too slow for your sake, anyways.”

“Excuse you,” she rolled her eyes. “You’re probably too dumb for your sake too for getting your hang out time wrong. You’re bored because of your stupid mistake, so why complain about it in the first place?” Soyoung snickered causing an amused smirk from Kris.

Luhan noticed this and secretly nudged Kris in the side when Soyoung looked away to drink her tea. He glared at Kris, meaning to say ‘don’t-do-things-to-make-her-gain-confidence’. Kris shrugged a smile. He couldn’t help it. Since when do girls talk like that to Luhan, anyways? There’s absolutely nothing to do but admire the girl for talking like that to him.

There was a knock on the door before Luhan could make a comeback. There were voices talking behind that door as Kris got up and headed over to open it. Luhan looked at Soyoung with a smirk, “As a matter of fact, you’re wrong. I’m not bored. My fun has just begun.”

For some reason, Soyoung felt uncomfortable as Luhan said those words with that smirk on his face. The smirk that made Soyoung want to wipe off by using her own feet to smudge it.

Kris unlocked the door, letting in people that Soyoung’s never met before. Her eyes rounded. Just so much boys. Too much.

They all piled in before stopping, noticing that Soyoung was staring right back at them.

“Whoa, which one of you picked up this pretty lady?” one grinned. He had an amazingly low voice that surprised Soyoung. Who would’ve thought that a guy like him would have such a deep voice.

“Chanyeol ,” Kris rolled his eyes.

“So it was you, ge?” another one spoke. This guy had dark under eye circles that made his eyes stand out the most from his face. Usually, dark under eye circles aren’t good looking, but Soyoung’s gotta admit it. For this guy, it didn’t look bad at all. In fact, it would even win for his best features.

“No,” Kris sighed.

She lit a small smile seeing how much stress Kris showed just by from their arrival. From learning very little Chinese from Mr. and Mrs. Lu over the years, Soyoung picked up the word ‘gege’ , which Kris had been called by the dark under eyed guy. Kris must be older than him. “She’s a guest. Her name is Kim Soyoung and she’s Luhan’s neighbor. Apparently, their parents had suggested Soyoung to come over with Luhan today, so she’s with us today.”

“You’re kidding!” Chanyeol, Soyoung figured, shouted. Chanyeol glanced at Soyoung before turning his attention to Luhan. “Is she really your neighbor?”

“And what if she is?” Luhan responded, not sure why Chanyeol seemed so shocked.

“Dude, you’ve got to be kidding me!” Chanyeol bellowed. His face looked as if he was in joy. “I needa move in with you or something! How come you never told us that you got pretty ladies around your neighborhood?”

Soyoung wasn’t sure if that was a compliment she had just gotten, but she took it as a ‘yes-I-just-got-complimented’.

“Pretty ladies?” Luhan mocked, looking right at Soyoung. Soyoung had also locked eyes with him, ready to fight back with words at whatever he was going to say. “Sure, I guess you can say that, but you can’t live with me. Get your own house.”

The others chuckled as Chanyeol’s jaw dropped. “Get my own house? Luhan hyung, you’re no fun. You’re telling me to get my own house when a 20 year old like you still live with his parents while, Kris is younger than you and he already has his own house.”

Soyoung’s jaw, too, had dropped like Chanyeol’s. Her attention was on Luhan. “You’re 20 years old?!”

Luhan lazily shifted his attention towards her. “Got a problem?”

“So you are?!” Her voice went up a pitch. “And you’re older than Kris?! Since when?! You don’t even look like you’re older than him!”

“And your problem is?” Luhan’s eyes lazily flutter open each time he closed them. The others just looked back and forth, not quite getting what’s going on. It isn’t usual to see a girl talk to Luhan in such a way and Luhan has never talked about any girl named ‘Soyoung’ so how could she talk to him so informally? Kris, too, thought the same the first time the she arrived just a bit ago.

“My problem?” Soyoung snickered before rolling her eyes in such a manner that would usually tick off other girls. Sassy girls, that is. “Please, I have no problem. You’re the one with the problem. I mean, you’re 20 years old, and still live with your parents, while Kris is younger than you and has his own house. Pathetic much?”

She was sure this somehow ticked off Luhan. The others noticed as they laughed, even throwing out “Burn!”’s and “Damn!”’s and even, “You just got own, Luhan!”.

“Well, aren’t you one to talk?” Luhan tried his best to make a good come back, but he knew this one was just lame. It was plain lame.

“Sorry, Lulu, my parent’s make me live with them,” Soyoung shook her head in disappointment. Even she knew herself that it was one lame comeback that Luhan gave. Yet, what she said is true. Her parents make her live with them. She wasn’t allowed to live all by herself yet, no matter how legal she is. Her parents are just over-protective in this case.

“Lulu?!” one bursted into loud laughter as so did the others. Kris couldn’t help but try to holdback his laugh. He had seen Luhan glaring, but why should he care? Since when does a girl make fun of Luhan like this? They’ve never seen Luhan get so beaten by a girl before. It was actually pretty amusing.

“Lu, I think it’s my fun that began,” Soyoung fluttered her eyes in such a manner that even made her sick, but she didn’t care at that moment. She felt content.

“Are you trying to make me hate you?” Luhan snorted. “Very funny.”

Soyoung’s fluttering eyes stopped as annoyance masked on. “I could care less if you hate me. Plus, why would I try to make you hate me? Hating someone is so pointless and it doesn’t even make sense to hate someone, I mean, to a certain point that is. You haven’t done anything wrong in particular to make me want to hate you or even wanting to make you hate me.”

Okay, so Luhan wasn’t expecting that. He sighed in relief. At least the girl was stopping with the comebacks that embarrassed him, right? “Then where are you trying to get at?”

“Home,” Soyoung replied nonchalantly. Luhan dropped his head and gave her his annoyed eyes. She smiled sheepishly, “Okay, so maybe I was trying to just embarrass you in some ways, but really, I just wanna head home. Wouldn’t you, if you were dragged out by someone you barely knew to some place you had no idea where it is because that other person won’t tell you?”

Kris’s brows raised, “What? Really? That’s what happened?”

Luhan closed his eyes, tightening his jaw.

“Yeah,” Soyoung nodded slowly, “Something along the line.”

The others were now confused. What happened?

“So you lied?” Kris’s eyes were on Luhan now.

“It’s not lying. It’s called telling part of the truth,” Luhan replied after calming down quickly. He glared at Soyoung. “I did drag her here, but the reason is because of the parents. Come on, let’s do something. Everyone’s here now.”

“So you’re really not going to take me home?” Soyoung questioned. “After embarrassing you in front of your friends, you’re still going to let me embarrass you more by letting me stay here with you?”

“You can’t even embarrass me anymore. I’m pretty sure you’ve reached your limit.”

“Are you sure about that?” Soyoung smirked willingly.

“Yeah, Lulu, I don’t think you’d want that.” Luhan’s friend spoke. His body was slim and his skin color was darker than the others, yet it seemed like a perfect tan.

Soyoung hasn’t really been attention to their looks, but looking at them, she can’t help but envy Luhan for having such good looing friends, not that Zico and Kyung aren’t good looking.

“Shut up, Kai,” Luhan glared at him before turning back to Soyoung. “Is that some sort of challenge?”

Soyoung shrugged, “I guess you can put it like that, although it’s not. But you’re really not going to take me home?”

Luhan smirked after some thinking, “Like I said, my fun has just begun.”
