Chapter 2

JUST Common Sense

No One's POV

It’s been a week since Soyoung was done with high school and it’s been a week since Luhan came back from China. Soyoung, who thought there would be no more tiring days for the rest of her life, had been living the toughest of all times, and Luhan, who thought there would be a long time of relaxing days from returning, had been dragged around Seoul almost every day for the past week. It was just terrible, except it was fun. It was terribly fun, on Luhan’s part anyways.

Soyoung was another story.

Soyoung’s mom had been making Soyoung work her off the whole time. She would make Soyoung wash the dishes every time there were dishes in the sink, whether it was just one spoon, or fork. She would make Soyoung clean the bathroom and scrub the toilet. She would make Soyoung mop another day, and on another, she would make Soyoung wipe all the windows. Today, on this particular Sunday, she was making Soyoung wash her own clothes by hand, her excuse being, 'You’ve been slacking off so much using the machine that you don’t know how much work a country girl does. This isn’t even half of the hard work they go through. Just be glad that your father and I raised you here.'

Sigh. Tough luck for Soyoung, who had been complaining every five minutes that her back hurts since 8:00 AM. It was tiring. Very tiring.

Now, it was nearing 2:00 PM and she was only done with half of the clothes. It was a lot. Just too much. It was a mountain pile of clothes. Her mom was making her wash every single piece of her own clothes, whether Soyoung had already worn it or not. It was practically Soyoung’s whole wardrobe in that pile. If she had known that there would be a day in her life when she would have to do this, Soyoung wouldn't have bought all of these clothes.

“Mom!” Soyoung complained for the umpteenth time that day. “This is too hard and the sun is too hot!”

“Just keep doing it and you’ll get used to it!” her mother yelled from the kitchen window as she washed the dishes, watching Soyoung do her laundry by hand.

“You’ve been saying that for the past couple of hours!” she whined, arching her back that ached. “My back hurts so bad. My precious back.” She uttered a cry, constraining her angered feelings.

Heck, it’s summer. Summer is a season that is meant for fun. It's the time of the year when everyone comes out of their house to play. Summer is when everyone has the fun of their life before continuing school again, but for Soyoung it’s not like that.

As of now, it seems like summer was meant to be for working her off, and she was hating every minute of it. She would pick school over this laundry day anytime, anyday.

After another two hours, she was finally finished washing her clothes with sincere help from Zico, whom she called when she lied to go use the bathroom. She had called him, needing all the help she could get. At first, Zico had rejected, but because of the continuous pleading from the 19 year old, Zico finally gave in, and came over. Her mom was fuming with anger when Zico had shown up because she wanted her daughter to do it alone, but yet, who could be mad at such a nice gentleman that was always there for their daughter?

“Finally!” Soyoung shouted, pumping her fist up in the air. “We’re done!” She jumped up in the air happily, after washing up.

“You’ve been saying that for the past ten minutes,” Zico chuckled, rolling her eyes as he leaned against her bed post as he watched her jump in happiness.

“It’s because I’m so happy!” she exclaimed. “Aren’t you? I’ve been doing that laundry crap since 8 in the morning and now it’s already 4:00 PM. I should be more than happy for finishing that up.”

Zico shrugged, “True, but if it wasn’t for me, you wouldn’t have had finished this early. You would still be out there, complaining your off.”

She jumped onto Zico, causing him to almost lose his balance. “Yes! You’re right! Thank you Woo Jiho! I couldn’t have done this without you! I love you! I love you! I love you!”

Zico chuckled as he returned her tight embrace. “Yeah, yeah, whatever, lazy bum. Just get off of me. You’re making me suffocate. I can’t breathe.”

“Makes it all the better,” she cheered, squeezing him harder than before, releasing him shortly after when he finally begged her to.

There was a buzz sound as Zico took out his phone, checking the text that he had just received.

Soyoung peered over, “Who texted you?”

“Kyung,” Zico answered shortly, texting him back.

“What did he say?” she asked, giving up on trying to read the text. To her dismay. Zico's arm blocked her sight of seeing it.

“Nothing much. Just asking to hang out.” Zico clicked the button, blacking out his screen and slipping his phone into his back pocket. “Want to hang out with us too?”

Her face brightened up. It was finally something to do, “Really?!”

Zico chuckled and nodded willingly. “Really.”

“Let me go ask my mom --" she stopped abruptly before frowning.

She just remembered. She really can’t do anything about hanging out today.

Earlier, when just beginning the laundry, her mom had told her to cancel all plans for today and to not make any plans either.

Zico, having to notice the change in her face, grabbed her arm to catch her attention. “What’s wrong?”

She sighed in disappointment, slightly pouting. “Sorry, as much as I want to hang out with you guys, I can’t.”

Letting go of her arm, Zico straightened up. “Why not? Is it because I came here when your mom didn’t want me to?

Soyoung quickly shook her head, “No, that’s not it. It’s never because of that. She never minds if you come over. It’s just, earlier today, she told me to cancel all my plans and to not make plans with anyone.”

Zico, taken surprise by her response, raised his eyebrows. “And why is that?”

The look of disappointment disappeared from her face and was now placed with curiosity. “If I remember correctly, it’s because Mr. and Mrs. Lu are coming over tonight, again.”

Zico frowned. That was the reason? “But why would you need to cancel all of your plans? You usually go out on those days anyways.”

“Oh!” Soyoung smiled, “That’s because their son, Luhan, is back and they want to celebrate it, appearently.”

“Luhan? The kid that your parents always tell you to talk to when you were younger?” Zico knew him. At least from what he heard.

There’s only been once in his whole life time that he came to meet this Luhan guy face to face and if he remembered correctly, that was when he was the age of 5 years old. He barely remembered the guy.

Soyoung nodded, her smile replaced by curiosity once more. “They want me to meet him because he’s going to start living in Seoul again, from now on. They want me to befriend him so he won’t be so lonely here in Seoul.”

“But shouldn’t that have happened 10 or so years ago, before he went to China?” Zico wasn’t exactly pleased with this information. If it didn’t happen 10 years ago, how was it going to work now? To befriend someone you barely knew, yet you knew them for a long time now, it’s almost impossible to come to befriend them, isn’t it? Especially if one is done with high school already.

Soyoung shrugged in response. “I guess it should’ve, but I don’t know. My parents are intending to make me befriend with that Luhan guy though.” She paused for a small laugh before continuing, “I don’t think it’ll work though. I mean, like you said, it should’ve happened 10 years ago, but it didn’t so it’ll be pretty hard to now, especially at this age.”

Zico smiled pleasantly. At least she agrees, right? They think so alike.

“But there’s a possibility, you know?” Her eyes were filled of determination, making Zico drop his smile. She laughed once more, “Just kidding. I don’t look forward to this Luhan guy and especially befriending him is a big no-no.”

“Why is it a big no-no?” He wanted to know. Wanting to know wasn’t wrong. He was just curious. She’s right, there is a possibility that they could actually become friends, but why is it that she doesn’t think it’ll work out?

Once again, Soyoung shrugged. “If I remember correctly, he was one weird kid.”

“How so?”

“I don’t know. He was just weird. He would say hi when his parents make him come over, but then he would stay quiet and not say anything at all unless he was spoken to,” Soyoung explained, reminiscing the past. “I mean, he was so different from all of the other kids, yet, he helped out when I needed help this one time, but it was just this one time. It was when my Barbie toy’s head broke and I kept bothering my mom to fix it. She told me to ask Luhan and the guy just took it and jammed the head onto the Barbie. It was so rude of him, but he still managed to fix it. Plus, that was when we were kids. Who knows what he’s like now. Probably a loner that has no friends. Maybe that’s why my parents are making me befriend him.”

Zico frowned, “You’re so mean. Maybe they just want you guys to become friends just for the heck of it. Why do you have to go all in depth saying he’s a loner and all?”

“Well, I was just saying from my past experiences with him,” she muttered. “But really, it could be true. How could he make friends if he never talks? He was so quiet, you know?”

Zico stared at her for a bit before gliding his first finger down her nose line as he said, “Nappeun Cheonsa.(Bad Angel), causing Soyoung to close her eyes tight and bend her head down in result to his actions. It was something Zico always do to her when he has nothing to say. It was usually because he has nothing to say, she had done something wrong, or he just found her amazingly cute at times.

He usually only used three types of it though. One was, “Nappeun Cheonsa (Bad Angel) for when she’s done or said something bad, “Pabo Cheonsa (Stupid Angel) for when he doesn’t know what to say, or “Kwiyeoun Cheonsa(Cute Angel) for when he found her doing cute stupid stuff. Whenever he did that to her, using one of those, she couldn’t help but smile. It was something he developed and out of habit, he would do it to her whenever he felt it was right to. He’s done it so much to her, that Soyoung eventually came up with a name for it. The name of this was called, “Zico Cheonsa (Zico Angel).

“I have to go then,” Zico chuckled upon seeing her glares. He ruffled her hair. “Have fun with that Luhan guy.”

He walked out of her room as Soyoung blew her bangs as she plopped herself on her blue polka-dotted bed. “Now I’m gonna be bored again.”

Seulpeohajima no no no honjaga anya no no no--" He found his phone in his side pocket, picking up after seeing the caller ID.

“Yeah, mom?” he spoke into the phone as he got comfortable in the car with Sehun next to him and Kai on the other side.

When will you be home, Lulu?” Luhan’s mom had been calling him that since forever but never out in public or at anyone’s home. Luhan was embarrassed of that name. It was oddly uncomfortable, but he had told his mom that only she can call him that, and she had to promise to never let anyone know about that nickname. Eventually, the rest of EXO came to know about it later on. But then again, it was in the past and Luhan had gotten used to it already. Especially because he missed his mom so much while his stay in China to the point where he didn’t care anymore, but now that he’s back, he was starting to reconsider.

“Hmmm, around 9 to 10 o’clock again, maybe,” he replied, taking an educated guess. After all, EXO-K was still showing EXO-M around Seoul so they would get used to it once again. “Why? Is there something you need?”

Yes, there is, actually. Lulu, can you be home by 6 pm?”

Luhan shifted in his seat. “I can try, but I’m not the one driving so if I arrive late, that’s Suho’s fault.”

“Heard that,” the leader of EXO-K replied nonchalantly, not taking his eyes off of the road.

Luhan rolled his eyes at his response. “Mom, why did you want me home by 7? Is there something going on?”

“Yeah, your father and I, are going to go out to eat with some of our friends.”

“Ah,” Luhan opened his mouth widely. “I understand. Don’t worry, I’ll watch the house.”

“Aigoo, that’s not what I meant. I mean that you we’re going out to eat but you’re coming with us. Our friends wanted to see our little Lulu.”

Luhan cringed at the name and shivered at ‘Little LuLu’. For one, he was not little. Two, “Little”… He was NOT little. “Mom, I’m not a little kid anymore. Can you not call me that?” Through the phone, he could hear his mom laugh.

“Okay, okay, but be home by 6, okay?”

“Yes, mom. I’ll be home by then,” Luhan replied as his mom hung up. He looked at the clock on his phone. Clearly two hours left before he has to go back home. “Suho, I have to get home by 6.”

“Oh, why?” Suho asked, glancing up at the rear view mirror.

Luhan shrugged, “Special occasion I guess. Something about eating out.”

“Oh, alright. I’ll take you home by then,” he replied before setting his eyes on the road again.

A fancy dressing suit. That was what Luhan was dressed up in as of now. He reached home thirty minutes ago, and right away, his mom made him go shower and put on this suit that made him look amazingly attractive. He stared at himself in the mirror, fixing his hair. It was only for the best after all. He had learned to always present himself as good looking and respectful to elders. That way, they see Luhan as a good person.

After fixing his hair up, he did a couple of faces, seeing which one he looked good in.

He took out his iPhone and snapped  few shots before posting it up on his Facebook, with the status, “Out to dinner with the family. Looking good ;)

He smiled pleasantly after seeing it posted. He’s got to admit, he was good looking, not that he was conceited or anything. He wasn’t. He’s just telling the truth.

Like expected, within 5 minutes, he had gained over a hundred likes and over 50 comments. He didn’t bother to read or like the comments but instead logged out when his mom called for him.

“Aigoo,” Mrs. Lu pinched Luhan's cheeks, “My son is so handsome!”

“Of course, he got that from his father,” Mr. Lu chuckled, patting Luhan’s back. Luhan couldn’t help but grin. At least it was true. He did get most of his good looks from his dad, not that his mom wasn’t good looking, she was. He just got more of his dad’s look. Back in the days, as he was told, his dad was popular among the women and was a major player until he met Luhan’s mom. It was a cheesy love story, but Luhan found it amazing, in some ways at least. “Come on. Let’s go. They called just now and said they’re already at the restaurant.”

“Already?” Mrs. Lu was shocked at how fast time went by. “Then we must go now. Come on Luhan. You’re gonna love the food there!”
