For heechulsshi

Couple: DongJong

Prompt: Sungjong was wondering why dinosaurs were extinct yet there was one in his dorm. Unfortunately.

Sungjong sat silently in the living room of the dorm which was illuminated by the television, the volume was turned down so that it was a  quiet hum. Thoughts plagued the magnae’s mind as he stared blankly at the re-run of some drama as he wished for sleep to consume him. Sunggyu was sprawled out on the couch and if it was not for the light snores that escaped the elder the magnae wouldn't have known if the man was awake or asleep.  Well, that is aside from the fact that the elder’s nagging words were not reverberating through the relatively silent dorm. If the elder had been awake Sungjong might have been asleep by now, the eldest would have had an idea on how to cease the magnae’s insistent thoughts.

The magnae’s eyes narrowed as light flooded into the room, blinding him as his eyes slowly attempted to adjust to the brightness.

“Sung Jong-ah, you’re still up?” stated – more so than questioned – the subject of Sungjong’s suffocating and irritating thoughts.

“Neh, hyung,” muttered Sungjong, squinting as he glanced towards the older male.

“Is there something wrong, Magnaenim?”

“No, hyung.”

“Are you sure?”

“I’m absolutely positive,” deadpanned Sungjong.

Dongwoo peered at the younger before turning his attention towards the television in interest, “So, what are you watching?”

Sungjong shrugged, mumbling out, “Your guess is as good as mine.”

“You’re not paying attention to it?”

The magnae shook his head, “It was some show that Sunggyu prior to passing out…I've attempted to get into it, but it’s difficult with Sunggyu-hyung snoring right in my ear.”

“You could move, you know,” stated Dongwoo.

Sungjong shook his head, “Too tired.”

“Then go to bed then,” stated Dongwoo, peering at the younger as if he had grown a second head.

Sungjong shook his head again, “I’m not that tired.”

“Well, I am,” stated Dongwoo, smiling goofily towards the youngest, “Night, Sungjong-ah.”

“Night, Dongwoo-hyung,” responded Sungjong, sighing in relief as the elder finally left him alone and in silence, permitting him to return to his plaguing thoughts for hours more. Eventually, his mind did succumb to his body’s exhaustion and with slumber came odd dreams filled with various different types of dinosaurs with Dongwoo’s head on their shoulders – if they even had shoulders.

The following morning, Sungjong was awoken by the echo of shrill laughter through the halls of the dorm. Sungjong groaned as he sat up, messaging the stiff neck that had developed over the night due to his odd sleeping position. out in pain as he gently caressed the aching muscles of his neck; he rolled his shoulders and stretched out his arms – wincing as his joints popped painfully. His whole body seemed to have been affected by not only his lousy sleeping position, but also his odd dream – or was it a nightmare? The youngest Infinite member casted his gaze around the room, attempting to gather his wits as his gaze moved to stare at the slightly stained material beneath him – finally processing that he was on the couch now, rather than the floor he remembered falling asleep on.

“You alright there, Sungjong?” questioned Sunggyu, causing the still hazy-minded magnae to jump.

Sungjong wiped the remaining sleep from his eyes, “What did you put in the tea last night, hyung?”

“I didn't put anything into it,” stated Sunggyu, ‘Why did it taste weird? I swear…that Nam Woohyun…I’m going to skin him for his stupid pranks recently.”

Sungjong reached out for the elder, who was prepared to march back into the kitchen to scold Namgrease, “Hyung, no. It didn’t taste weird; it tasted abnormally delicious last night. It’s just that I had a really odd dream last night…”

“Odd dream?” stated Sunggyu, relaxing a bit, “What was it about?”

“Ah…don’t worry about it,” stated Sungjong, feeling nerves bubbling up in his stomach suddenly, “However, hyung; I have a question I need to ask you about.”

“What is that question?” questioned Sunggyu, flinching as the sound of glass shattering and laughter filled the abnormal silence that laid over the dorm, “Can that question wait?”

Sungjong nodded.

“Then I will listen to it later,” stated Sunggyu before storming towards the kitchen, “Nam Woohyun! Lee Sungyeol! Remove yourselves from my kitchen before I remove you both forcefully. I meant it when I told you both to get your butts out of my kitchen!”

Sungjong flinched at the oldest’s words and the tone of voice used.

As Sunggyu finally entered the kitchen, Myungsoo quickly exited - being sure to stay away from the rumbling storm. The second youngest walked calmly into the room, turning towards the magnae who looked like he was distressed about something.

“Something wrong?” questioned L, “What’s on your mind?”

“How do you think dinosaurs went extinct hyung?” questioned Sungjong hesitantly, avoiding eye contact with the elder.

“Does this really have anything to do with what’s on your mind?”

“It really does,” stated Sungjong shyly, “Really, it does.”

Myungsoo smirked, trying hard to hold back the laughter that was threatening to slip from between his lips, “And people say that I’m the 4D one…the weird one.”

Sungjong looked at Myungsoo, an un-amused expression on his face, “This is a serious question, hyung. This has something to do with the thoughts I’m losing precious beauty sleep over. T-there is also another question…”

“Alright,” stated Myungsoo, looking towards the ground in an attempt to hide his mocking smile, “Ask away, Sungjong-ah.”

“I’ll just get to the point,” stated Sungjong, hesitating yet again before blurting out, “You know how dinosaurs are extinct?” Myungsoo nodded, trying hard not to smile at the younger’s intriguing words, “If they’re all extinct, why is there one living in our dorms?”

Myungsoo could no longer contain it and doubled over as he started to laugh, causing a glare to appear on the youngest.

“Stop laughing, it’s not funny! It’s a serious question!” cried out Sungjong, hiding his face as a pink dust sprinkled over his cheek bones.

“What’s going on in here?” questioned Woohyun, following a bounding Sungyeol over to the duo, frowning over the fact that Sunggyu had kicked him out of the kitchen when it was Sungyeol who had broken the dish.

“Why aren't we included in the joke?” pouted Sungyeol, earning an eye roll from the magnae.

“Tell them,” muttered Myungsoo, gasping out – taking in much needed air after his laughing bout – and wiping tears from his eyes.

Sungjong shook his head, standing up and moving towards the kitchen to pursue the eldest who he knew would help him – despite how hilarious the questions he was asking sounded. He moved towards the kitchen with long strides as Woohyun and Sungyeol’s laughter joined Myungsoo as the second youngest spilled the ‘joke’. The magnae really hoped that the oldest was alone now; however, luck was not on his side.

Upon entering the room, he saw Sunggyu ranting to Hoya as he swept up the shards of the shattered glass while Dongwoo stood hunched over the sink, running a couple of bloody fingers under the cold water. Under Sunggyu’s orders upon seeing the magnae in the door, Dongwoo was dragged out of the room by Hoya – their destination being the bathroom, their objective was to treat the gash on the dino’s fingers.  Upon finally being alone with the leader, the youngest took the opportunity to talk to the elder male.

“Hyung, may I ask you now?”

Sunggyu nodded.

“Promise me that you won’t laugh…”

“Why would I laugh?”

Sungjong glared at him, “Just promise me that you won’t laugh.”

Sunggyu nodded, intrigued by the magnae’s words, curious about what the youngest was going to ask him and why it was ‘so important’ to the younger male.

“What do you think made the Dinosaurs go extinct?” questioned Sungjong.

Sunggyu blinked in shock, successfully hiding a smile behind a gentle but serious expression, “Well, there are countless different theories as to why they went extinct. Some say that they died out after an asteroid collided with Earth, others say that an unexpected ice age fell over the unsuspecting creatures, and there are some even claiming that various volcanic eruptions or diseases led them to their demise.” Sunggyu swallowed back laughter, “Can I ask you a question now?”

Sungjong nodded.

“What does this have to do with what is troubling you?”

Sungjong tried hard to swallow down the lump that was growing in his throat, afraid of being ridiculed like he had been previously by the second youngest – also afraid of the fact he was running out of time before the dino returned.

“Do you think there is a possibility one – unfortunately escaped – managed to live?” questioned Sungjong seriously, looking into the leader’s eyes.

The leader lost some grip over his emotions as he saw the magnae’s serious expression, however, he choked out, “Maybe some did survive, but wouldn’t they be fortunate?”

Sungjong shook his head, “It would be unfortunate because he lives in our dorms.”

Sudden realization dawned over Sunggyu and the leader burst into laughter just as Myungsoo had, he stifled his laughter behind a faked cough upon seeing the youngest’s threatening glare. However, as he lost total control he sputtered out, “How about you go ask the sole survivor of his race himself?”

Sungjong felt his neck and ears heat up as Sunggyu’s eyes traveled to something behind him, motioning towards the door way with a nod of his head. Sungjong felt his heart leaping into his throat upon seeing the highly amused expression that had spread over the oldest’s expression. Upon turning around, his heart seemed to leap even higher into his throat as he saw the dino standing in the door way, smirking uncharacteristically.

“Dongwoo-ah, our precious little magnae has something of high importance to ask you,” stated Sunggyu as he retreated from the room, his amused expression sticking on his face as he did so despite the magnae’s glare.

Dongwoo turned towards Sungjong with an innocent expression, amusement appearing on his own facial features. To Sungjong however, the older’s expression was anything but innocent as it pulled at his heart strings – one of the many things Sungjong found unfortunate about the dino.

“What is the question, Sungjong-ah?” questioned Dongwoo, peering at the youngest with interest shining in his eyes and his lips pulling up to show his perfect white teeth and pink gums.

“N-nothing hyung,” stated Sungjong, looking towards the elder. He hated the fact his whole body felt like it was on fire from either embarrassment or nervousness, possibly even a mixture of both.

Despite the burn that consumed him, Sungjong could feel his cheeks growing ever so hotter as his gaze locked with the older male’s, which lead to the magnae looking elsewhere, away from the elder who stood silently by the door. The elder on the other hand kept his burning gaze on the younger, having an idea of how much it affected the boy.

“Sungjong-ah,” stated Dongwoo, stepping closer and in turn leading the youngest to take another step backwards, “there is no reason for you to be afraid of me…sure I might have survived the asteroid striking Earth as well as the ice age and some natural disasters, but I’m not something to be afraid of. “

Sungjong looked up in shock, having thought that he had been lucky and the elder male hadn’t heard the conversation between Sunggyu and him earlier. However, yet again, luck proved to not be on his side. He froze upon realizing their close proximity and hastily stepped backwards once more.

“Sungjong-ah, dinosaurs are fallen angels,” stated Dongwoo, stepping ever so closer – smiling as the younger became trapped between him and the counter top, he swiftly moved and made sure the younger couldn’t escape.

Sungjong upon realizing he was trapped allowed his defense mechanisms to kick in, “That sounds like something a delirious and insane science teacher would say.”

“It’s what one of my teachers had said,” stated Dongwoo, smiling in amusement upon pressing even closer to the magnae.

“I figured,” muttered Sungjong, “There was no way you could come up with something so witty, Dino.”

“Are you insulting my deceased people who aren't even alive to defend themselves?” muttered Dongwoo, pretending to be offended by the youngest’s words, only to be slapped lightly on the shoulder by the extremely embarrassed magnae.

Dongwoo moved in even closer to Sungjong,  mere centimeters remained between their faces, causing the magnae to become distracted by the fact he could feel the heat of the older male’s breath graze over his cheeks. Dongwoo, upon finally making eye contact with the younger, lifted one of his hands and cupped the younger’s face while his other hand rested on the counter top beside the younger’s waist.

“My people wouldn't like you too much,” muttered Dongwoo, “especially with you insulting them like that.”

Sungjong looked at Dongwoo’s eyes, slowly letting his gaze travel away from his eyes and down towards his lips, watching in shock as the elder leaned in ever so closer, causing Sungjong to slowly let his eyes drift shut. The youngest basked in the warm of the elder’s body pressed against his own, silently cursing himself for closing his eyes and acting like some high school girl who was about to receive her first kiss from her crush. After all, it wouldn't be his first kiss…okay, so maybe it would.

His nerves prevented him from opening his eyes to see what the elder was doing. However after seconds passed and no contact was made, Sungjong opened his eyes to see and feel Dongwoo pulling away with a small satisfied smirk playing on his lips. The elder glanced at the cup he had grabbed from the counter behind Sungjong, raising it as he smiled towards the younger.

“I forgot my drink,” stated Dongwoo, turning around as if he was going to leave, only to turn back around in a matter of seconds – adoration shining in his eyes as he looked into the magnae’s eyes once more before leaning forward and pressing his lips chastely against the youngest’s.

The younger male stared at Dongwoo in shock, not exactly knowing how to react to the older’s short peck, however, his nerves and diva side handled it, “I thought you just wanted to get your drink?”

“I did,” responded Dongwoo, smirking as he looked at the younger, “but, I’m hungry as well – Dinosaurs need to eat too – and you were just too tempting. The catch is always better after teasing your victim.”

Sungjong frowned and pushed the elder away angrily, causing laughter to erupt not only from the second oldest, but from the five other males who had been peeking in and eavesdropping from the doorway – not caring too much about their hiding spots being blown since Dongwoo was the subject of Sungjong’s anger.

All Sungjong had wanted was to know was why dinosaurs were extinct but yet there was living with him. Unfortunately his curiosity had led to him being the of the jokes for months. Fortunately, he discovered he liked dinosaurs more than he had previously thought.

StarlightSpirit: The asteroid attack caused earth to go into a cool stage, but volcanic basalt floods were also a reason for dinosaurs going extict. I'm totally nerding because that's what I'm studying at university, FYI. VOLCANOLOGIST NERD SKILLS UNITE! xD  This is so adorable! Innocent, shy Sungjong is something that you don't see often but it still worked here! :) Great work, my dear <3
