Chapter 20 - 4D's Absolute Rule
4D: Book of Friendship3rd Person’s POV
[Sae Young Academy of Arts…September 22, 20XX]
“Alright. We need to talk about something very serious here.”
“If it’s about Lee Siyeon, I’m sure he won’t do another stunt like this again.”
“This is not about Lee Siyeon, this is about our group.”
“What’s wrong with our group?”
“Our group should be like a family. We shouldn’t keep secrets from each other, like how Lei didn’t told us her boyfriend at the first place and how Jeril hides the photos.”
“You saw those?”
“I did. And I don’t want that to happen again. I don’t want you guys to keep things to yourself, I don’t want you to deal with problems alone. That’s why we’re a group.
“I’m sure they didn’t mean it, Ked unnie.”
“We didn’t. And besides, there’s always some secrets that only you needs to knows about.”
“Yeah, even you keep secrets.”
“I don’t. I’m an open book, guys. For pete’s sake, all my information are out in the public social media. I’m an idol, all things about me are known to the world.”
“Yet, you didn’t told us some things. Like how you knew Black Wyrm, or how you’re famous with gangsters or even the fact that you’re great at fighting.”
“I told you, I knew the place because of a friend. I’m famous with gangster because my friend IS a gangster and I’m great at fighting because I’m trained with a little bit of everything. My parents wanted me to be perfect, so I tried.”
There was a crack in Erika’s voice at the last part, but none of them was brave enough to ask why. At that moment, they were all thinking about what Erika had said.
“What do you want us to do about it, leader?”
“Well, I’m assigning another general rule for 4D. An absolute rule that can never be bended nor broken.” Erika stated. “And our absolute rule is…no secrets. Deal?”
Lei handed her hand out and smiled. “Deal.”
Anika and Jeril also did the same. They handed their hands out and piled it up, smiling towards Erika to do the same. She let out a scoff first before putting her hand on top.
“No more secrets?”
“No more secrets.”
They let out a chant before breaking it up, then Erika became serious again. “Now that our rule is applied, why don’t we do something to official commemorate about it? We should share something about us that the others didn’t know yet.”
“Then why don’t you start first, leader?”
“Oh…okay.” Erika cleared before smiling. “I never thought that I would be in a group. I was trained to be a soloist, to be always the one and only. And now that I’m here with you guys, singing and dancing together, it actually felt great.”
“Aww. You’re a great leader, unnie. It’s a pleasure to be with you too.”
“Thanks, Anika. Now, why don’t you go next?”
“I don’t have anything. I’ll think about it, so why don’t Chase go first?”
“Alright. Jeon, you go.”
“Fine. I’m...a gangster.”
“We know that.”
“I’m a lonely gangster.”
“Why are you lonely?”
“Can you give us an on-point explanation, Chase?”
Jeril let out a deep sigh before nodding her head. “I’m lonely because my mother is too busy to care, my father is too strict to care, my other family member is an idiot and I’m alone.”
“You’re not alone.” Anika muttered. “We’re here…with you. Right?”
“Right…” Jeril answered as she forced herself not to smile. “Well, I’m not very close with anyone else, except for my mom. But even she can be annoying sometimes. Yet, you guys are actually really cool to be with. Though, that doesn’t mean that I’ll be an idol now.”
“Oh, come on! We make great music together, we should debut as a group.”
“Nah, still don’t want to be an idol.” Jeril stated. “But if I do someday want to be an idol, I’ll give you guys a call to debut together. Is that okay?”
“No--”
“Yes.” Anika interrupted. “As long as you give it a try. We’ll be together till the end of this school year, so maybe we could change your mind before graduation.”
“That’d be great if you could.”
“Oh, we will. Trust me…” Anika said with passion as she stare intently with Jeril.
“Okay, that’s enough. Let’s proceed to our maknae, President Panda~”
“Well, I don’t really have that much to say.” Lei stated. “I mean, I’m an open book sometimes too. I express things with my expression so, I don’t know what to say.”
“Aren’t you hiding something? Like a thing only you knew?” Anika asked. “Like, how did you got a boyfriend? Or how did you two meet?”
“I’m pretty sure that topic should be in the recycle bin right now.”
“Don’t be harsh on him, Jeril unnie. I understand Timothy. He may have hurt me, but I put myself in his shoes and it was hard, even I could see that.”
“Damn. You’re too good to be in this world, L.” Erika said as she shook her head but was wearing a fond smile. “Why don’t you talk about first impressions instead?”
“Alright. No offense meant, okay?” Lei confirmed and when the other unnies nodded, she continued. “When I first knew Anika unnie, I thought that she was really really mean.”
“WHAT? ME?”
“Yeah. We were 6th grader and we’re on the same group during a project. You and I got into an argument but after that I realized that we actually click and could be bestfriends.”
“We’re not bestfriends.”
“I said that we could be. Maybe not now, but soon…” Lei muttered with a wink.
“Stop winking. You’re looking a lot more like leader nim.”
“What’s wrong with that? I’m gorgeous.”
“Yeah…at first. But the more I see you, the more it gets uglier.”
“EXCUSE ME?! Did you just called me ugly?”
“And that’s my first impression of Jeril unnie.” Lei interrupted, making Erika and Jeril stop. “I always knew that you would be the one who brings out the annoyed side of a person.”
“So, your first impression of her is that she’s a snobby, annoying, LITTLE brat?”
“Oh, yeah? Then, I bet her first impression of you is that you’re egoistical, which you are.”
“Actually…” Lei trailed as she looked away, hiding the small blush in her face. “When I first saw Ked unnie, I was starstruck.”
“YOU DID?”
“Yeah. She was so cool, and pretty, and hot, and gorgeous. And to be honest, she was really a girl crush material so she may had become my girl crush at that time.”
“At that time?”
“Later on, I heard about your egoist self so I stopped.” Jeril was about to tease Erika again when Lei said something first. “Although now, I realized that those rumors weren’t true.”
“IT’S NOT?”
“How?”
“I mean…she is an egostical idol. But she’s not entirely a bad person. She’s not bragging about her skills, she’s just saying she can do it.”
“I’m confused.”
“It’s something like…when someone ask you if you knew how to play volleyball and you answer yes. Ked unnie is just saying what she can do, because we ask about it. I noticed that she doesn’t really brag about things that we didn’t ask her about.”
“Wow…” Erika muttered with an eyesmile. “Thanks, L. You’re really observant about me. I appreciate that, even though you’re probably observant over a lot of things. Still…thanks.”
“No problem, unnie.” Lei answered with a smile. “Now, how about Anika unnie? Did you thought about what to share?”
Anika looked at them like she’s going to drop a bomb… ”I have a boyfriend.” …and she did.
