"What happened to her next, gramma. What does the captain want to do to her? Did she escape?"
"Oh my sweet child... I don't quite recall what happened after that. You will have to forgive this old lady."
"But gramma, it was getting so good! And you always stop there..."
"Perhaps I will remember tomorrow, love."
"Oh please do, gramma. I love that story so much."
The little girl's gramma tucked her into bed and kissed her temple.
"It is getting late."
"And Uncle Nathan is not home yet?"
"I will wait for him, dear... while you sleep."
"Okay, gramma. I love you."
"I love you too, Cynthia."
Edith left the room and as she closed the door, she thought about her daughter. She must have been as adorable as little Cynthia now.
"Is she asleep?"
Edith turned around to meet a pair of handsome green eyes.
"Yes."
"Did you finish the story?"
"I could not."
"When will you tell her? We don't have much time..."
"She's not ready for that responsibility."
"The Sins are growing stronger ever since..."
"Yes I know..."
"She bought us some time and we should not be wasting it."
"Nathan..."
"I'm sick of being Nathan. I want to be myself again. I want to be with Cynthia!"
"Please... Nathan... Hero... you cannot go yet. She would have wanted you to look after little Cynthia... to lend her your strength."
"Promise me you will tell her the truth about her mother soon then. Tell her..." Dan turned around so that Edith no longer had a view of his face. "She needs to know that it's all real. It's not a bedtime story."
"I understand."
Sykotica Notes: Vertical DFC set w/o images. Found an epilogue of Indigo Silk. I guess it's a throw-away. O, looks like it's my text holder now.
