Frustrated.

Think About It

Summary: Baekhyun tries to fit different pieces together on the same board.

Chanyeol doesn't feel good. He doesn't know if it's from something he ate or from that ty letter. Whatever it is, he hasn't been in the mood since the little smore thing, and even then, he still staring at the dark ceiling thinking about it.

Everyone had gone to sleep already.

But sleeping is hard to do when he doesn't feel right and the only thing that does feel as if it's the right thing to do is...

Goddamn it.

Turning on his side, Chanyeol tries to fix his position on the couch, but it's too ing uncomfortable and he's too damn tall. It doesn't really help much.

The sound of a door creaking open perks his ears and draws his attention away from his own stupid thoughts for a second. He closes his eyes, pretending to be asleep. If it's one of Baekhyun's friends, then he doesn't want to be bothered by them at all.

As the footsteps near, he can tell someone's walking down the stairs.

Great. Someone's coming down for a glass of water. They're probably going to turn on the lights and be ing annoying about it, too.

"Yeol?"

Chanyeol opens his eyes. Then, he pushes himself up into a sitting position. "Yeah...?"

Baekhyun turns on a nearby lamp, just enough so he can see where he's going. Afterward, he walks over to the couch and sits on the floor next to it. "I can't sleep," he says quietly. "I feel like you're hurt..."

"What?"

"I mean, do you have a stomach ache? Are you getting sick? You weren't very involved during dinner or when we wanted to make snowmen outside." Baekhyun looks down at his hands. "Tell me what's wrong. I don't think I'll be able to sleep if you don't."

"I'm..." Chanyeol doesn't know what to say. "It's— I don't know. Maybe it was something I ate at the ski resort. But it's nothing."

"But Yeol—"

"I said... it's nothing."

Baekhyun frowns at him, upset. "Then can I ask you something?"

Lying back down, Chanyeol shrugs. "Yeah."

"You're not faking this and that to avoid hanging out with my friends, right?" Baekhyun asks. "I understand if you are, but— I mean! You wouldn't do that, because... Um..."

"Just go back upstairs, Baek. Go to sleep." Chanyeol puts as arm over his face as he sighs. "I'm not feeling that great right now."

"You didn't answer my question."

"I'm not faking it. Now, can you please just go back upstairs? I'm really tired."

However, Baekhyun doesn't move from the floor. It makes Chanyeol peek open one eye just to see what the guy's doing...

But it's a mistake.

Baekhyun's trying his best to hide it but the hurt and frustration on his face are too obvious.

"I know you're trying, but it's really hard to keep you and my friends happy at the same time— especially when you don't even make an effort to join us for things, which also hurts my feelings."

"Not making an effort?" Chanyeol turns his head at the brunet. "I'm here, aren't I? I begged Jinah for help--even from your precious Junmyeonnie-- just to be here."

It's really ing hard to stay quiet, but Chanyeol is somehow doing it... He doesn't know how, though...

Baekhyun looks shocked. Putting a hand on Chanyeol's arm, he leans in. "I didn't mean it like that, Yeol!" he quickly says. "I'm happy-- I swear, I'm happy. I promise... but you're... I don't know. You don't talk to Jon or Sam--barely even to the others. It kind of stresses me out because I just want everyone to be happy together, but that's not how this is going!"

Stress.

This whole is giving him stress.

Chanyeol clenches his jaw. He moves his arm away from Baekhyun's touch as he sits back up again, throwing his legs on the floor. "I don't know if you've noticed, runt, but no one here speaks Korean except you and me. Jen? Maybe a little. So tell me how I'm supposed to be best friends with your secret admirer over there when he can't even understand me when I tell him to go himself?"

Walking towards the kitchen, Chanyeol decides that maybe he's the one who needs a glass of water.

Not surprisingly, Baekhyun trails after him. "You don't have to know English to read someone's body language," he points out, "and yours has been telling me that it's not a tummy ache, and it's not something you ate at the resort. But you still don't want to tell me. If you don't want to be here, just say it. I'm sorry I made you come with us, but-- If it's really that bad, we can leave. I don't mind, Yeol. I can tell them that something came up-- maybe you and I can take a cab or something back to, I don't know. The airport? I'll figure out a way to get us a flight or--fudge. Maybe take the train back home. Just say it."

Chanyeol stops as soon as he grips the fridge door open, staring at the near-empty fridge for a few seconds before grabbing the water pitcher. "Fine." He shuts the door and walks over to get an empty glass. "I don't like it here."

Baekhyun stays by the kitchen island. "Is it my friends?"

"It's everything." Pouring the water in, Chanyeol blankly watches the cup filled to its brim. "I don't know. I feel like... coming here was a mistake."

"We're leaving the day after tomorrow. It's just one more day--"

"No." Interrupting, Chanyeol shakes his head. "I meant... Maybe I should've just stayed in Korea. Waited for you to come back over the summer or something. , Baekhyun. I don't know-- I really don't ing know."

Pursing his lips, Baekhyun looks distraught. His eyes are starting to remind Chanyeol of some poor, lost ing puppy or some ...

"But I'm glad you're here," the brunet manages to say in a small voice. "I really missed you. I don't think I could've lasted until the summer if you didn't come to visit me like this... I think about you a lot-- like all the time."

Chanyeol set the pitcher down. "I know."

He ing knows.

Goddamn it.

"Do you still feel the same way?"

Looking up, Chanyeol can see that the runt's shaking. It's not too visible, but he can tell by the way that Baekhyun's fingers are curled into fists that the latter is trying to keep it together...

And it makes him feel guilty.

"Baek..." With his shoulders slanted, Chanyeol takes a step in the brunet's direction. "Come here."

Baekhyun doesn't move. "Well, do you?"

Chanyeol's throat feels try. "I do... I miss you like ing crazy, but this whole thing is just... It's overwhelming. I'm too out of my comfort zone, and I hate it. Alright?"

"But this is my life-- I mean... these are my friends."

"I know."

"Are you overwhelmed by me, too?"

"Babe--"

"I'm trying really, really, really hard to make you feel included, Yeol. You're my boyfriend-- I talk about you all the time to them!" Baekhyun looks down at the floor. "And they've been really nice to you, so I don't understand why you feel overwhelmed. I tried to make it as easy as possible, and it's just... I mean, why can you just fit in? Like a puzzle piece? You're just as much a part of my life as they are right now, so I don't get it--"

Chanyeol doesn't know how, but he finds the words leaving his mouth without giving any of it a second thought. "Well, maybe it's because they're part of your new life here and I'm just part of some ing life you had back in Korea-- and maybe some things just don't belong together after all. Ever thought of that?"

Baekhyun gapes at him, speechless.

Seconds go by but neither one of them breaks the silence... Maybe out of fear.

Even Chanyeol doesn't know.

He mutters something underneath his breath and turns his back, grabbing the glass of water and chugging it down before putting the glass in the sink. Even then, Baekhyun still doesn't say anything.

Finally, after a few minutes, Baekhyun takes in a deep breath and finally raises his eyes. "Let's just talk tomorrow. You're saying things that are hurting my feelings right now, and I think it's because you're tired."

Chanyeol says nothing at first... before deciding to just swallow his stupid, fat pride. it.

"I'm sorry."

Baekhyun stays still for a moment before walking over and wrapping his arms around the giant's waist. He doesn't say much--of anything at all. Instead, he holds on for a while. "This doesn't mean I don't still love you," he says. His voice is muffled by Chanyeol's shirt. "Cause I do... I still do. Even if you're being mean about it."

Glancing up at the ceiling, Chanyeol can't get himself to return the hug. He doesn't know why, but... he just can't. Maybe it's because he feels undeserving of it or guilty over the fact that they're ing arguing again. This time, in person-- over the same they argue about over the phone...

It doesn't matter. In the end, it's all just unnecessary stress, whether it's him trying to coexist with the people in Baekhyun's like or arguing when it's not working.

He has a feeling Baekhyun was waiting for him to hug back... until the latter gives up, eventually (and reluctantly) pulling away.
