Chapter 25

Let's talk about love

We were all gathered at the table, just after we finished eating except for Sooyoung who was still helping herself out with the desserts.

"Jae, Yul. How come the two of you doesn't look shocked at Taeng's outburst just now? Me and Soo were already panicking when we couldn't get her off from Siwon." Hyoyeon asked.

"We've seen her outburst before. So we kind of expected it. You should never messed with Taeyeon when it comes to her family." I grinned at Taeyeon who smirked.

"Taeng punched the nose of a guy before during middle school. The guy was twice her size. Just because that guy made fun of the packed lunch that her mum prepared for her." Yuri continued.

"Wow, I didn't know that my Taetae was so violent. But I kind of find it y when she showed her temper."

The rest of us groaned in disgust when Tiffany suddenly hugged Taeyeon and gave her a peck on her cheeks. I then told her about the time I wanted to wrap Taeyeon in pink and just gave it to Tiffany. The rest of the girls curled into balls when they heard about Taeyeon's reply to it.

"Yah!! Park Hyun Jae. Stop talking abut me. At least I'm only cheesy and not Byun like you. ByunJae!!"

"You're more Byun than me. You always stare at Fany's and then giggle by yourself everytime Fany does her cheerleading routine." I said as I meronged at her.

"At least I don't put her sleeping face on my phone's locked screen with the caption, 'My Angel' on it"

"Yah!! How did you..?" I haven't even finished my sentence when Taeyeon continued talking.

"Do you all want to know whose photo was it?" She smirked at me as I tried to stand up to cover . The thing is, Taeyeon was seating opposite me with Yuri on my left and Jessica on my right. I saw Taeyeon giving Yuri an eye signal and before I could react, Yuri had me in a headlock.

"Andwae!! Andwae!!..." I tried to get out from the grip when I saw Taeyeon teasing me by opening and closing , pretending as if she was about to say out the name.

"Sorry to disturb all of you but can I talk to Jessica in private for a while?"

All of us turned towards the manly voice and saw Donghae smiling at us. Yuri let go of me as I looked at Jessica. I caught her sighing before she stood up and walked away with Donghae. Suddenly the table became quiet before Tiffany voiced out.

'Who's that guy? He looks familiar though."

"He's Lee Donghae. Same class with me and Taeyeon. If I'm not mistaken, he's also part of the organising committee of school events, like Siwon. He studied in the same high school as Sica." Sooyoung answered the question.

"But he's been bugging Sica lately ever since Sica agreed to be his friend at the celebration event that day. I just find him suspicious. Like he's got something up his sleeve." Sunny said with a frown on her face.

"Maybe he's really sincere about being friends with Sica. Let's don't judge others." Seohyun said with an innocent smile.

The rest of the girls then started to talk about something else as I kept stealing glances towards Jessica's direction. I don't know why but I had an uneasy feeling about that Donghae guy.

Jessica came back to the table 10mins later, looking a bit agitated. When Sunny asked her about it, Jessica said that Donghae had called her aside to ask if she wanted to go back to the dorm with him but she rejected the suggestion. He then assumed that the reason to why Jessica rejected his offer was because she was afraid that Taecyeon would be angry with her. Trying to supress her anger, Jessica had told Donghae that both of them are no longer together, causing him to apologise before walking away.

To make Jessica feel better, I then suggested for us to have another group outing to Han river next week. Jessica suddenly became excited during the discussion, making her forget about what happened with Donghae earlier. All of us decided to have the outing next Saturday since some of the girls already had prior arrangements during the weekdays. We all discussed about it until around 9pm before we decided to return to the dorm. Tiffany didn't follow us back since she hasn't packed her stuff. She will only return to the dorm tomorrow after the date with Taeyeon.

********************************

Donghae's POV:

They are not together anymore? How could that be? Don't tell me the debt had been cleared? If that's the truth, then what should I do to my plan? Aiishh.. Wasting all my effort if all these doesn't work. I can't believe that Taecyeon could just get away from it so easy. Just because he was rich, he kept insulting me when we were in high school. Because of him, I was replaced and then dropped from the high school futsal team. When we got into the university, I thought my life would be better without him around since he was taking a different course. Things did improved and I even got myself a girlfriend from a different university since last year. But that arrogant had to come and steal my girlfriend away. Even when I told her that Taecyeon already had a girlfriend, she rather believed his story about being with Jessica only due to an arranged marriage. He told her that Jessica's family owed his family a lot of money. Since then, I had planned to steal Jessica away from him. But if they are no longer together, what do I do know? Talking about Jessica, that girl is actually not bad herself. Even though she's not as rich as my ex-girlfriend, her family is still quite well-to-do. Should I try my luck with her even though she seem quite difficult to woo? Maybe I should change my plans from taking revenge on Taecyeon to trying to win Jessica's heart instead.

********************************

I had followed Uncle Kwon to the orphanage the past few days. The place was quite big and I imagined Omma and Uncle Ken growing up there. Even so, the orphanage was really in a bad condition. It was badly taken care of as the paints on the walls were peeling off and the floorings needed to be replaced. I wondered how the kids were able to live in those kind of conditions. Seeing all those really made me feel thankful for what I have. The discussions and inspection of the place took almost half the day away.

I was quite tired when I reached the dorm at around 4pm. Tomorrow will be the day that the girls will be having the outing. When I opened the dorm door, I could hear a lot of noises inside. 9 pairs of eyes were looking at me when I walked into the living room.

"Hey everyone. What are you guys doing?"

"We were discussing about what to do tomorrow. SooSun and YoonYul will be in charge of food and they're asking our opinion on what to cook for tomorrow." Tiffany answered.

"Where did you go, Jae? You were already out when we came up at 11am just now. Come to think of it, we don't seem to have seen you around lately." Sunny asked while looking at me skeptically.

"Jae, are you dating someone behind our back?" Hyoyeon jokingly said as she laughed out loud.

"Anniyo.. I've just got something to do outside." I chuckled nervously as I rubbed my neck. Until now, the only people who knew about the orphanage were Taeyeon, Sooyoung and Yuri.

"Have you eaten?" Taeyeon asked, trying to change the topic.

"I've had a light lunch earlier. But I kind of feeling hungry right now. Are you guys going to order dinner?"

The moment Sooyoung heard the word dinner, her eyes brightened up. I told them to order some food for me while I go and have a shower. I noticed that Jessica has been quiet the whole time and she seem to be in deep thoughts. Suddenly I felt guilty for neglecting her the past few days. I've been to busy with the orphanage and also at the same time, dealing with the house ownership issue.

********************************

Jessica's POV:

Is Jae really dating someone like what Hyoyeon said? But Hyoyeon looks like she was joking. It's true what Sunny said that Jae seems busy lately. She didn't even message me much lately. Even Donghae message me more than she does. He doesn't seem to be as pushy as before though. His messages usually are just about greetings in the morning and night and also about asking what I was doing. If only it was Jae who was sending me those messages.

********************************

The food had already arrived the moment I was done showering and changed into a much more comfortable clothes. Tiffany, Sunny, Jessica, Yoona and Seohyun were eating at the dining table while the rest of the girls were eating at the living room table. I joined Yuri, Sooyoung, Taeyeon and Hyoyeon on the floor after taking my food from the dining table. I sat between Taeyeon and Yuri while Sooyoung and Hyoyeon were seated opposite us.

"Thanks for earlier Taeng." I whispered into Taeyeon's ears as she just nodded her head.

We were eating and talking when my phone suddenly rang. I saw Uncle Kwon's name on the screen and quickly answered it in whispers while I stood up and walked away into my room. I didn't realise that my actions were being observed by 2 pairs of eyes, seated at the dining table.

I returned to the living room after 20mins talking to Uncle Kwon. I sighed as I sat down on the floor. I noticed that Hyoyeon had left to the kitchen.

"What's wrong, Jae? You looked upset. What did my dad talked to you about?"

"There's some problem at the orphanage. I need to go down tomorrow morning to see it for myself with Uncle Kwon."

"But we're going to Han River tomorrow morning. Don't tell me you're not joining us." Taeyeon pouted.

"Hopefully it won't take long and I can still join you all after that."

"Should we inform the others about it?" Sooyoung asked as I nodded my head.

The 4 of us stood up and walked towards the dining table. At the same time, Hyoyeon also walked out from the kitchen and joined us.

"Girls, I just want to inform you all that I might not be able to join you all tomorrow due to some unforeseen circumstances but I'll try my best to make it there"

"Wae?" Everyone turned to look at Jessica who were staring at Jae with her deadly icy glare.

It was the first time that I heard her voice that day and it really sound like she's upset. I sighed as I replied saying that there's something that I need to attend to. Everyone was quiet after my explanation. No one said anything until Jessica stood up, took her plate and went to the kitchen. Sunny and Tiffany followed her and 10mins later the 3 of them left our dorm. Jessica said that she was feeling sleeping and wanted to rest early for tomorrow's outing.

********************************

I left the dorm at 8am and met up with Uncle Kwon at the university entrance. He came over to fetch me and we drove off to the orphanage. The girls were still not awake since they will only be meeting up at 10am. We arrived at the orphanage 30mins later.

"Annyeonghaseyo, Mr Kwon. I'm sorry for troubling you like this. It seems that we won't be able to complete the painting and flooring replacement by today due to shortage of manpower."

A young man greeted Uncle Kwon and explained to him the whole situation. Uncle Kwon had hired a group of people to help with the paintings and floorings replacement for the orphanage. They were supposed to complete it all by today so that the construction of the interior space could commence on Monday. Since Appa wanted the orphanage to be ready before Christmas, we're running on a tight schedule at the moment. Any delays will disrupt the whole project.

"But you promised that everything will be done by today. I've already paid you the full amount to settle all this." Uncle Kwon was not happy with how things are being done at the moment."

"Like I've explained earlier, I'm currently down on manpower. We've already completed the floorings though. What is left now is only to repaint the walls. I could try to finish it off by tomorrow but that will mean extra charges since my workers will need to work on  Sunday." The young man smirked at Uncle Kwon.

Before Uncle Kwon could reply him, I asked the man to excuse us for a while as I pulled Uncle Kwon to one side.

"Uncle Kwon, where did you manage to get his service? He sounds so unprofessional. Shortage of manpower shouldn't be of any concern for us since it's his job to get the work done."

"I'm sorry, Jae. I was trying to save cost by employing him since he offered a cheap price. This is my first time hiring them. I didn't expect this to happen."

"It's okay, Uncle Kwon. From the way he reacted, it looks like he's doing it on purpose to get the extra money. We shouldn't give in to his demands. Let me handle this."

I walked towards the man as Uncle Kwon stood beside me. I told him that since he was not able to complete the job that was given to him, we won't further his services. I told him that we won't ask for any refunds for the incomplete job and asked him to clear off the place by today. The young man was disappointed that he was not able to make extra money from it as he left the building with his workers. I then told Uncle Kwon that I'll try to come up with something to settle the problem. Before I left the orphanage, I decided to walk around the orphanage with Uncle Kwon to check on the floorings just to ensure that it was done properly so as to avoid any future problems.

Meanwhile at the Han river

The girls had already settled down as they took out the breakfast that they had brought along. Everyone was feeling hungry and excited except for Jessica who looked like she wasn't in the mood. Taeyeon nudged Tiffany at her shoulder, giving a signal to her girlfriend to look at Jessica.

"Hey, Jessi. Why aren't you eating?"

Jessica replied that she was not hungry as she took out her phone to reply a message. It was almost 11am when everyone was done with their breakfast. By then, Jessica was feeling more awkward with the atmosphere since she was the only one who was there without a partner. The girls were about to discuss on what to do next when they heard a familiar voice.

"Hi everyone. Nice to see you all again. Having fun?" Donghae came up to them while he riding his bicycle.

"Donghae? How come you're here?" Sooyoung asked.

"I usually go cycling on Saturdays around the Han river. Hey, Jessica. Want to hitch a ride with me? We can cycle for a while and let your friends have some couple-time alone."

Hearing Donghae mentioned about couple time, it suddenly made Jessica felt outcasted. She decided to join Donghae for a while as she stood up and sat on the metal part of Donghae's bicyle which is between him and the handle. Jessica told the girls that she would be back soon as they rode off.

"I can't believe that Donghae could suddenly appear out of nowhere and met us." Taeyeon said as she folded her arms after Donghae and Jessica rode off.

"Sica was the one who told him earlier. I managed to take a peep when she was replying to his message. He asked Sica what she was doing and that pabo Sica, told him that she was at Han river with us." Yoona replied.

"I still feel that there's something fishy about him. Youngie, you and Taeng are in the same course as him right? Do you know anything about him or his character?" Sunny asked Sooyoung who frowned as if she was thinking.

"He was quite a low-profile person. But if I remember correctly, he used to have a girlfriend last year but I heard that they've broken up because the girl cheated on him." Sooyoung replied after some time.

"Do we know who's that girl?" Hyoyeon asked.

"She's from another university but I heard she was quite rich." Taeyon added on.

"If only Jae was here, I can bet you that Jessica won't even bother about that guy. What's with Jae, anyway? Why does she seem so busy lately? What if she's really dating someone behind our backs?"

"Anni!!" Sooyoung, Yuri and Taeyeon replied at the same time before they started to giggled nervously.

"Does anyone want to play with the kites? It's quite windy right now." Yuri suddenly said, changing the topic.

In the end, everyone except for Sooyoung and Sunny decided to play with the kites

********************************

"Choi Sooyoung, you better tell me the truth right now or I'm not going to go out to any dates with you anymore." Sunny glared at Sooyoung the moment they were left alone.

"Wha.. What do you mean, Bunny? I'm.. I'm not keeping anything from you." Sooyoung replied nervously.

"You know how observant I am and how much I hate when someone lies to me. Jae is hiding something from us but you, Taeng and Yul knew about it. The phone call yesterday when Jae answered in whispers and when the 3 of you denied instantly about Jae dating behind our backs. I'm giving you one more chance, Choi Sooyoung."

"I.. I.. I..."

"Let me explain myself then."

Sooyoung and Sunny were shocked to hear my voice from the back. I had arrived 5 mins earlier, just when the girls were walking away from the mat to play with the kites and I had overheard the conversation between Sooyoung and Sunny. I sat down and faced them.

"Before I start, please forgive Soo, Taeng and Yul. They are just trying to help me by keeping all these a secret. The reason to why I've been busy lately is because I'm helping my dad with the renovation project of an orphanage here in Seoul that he had just acquired. I was put in-charge of the interior designing of the building and also to oversee the whole project, ensuring that everything runs smoothly."

"Wait... Your dad purchased an orphanage and even planned to renovate it. You mean your dad is rich? I thought your family is like Taeyeon's."

"Bunny, Jae is rich. Very very rich. She's ten times richer than Yuri."

"Mworago?!! But Yuri is like one of the richest kids in school and if Jae is ten times richer, doesn't that makes her the richest kid in our university?"

"Well, you could say that. I know you'll be shock, Bunny. I was shocked too when I went to her house before."

"Okay. Let's stop talking about the rich part. Anyway, my dad wants the orphanage to be ready by Christmas which is in about 3 months time so we're kind of running on a tight schedule. That's why I've been busy trying to help out in anyway."

"If your dad is so rich, why didn't he just hire a professional designer to take charge of everything? Why does it have to be you?" Sunny asked.

"Because I needed the money so I took up the job. I've already received the money from my dad so now I need to finish up the job assigned to me."

"I'm confused. You're rich but you need to work to get the money. Why can't you just ask your dad to give you the money?" Sunny was frowning.

"Any parents would have gone crazy if their child suddenly asked for 500million won." I giggled myself. "My parents are not the kind that pampers me with wealth. I need to earn whatever money that I needed. Even though they've set up a saving account for me, I could only used it when I'm 21yrs old. But I'm thankful for that. At least I appreciate the value of money."

"Wow, your parents are really daebak. No wonder you don't behave like a spoiled rich kid. Wait a minute... Did you say 500 million won? Were you the one who gave Jessica's mum the money?" Sunny pointed at me with accusing eyes.

"Soo, your girlfriend should really apply to be a private investigator when she graduates." I said as Sooyoung laughed at my comment. "Yes, Sunny. I was the one who gave it but please don't tell her that." I gave my puppy eyes to Sunny.

"I knew there's something going on  when the 4 of you didn't react to the news of Sica's wedding being called off. The reason is because you all already knew what happened. But why shouldn't Sica know about it? From my observation, I think Jessica has got feelings for you and if she knows that you're the one who's helping her, won't she feel touched?"

"Or she could feel indebted to me. We're not sure how she really feels about me and I don't want her to accept me because she felt indebted. Knowing her, she would accept anyone who declared to be the saviour right now." I chuckled.

"Well, I respect your decision but I still need to punish this shikshin for keeping me in the dark all this while. So no dates until school reopens." Sooyoung groaned as both of us laughed at her.

"By the way, where's Jessica?" I asked as I noticed that Jessica was not among the girls who were playing with the kites.

"She left with Donghae earlier. On his bicycle. I guess she felt awkward being the only one without a partner." Sunny replied.

"Oooohhh... " I answered half-heartedly as that's the only reaction I could give at the moment. I felt pain in my heart, imagining her spending time alone with Donghae. I decided to just lie down on the mat and before I knew it, I had fallen asleep.

Somewhere along the Han river

Donghae had stopped his bicycle near a bench as he and Jessica took a seat to rest for while. Throughout the ride, Jessica has been quiet and only he was the one talking all this while.

"The weather seems nice today. Don't you think so, Jessica?"

"Hhhhmmm.." Jessica replied with a nod.

Donghae was getting agitated since he was not getting the response that he wished for so he decided to start on his plan. "Jessica, I didn't mean to sound rude or being a nosy but if you and Taecyeon are no longer together, does that mean the arranged marriage is off?"

Jessica was shocked to hear it from Donghae. Not many people knew about it and those who knew are people who are close to them. "How.. How did you know about the arranged marriage?"

Donghae tried to control his excitement by pretending to look concern. "There was one night that I found him drunk at a nearby club. I was just passing by and I recognised him so I helped him out. He was talking nonsense but I heard him say about having to be in an arranged marriage to you because of your family debts." Donghae came up with a story as he lied to Jessica.

"He was drunk and he said all that?" Jessica suddenly felt angry at the whole situation. "Well, I'm glad everything is over now. Thanks to an anonymous kind soul, we were able to pay off the debts."

"So you mean you didn't know who cleared the debts for you?" Donghae asked to which Jessica shook her head as she looked down. Without Jessica realising, he was smirking by himself at the side.

"Let's go back to the girls. I think we've been away for some time now." Jessica said as she looked at her watch which showed that it was already 12.30pm

Donghae dropped Jessica about 1km away from the spot that the girls were gathered. He said that he needed to go off soon and won't be able to join them. He thanked Jessica for spending time with him and rode off. As Jessica walked towards the girls, she noticed that they were preparing the food for lunch and also a familiar body was lying at the corner of the mat. She smiled as she realised that the person was Jae.

"Hey, Jessi. You're back. Where's Donghae?" Tiffany asked as she looked around.

"He went off. Said that he had something to do. When did Jae arrive and how come she's sleeping?"

"Not sure. We came back from playing with the kites to find her already here, sleeping. Maybe you can ask Soo or Sunny when they get back from buying drinks for us." Taeyeon replied.

Jessica nodded her head as she took a seat near to Jae's head, being careful not to wake her up. She looked at Jae's sleeping face and can't help herself from smiling. Sunny and Sooyoung came back after buying the drinks and Jessica wasted no time to ask the both of them about Jae. They told her that she arrived about an hour ago and had fallen asleep after chatting with them for a while.

"Sica, can you help to wake Jae up since you're the nearest to her?" Yuri asked.

Sica nodded her head and bend down to softly called out Jae's name. When there was no reaction, she gently shook Jae's shoulders but there was still no movement from Jae.

"Park Hyun Jae!!"
