Chapter 35

JUST Common Sense

No One's POV

It was finally the “big” day, or also known as the business event, the main reason why they had come to China in the first place. In fact, the event was going to start in a couple of hours, and still now, Soyoung wasn’t sure of what she should wear and how she should style her hair. *What about the make-up?* She thought as she frantically looked through the possible dresses she brought with her on the trip.

She paused and gave a gasp. “Wait, what am I doing worrying about make-up?! How the heck am I supposed to greet those people when they come to me? Do I speak in Korean or Chinese? No, I’m in China. Of course I greet them in Chinese.” She relaxed when she figured out what language she should be speaking in, only to say hello to her panic state again. “Wait! If I greet them in Chinese, they will think I know how to speak it fluently and converse with me. I won’t understand a single thing they’re saying nor will I know how to reply to them!”

*This is why I don’t go to business events outside of South Korea!* She stressed as she flopped onto the bed.

It was all too much for her. If she had known things would be this difficult, she would have planned things ahead of time instead of going out with the guys to have fun and explore China.

And just when things were getting bad for Soyoung, the text she received made things even worse. She gawked at the text she had receieved.

The fact that he was demanding her to be done by the given time made things worse. She had no clue about what she should wear. She had no clue about what hair style she should do. She didn’t even know how she should react to things when she arrives at the actual event. How did he expect her to be done by then?

Soyoung literally had another 2 hours or so, and for a girl, that wasn’t a lot of time, or so she heard. It wasn’t like she had never taken 2 hours to ready herself up for an event. In fact, that had never happened before, but it wasn’t something surprising when it came to Soyoung. She just wasn’t the type to take so long to get herself ready. It wasn’t like she was looking for anyone to impress.

Upset by his demand, she sent a text right back only to get nothing in response.

Truth be told, she was surprised by his text message. That was the first text she had ever gotten from Luhan. The two exchanged numbers the previous day when they all went out to the center of Beijing. Because they were all going to split up into two groups, everyone suggested that they all exchanged phone numbers so that when one gets lost, they will be able to contact the other, hence the reason why Soyoung had his number in the first place and vice versa.

She blew on her bangs in annoyance. This was the exact reason why she hated business events. Her parents told her that the key to success is by leaving good impressions, so how was she to do that when she didn’t even know what to wear?

*Someone… Wish me luck.* She groaned stressfully.

It was going to be a long day.

Luhan found no way to reply to Soyoung’s question she sent through text. Her question: What if she wasn’t done by 6:30?

Luhan had no answer to that as he had a problem of his own. Like Soyoung, Luhan wasn’t sure of how to present himself. He had always been the type to get nervous around business men even though he never showed it. They weren't scary, just intimidating. He hated hearing comments directed towards him about not taking his career into business but music instead. He hated when they commented on what he liked doing against what he hated doing most.

This was the number 1 reason why he hated these business events.

He sighed and leaned back against the chair. He had his suit ready. His hair was perfectly fine. He was practically set to go for the event. The only thing holding him back was how he should be presenting himself in front of the business men later. It only brought him stress.

Because it gave him stress and it made him uncomfortable, he decided to play around and sent Soyoung that intimidating text in which he made up, except for the part when he mentioned the guys.

The guys really did go out to get their suites and hair done by professional stylists. Suho offered to pay for Kyung and Zico’s stylist, so the two went along as well. Only Luhan and Soyoung were stuck in the hotel.

As for the part about his parents, he was kidding, but he wasn’t going to let Soyoung know.

The parents had never mentioned anything about picking up Soyoung or going there with her. In fact, the only thing they had told Luhan was the fact that they were going to head to the event right away. That was the only thing they told him and had told him to pass on the message.

He used the text as an advantage to mess around with Soyoung, but at most, he used it to take his mind off of things, but when she texted back with such a question, Luhan couldn’t help but wonder: What if she doesn’t get done by 6:30?

What can he do to her anyways? It wasn’t like there was a specific punishment, and obviously, he can’t just leave her too. One way or the other, he would have to lead her there, because the boys were heading there right away along with the parents. Luhan was the only way Soyoung would ever reach the business event without getting lost.

He sighed heavily and stood up.

So what if the business men scold him? So what if they question him? So what if they point out his so-called “wrong” doings? So what if?

He was living his life, not theirs. This was his life, not theirs. They wouldn’t understand, so of course, he shouldn't take those things into account.

Determined, Luhan exhaled, grabbed his phone, and entered his contact list. He was going to show them that he had changed, and if they still continue to laugh at him and his determination, he’ll just have to prove them wrong. He’ll show them.

“Hello, Mr. Huang Xu Guan. This is Lu Han, Son of Mr. Lu at Seoul Technology Institute,” he spoke firmly into his mobile device. Lu Han wasn’t someone that was hard to forget, and he knew that this phone call would make it through. He knew the guy remembered him clearly with a pleasing thought.

He waited as he let the other respond before a grin crept to his face. “I know I’ve rejected your offer during that time, but today, I would like to change my mind and ask that you agree with this offer. Tonight, at 7:30 PM, I will take the grand entrance with your daughter, like how you asked for a few months ago, on one occasion.” He, once again, waited for the elder’s response before replying. “I would like to have a short performance during your event. Please have a piano ready to go at the time of the event.”

And the elder’s okay was all he needed. He’ll show them all tonight that what he’s headed for isn’t just nothing. It’s something, & it certainly will attract more than any of those business men can ever attract.

Luhan was ready for tonight.

“Don’t worry about Soyoung,” Kyung assured Zico as they were in the van in which Suho was driving. “I’m sure Luhan got her. They’ll make it to the event just fine.”

Zico wasn’t necessarily okay with the fact that Luhan was going to take Soyoung. He didn’t necessarily trust the guy at all, but the fact that everyone was so laid back about it made him relax too… but then again, something about tonight seemed awfully wrong. He just couldn’t point out what that something was.

“Let’s hope they do,” Zico muttered.

“It’s not like Luhan’s going to kidnap her or something,” Sehun rolled his eyes. The fact that Zico was so edgy about one of Sehun’s closest friend made him dislike the guy. He’s known Luhan for the longest time, and Luhan was definitely not the type to harm any girls. He may not be the most gentle guy out there, but it wasn’t like Luhan had the ability to tear Soyoung apart with his words… That was unless Soyoung does it first. “If you can’t trust Luhan, then a least trust us.”

“Luhan’s a pure coward when it comes to girls,” Chen laughed it off. “You won’t need to worry about Luhan and Soyoung. Either they’re going to be there at the event or they’re going to end up staying at the hotel the whole night because Luhan’s just a coward like that.”

Even so they say, Zico couldn’t help but worried. He knew he was worrying for nothing, but the fact that Luhan was a guy and Soyoung was a girl threw him off. Of course, there were many times in which Soyoung was in Zico’s care, but it was different with Luhan and Soyoung, because Luhan was simply someone Zico couldn’t trust. He was someone Zico wouldn’t trust.

Before they knew it, the guys have arrived. Suho parked before they all got out. Kyung and Zico was quite amazed with how big the place was compared to the mansions they’ve seen back in Seoul. The place wasn’t the only thing they were amazed by. The people attending were no joke either. There were rich people all over the place with flashy clothes entering the building.

Yixing swung an arm over Zico’s shoulder with a wide grin. “I was just as amazed when I first went to rich people’s business events. You’ll get used to it.”

Zico scoffed. “I’m not amazed by anything,” he denied, glancing away swiftly with a clear of his throat. “Anyway, I’m new to this whole business event thing so you guys are going to have to lead me and Kyung.”

“Don’t worry about it,” Chanyeol grinned. “Just greet people as they are and you’ll blend in just fine. We’re youngsters here, so the elders wouldn’t take us seriously and leave us right after a greeting. They wouldn’t want to engage in a serious conversation.”

“Why don’t we go in and you’ll see how things work?” Suho smiled and lead the guys on in.

A new experience. Zico and Kyung would probably never forget.

“I don’t have much time, so will you hurry up?” Luhan urged her as he sat on her hotel room bed. They weren’t necessarily running late, nor were they even close to being late. He was just… nervous, which was why he was rushing her. He knew he didn’t need to, nor should he have done so, but when he was nervous, Luhan knew well that he couldn’t stay still for long, and if anything, he came to panic easily over small things.

“We’re going to the same place. What do you mean you don’t have much time?” Soyoung asked as she slipped a necklace around her neck. She checked herself in front of the mirror, and she wasn’t quite satisfied with her look for tonight. Especially not with Luhan rushing her when she was already so nervous about everything. “We’re going to be on time.”

“No, we’re not,” Luhan stressed as he stood up. “You will be on time, but I won’t be. What’s taking you so long anyways?” He walked over to the hotel’s restroom in which had the door open with its bright lights shining. “We have to leave right now—”

He stopped upon seeing Soyoung as she glanced at him. When he came in her hotel room earlier, she was still dressed in denim jeans with a blue plaid shirt. When she told him to come in and wait for her to change and get ready for the event, he didn’t expect her to change a whole 180 degree.

Luhan was, indeed, amazed. In fact, he was awed by her appearance tonight. Her usual straight, auburn brown hair was now slightly curled in just the right places. Her dark brown pupils were now covered with the lighter colored contact lenses , and her face from before was now covered with light make-up. Her lips were tinted a rosy pink, and her lids were layered with dainty shades of pink that brought out the beauty of her face. Her strapless, silk-like coral dress flowed down to her knees.

She practically shined, and Luhan would be lying if he were to deny her beauty. He wasn’t someone to easily notice the beauty of the opposite .

“I said that we aren’t running late,” Soyoung looked him in the eye with a slight frown. She was tired of him rushing her. She knows it for sure. They really weren’t running late. In fact, if they were to leave right now, they would have been early. “So just sit tight and wait. I’m almost done, dummy.” She turned her attention back to the restroom’s oversized mirror.

Luhan, whose mouth was opened ajar, quickly came back to reality and closed his mouth, averting eyes. He slightly cleared his throat and quietly returned to the bed. Damn. She can be annoying sometimes, but her beauty really shines. Luhan couldn’t deny that for sure. Even he was trampled upon his words just by seeing her.

He shook his head with a frown. No, he shouldn’t be seeing her in such a light. It would make things awkward. Sure, she was beautiful, but just for tonight. He wasn’t going to let it affect him for tonight. If Soyoung was beautiful, then he was sure there would be more beautiful girls over at the event. Right. Of course, that’s obvious. With a deep breath, Luhan exhaled.

“Alright, now I’m done,” Soyoung called from the restroom. She turned off the lights and came over to him. “Let’s go, Luhan.”

She grabbed her coral hand purse she prepared just for his event. She was often told by her mom when she was younger that it wasn’t good to carry such a huge hand bag with many things inside when going to an event. It always gets in the way. She picked up the habit of preparing small hand purses for these occasions.

Luhan glanced at her as she decided on whether she should wear her high heels of her flat shoes, in which both were the color of coral. Seeing her think hard, he couldn’t help but chuckle quietly. *So like many other girls, Kim Soyoung has trouble over choosing shoes too?* He shook his head and walked over to her.

“What’s wrong?” He questioned her, putting on a straight face.

“I can’t decide which shoes I should wear,” she muttered before looking up at him with hopeful eyes. “Are you good with style?”

“Style?” he restated what he had heard. “Well, I don’t know. You tell me. Do you see me wear baggy jeans with mismatched socks and a baggy tee, thinking I look good in it?”

Soyoung rolled her eyes at his sarcasm. With a sigh, she slipped into her high heels and urged him to look at her. “How is it? Are the high heels good with my outfit, or are the flats better?”

And her question made him want to laugh at her. Practically, everything she had in her hands and body right now went well with her outfit, mainly because they were the same color and matched well. Even so, he refrained from laughing and took her seriously.

He examined her body, from head to toe, and once again, he couldn’t help but be awed by her beauty. If she were to show this side of her every single day, Chanyeol would have moved in with Luhan by now without permission, and boys from all over would flock around her every single second with none missed, hoping that she would notice them.

Even if he was awed, he didn’t show it, and instead, he urged her to try on her flat shoes.

“How is it? Which one’s better?” she asked.

With the way she was asking him, Luhan knew she was nervous about this. He could tell by her voice that not only was she nervous about her appearance, but she was nervous about the event as a whole.

“I like the high heels better,” he honestly answered as he lifted his gaze to her face. “The high heels would match better with your outfit.”

Soyoung nodded and quickly slipped into the shoes at once before letting out a shaky sigh. She left the room first with Luhan right behind her.

“I have something I have to get to, so I’m going to drop you off in the front,” Luhan informed her as they mounted the elevator. “Kris will be in the front waiting for you, so don’t freak out if you don’t understand anything anyone is saying. If anyone says anything to you, Kris will be there to reply for you.”

Soyoung swiftly nodded.

“Just stick with him for the rest of the event if you have to,” Luhan spoke once again as he stole a glance at her.

Once again, Soyoung only nodded.

Luhan sighed with a slight roll of his eyes. “If you want to survive tonight, you do know that you’re going to have to breathe, right?”

Right then, Soyoung exhaled greatly, giving him a look. “H-How did you know I was holding my breath?”

He only shrugged in return. “Is holding your breath a habit when you’re nervous?” He asked her.

“Huh?”

“I can see how nervous you are about this,” he said the obvious. “Just relax, will you? You’ll be fine. Speaking about relaxing, did you even hear a word I said to you?”

“Of course I did,” she defended herself. “Where are you going anyways that you have to drop me off in the front?”

“Don’t you know? I’m a special guest for this event,” he smirked, only to have it wiped off with the female’s response.

“Sadly, I didn’t, but it’s not like it matters, right?”

They left the elevator and made their way through the lobby. It was only then that Soyoung lost her stepping and fell forward with a slight yelp. Luhan, with his fast reflexes, reached out and prevented a hard fall and serious injury.

“Are you okay?” he asked her, concerned.

“Y-yeah,” she breathed heavily. “I’m fine.”

He rolled his eyes and took her hand into his, interlacing them as he held on tightly. “I told you to relax,” he muttered. “We’re just starting to leave and you’re already so clumsy. What will happen when we actually arrive?”

Soyoung couldn’t say anything back, knowing he was right. She was being too clumsy for her sake, and she had to be careful or else she will become the laughing stock of the event.

She followed alongside him as they left the lobby.

She was surprised to see a shiny blue Nissan Skyline car waiting for the two. The hotel chauffeur gave Luhan the keys as he opened the passenger’s seat for Soyoung. Without further words, she entered and sat down comfortably before Luhan closed the door.

His action caused her to tint the shade of pink. Just a little bit. She was quite touched with his gentlemen-like gestures. It felt nice.

Luhan entered at the driver’s side before starting the car and driving off.

This was it. Soyoung really was going to attend a business event, once again since forever.

Author's Note♥:

Once again, I want to sincerely apologize. I told you guys that I would be done with my haitus two whole months ago. I gave you guys specific reason to why I wouldn't be updating, and even when those reasons were marked, done, and over with, I really was planning to update, but then The Sewol incident happened and everything totally crashed down on me. I didn't have the will to write & things became super hectic with this tragedy going on. Then EXO's comeback practice shot was leaked, which heavily affected me more than it should have, adding that on to more worries to my list... And when EXO came back, the music industry moving again, I wasn't, ready yet. I was still sufferring the loss over The Sewol tragedy. Even till today, and now, I'm still affected by it, deeply. It was hard for me to do the things I usually do. I wouldn't call it being in a depress mode, but more of a very concern and worried state, and am even now. And when I FINALLY felt much better, at least enough for me to actually wanting to get thigns moving ... EXO's Kris's Lawsuit came up ... & I couldn't seem to function anymore ... The oxygen I was breathing suddenly became toxin for some minutes & it was hard for me to think straight. Day by day, I continuously wait for updates. I mean, it's EXO, one of my most favored groups of all time. It was a huge shocker to me, but whatever happens, happens, and when it does happen, I'll be ready to take it on & still continue to support EXO & Kris whatever the outcome may be. So that really left a huge impact on me, & only when I felt the need to really move things on, I hear about VIXX's comeback, in which makes me feel slightly better, because is like EXO to me: One of my most favored groups of all time, so hearing about their comeback really made me feel better... It was only then that I hear about another leakage ... I mean, really? Come on, people. Can't you respect the artist & wait for its actual release date? -Sigh- Both EXO & VIXX ... I really miss them... Anyways, once again, I'm truly sorry for always delaying my updates. I'm finally back ... And because of the unexpected events that had taken place, I can't guarantee an update every week. If anything, my updates won't always be on Sundays anymore & will become random updates. I'm truly sorry. I don't want to make you guys wait again by telling you that it will be updated next week & have something unexpected happen & delay an update. I hope you guys understand. I also want to sincerely thank you all! Such beautiful people! I gained over 40 subscribers since my last update, making that a total of 180+ Subbers! Thank you so much, guys! For your wonderful support for my story!

I've mentioned before about a writing contest I've entered. We don't know the results yet, due to the hoster having personal problems so we're still waiting. Whatever the results may be, I'm just glad I've entered. It was quite enjoyable to be able to write a one-shot. I really did have fun writing it, although it was a angst-like one shot. I'm sure for those of you who have read it, you guys know what I'm talking about. If you haven't read it yet, and would like to read it, the link is below. It is starring EXO's Luhan & My OC Kim Ha Neul! It's called: He Has A Beating Heart. I haven't decided on whether or not I should make a full-story sequel, or just a another one-shot sequel, or no sequel at all, but based on the response I get, I will definitely know the answer by the end of school, which is in a month. Do check it out if you're interested in reading more Luhan fics! :)

Once again, guys, Thank you so much. I seriously owe you guys for giving such great support for this story. Thank you so much, and again, I sincerely apologize for not updating for the past 2 months.
