I didn’t say anything for 1 minute.

Dong Wook is looking at me, waiting for an answer.

I don’t know how to tell this to him but the truth is, I don’t like him.

No, I like him, but only as a really good friend, an oppa.

The atmosphere is a bit awkward now, but luckily Dong Wook then just smiled and said, “Gwaenchana, I can wait.” He softly my head saying “why do you look so surprised like that? Gwaenchana, It’s not like I’m gonna eat you.”

I laughed. “Gomawo, oppa.”

Dong Wook, is still a very good figure oppa for me, who always gets everyone in a happy mood, and made everyone comfortable when they’re with him.

I know a lot of women who like him, but he ignored them all. Initially I wondered why he did that, but then I understood. Dong Wook oppa likes me.

Aish, oppa, why are you being like this?

I feel so guilty….

Guess what day is today? It’s eomma’s birthday!

I woke up early to prepare 9 side dish meals. Koreans usually cook that for someone’s birthday. Yoon Hee also doesn’t go to work today; I gave her permission so that she could help me in the kitchen.

We both work in silent.

I was preparing the 5th dish, seaweed soup when the bell rang.

“Who could be coming at this time?” I said, looking at the clock. It’s still 6:40AM.

“Oh, I’m going to open door.” Yoon Hee said, washing her hands and walked swiftly towards the door.

“Ne.” I replied as I start to boil the seaweed soup. In Korea, seaweed soup is the most important thing on birthdays. We should eat seaweed soup on our birthday because Koreans….

“Ah~~~ smells so good~” the fish's voice went.

I turned my head towards the door. “Lee Donghae, why are you here? This early?”

“Waeyo?” Donghae took off his cap, black glasses, mask and put in on the table in the living room.

“It’s ahjummeoni birthday today and I want to celebrate too!” said Donghae, walking towards me in the kitchen. “Hmmmm~ smells so goooood~” He sniffed.

“YA! Go awayyyy~” I nudged him hard with my elbow. “Stop sniffing! how could a fish sniffs?”

“Ouch! It huuuurts. Ouch.” Donghae whined.

“Sssh! Reduce your voice. Ahjummeoni will wake up later.” Yoon Hee said as she continues to saute mopo tofu.

“Tsk. Blame it on your boyfie.” I replied as I start putting ingredients of pumpkin pancakes.

Donghae pouted.

Yoon Hee has finished sauteing mopo tofu and she puts it in a medium-sized bowl.

“Let me tryyy!” Donghae suddenly exclaimed.

I give him a you-don’t-help-anything-here-but-you-still-want-to-eat look.

“Mwo? There should be someone who tries the food, right?” He gives us an innocent look.

“Here.” Yoon Hee spooned a small piece of tofu and feeds Donghae.

“Hmm~ so nice.” Donghae nodded.

“Min Jung-ah, has your pancake ready yet?” Finished chewing the tofu, Donghae turned towards the pumpkin pancake I made.

“not yet…. Almost.” I replied.

“The seaweed soup is ready. Oppa, please turn off the stove.” Yoon hee said.

I roll my eyes. They call each other by their name before they are in a relationship and the fact that she is now calling him oppa makes me feel a bit...ugh...

“How many dishes are left?” Donghae asked.

“Two.” I answered. “Samgyupsal and mackerel.” Yoon Hee continued.

Eomma woke up at 7:30, right when everything’s done.

We sing a happy birthday song, have breakfast together and talk about things. Eomma said she remember how Donghae used to be very playful; he likes to press neighbours’ bells and ran away after that.

We all laughed and had a really good time.

Sometimes I wish that day like this can stay forever.

But it can’t, cause some things are really beyond our control, and we can’t just control the world as we please.

Ballet practice.

Leeteuk oppa enlisted last October 30th. Me and Yoon Hee went there too, but we disguise ourselves among the fans to prevent the news & gossips.

I see how all the members & ELF cried.... Especially Kyuhyun-ssi. He looks really sad... Ah, Leeteuk oppa surely is a good leader.

“Min Jungie~!” Dong Wook tapped my shoulder.

“Oh, oppa.”

“Your phone is ringing. You don't wanna answer it?” He said.

“Oh.” I look at my phone's screen. Sungmin oppa.

“Yeoboseyo?”

“Yeoboseyo~ Min Jung-yah, it's Sungmin~”

“Ne~ oppa, what makes you so happy?” I asked, noticing the happy tone from his voice.

“You know MAMA right? The annual Mnet Awards?”

“Ne. Waeyo?”

“Super Junior will be going to Hongkong tomorrow for MAMA. Do you want to go too?”

“Eh?”

“Just come~ ne? This is one of the most awards ceremony in a year, and this is important to me too~” Sungmin oppa starts to whine.

“Eh? I have a schedule to do, oppa.” I answered, thinking of my practice for the ballet concert.

“Aigo. What schedule?”

“A really important schedule.”

“Aigo. Yesterday Sungjin told me that he and his girlfriend can't come too. Are you guys conspiring?” Sungmin oppa continues to whine.

“Aniyo, oppa~”

“Then come......for me. Ne?”

Ah, seems like Sungmin oppa really wants me to go. Eotteohkaeyo? I don't wanna skip the ballet practice too often....

“But if you really can't then it's okay. I don't wanna force you.” said Sungmin oppa. I heard disappoint tone in his voice.

“Ani~~ I'm going.” I said, changing my mind. I want to see Super Junior's live performance anyway, and I also wanna see them winning the awards.

“Jinjjayo?”

“Ne~”

“Gomawo!!! Oh and I'll be paying for the tickets so you don't need to book any ticket tonight.”

“Eh? But oppa....”

“No buts. Manager hyung will be picking you up tomorrow morning, so get ready and see you!”

“Oppa, wai-”

Click. Sungmin oppa hung up.

Aish, jinjja.

“Your... boyfriend?” Dong Wook asked, sounding cautious.

“Ani. Just a really close oppa.” I replied.

“Ah...” He nodded.

“Anyway, please tell seonsaengnim that I won't be coming until November 31st.”

“Oh, okay.”

“Don't miss me.” I said, teasing him.

“I will.” Dong Wook said, winking his left eye.

I smiled bitterly.

Oppa, don't like me that much....

“How? She'll be coming?” asked Kangin hyung from the dining room. “Ne!” Sungmin replied, sounds so happy.

“What? Who'll be coming?” I asked.

“Ah, that one... The girl that Sungmin's eomma introduced to him. What is her name again?”

“Min Jung.” said Sungmin as he helps Ryeowook hyung putting the dishes in the sink.

“Do you really like her, hyung?” Ryeowook hyung asked.

I keep quiet and look at Sungmin, waiting for him to answer.

Sungmin blushed, and for a few seconds later he answered, “Ne.”

Sungmin talks so softly that it's just like whispering, but it sounds so clear in my ears.

I knew that Sungmin likes Min Jung. He told me. But why I still have this strange feeling?
