Year 14

 

"Where is he?" Chanyeol asked frazzled and confused as he ran up to the others in the corridor 

 

" you" Kris growled throwing his fist into Chanyeol's face 

 

"Guess I deserved that" Chanyeol half laughed, half winced "Now where's Baekhyun?" 

 

"In there" Suho said softly pointing at the glass doors "you can't go in just yet" 

 

"He's gonna be okay right?" Chanyeol started sobbing "This is all my fault" 

 

"Chanyeol I-" Suho was cut off abruptly by an angry Sehun 

 

"What did he do to make you leave the country huh? How come you left him? All he ever did was love you and you just left him! You left him to do this to himself, you let him do this" 

 

"Sehun calm down" Luhan said sternly before looking at Chanyeol with a mixture of emotions, relief, disappointment, anger and sympathy "I'm sorry Chanyeol... We all know how hard this is for you... But we also know what you did to Baekhyun was wrong, you should of contacted him directly than talk about him to us" 

 

"Chan- I know this sounds weird coming from me, because well- I'm me and I've had a rocky beginning with Kyungsoo too, trust me it was a horrible way to start our story anyway- I don't understand why you had to leave for so long but I think we should cut you some slack because we all know how much he loves Baekhyun and we all trust him enough to know he wouldn't leave Baekhyun forever" Jongin finished staring at Kris and Sehun 

 

"Okay another random speech about Chan and Baek because I'm awesome and also no one thinks anything coherent is in my brain and I'm just gonna prove everyone wrong" Chen smirked a little "Chan what you did was ing wrong, leaving him like that? Suho had to give up his home to go live with him, you made everyone so angry at you- including Luhan, Kyungsoo and Tao and they never get angry, but what I'm saying is I understand okay? It's okay to be a jerk like that because life hasn't been fair to you has it? You were in a dark place and none of us noticed none of us were there for you when you needed us- so you left to find someone who could help you, to make you stronger you did this out of love for Baekhyun because you wanted to be a better person you wanted to be strong for him, you did this for him" Chen said this all with a straight face while holding Mindae believe it or not 

 

"I just- I needed to do it, it wasn't because I didn't love Baekhyun because I love him so much I really do, but I couldn't pretend I was okay anymore you know? I had to leave so I could come back and actually be okay but I learnt that you should never give up on someone who loves and cares for you because one day you'll wake up and realise you lost the moon while counting the stars- I realised that Baekhyun would make everything okay" 

 

"Why is your hair brown now?" Tao asked quietly 

 

"They made me dye it..." 

 

"What? Why?" 

 

"Well it had to be a natural colour and apparently copper isn't a natural colour so I had to dye my natural hair brown to fit the criteria" 

 

"For..?" 

 

"Spiritual retreat in Bali...?" 

 

"Great" Kris rolled his eyes 

 

"Hey Chanyeol are you hungry? I have some choco pies left if you want" Kyungsoo asked digging into his bag "We need to go check on Jaejoong soon and take him to daycare- we'll be back though" 

 

Chanyeol took the choco pie from Kyungsoo and started nibbling at it- he wasn't all that hungry, how could he be with Baekhyun in hospital like this 

 

Kyuhyun suddenly opened the glass door and the choco pie lay on the sterile floors

 

"Nice to see you Chanyeol- I took Baek under my wing" He smiled a little "He's awake... Immediate family only so I guess only Yeol is allowed" 

 

Kris stared at Chanyeol for a long time "Chan- I love you but you're so damn stupid... So don't up this time okay?" 

 

"I'll try my best"

"Baekhyun?" 

 

"Ch-Chanyeol? Is it you?" Baekhyun lifted his hand weakly in the direction Chanyeol was walking 

 

"I'm so so sorry" he broke down in tears taking a seat next to the bed grasping onto Baekhyun's skinny fingers against his own 

 

They were cold

 

Chanyeol shivered a little as he took in his lovers appearance 

 

"Have you been eating?" Chanyeol asked leaning back to get a better look 

 

Gaunt cheeks, hollow eyes, bony wrists 

 

"Not really..." Baekhyun looked away 

 

"W-why not?" 

 

"Because you weren't here!" Baekhyun shouted "How can I sleep, eat, laugh anything because you aren't here!" 

 

"I-I'm sorry!" 

 

"That's the worst bit" Baekhyun said tears in his eyes "I can't even blame you because I know what you've been through, I understood why you left... It just didn't change anything" 

 

"Baekhyun... I know you're angry... I don't blame you... But I've learnt- I've learnt how lost I am without you, I lost the moon while counting the stars, I lost you trying to find my way- to find peace with myself and what happened to my family, but you, it's you- you're the answer Baek, you are my centre you are my moon, I know I've made so many mistakes and broken so many promises and I haven't always treated you the way you deserved but I love you and I'm never going to let you forget that" 

 

"Chanyeol-" 

 

"I'm really sorry, you needed me and I wasn't there for you- I couldn't help you, couldn't save you, I had to leave to come back stronger and come back without a secret ball of rage and anger in my heart, I had to learn" 

 

"Why couldn't you take me with you?" Baekhyun trembled a lone tear tumbling down his cheek 

 

"It was my problem Baek, you were fine" 

 

"Just promise to never leave me again" 

 

"I promise" 

 

"Chanyeol I know I'm not perfect and I definitely know that we're not perfect you know I can't promise to be the answer to everything- I can't promise to fix all the problems... But I can promise you I can be there for you to help get through these problems and we can do it together" 

 

"I know" Chanyeol said smiling tears in the corner of his eyes "I love you" 

 

"I love you too" 

 

"Baekhyun... You're so thin" Chanyeol said pulling away the hospital gown revealing his arms which now didn't have much more than skin and bone- veins protuding out

 

"Yeah..." 

 

"Was Suho's cooking that bad...?" 

 

"Chanyeol it's fine okay? Suho's cooking was fine... Well at least I think it is... Dara eats it" 

 

"When can you get discharged?" 

 

"This afternoon... It was only a sleeping pill overdose" 

 

"There is nothing worse than anything you're in hospital and that's a bad thing in itself"

 

"I just can't believe you're actually here... Like I feel you could just disappear and I'll be alone again- like a dream- a really good one" 

 

"I'm here and I'm real" Chanyeol grinned  "I'm going to go spend the afternoon with Dara then I'm going to drop Dara off at Jongdae's then you and me are going places" 

 

"Sounds good" Baekhyun whispered meekly 

 

"I'll never leave you alone again Baekhyun it's a promise" Chanyeol leaned down and kissed his lovers cheek before walking slowly out the door to a million questioning eyes

 

"Did he yell and scream at you?" Sehun asked 

 

"Is he okay?" Suho asked 

 

"Baekhyun's fine and no... I think he's too tired for that... I mean I know he's angry at me but I'm taking him...away tonight- it's okay if Dara stays with someone for a few days...?" 

 

"She can stay with me" Suho said enthusiastically

 

"Where are you taking him?" 

 

"I'm taking him to Mokpo" 

 

"What's... In mokpo?" Tao asked dubiously- Mokpo was such a 'romantic' place after all... 

 

"Donghae's dad" Chen said trying to stop himself laughing until Minseok glared at him to shut up 

 

"That wasn't funny Jongdae" 

 

"I know I know I'm sorry... But it's true!" 

 

"Nothing really... It's small, near the ocean... It's just the right place for me to do this... Suho I need you to come with me" Chanyeol noticed the was Lay's face fell ever so slightly at the thought of Suho leaving- he grinned internally with his inner fanboy 

 

"Sure where are we going?" 

 

"It's a secret" Chanyeol grinned and internally fanboyed at Yixing's face falling even more deciding to take action "Yixing- you can come too if you like" 

 

"O-okay yeah sure" Yixing jumped up and scooted towards Suho, Chanyeol could see Luhan fanboying like mad 

 

"And away we go!"

They had picked Dara up and were now in a massive jewellery store 

 

"What're we doing here?" 

 

"Okay... Well while I was away I had this massive epiphany and like well I decided it was time and you guys know I'm against tradition but this one I don't mind" 

 

"You're proposing to him?!?!" Suho squealed round hugging Lay in excitement 

 

"Well yeah I guess I am! I want to make it memorable though like how Luhan proposed through cupcakes at midnight or Jongdae who proposed at a wedding... At was it your wedding Yixing? Or was it Luhan's... I don't even remember" 

 

"Baekhyun likes ice cream... Well he did the first few nights after you left... Then he didn't... He might now though!" Yixing suggested 

 

"I don't know... Foods good, anyway first I need to choose a ring" 

 

"I think the thin bands would look nice on his hand" Suho said picking Dara up and spinning her round a little "What do you think your daddy would like on his hand?" 

 

"Which daddy? Umma daddy? Or daddy daddy?" 

 

"Errrr umma daddy?" 

 

"Me like that one!" Dara pointed to a beautiful ring with diamonds and sapphires, however it was a woman's ring and Chanyeol doubted Baekhyun would appreciate that 

 

"Darling- that's a girls ring" he chuckled "someone's going to buy a beautiful ring like that for you one day" Chanyeol hugged his adoptive daughter tightly 

 

"I hope so! These rings are so pretty" Dara said dreamily 

 

"What type of ring did you get Victoria again?" Suho asked randomly 

 

"Oh... It's not that flash it was just a gold band with-" 

 

"WITH A MASSIVE DIAMOND ON IT HOLY I REMEMBER IT" Chanyeol interrupted 

 

"Sounds flash to me" Suho chuckled a little 

 

"Noooooo" Yixing hid his face in his hand "lets look for Baekhyun's ring" 

 

"Suho has he been eating much lately?" Chanyeol asked as they roamed round the many glass cabinets and cases 

 

Suho and Lay looked at each other warily 

 

"Um... He hasn't been eating at all... I tried so hard I forced him to eat sometimes but nothing worked- not even Kyungsoo's cooking worked" 

 

"He loves eating... He always eats..." Chanyeol said 

 

"Chan... He was in a very bad place..." Yixing said slowly 

 

"Why did I have to leave? Why did this have to happen?" 

 

"Chanyeol- it's not the past that matters okay? It's the future you two have together the years you can make it up to him, it's never going to be the same Chan you have to accept that" 

 

"When did you start giving out advice Yixing? Where have you even been these last few years?" 

 

"I've always been here... I just- I have other commitments as well" 

 

"You mean your wife that Baekhyun hates" 

 

"Well yes my family is very important to me Chanyeol" 

 

"Guys... I think I found Baekhyun's ring!" Suho said excitedly from the other side of the store 

 

"We have to talk to you Yixing all of us... It's been too long" 

 

"What?"
