Night came quick. It was interesting as usual… like every other night (how ironic). Cyndi seated high up on a gold threaded sofa looking like a queen of an exotic nation. Two young girls holding gold plated fans stood a few feet away from either side. Dishes upon dishes of the most delightful foods layed like a painting in front of her. Down below, the entertainment was going on well. Dancers swayed with the music, their hips, arms and legs rocked to the beat. Blue, crimson, orange, yellow, the thin fabrics clung to their bodies. Their bracelets and anklets jingled in unison. More wine was being poured into her glass as she yawned. It wasn’t that she was bored with the excellent performances, the festivities started hours ago and it was time for her to go to bed (or that was what she though).
Cyndi retired to her room. As she entered, the scent of spices filled the air. Everyone downstairs (a few floors down) continued the fun. She didn’t mind at all. They deserved every moment of it after working so hard to bring about the night. Mouse, who had followed her to her room, jumped on to the many colorful pillows of silk and fell instantly asleep, snoring his little doggie songs. Cyndi went into the washroom and readied herself for bed. She looked into the mirror and adored the lavish red silk cascading from her head adorn by a thin gold circlet specked with rubies. The fine, red-dyed muslin felt so good against her skin she didn’t want to take it off. It wasn’t going to hurt if she decided to sleep in her grand outfit to finish off the night as being a Persian Princess (though her seamstresses did make her an adorable night shift).
She crawled in bed careful not to wake Mouse even though he was a heavy sleeper. She closed her eyes and wished for a wonderful dream. A real dream she got but wonderful? Hmm…. does going out and stealing the most valuable gem in the world count as a wonderful dream?
While Cyndi was out and about with her altered ego, Cyndi was wide awake wondering why he couldn’t open the trapdoor from below. Was he growing weak? Was his yellow diamond far away? No… the yellow diamond must be near for him to wake up early. Counting by the length of his nails, it wasn’t time to rise. He blew on them until they grew short. Cyndi pressed his back against the door again but it refused to budge. Was his secret hiding place discovered? Was he being held captive by a powerful demon? After thirty minutes of struggle, he retreated to a corner in defeat. He wanted to just fall back to sleep again but the humming in his ears told him not too. His yellow diamond was getting nearer. Someone must be traveling with it. Cyndi closed his eyes and focused. It had been a long time since he last drew a connection with the yellow diamond.
Cyndi twirled across the lawn happily as she admired the sparkling treasure she held in the palm of her hand. It was the most beautiful thing she had ever seen. The moon was nothing in comparison.
Come to me.
Cyndi looked around but no one was there. Was she hearing voices?
Come to me, love.
It echoed in her head. Cyndi stopped to check if she was imagining it when it came again from her treasure room. She rushed towards it half wanting to find out and half being forced. Someone is in her treasure room? If that was the case, she had to go rescue her darling sparklies. Cyndi didn’t care for them at all just a few seconds ago but now that they were threatening to disappear on her, they became the most important thing.
They belonged to her… her and her alone.
