If you can't?

I was unable to read JaeJoong's expression. I couldn't read his mind and I definitely couldn't see through him. He showed me only what he wanted me to see and he managed to do so. I saw regret, how much he regretted about his choice that he made centuries ago. How sad he felt deep within

I was speechless. I was unable to understand his choice of wanting to become a vampire. What could be so strong, what kind of reason was there for any human to choose this kind of life?

"Why?" I whispered

JaeJoong chuckled sarcastically

"I believed in something.. that turned out to be a lie. I believed in something which I wouldn't have. I was young.. and naive. I was thoughtless" He said

"Did a man talk you into this? Revenge?" I asked, straightening myself up, sitting up and facing him with my entire body, because the atmosphere started to change

I swallowed hard

JaeJoong sighed as he sat up as well

Suddenly I saw JaeJoong flinch, he closed his eyes as I saw his nose sniffed the air. I backed away from him, an automatic reflex as I saw his eyes change, his veins, his mouth and his teeth. The entire face changed. I felt my heart beating faster as I felt myself losing the control. What was happening?

JaeJoong then looked up, staring straight at me

"Don't.. be afraid" He said

"What's wrong?" I whispered, terrified

He got up from the couch and looked around in the livingroom.

"Stand up and back into the corner.." He said coldly

He was concentrating. He was focusing hard and it was apparently something nearby that must have caused him to be like this.

I did as I was told. I backed into the corner and JaeJoong approached me, walking backwards as he looked around in the livingroom

"Take.. this" He whispered

I looked down on his hand to see a stake. I swallowed hard, I was unable to move

"What is.. going on?" I stuttered as I felt myself becoming worried. I was terrified in fact

"Something's .. wrong" He whispered softly

I recognized JaeJoong's real self as he said that in a soft tone. I looked up at him and it was different. His face might be darker, he might look like a hunter, a killer. But even so it was amazing to see how he was able to control himself even though his eyes were darker than the night, and his sharp teeth was showing themselves.

I then realized that there must be blood nearby. Human blood. I looked at JaeJoong in shock, wondering if it wasn't hard for him to control himself. Shouldn't he be chasing the blood instead?

"JaeJoong? What's going on?"

The answer to my question burst right through the opening to the livingroom and I felt JaeJoong stiffen himself as he prepared himself in a position I was unable to imagine him in. But JaeJoong's thinking was quick. When he realized it was Yunho, Yoochun, Junsu and Changmin he was quick with hurrying over to their side. I gasped in horror, I felt my heart being folded, my blood froze into ice and I stared at Donghae as the guys carried him onto the couch

"DONGHAE!" I shouted

I ran over to him, trying to understand what had happened to him and my eyes became wider, I felt someone had put a knife through my heart as I saw a stake in his heart and he was even covered with blood

Donghae was obviously in pain because he could barel move. He didn't only have one stake in his body, there was one in his arm and one in his shoulder. I started to cry, unknowingly and silently. I looked at the guys faces but they were quiet as they tried to help him. All of their faces were dark. I looked at Donghae to see him covered in blood but it was vampire blood.. wasn't it?

"It's gonna hurt" JaeJoong said coldly

Donghae didn't respond but closed his eyes and prepared himself

JaeJoong was quick, he pulled the three stakes out of Donghae's body in no time but JaeJoong screamed in anger as he let go of the stakes and all of the stakes fell onto the floor

"What's.. what's going .. on?" I stuttered

I saw JaeJoong's hands. The hands were burned, and I even saw the insides of his hands. I gasped shockingly and covered my mouth as I listened to JaeJoong breathing heavily. He was quiet and it was obviously painful but not one single word came from his mouth after the first scream

JaeJoong stepped away from Donghae and Junsu and Yoochun was quick with helping Donghae, wrapping him up and patching him.

Suddenly a pair of arms was wrapped around me, he hugged me and covered my head into his chest as I felt him taking me away from there. It was Yunho

"You shouldn't.. watch this" He whispered

I nodded obediently as I sobbed at the same time onto his chest. Several minutes passed and soon I felt Yunho letting go of me and was replaced with JaeJoong's arms. His scent was strong, only JaeJoong would have this wonderful cologne and I couldn't help but to hold onto him as well as I waited more

"GAAAAAAAAARGH"

Donghae's scream caused me to look up and I saw what Yoochun and Junsu was doing to him. Yunho was soon by his side and handing him a bag with donated blood and in a few seconds Donghae finished the entire bag.

An hour passed and Donghae was now resting peacefully in the livingroom as I was sitting in the kitchen, still unable to speak or think after what I had just seen.

"I'm sorry you had to see that" JaeJoong whispered

I looked up and a tear fell. Changmin looked at me sadly as he was beside me in a second.

"What.. happened?" I whispered tiredly

JaeJoong sighed and looked at the guys and nodded at him

"Seems like we have more trouble than we thought we had" Yunho said

"What.. exactly.. happened? Tell me.. in detail.." I said

"We were looking for Donghae. His scent was hard to find since we barely know the guy and also because he's so unfamiliar with us. However, when we finally found him he had those vervain stakes in his body and he was dripping with blood. Seems like the vampires that had tortured him also covered him human blood" Yoochun said

"It can't be him. He can't be the vampire that is killing those innocent people in this town then" I whispered

"Exactly" JaeJoong said

Changmin suddenly wrapped a blanket around me and Junsu handed me a cup of vanilla tea.

"What is exactly going.. on here?" I whispered

I looked at all the guys but everyone shook their heads

"We don't know.." Yunho said

"Why.. is this happening.. All those people.. Donghae.. who knows what will happen next?" I said frustrated

"There won't be a next time" JaeJoong said and folded his arms

"How do you know? You don't even know who's causing all this trouble" I said sadly

JaeJoong remained quiet and so did the other guys

My hands were tightly holding onto the cup and I started to feel more and more emotionally tired

"Has any of these problems.. ever occured before?" I asked

All of them.. shook heads

"Never.. And we've been here for a long time already.. but never.. has anything like this occured" Changmin said

"Do you have any theories?" I whispered

"It can be.. vampires just roaming around" JUnsu suggested

"Or Vampires that just transitioned but are unable to control themselves" Yoochun said

I looked at JaeJoong who was looking back at me. Even he looked tired

"Or.. maybe..an old.. enemy" He whispered

"A.. what?"

I looked at JaeJoong for a long time and then at the other guys

"Do you have.. some unsettling.. business with a vampire? Someone's who's in a war with you?" I asked

All of them shook their heads

"We keep ourselves out of the way and we don't hang around other vampires" Yunho said

"Then.. why would you suggest an old enemy?" I asked and looked at JaeJoong

"It was just a suggestion" He said

"Don't.. lie to me" I whispered

"I'm not. I don't have any enemies. But I do now. Those vampires" He said strictly
