"Ah!" A woman laying on the bed screamed in pain as another contraction hit in a wave. Tears slipped out of her tightly closed eyes as the pain was almost unbearable. Suddenly, there was a baby's cry that filled the silence.

"Congrats, Capt'n!" A male pirate quickly picked the new born up and covered the child up in a tattered blanket he found on the bed. "It's a boy!"

There were hoots and hollars that filled the air as the pirate captain held his child for the first time. There was a small smile that played on his sun kissed face as a small glint of light passed his eyes as he was happy to see his heir to the ship they were on. The captain sighed happily and looked up, the smile leaving his face immediately.

"Have her rest. I be having a word with the maiden when she wakes up." The captain ordered as he took the new born out of the room with him. With each step he took, the ship creaked and groaned under his weight until he was outside. The sun was bright and caused the baby to start crying all over again.

The captain looked down and frowned. "Yah, be quiet." The captain ordered but the baby did not stop. Irritated, the captain handed the baby to the male next to him. "Make sure he be quiet. The girl is sleeping and I want my child to know the way of here as soon as possible."

"Aye." The male nodded and held the baby awkwardly. "Capt'n, what be the name of this here creature?"

"Sungyeol, that creature be my heir and your future Capt'n when I die." The captain said with edge, his blood shot eyes glaring at the tall man next to him. "His name be Sungjong. Treat him well when I die."

"....." Sungyeol gulped and looked down at the now sleeping baby. "... Aye..." He mumbled.

Later that night, the captain ventured to the room where Sungjong was born in and walked right into the room with out so much as a knock. "Good, you're up." The captain closed the door a little too harsh, startling the baby to cry.

"Shhhh... Baby, it's ok." The woman on the bed cooed, rocking the new born back and forth to silence the child, and it worked. Soon, Sungjong was sleeping once again and the pirate just stared. A few seconds of awkward silence and the mother looked up at the man that was the father, "What be the name of our child?" She asked, eyes boring right into the man.

"Sungjong." The captain replied, walking with heavy steps to the chair next to the bed. "And you are to be gone in a month."

The woman on the bed froze from rocking Sungjong and her head snapped up to the captain with anger. "Then Sungjong comes with me." She challenged. "This be no place for my baby. This be no place for me! Sungjong needs to be around his age group, not you old thieves with twisted thoughts and emotions!" The woman yelled suddenly, holding the baby close.

"No, the babe stays with me and me alone. After one month, you be gone- whether you choose to walk off the plank or die by gun point is your decision- but the boy stays."

The woman's eyes widened, "No! That was NOT part of the deal!"

"I will get some little creatures to appease you so Sungjong not be alone in this ship, but you will be gone. That's final. Good night, woman."

With that, the captain walked out of the room and slammed the door shut. He could hear the small cries of both the baby and the woman, but he didn't care. He was a pirate after all.

As he waked up the stairs to be outside, he was greeted by the moon light and Sungyeol. "Sungyeol, I need you to go to town tomorrow with Yongguk and Woohyun to capture two more babes and any treasure you find. I need two more men to grow up on this ship to keep Sungjong company. Sungjong also be needing some crew his age later to keep the ship stable. My crew be getting old by the day." The captain said, turning away from the pirate and walked to how own quarters- sleep quickly taking over him.

Sungyeol nodded after the captain left and went to tell the other two most trusted pirates the orders.

Before anyone knew it, a month had passed and the three babies on the ship soon learned to be quiet at all times. Sungyeol, Yongguk and Woohyun were holding the three youngest pirates in their arms while the captain had the mother tied up and on the plank.

"You're cruel!" She cried, hatred in her eyes as she looked between her child and the two babies she grew to love and the pirate that kidnapped her a year ago to keep his blood line going.

"Aye, I be a pirate, missy. What did you expect?" The captain laughed before lifting his gun. "Any last words, lass?"

"I hate you, Kim Sunggyu." The woman said, before jumping off of the side of the ship, the large splash of water sounding in the silent air.

Sungjong started to cry instantly when he saw his mother disappear, and felt Woohyun hold him close to try and calm the baby down.

 --Present--

"Get yer asses moving! If I catch you drifting off again, I be throwing ye over board!" Sungjong yelled, his pistol hanging loosely in his hand as he was glaring at the crew. His eyes roamed over the older men in their mid to late 40's and rolled his eyes. "Father!" Sungjong walked up the stairs and to the captain. "Where be the two young pirates that should be helping?" He asked, his hands going to his sword, "I'm ready to decapate them." He said, making his father laugh.

"Myungsoo and Hoya should be doing what you told them to be doing right now. You know, scrubbing the toilets." The captain laughed.

"..." Sungjong stayed quiet as he turned away from the captain and to the sky above them. "Good." With that, Sungjong walked away and stomped around the deck, harshly criticizing the crew for their work.

"My boy be crueler than I." Captain Sunggyu smirked as he watched his son walk around the ship. "He soon be a great captain." Sunggyu smiled before turning away. His eyes caught glimps of something off to his right and saw Myungsoo and Hoya walk out from the door off to the side. After knowing the two youngers all their lives, he knew that by the looks on their faces that they were complaining about his son.

"I hate the heir. He be an ." Hoya mumbled, wiping sweat off of his face before looking up at the sky.

"Be careful with what be coming out if your mouth, Hoya. Sungjong has ears of a hawk." Myungsoo hit Hoya on the arm before turning back to the mop and bucket in his hands. "Let's just finish and when we land in port tonight we can celebrate."

"Or run away." Hoya muttered, getting another hit from his best friend.

"Shut up, will you?! He'll hear you!"

"Who will hear you?" Sungjong suddenly appeared in the picture behind the two, startling them. "Get back to work, larva." Sungjong sneered at them before turning away and walked back up to his father. "They annoy me."

Sunggyu laughed and shook his head. "They always seem to annoy ye." He sai to his son before turning his attention to the crew. "Prepare docking! Tonight we raid!"

There was a collective cheer around and the work was enhanced.

Sungjong scoffed at the men and turned his attention to the two boys his age. His eyes stayed on Myungsoo's back, before looking down. A small smirk landed in his face.

"Don't look now, but the heir is staring at you again." Hoya smirked at his friend, only to get a dirty mop straight to his face. "Yah! What be that for?!"

"You be annoying me. I know he stares at me. He hates us, remember? He even be treating Sungyeol better than us and he despises Sungyeol." Myungsoo said, placing the mop back on the ground and turned to the sea ahead of them.

    "Still. Maybe he likes you."

"Didn't I just explain to you-"

"You know what I mean, don't play dumb." Hoya glared at his friend before leaving the dock to lay down in his cot. "Wake me up when we get there. I want to get some gold."

"Deh." Myungsoo nodded but didn't watch as his buddy left. He had other things on his mind. Like, an example being: his birthday is in a week. He's turning 19 and he hasn't actually had a proper birthday. The captain gives his better food that day than everyone else and Hoya steals some gold to give him as a gift, but that's about how far it goes. Sure, every pirate celebrates with his with wine or rum and they get drunk, but there's always been one person who always ignored him, even more so on his birthday, and that was indeed the heir. Myungsoo sighed and wished that just once that this birthday would be good.

"Landed and docked, Capt'n!" Woohyun yelled as all the pirates walked off the ship into the unexpected city.

"Get me some gold, fellas!" Captain Sunggyu yelled as all the pirates held their swords and guns high before rushing onto shore. "Sungjong, I want you to keep an eye on the ship and the boys. I feel like this will be my last time on land, I want to enjoy it." Sungjong's father ordered before stepping off ship.

"Aye, captain." Sungjong nodded as his father left and rested his arms on the side of the ship while his head laid on his hands. Sungjong  closed his eyes and took a breath of the fresh air that smelt of pine trees. He felt at peace. His eyes opened and saw a fire set to a house in the distance and knew that the raid had started. He smirked and shook his head. Sometimes he wished he could leave the life of a pirate, but he knew it would be impossible. Especially when he knew how they raided and he was glad he was born in this life instead. Just as he was about to shut his eyes, he heard footsteps coming up the wooden stairs behind him and words being exchanged.

"Myungsoo, what do you want me to get you for your birthday?" Hoya asked, putting his sword in this belt loop before turning to his friend.

"What ever you can get, I don't mind." Myungsoo smiled, knowing what he would get anyway, but the thought that it might be different this year still hung in his mind.

"Ok, I'll see you soon. Good luck with the brat." Hoya said before leaving ship and rushing to the slowly burning town ahead of him.

    "Pretty night, isn't it?"

Sungjong turned around and saw Myungsoo standing behind him with a soft smile in his face. If it weren't dark, Sungjong would have a problem because he was blushing deeply at the moment. With out saying anything, Sungjong left and went into the cabin, leaving Myungsoo alone on the deck.

"Ok then..." Myungsoo sighed and went to the side of the ship Sungjong was previously at and rested his hands on the railing. His eyes caught something that didn't seem right, and it wasn't. All of the pirates were running back to the ship faster than expected with blood on them and gold falling out of their hands.

Myungsoo's eyes were snapping from pirate to pirate as they passed his with haste and as soon as Hoya got on the ship, the pirates were already getting the ship into the water and were starting to set sail.

"Why is there so much blood?!" Myungsoo yelped, rushing over to Hoya and looked at him closely, but didnt see any deep marks.

"The kings army was there." Hoya gasped, wiping sweat and blood off of his head. But then he smiled. "I got your gift!" He smiled with triumph and went to walk around his friend. Just as he was about to go into the cabin, Sungjong came out with a large slam of the door.

When Sungjong's eyes met the bloody pirates, he immediately ran to his father. "Capt'n! Are you ok--" Sungjong's words stopped as soon as a gun shot was heard in the silent air. Everything was in slow motion- with the next second being the captain falling to the ground with a bullet going through his stomach. "F-father...?!" Sungjong looked up and saw a rogue pirate on his ship- one he had never seen before. Soon, the pirate was murdered by the others while Woohyun was trying to pull the heir away from the captain. "FATHER!!" Sungjong yelled, trying to get to the captain but was halled back. "I demand you to let me go!"

"Yongguk! Help the captain!" Woohyun yelled as he and Sungyeol pulled Sungjong away.

Myungsoo was watching with wide eyes, still trying to process what just happened. Everything was going too fast for him. The words that rang in the air were words that no one thought they were to hear for a long, long time: "the captain is dead! Sungjong! You be the new captain!"

It was well passed midnight while they were out on the calm waters. The moonlight was displayed on the dark sea while the crew was sleeping, uneasily, but still sleeping.

Sungjong walked out of the cabin and onto the deck with dead eyes guiding him to the front of the ship. He had a bottle of alcohol in his hands while he took another swig of it before he threw it over board. His eyes looked up to the crows nest and saw Hoya sleeping on the job. Sungjong was going to give his a yelling in the morning, but decided against it when he figured out that he much prefers this- him being alone for a little while.

Sungjong made his way over to the from and looked over the side of the ship into the dark sea. It some how calmed him from the roaring emotions storming in his head, his heart. Suddenly, he felt tears build in his eyes and he started to cry. "... I don't want to be captain..." He cried softly, shaking his head to see if this was all a dream, but he knew it wasn't.

Myungsoo tossed and turned in his cot, as he couldn't sleep. He kept worrying about the heir-- captain. Sure, they weren't on good terms- but he knew how close the captain and his son were. They were as close, if not closer, than him and Hoya and Myungsoo didn't want to think about what he would do if it were Hoya that died tonight.

Sighing, Myungsoo got out of his cot quietly and and walked up to the dock to clear his head. When he made it up the noisy stares, Myungsoo almost jumped out of his skin when he saw Sungjong standing too close to the edge of the ship, head hung low over the rail as silent tears fell from his doe like eyes. Myungsoo was frozen, he had never seen the harsh hei- captain cry. He didn't even know the boy could produce such tears to do so! Something snapped in Myungsoo and he walked over to the new captain. "Capt'n?"

Sungjong jumped and quickly took out his sword, grabbing Myungsoo by the shoulder and twisted him around to where Myungsoo's back was pressed against his chest while his sword was pressed against Myungsoo's neck.

Myungsoo's eyes went wide with fear and he stood still.

"What do you want?" Sungjong asked, voice deep and breath smelling like alcohol.

Myungsoo made a face at it and turned away. "I can't sleep sir."

"So, you decide to sneak up on me then?" Sungjong seethed, pressing the sword closer to Myungsoo's neck, almost cutting him. Before Myungsoo could reply, Sungjong started to cry and dropped the sword with a loud clank on the ground. Little did he know that it work Hoya up and the teen was staring at the two on the deck.

"Why did he have to go?" Sungjong cried, suddenly hugging onto Myungsoo tightly.

"Everyone has to go at some point.." Myungsoo mumbled, not knowing what to do. His heart was thumping harshly against his chest as his captain was pressing himself again him.

"But he left too early! I'm too young to be a captain!" Sungjong cried, his head pressed against the back of Myungsoo's shoulder. "It's not fair!" He cried, shaking.

Myungsoo didn't know what to do and let the new captain cry into his back, soaking his torn shirt- but he didnt care. After some minutes, Sungjong calmed down enough to where only a few silent tears escaped his eyes but his arms were still wrapped around Myungsoo's upper body. "I'm sorry.. You must think I'm weak... Some captain I am, huh?" Sungjong tried to laugh off, but just ended up choking on his words.

Myungsoo didn't say anything and felt the captain release his hold on his as he went to walk away and back to his cabin with out a word. When he heard the door close, Myungsoo let out a breath he didn't know he was holding and tried to slow down his fastly beating heart. When did things get so bad for him that he almost passed out from just a small hug from the captian he liked?

With out realizing it, a week had passed and it was Myungsoo's birthday. He didn't know how he felt about it. Everyone was still grieving over the lost captain, but they couldn't let it dwell in their work. Throughout the week, Sungjong became even more harsh than he was before the passed captain passed away. The only ones that were treated normally were the three favourite friends that Sungjong's father had, and the ones that had it even worse than before were Hoya and Myungsoo- which boggled Myungsoo's mind because of how the captain acted towards him last week.

It was 2pm and Myungsoo was taking a break with Hoya and were eating a small snack. Everyone knew that they needed to dock soon to get food so they tried to make it last, they were just waiting for the words from the captain.

"Happy birthday, Myungsoo." Hoya suddenly said, handing over a crappy wrapped gift to his friend.

A small smile found its way to Myungsoo's face as he slowly grabbed the gift and opened it. His smile grew when he saw that it was indeed not gold like it had been for the passed years, but a new pistol. So new, that it even had a small shine to it in the dim barracks. His breath caught in his throat. "Thank you, Hoya." Myungsoo hugged his best friend and went back to looking at his new possession. It really was a beautiful piece of machinery.

"You're welcome! Just, you be careful and not be lettin' these pirates steal it- 'kay?"

"M'kay!" Myungsoo was happy, and kept playing with his new gun.

The was a cough and both boys looked up to see Sungjong standing there with a slight glare in his eyes. "Why aren't you working?"

"I was giving Myungsoo his gift. It's his birthday." Hoya said, eyes not leaving the captain as he got up. "But we'll be working now." Hoya said as he grabbed Myungsoo's hand and pulled him with him to the deck.

"As you should. Remember, we're docking tonight for food and supplies. Be ready." Sungjong said as he walked further into the barracks to tell the others that were also resting from the heat outside.

"Be back by sun rise. You're free for the night. If you don't come back, you will die by my own hands." Sungjong said to his crew as he watched them all leave happily into town while he stayed on the ship. His large eyes scanned everyone and saw that Hoya and Myungsoo weren't with them. He turned around and saw Sungyeol chatting with the two before he handed a small amount of gold to Myungsoo with the words of 'happy birthday' playing off of his lips before Sungyeol, too, left the ship.

Sungjong's eyes never left the two left on the ship. They walked over to where the captain was and as Hoya walked passed him, Sungjong stopped Myungsoo with a hand on the boy's chest. "You're to stay on the ship. Hoya, leave." Sungjong ordered, eyes looking passed Myungsoo as he heard Hoya walk off the ship.

There was an awkward silence between the two, causing Myungsoo to shift feet.

Sungjong's hand let go of Myungsoo's shirt on his chest and he turned to the pirate, eyes locked on him. "Follow me." He ordered, walking away from Myungsoo and into the captains cabin.

Gulping, Myungsoo followed the captain and gaped when he saw what was in the cabin. His eyes were wide with surprise and he walked further into the room.

"Happy birthday, Myungsoo." Sungjong smiled softly carrying a small cake in his hands as he walked to the pirate. He felt sort of awkward when Myungsoo didn't say anything but just stared dumbly at the cake in his hands. "What?"

"Where did you get this?" Myungsoo asked, his eyes going up to the captain's.

"I had Woohyun make it. You'd be surprised what everyone does when you're not around Hoya all the time." Sungjong said, coming off as a slight bitter with out realizing it. Myungsoo looked taken back, but quickly dropped it. Sungjong noticed and put the cake down. "Sorry.."

"For what?" Asked Myungsoo, his eyes following Sungjong's hands.

"For everything... I just.. I have something to confess." Sungjong swallowed slowly and then grabbed Myungsoo's hands. "I, um, I like you... Not just as a pirate, or a crew member. Not even a friend- seeing as we never really were.." Sungjong trailed off. "I'm sorry, you probably think I'm--"

    "I knew it."

What Myungsoo said shocked Sungjong. "What? How?"

"When you hugged me last week like that.. And how you always stared at me." Myungsoo said, smiling softly. He let go of Sungjong's hands and went to reach for the cake. "You know, this is the first time you're celebrating my birthday with me. Usually it was just Hoya and few other crew members, but it's just you this year." Myungsoo got a glob of icing on his finger and put it in his mouth. He smiled and looked at Sungjong. "Thank you." He said, causing Sungjong to blush and look down.

Sungjong suddenly looked up and pulled Myungsoo in for a kiss. "You have no idea how long I've wanted to do this."

    "Why haven't you then?"

"I wanted to wait for your birthday where we could celebrate alone." Sungjong smiled and pulled Myungsoo infor another kiss and further into the bedroom.
