Chapter 31

JUST Common Sense

No One's POV

“You guys really did that to him?!” Soyoung cracked up.

Having Baekhyun tell her everything that happened last Friday was such a joy. Maybe she should’ve stayed with them that night.

“Of coruse we did,” Baekhyun joined her laughter. “You should’ve been there. Luhan was going all about the house just trying to find his phone. That kid is so stupid, I tell you. He can’t even recognize his own phone just because it’s not the same case!”

Soyoung laughed louder. It was just downright hilarious.

That Friday night was no joke, as told by Baekhyun. When Luhan, who was already frustrated with all of the teasing, left to go to the bathroom, they had Kai change his phone case with Luhan’s, causing the poor boy to thinkt hat they had taken his phone, when really, it was right in front of him.

“Why didn’t you stay with us?” Baekhyun perked up after calming from cracking up. “… I wanted you there.”

Soyoung arched a brow and glanced over at him. “Really?” She stifled a laugh before turning her head forward. “To be really honest, I did want to come, but I didn’t want to bother Luhan more than I already have.”

Baekhyun rolled his eyes. “Like that ever stopped us from bothering him.”

Soyoung smiled. Although she didn’t know the guys well, she knew well enough ath he was right. What ever did stop them from bothering him?

Her mind suddenly wandered off to that day of her performance, then to the infirmary. *Golden blonde-orange hair… Certainly not Baekhyun.* “Hey, Baek,” she called him. After so much time hanging out after class like this, she shortened his name because she thought it sounded better that way. He hummed a ‘what’ in return. “Was it you who brought me to the infirmary? It wasn’t, right?”

“The infirmary?” he questioned. “You mean that day of the perofrmnace when you fainted?” Soyoung nodded. “Nope, it wasn’t me.”

“Then who was it?” Soyoung knew that Baekhyun knew. She remembered that he was there when she fainted. He wouldn’t just elave her there if she had fainted, but if he didn’t take her, then he absolutely knows the person who did take her.

Baekhyun gave her a weird look. “I thought you knew. Didn’t he tell you?”

“He? Another guy?”

Baekhyun gave it a thought before realization hit him. A chuckle came through his lips. *He didn’t say a word to her. No wonder he seemed to be complaining the other day.*

“What?” Soyoung suspiciously stared at him. “Why are you laughing?”

“Nothing,” Baekhyun laughed before getting up from the bench. “I have to go. My class is going to start any minute now. See you tomorrow, Soyoung.”

She frowned slightly as she knew he was right. “Give me your phone number.”

Confused, Baekhyun raised his brows. “My phone number? You want my number?”

“There are things I want to ask you about, but I don’t think I can wait for tomorrow.” Soyoung took out her phone. “You don’t mind if I text you after class today, do you?”

He quickly shook his head with a huge grin. “Not at all.” He took her phone into his hands and inputted his number in, causing his phone to ring. “There,” he grinned, handing the phone. “Be sure to save it. I’m looking forward to your text.”

Soyoung smiled as she took her phone back before bidding goodbye to him.

Next Friday?” He was troubled by the phonecall nor did he want to hear what he was hearing at that moment. “But the last one was only a month ago. Do I really have to attend this one?

You have to,” his mother’s giddy voice spoke over the phone. “Even though it’s only been a month, you need to go to this one.

Mom, you know I don’t like going to those events,” he whined over the phone.

I know,” she replied. “But your father wants you to go and I do too. You must show up, okay?

Luhan sighed heavily as he kept in his anger. This was annoying. “I’ll think about it. My class is going to start. I’m hanging up.

Without waiting for a reply, he hung up just like he had informed her. With an annoyed heart, he shoved his phone into his pocket. He had lied about having class right now. If anything, his last class ended 10 minutes ago and he still has at least 40 minutes till his next class to starts. He just didn’t want to hear about it anymore.

Business.

He never really did mind it before when he was younger, but as he got older, he got more involved. The more he was involved, the more he came to dislike it. It was one of the only reason why he had agreed to go study abroad in China so that he can escape the business world he knew his parents would try to put him in.

“Is going to a business event that dreadful? It’s a practically 2 weeks from now, yet, you sound like you’re dying already.”

Luhan rolled his eyes at Suho’s entrance. Today was actually Suho’s first day of college. Today was the day for late College starters to start their year off, and Suho just happened to be one of those students. Knowing this fact, Luhan had told Suho about where he’ll be when he isn’t in class and it just so happens that Suho had some free time before his next class starts as well.

“It seems like your parents have told you about the event too,” Luhan sighed as he leaned back on the bench.

Just like Luhan and Soyoung’s family, Suho’s family also expertise in the business world.

Suho shrugged, “I would’ve figured out if they didn’t tell me.” He sat next to Luhan and nudged the guy. “It’s not the end of the world if you go. Plus, it’s a practically two weeks from today. Relax.”

“You know I don’t like busness events, no matter how long I have until its actual date,” Luhan complained. His child-like behavior caused Suho to laugh.

“You’re so complicated,” Suho chuckled.

“I’m not like you who enjoys these stuff. They’re plain boring for me,” he made his point with a scowl on his face. “How do you even enjoy yourself in the business world?”

“It’s something I’ve always looked forward to since I was young,” Suho shrugged it off. “I guess like you are into music, I’m into business.”

Luhan glanced at him. “Please guide me through the business event next week, Kim Joonmyeon.”

Suho laughed at his child-like side. That’s what business always does; bring out Luhan’s immature side. “Will do,” he laughed as he patted Luhan’s shoulder.

“Business event?” Soyoung had just reached home an hour ago and was preparing herself for some upcoming exams when her mother brought up something about a business event. “In China?”

“Yeah,” her mom replied as she welcomed herself to sit on the chair beside Soyoung’s desk.

“Hmm, okay,” Soyoung nodded as she didn’t take her eyes off of the textbook. Studying hardcore was what she was doing. She can’t afford to do bad on the exams, especially when it comes to her stupid music classes that she had never intended to take. “I got it down. I’ll be sure to lock up the house when I leave for college and double check that I did.”

Her mom laughed, “That’s not what I meant, honey.”

Soyoung paused and looked up from her textbook, questioning her mother’s words. “Then what do you mean?”

“For this business event, your father and I want you to attend it with us,” she explained.

Soyoung gave a disapproving look. “But it’s all the way in China and I still have classes to attend. Must I remind you that winter break isn’t until next month?”

“Just go for the weekend,” her mom tried to persuade. “It’s next Friday. Taking one day off is fine, isn’t it? You’ll be back by Sunday.”

Soyoung never did like business events. It was always so tiring, greeting people she didn’t know and acting like she enjoyed meeting them. She quickly turned back to her textbook to focus. “I don’t want to go.”

“Come on,” her mom nudged her. “You haven’t gone to a business event since you were 12 years old.”

“Doesn’t that just prove so much of why I don’t want to go?” she sarcastically remarked, focusing on her school work. “Mom, I really don’t want to go. Can’t you and dad just go instead?”

“You’re so stubborn,” her mom rolled her eyes. “Just this once, just go. Plus, you’re not the only one going. Luhan is going too.”

Upon hearing the male’s name, Soyoung paused. Seeing this, her mom smiled and continued on before Soyoung could protest. “And I also heard that some of his friends will be attending this business event too. You won’t be the only one missing one day of your classes.”

*But if I go, what about Zico and Kyung? I was planning to hang out with them that weekend. We had it all planned out.* Soyoung shook her head. “I still don’t want to go. Just because he’s going with some of his friends doesn’t mean I will go.”

Her mother slumped over with a slight frown. “Why are you so difficult?”

She gave her mom a look. “I’m being difficult? I clearly told you that I don’t want to go but you keep pestering me about it. Plus, I already made plans with Zico and Kyung for that weekend. I am not going to cancel out on them because of some stupid business event. It’s been so long since I’ve hung out with them. This chance to hang out with them is practically gold.”

Her mother sighed, knowing what Soyoung had said is true. She hasn’t been seeing the two boys for a while now too. She remembered those high school mornings when they would always come over to pick Soyoung up, but now that they’re in college, their schedules were arranged differently, causing the three of them to not see each other much.

“Fine, I won’t force you to then,” Her mother gave up. “But, I do want you to think about this. I know you have plans with Zico and Kyung, but this business event isn’t a small one. It’s actually a huge one, probably a once in a life time business event, so think of it wisely. It’d be great to have you come, so really do consider it, okay?” She got up and kissed her daughter’s forehead before heading out.

Soyoung sighed dejectedly. *Way to make me feel guilty, mom.* She shoved everything aside and focused on her homework.
