Xiumin rose thirty minutes earlier than he normally would and quietly made his way down the stairs. In the kitchen he pulled out eggs, spinach, mushrooms, red pepper, onions, broccoli, and cheese. He was going to make a huge breakfast and tell his parents about being the photographer at school. It’s not going to be like before, he reasoned with himself. As he cleaned and chopped the veggies Xiumin thought about the last time he asked his parents about joining a club at school.

~Flashback~

Xiumin was getting dressed for the third day of his freshman year when the ring of his cell phone pulled his attention away from the mirror.

“Na eureureong eureureong eureureong dae”, Xiumin smiled to himself as he answered his phone. “Hey Lu, What’s up?” He asked into the telephone.

“Morning Min, I was thinking about that conversation we were having yesterday” Luhan’s voice filtered through Xiumin’s phone. Which one, Xiumin thinks to himself before Luhan continues. “About us joining the soccer team.” Luhan says.

“Ohh yeah? Did I convince you of your awesomeness” Xiumin says jokingly into his phone as he combs through the shirts in his closet.

“Well I was thinking that it would be a lot of fun, so I want to do it, I want us to do it.” He clarifies.

“That’s great Lu, it’s going to be so much fun, I’ll ask my parents’ permission over breakfast and tell you what they say at school” Xiumin says happily into is phone.

“Great, I can’t wait to see you Min, Bye” Luhan ended the call.

I’m so glad he decided to try out, Xiumin thinks to himself as he grabs a random shirt and pulls it over his head rushing to join his family for breakfast.

“Good morning son” His father says as he comes into the kitchen.

“Glad you could join us” His mother says jokingly.

Xiumin grabs a bowl and pours himself some cereal before joining his family at the table. “Mom, Dad” Xiumin said calling for his parents attention. Looking up to see their eyes on him as well as the eyes of his little sisters he continues “The school is having soccer team tryouts next week.”

“Oh that’s nice” his mother says turning back to her computer.

“Well umm, Luhan is going to try out."

“Good for Luhan” his dad says turning away from the conversation back to some tests he is grading.

“He’ll do great Minnie, Lulu is great at playing soccer” his little sister says innocently while eating her cereal.

“Well, you see, ummm, I want to try out to” Xiumin said pulling the attention of his parents back to him.

“What? Why?” his mother questions. “You have the field at my school to play on after school.” She says.

“Well I really want to play for the team at school, I think it would be really fun” Xiumin says.

“Xiumin, son listen to me” his father says. Xiumin turns to look at his father dreading the tone that he is using, knowing what he is about to say but dreading the outcome. “I don’t think that playing on the soccer team is what is best for you right now, you need to focus on your school work.” His father says.

“I’ll keep my grades up I promise” Xiumin pipes in hoping to sway his father in his favor.

“Also our schedules are very busy we wouldn’t be able to drive you to all the practices and back” his father continues.

“I could walk” Xiumin volunteers, hope slowly fading from him.

“Plus a lot of high school games are played in different cities, you know that your mother and I are not comfortable with you staying overnight anywhere” his father says. “I’m sorry son” Xiumin’s father says placing his hand lightly on top of his arm, which Xiumin swiftly moves away from. “This is not something that you can do, maybe in a couple of years when your older, but not now. It is not something that will work for our family.” His father finishes.

“Why dad?” Xiumin yells as he jumps out of his chair, “Because it’s something I want to do and not something you want me to do?”

“Xiumin!” his mother yells.

“Whatever” Xiumin says leaving the table and his breakfast behind.

He pouts the entire car ride to school dreading what he will tell Luhan. When he pulls up in front of the school he sees Luhan waving to him from the
