“I hate exams~ Why would such a thing exist?”

A whimper can be heard inside the library, earning sharp gazes from other students who are spending their time revising for the upcoming exam. “Shh, Yujinnie. Others will be mad if you sighed that loud,” a small voice whispered hastily while gently slapped the back of her blonde-haired friend.

“I’m different from you, Wonnie. I’m not that bright and for sure will flunk in this midterm.”

“No, you won’t. You are actually a bright student, Yujinnie. You just loath studying continuously but once you do, you ace it.”

“Tell me one thing that I excel at.”

Pursing her full lips, Wonyoung blinked several times at her blonde-haired friend before breaking into a grin, “Remember when we just started playing volleyball?”

“Oh, back in fourth grade, right? Good ol’ time! I had a hard time with my receives back then.”

Yujin replied with a tinge of melancholia within her eyes, reminiscing their childhood which passed in a blink. Now that both of them already in high school, Wonyoung can certainly say that they both did well in surviving the raging period of being a chuunibyou.

“Now look at you, already playing at the national level. How did you do that again?”

Yujin puffed her chest while grinning at Wonyoung, scratching her napes, and answered, “Duh, through lots of practice. It’s a shame that you choose to stop playing too or else we both will be the most powerful duo in this country!”

Wonyoung can feel her smile faltered but only a split second. She can feel her sweat rolling on her back while checking for Yujin’s reaction and fortunately her friend is busy talking about the volleyball practice and didn’t seem to notice Wonyoung’s expression just now. Plastering her smile, Wonyoung nodded at Yujin while adding, “Yes, through practice. We can say that you excel with your studies in volleyball, aren’t you?”

“B-but, that’s a sport! There’s no exam for that. I didn’t need to sit on my desk and reading books.”

Holding her sigh, Wonyoung took out her pink mechanical pencil and started sketching something in front of Yujin who is confused with her analogy just now. “Look at here, Yujinnie. You say that sport didn’t have any exams, right?” Wonyoung can just smile gingerly at her friend which resembles a golden retriever sitting obediently beside her while listening to the girl with purple hair’s explanation. “Actually, there’s an exam for your beloved volleyball too, whether you believe it or not,” she stared at Yujin’s exasperated face which clearly hearing such fact for the first time in the blonde-haired entire life.

“You practice hard every day, even during the weekend, right?”

“I even sleep with the ball!”

Nodding her head at Yujin’s answer, Wonyoung started showing a simple mind map to visualize her words to Yujin who preferred learning things using her imagination. “True, your practice is like a form of revision for you before any games. What do you do to win a game, Yujinnie?”

“Well, I watch videos of my opponents while working out to perfect several formations and techniques with my teammates.”

“Yes, all of those things are actually a form of learning too, y’know? The game that you played, the competition that you participate are all an exam for you to pass. Now, do you get it?” 

Enlightenment filled Yujin’s face as she finally digested Wonyoung’s explanation. Nodding in satisfaction at her friend who finally seems to have a grasp of her own awesomeness and capabilities, Wonyoung excused herself to find some revision book to refer to while solving some difficult problem in their spot questions.
