At First Sight

In-Na and I strolled along the streets of MyeongDong. At times, she will drag me into accessory shops and put hair pins on my hair. Frankly, I’m okay with dresses, but I don’t like accessories. I can’t imagine the ‘cuteness’ of those butterfly and heart shaped pins. In-Na is the opposite of me. She loves everything a girl is supposed to love. She wears dresses, skirts, puts on hair pins, etc. I’m not a tomboy. I don’t mind doing girly stuff, which means I don’t hate it.
“Omona! Let’s go in here!” In-Na dragged me into another shop again. A sales-lady approached me and asked, “What type of skincare product would you like?”
It’s a cosmetic shop.
“It’s okay,” I replied as I tugged on In-Na’s sleeve, “Are you sure you’re willing to spend money on make-up?”
“It’s not entirely make-up, it has lotions and other stuff that’s good for your skin.” She whispered to me. I sighed as I followed her around.
“It’s going to be winter soon, you should buy some moisturizer.” In-Na said, then she applied something on the back of my hand. “Do you like the smell?”
I brought my hand to my nose and sniffed it. It’s cherry blossom. I nodded my head and replied, “It smells nice but I have never used these products in my entire life, I don’t need it.”
“Why not?” She shook my arms, “Treat this as your birthday present.”
“My birthday’s over.” I said.
“Aish, you stubborn child.” She scolded, “I’m getting this for you no matter what.”
“I told you, I don’t need th-”
“THERE’S A FIGHT OUTSIDE!”
“Yeon-ah, pali, kaja.” In-Na pulled me along as I followed behind her quickly. She breathed heavily, “We’re behind the building, you should be safe here. I’ll call the police.”
I nodded and sat down. I could still hear the screams of the people witnessing the fight. What were the police doing? How did they let a fight start in such a crowded shopping area?
“The signal is weak here. I’m going out for a minute. Stay here.” She patted my shoulder and she left. I sighed and played with my fingers. Then I remembered, I had a phone with me. I took it out of my pocket and felt the keys. It wasn’t a smart phone. It was a dummy phone. Just for calling. It had Braille on its keys so I was able to figure out the numbers. I rubbed my finger on the screen before dialing in
