Chapter 1: Exploring Seoul
Perfect for MeRyeowook’s POV
My last memory of Seoul is from my childhood. I was only seven years old and my mother brought me from America to Seoul to attend a wedding. I was chosen to be the ring bearer along with the flower girl who was the relative of the groom, while I was the cousin of the bride. It was love at first sight for me. That was the first love I ever remember experiencing... Sadly I never got her name.
There were times when I wanted to refind her, but I knew that it was pretty impossible since I had never even learned her name and eighteen years had passed since then. There was no way that I'd be able to refind her...
So anyways, now I'm strolling through Seoul looking for a job, a home, and possibly some food. Gees... Thanks a lot, mom...
As I walked through the city, I noticed a bakery that had a lovely aroma. The smell made my stomach growl, which reminded me of how hungry I was. I suddenly realized that I hadn't had much to eat for the entire day. I stuck my hands into my pockets to dig for some change. Luckily I dug up a few dollars and coins in my pockets. In the military, I'd become so used to being given food right away that I'd almost forgotten how to find my own food.
From outside the bakery, I peered at the breads and pastries that were decorated so fancy and nice. I peered at the big meat buns properly lined up on a tray. Okay, now I knew what I'd have to eat.
I approached the door and noticed that a lady walked up next to me. I opened the door for her to enter. This was the proper thing for a gentleman to do!
"Thank you," she smiled at me and walked into the bakery.
"No problem," I smiled back and walked in after her. I headed to the meat buns at the front of the bakery and I reached for two. If I was going to treat myself to something, I might as well enjoy it! I left the front of the bakery and headed to the back to get myself a drink and search for other things I might want to eat.
After I got my food and drink, I headed to the cashier and set down the breads and drink.
"My, I see that you have quite an appetite, don't you?" The cashier commented as she bagged the bread and drink.
"Yeah..." I faked a smile and took the change back and my food. When I turned around to leave I noticed the same girl who'd entered the store at the same time as me and I smiled at her in courtesy. She smiled back. I continued on my way.
When I exited the bakery, I found a seat and dug into my lunch. Bread had never tasted so good before...
After I finished my lunch, I continued on my journey: looking for a job.
<3
I've been looking out for "hiring" signs but I see nothing. I mean, what am I even good at doing? Being wealthy in America wouldn't be of much help here... In starting a new life in Korea. Cuz who knew when I'd return to America? Back in America I'd enjoyed studying humans and relationships between them. But how would that help here?!
"You look a bit lost... Do you need help?" I felt someone tap on me. I turned around to look and saw a man staring back at me.
"Uh, yeah... I haven't been around Korea for a long time... Do you know anywhere that I could possibly get a job?" I asked eagerly. Maybe he could help me?
"You need a job? Sure! Come with me!" He gestured for me to follow me and we headed across the street.
