Chapter 95

Let's talk about love

Epilogue: SooSun

(SooSun's wedding photo)

Sooyoung's POV

"Mrs Choi, what time will you be arriving? We're getting burnt by the sun, waiting for you." I said through the phone. After a few minutes of talking, I ended the call.

"What time will Sunny Omma be here?" The voice of a young boy echoed from a distance as I looked up to face him.

"She said she'll reach in 15mins time. Do you want to eat first?" I asked the young boy who came to sit on my lap after he was done riding on his bicyle for the past 20mins.

"I want to wait for Sunny Omma. You told me before. A family that eats together, stays together. Am I right, Soo Omma?" The boy grinned at me as I nodded my head.

"Why don't we read a book first while waiting for Sunny Omma?" I took out a book while the boy nodded his head and hug his white soft toy.

As we were engrossed in reading, we didn't realise that someone was approaching us at a fast speed.

"Kyungsan-ah!!!"

The young boy looked up with a shocked expression before breaking into a smile when he saw the person who had shouted his name.

(Imagine this is 11yrs old - Choi Kyungsan)

"Sunny Omma!!" Kyungsan stood up from my lap and ran towards the smiling lady.

Seeing the two of them hugging and tickling each other, it brought a smile on my face. It's been almost 4yrs since my marriage to Sunny. Exactly 4 months after our marriage, Kyungsan came into our life at the age of 7yrs old. He's the same boy that me and Sunny used to visit in the orphanage when he was 4yrs old. He was already very close to us by then and he had no problem adapting to us and our parents. My parents and Sunny's parents love him a lot. I think they pampered him too much though.

"Hi Honey." Sunny sat down beside me and peck my cheeks.

"Hi Bunny." I replied with a smile as Kyungsan sat down between us.

"Soo Omma, Sunny Omma. Let's eat now. I'm already hungry." Kyungsan pouted and rubbed his tummy. "We should eat together then we can play together later."

I nodded my head as Sunny took out the sandwiches that I had brought along from the lunch basket. Sunny prepared Kyungsan's food while I prepared the drinks.

"Was there a lot of work in the hospital earlier? How come you were held up?" I asked as I handed the cup of orange juice to Sunny.

"There was a new batch of trainees today so I had to brief them on what to do earlier. They seemed to be very curious about a lot of things that they kept bombarding me with questions. Most of the questions were about their jobscope but there are some that are not job-related." Sunny explained as she wiped Kyungsan's mouth.

"Is it a group of boys again? I must remind Appa not to get so many male trainees for the next batch. They're just trying to flirt with you." I pouted as I heard Kyungsan giggling. "Why are you laughing at me, Choi Kyungsan?"

"Soo Omma, don't pout. It makes me want to cringe. Only Sunny Omma is good at making aegyo." Kyungsan laughed as I pretended to strangle him.

"Don't do that. He's still eating." Sunny slapped my hands away softly. "By the way, your Omma and Appa send their regards. They said they'll come over tomorrow for dinner."

My wife, Lee Soonkyu aka Sunny, had been working as a physiotherapist in the same hospital that my parents were working at. It's also the same hospital that Uncle Park is one of the major shareholders. Sunny had been working there since after she graduated. With her good results and recommendations from my parents, she didn't have problem getting a job there.

Sunny's POV

"Okay." Sooyoung nodded her head. "What do you plan to cook tomorrow? Do we need to go to the market to get the ingredients?"

Before I could reply to Sooyoung's question, Kyungsan lifted up his hand.

"Sunny Omma, can Kyungsan help you out tomorrow? I want to prepare dinner for Harabeoji and Halmeoni too." Kyungsan had a serious expression on his face as he said it earnestly.

"But you've got school tomorrow, Kyungsan-ah. Won't you be tired after you return from school? You need to do your assignments too." I said as I his head softly.

"If I can finish my assignments earlier, can I help you out then? I know you won't allow Soo Omma to help you since she'll end up eating the food before it's served." Kyungsan said as he grinned at Sooyoung who meronged at him. "Please, Sunny Omma."

I finally agreed to his request as Kyungsan jumped up with joy. He then said that he was already full and wanted to continue playing around. I nodded my head as he took the beach ball and started kicking it around, away from the picnic mat.

"Do you think we should train him to be a goalkeeper?" Sooyoung suddenly blurted out as the two of us continued watching him. "Both of us played as goalkeepers during our university times. Maybe he can be a great goalkeeper too."

"Let's just allow him to build his abilities first. Whether he'll end up as a goalkeeper like us or not, we'll still support him, right?" I said as I leaned my head on Sooyoung's shoulders.

"Of course. That's what a family does." Sooyoung replied as I felt her kissing the top of my head.

As the both of us continued watching Kyungsan playing around, I took a deep breathe and smiled. It wasn't an easy process for me and Sooyoung to adopt Kyungsan. From a legal point of view, it was not acceptable for two ladies to adopt a child since they claimed that it was not a complete family. But we had the support of Sooyoung's parents and with Jae's help, we finally managed to adopt him.

"Soo Omma, Sunny Omma. Come and play with me." Kyungsan's voice snapped me out of my thoughts as me and Sooyoung stood up to join him.

Sooyoung's POV

After sending Kyungsan to the school, I drove off to my office. Walking into the 2-storey buildling, I smiled at the receptionist who had stood up to greet me. I continued walking to the lift and went up to the upper floor. I was greeted by my workers who bowed a little at me.

"Good morning, Soo-unnie." Amber greeted me as I greeted her back. "By the way, Taeng-unnie has not arrived yet."

"She's not here yet? I thought I was late but she's even later than me." I shook my head as Amber just grinned. "I'll be in my office then."

Amber nodded her head and continued doing her work while I walked into my office. Amber was working part-time since it's the summer break. She's in her last year of studies at SM university. Me and Taeyeon had just recently purchased this 2-storey building about 1yr ago after our company had managed to stabilise financially and had saved up our profits to move in to our own premises.

Our company, Miracle Pte Ltd, is co-owned by me and Taeyeon. It's actually dealing with event plannings such as roadshows, weddings or any hosting shows for private functions. During the starting phase, there was only me and Taeyeon who would be working hand in hand to handle the events ourselves but due to the overwhelming support, we had to start hiring helpers 6 months after we set up the company.

I was looking through the emails when I heard a knock at my door. Taeyeon's head popped out soon after with a dorky grin.

"What time are you suppose to report to work, Midget?" I pretended to look serious as Taeyeon walked in and sat on the couch in my room.

"I was just 10mins late." Taeyeon replied with a poker face. "Anyway, did  you received Sica's proposal for her event?"

I didn't manage to continue scolding Taeyeon as I looked back at my computer to look for the email sent by Jessica. "Are you talking about the launching of her fashion line event?"

Taeyeon nodded her head. "I'll look through the proposal and we'll discuss it with the team after lunch later."

I agreed with Taeyeon's idea as she stood up to walk out from my room. "By the way, Taeng. I won't be joining you and Amber for lunch today. I need to pick Sunny up to go grocery shopping. My parents are coming over for dinner."

Taeyeon showed me an 'okay' sign as she closed the door behind her.

Sunny's POV

I had just finished handling one of my patients when I felt my phone vibrating again inside my white coat. After the patient left my room, I took my phone and noticed two messages from Sooyoung. I read the first message that I received 25mins ago.

To Bunny:

I've just left the office and should be reaching there in 20mins time.

'That means Soo is already here.' I thought to myself as I hurriedly stood up and looked at the next message.

To Bunny:

Where are you? I'm already at the basement.

I typed a quick reply, informing her that I'm on my way down and slipped the phone into my handbag as I removed my coat to hang it at the back of my armchair. I had just closed the door of my office when I heard someone calling my name.

"Doctor Lee."

I turned around to see a male trainee walking up to me. I recognised him from the new batch yesterday. I smiled and waited for him to speak.

"Doctor Lee, sorry to disturb you. Are you having your lunch break now?" He asked as he smiled nervously.

"I am." I answered as I glanced at my watch. "As a matter of fact, I'm already running late for my lunch appointment."

"Damn." I heard the young man answered to which I was taken aback. "Sorry for the language, Doctor Lee. I was actually thinking of asking you out for lunch but I guess someone else beat me to it. May I know with whom you're having lunch with?"

"With me." I didn't have the chance to answer when Sooyoung appeared behind us. "Hi, nice to meet you. I'm Choi Sooyoung and also Doctor Lee's wife lunch date for today. And you are?"

"I'm Sungmin." He introduced himself as he looked at Sooyoung with a confused expression.

"You must be one of the new trainees here since I've not seen you around before." Sooyoung smiled before turning to face me. "Bunny, are you ready to go? I need to be back at the office by 2pm. There's a meeting after lunch." Sooyoung said as I nodded my head.

"I'm going off first, Sungmin. By the way, I won't be back for duty after lunch so if you need any help, you can seek help from Doctor Bae too." I said as I saw Sungmin nodding his head.

I linked my arms with Sooyoung's and walked away with a grinning Sooyoung to the basement where the car was.

"Do you think that boy will be confused throughout his lunch break?" Sooyoung asked as she drove the car out of the carpark.

"He's already 24yrs old, a man. Not a boy. Our Kyungsan is a boy." I replied as Sooyoung chuckled. "I think he might be a little shock since he didn't know that I'm married, especially to another lady. But then, it's none of my concern. Unless it has got something to do with the hospital or the patients under my care."

Sooyoung continued to laugh while nodding her head as she asked me what I was planning to cook later. We reached the fresh market 10mins later and all the grocery shopping was completed in 30mins time. We decided to have a quick lunch at a cafe nearby before walking back to the car.

"Eat this during the meeting later. I know you're rushing for time but that sandwich won't be enough for you to last until dinner." I handed a bag of packed carbonara pasta to Sooyoung who had a wide smile on her face. "By the way, do you have a project coming up? It's very rare that you'll have a meeting after lunch."

"It was Taeng's idea. She wanted to discuss about Sica's proposal. She's engaging us for the launch of her fashion line event." Sooyoung explained as I noticed that we're almost reaching our house.

"Sica? I thought she's still in Japan?" I asked as I tried to remember it correctly.

"She is. But she'll be coming back in two months time for the event." Sooyoung replied as she stopped the car just outside of the house. "Do you need me to fetch Kyungsan later?"

"It's okay. I should be able to do so. I just need to tidy up the house a little and I'll fetch him after that. You'll be busy with the meeting so you should just focus on that. Arraseo?" I replied as Sooyoung nodded her head and said her thanks before driving off.

I walked into our house and placed the bags of grocery on my dining counter. The next hour was done cleaning up the house before I got ready to fetch Kyungsan from school. He was surprised to see me there since Sooyoung would be the one who would usually fetch him. After fetching him, Sooyoung would bring him to his office and he would stay there until Sooyoung finished work.

"Where's Soo Omma?" Kyungsan asked as he climbed into the car and put on his safety belt.

"Soo Omma is having a meeting at the moment so we shall not disturb her, okay?" I said as Kyungsan nodded his head before he asked if we're going to the hospital right now. "Anni. We're going home now. Sunny Omma has already ended work and needs to go home to prepare dinner for Harabeoji and Halmeoni who are coming over."

"Sunny Omma, why don't you bring me to your workplace sometimes? Am I not allowed to be in the hospital? Soo Omma always bring me to her workplace." Kyungsan asked.

"It's not that I don't want to bring you to my workplace, Kyungsan-ah. But the hospital is big and I can't be watching you all the time. Soo Omma's office is smaller and they have people there who can look after you if Soo Omma is busy. I hope you won't misunderstand." I said as I felt bad after hearing what Kyungsan had said.

"Anni, Omma. I was just curious. I know you and Soo Omma always have my best interest in mine. I just thought that maybe sometimes, I can go to the hospital to play with the kids there. It gets lonely for me sometimes. I miss my two dongsaeng too." Kyungsan said as he looked down on his feet.

It was the first time that I actually heard Kyungsan expressing his loneliness and frankly speaking, I was surprised. I made a mental note to talk about it with Sooyoung later.

"Kyungsan-ah, mianhae. Omma doesn't know about your feelings. I think Soo-Omma also doesn't realise it too." I said as Kyungsan turned to smile at me.

"Gwenchana, Omma. You don't have to apologise. It's not your fault or Soo Omma's fault." Kyungsan grabbed my arm and hugged it. "I love both of you a lot. Please don't feel bad about what I've said."

"Shall we go and visit the orphanage one of these days?" I suggested as Kyungsan looked up and nodded his head excitedly with a big smile on his face. "I'll ask Soo Omma later about her schedule."

"Let's invite everyone to visit the orphanage." Kyungsan suggested as I agreed with his idea.

********************************

Sooyoung's POV

The doorbell rang as I saw Kyungsan running towards it as I switched off the TV. From the greetings that I heard from Kyungsan, I knew that my parents had arrived. Walking into the kitchen, I saw Sunny placing a bowl of rice on the table.

"Bunny, Omma and Appa are here."

"Okay. Go and greet them. I'll be out in a while." Sunny replied as she went to the sink to wash her hands.

By the time I walked back to the living room, my parents were already seated at the couch with Kyungsan in between them. He was busy telling them stories about what he had been learning and doing in school. I greeted them before sitting on the opposite chair. My parents and Sunny's parents would come over at least twice a month to have dinner with us and sometimes we would go over to their places to have dinner too. Once in a while, we would have a family gathering where both families would eat together.

"Annyeonghaseyo, Omma, Appa." Sunny walked in as Omma stood up to give her a hug and a peck on her cheeks while Appa just smiled and nodded his head.

"Aish, Omma. This is not fair. I greeted you earlier and you didn't even hug or give me a kiss." I pouted as I folded my arms while Sunny sat down beside me.

"Aigoo, my big baby. Pouting over such a small matter. I was busy listening to Kyungsan when you greeted me earlier." Omma Choi said, causing me to pout again.

"See. You even treat Kyungsan better than me." I replied while Sunny shook her head.

"Soo Omma, I've already said. No pouting." Kyungsan frowned a little as he showed his discontentment while I just meronged at her.

"Stop being childish, Honey." Sunny slapped my arms softly. "Let's have dinner first before the food turns cold."

"Halmeoni, Harabeoji. I helped Omma with dinner earlier. I came back from school, finish my assignments and help Sunny Omma in the kitchen." Kyungsan had a proud look on his face as Omma Choi and Appa Choi complimented him. "So later, Soo Omma will do the dishes. That's what Sunny Omma said."

"Yah!! I didn't agree to that." I said before my Omma pulled my ears. "Ouuchhh, ouuch.. Pain, pain."

"You should help with the household chores too, Choi Sooyoung. Since my daughter-in-law and grandson had took the effort to prepare dinner, you should help with the dishes. Don't you agree?" Omma Choi said while still pulling my ears.

"Arraseo, arraseo. I'll wash the dishes earlier." I replied while nodding my head quickly, causing laughter to everyone.

We talked about a lot of random things during dinner before Kyungsan excused himself after he was done eating. He told us that he wanted to play some games in his room as I nodded my head.

Sunny's POV

"Remember not to sit too near the TV when you're playing the game and not too loud, okay." I said to Kyungsan who nodded his head.

"Halmeoni, Harabeoji. Don't go home without saying goodbye to me, okay. Promise?" Kyungsan showed his pinky finger to my mother-in-law and father-in-law.

"He really reminds me of the both of you. Addicted to playing games." Appa Choi said after Kyungsan walked out from the kitchen. "Luckily , he's not a shikshin like Sooyoung."

"Appa!!" Sooyoung pouted again as I giggled. "By the way, did Kyungsan's teacher say anything to you when you went to pick him up earlier?"

Sooyoung turned to face me as I shook my head. The teacher would sometimes informed us if there's any urgent matters that need our attention.

"Speaking of which, there's something that I need to tell you." I told them about my conversation with Kyungsan in the car and just like how I had expected, Sooyoung was shocked to hear about it.

"He's feeling lonely?" Sooyoung said as I noticed a slight frown on her face. "So what did you tell him?"

"I suggested for us to visit the orphanage one of these days and he was so happy with my suggestion." I said as Sooyoung nodded her head.

"I'll check my schedules and maybe we can plan a small gathering after visiting the orphanage." Sooyoung said as I told her that I'll try to see what I can do with my schedule too.

"Why don't you both adopt another child?" Appa Choi suddenly spoke which brought silence to the atmosphere.

"It's not that I don't want to adopt another child, Appa. Me and Sunny had discussed this before. When we managed to bring Kyungsan home, he was already 7yrs old. He knew that we're not his real parents and that he was adopted. Even though he had never asked about his background before, Kyungsan was very independent. He didn't want to trouble us in anyway and was always obedient. Sometimes I feel like he felt indebted to us." Sooyoung explained.

"Me and Soo wants to concentrate all our love and whatever time we have just for him. We are just afraid that if we adopt another child, Kyungsan might feel a little distant or he might feel that he needs to be more independent since there's a new family member. We didn't want him to feel that way. Furthermore, both me and Soo are really busy with our work. We're already feeling bad for not spending much time with Kyungsan and we didn't want to add to that burden with another baby." I added on as Appa Choi and Omma Choi nodded their heads.

"Let's plan a family trip too. Maybe in a one or two months time. It's been sometime since I last met your parents, Sunny." Omma Choi suggested before all of us cleared the table.

While Sooyoung was cleaning the dishes, I brought Omma Choi and Appa Choi to Kyungsan's room. The boy was concentrating on his racing game that he didn't realised that we had entered his room.

"Kyungsan-ah, your grandparents are going back home." I said as he quickly paused his game.

"Omma, can I sleepover at Halmeoni's and Harabeoji's place? I rather spend time with them than going to the school trip tomorrow. Please, Sunny Omma." Kyungsan gave me his puppy eyes and with my parents-in-law agreeing to his suggestion, all I could do was to nod my head.

********************************

Inside the bedroom,

"Have you informed his class teacher about him not going to the school trip?" Sooyoung walked towards the bed after she was done washing up.

Sunny nodded her head to Sooyoung's question as she stretched out her hand, welcoming Sooyoung into her embrace. Sooyoung hugged Sunny for a while before lying down on Sunny's lap.

"Bunny, do you agree with what Appa said earlier? About adopting another baby?" Sooyoung asked as Sunny her hair softly.

"I'm just afraid that I'll won't have time to take care of the baby well. With the workload that I'm having right now, I don't think I can manage it well." Sunny replied as Sooyoung slowly closed her eyes. "Honey, should we invite the rest of the girls when we visit the orphanage? Kyungsan said that he missed Manse and Miyeon too."

Sooyoung's eyes popped up with Sunny's question. "I think that's a good idea but I'm not sure if Jae will be free by then. Taeng informed me that Jae has been busy with her new hotel project in Thailand and if I'm not wrong, she's currently attending a meeting in Hong Kong. I can't remember when she'll be back though. Sica is also not around since she'll most probably be back only in two months time."

"Why don't we just contact them first and tell them about our plan? Whoever can make it on that day, can just meet us there. We should invite Amber and Krystal too. Come to think of it, it's been some time since we last had a group outing with everyone. Not only Kyungsan misses his friends. I also misses the girls too." Sunny said as Sooyoung sat up and laid down beside Sunny.

"Don't you miss me too?" Sooyoung teased and chuckled at her own remark but she was surprised with Sunny's next action.

Sunny swiftly turned to her sides and straddled Sooyoung. "Honey, is it okay if you were to report late for work tomorrow?"

"W..wa.. wae...yo?" Sooyoung stammered when she saw Sunny smirking while her fingers were drawing circles on Sooyoung's arms.

"Because I'll be on afternoon shift duty tomorrow and Kyungsan had followed Omma Choi and Appa Choi home. So it'll just be the two of us tonight. Frankly speaking, I miss you a lot. Your touches and your kisses." Sunny giggled before pouting her lips.

"Well, I'm one of the bosses there anyway. I don't see why I can't report late for work." Sooyoung grinned as she leaned forward to give Sunny a passionate kiss.
