Chapter 7

Eyes, the window to the soul

Dara's POV

You've got to be frickin' kidding me! I live directly opposite him already! What do you want from me?! Now I have to see him in my bloody classes too?! That's what... a minimum of 30 damn hours with him a week! Waeeeee! Ommaaa! Did I massacre an entire country in my past life or something?! I'm sure even that wouldn't condone this amount of misfortune!!!

From the outside my face was devoid of emotions, but within, man was I throwing a fit. Little dara's running around in my head in a frenzy. In fact, right this minute one was in the corner banging her head continuously, whilst another was crying a river. I'm pretty sure this is not good for my sanity.

"Excuse me young man, have you stumbled into the wrong class? I think you're in the wrong place. This isn't the place for juveniles." Seonsaengnim said sharply, no traces of humour in his voice, whilst the rest of the class tried to hold in their giggles and chuckles.

*clap clap clap* Well done Seonsaengnim! I think I'm going to like you teaching me for the next three years! You can keep this monkey in check! *throws confetti in celebration*

Jiyong merely yawned rudely, looking at the teacher with no interest. He swung his jacket over his shoulder and strided into the room, "Yeah, yeah Mr Sang" he waved the teacher off, as if he held no power over him.

Realisation dawned on me. Oh no.. oh no no no. What is this sorcery?! This isn't some kind of drama! I gripped my desk tightly as I glared at the jerk. Why must the only seat that is available be next to me?! I seriously feel like screaming right now. If I didn't want to make a bad impression, I would've screamed 10 minutes ago.

The chair beside me scraped against the floor tauntingly, as Kwon plopped himself down unceremoniously on his chair, slouching immediately.

"Kwon Jiyong. Just because I am friends with your father, does not mean I won't punish you for your behaviour and tardiness. When you're within these four walls, you will obey me and abide by my rules. Do you understand?!" Mr Sang growled, glaring heatedly at the juvenile beside me. I couldn't help but let out a little giggle.

Mr Sang's sharp gaze flickered to me. Oh Sh*t. I stopped giggling straight away, my face now blank, in hopes that he would let me off.

"Hmm, Miss Park is it? Do you find this funny? Well, I wonder if you will find it funny, when you find out that you and your seatmate will be writing me a 2000 word assignment on corporate culture. By Wednesday." I stiffened, my cheeks tainted with a bright blush as the whole class turned around to observe the embarassing experience.

KWON FRICKIN' JIYONG! I screamed in my head. The second day since I've seen him and he's already causing me trouble! Now, NOW, I have to bloody work with him on an assignment on the first week of university! I take back what I said earlier, I dislike Mr Sang. Greatly. I begrudgingly nodded.

"Right, now that we've sorted that out, and wasted a good half an hour of my lesson, let's get onto serious business." Mr Sang turned back to his powerpoint and began the lesson.

I was seething with anger in my seat, I shot a glare over at Kwon, only to see him with his head down on the table not paying the slightest attention. Gahd! He will be the death of me! I grudgingly picked up my pen and began taking notes, my mind wondering why I had so much misfortune.

== 1 and a half hours later ==

/Bell Rings/

"Alright guys, I'll see you all tomorrow. There will be no assignments since it's your first week." Mr Sang said as he shut down his laptop. I began to feel some hope that maybe he'd forgotten about the punishm--

"This excludes you Miss Park and Mr Kwon. I want your assignment on my desk Wednesday morning understood?" Before I could reply he packed up and swiftly left the room.

Everyone began filing out of the class for our 2 hour lunch, before our 13:00PM economics class would begin. "Yah Jerkface. This is all your fault you know. So how are we going to do this assignment?", I frustratedly asked as I began to pack away my things. When I heard no reply, I looked to my left to see he wasn't there, I scanned the room and saw him about to leave the room. I quickly threw in the rest of my belongings and ran up to him.

"YAH! KWON! If you think I'm doing this assignment on my own then you're sorely mistaken. This is your fault." Jerk face slowly turned around with a bored expression.

"Do whatever you want, but I'm not doing it. Who cares. It's not like he can do anything to us for not doing it." He said nonchalantly, shrugging before turning around and stalking off.

Ergh! I don't care what he says, but I am not doing this myself! Whatever. I'll just force him to the library after our Economics lesson.

I grabbed my phone and texted CL. "Chae, are you on your lunch break yet?"

"Almost, I'll meet you in the cafeteria." she replied.

Not long after I had arrived CL walked in and plopped herself infront of me.

"You won't believe what has happened to me CL-roo!" I started to complain immediately. "Kwon Jiyong has the same classes as me! What are the chances! Aren't there like, what? 10 different Business Sets? Waaaaaaeeee! I don't understand!" I let my head fall onto the table, as I began to tug at my hair in frustration. "It gets worse! He got me into trouble and now I have to do an assignment with him by Wednesday! 2000 words!!"

"Ssantoki, you can't catch a break can you?" CL chuckled.

"It's not funny CL!"

"Arasso, arrasso. Maybe this is some kind of sign? I mean he's practically being shoved into your face. Maybe this is trying to tell you something? Maybe you guys will fall in love?" CL said with a serious face.

My head shot up to look at her with utmost horror, my hands still grabbing onto my hair. "LEE CHAERIN! DON'T EVER REPEAT THOSE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE WORDS!" I screamed at her.

CL burst into laughter, clutching her stomach. "HAHAHAHAHAHAHA" Her hands slammed down onto the table. "You should've seen your face Dara-ah! Hahahaha! I wish I took a picture of it! I'm only pulling your leg, yeesh. Calm down woman! But seriously, maybe it's time the two of you stopped this childish 'arch nemesis' business. I mean come on, there's no escaping him apparently. You may as well try to be friends."

Friends? I scrunched my face up in digust. Ewwwww. The words Dara, Jiyong and Friends in one sentence didn't seem to fit right. I don't know... Should I try to be friends with him? Could I be friends with him? "I don't know Chae, he was just so horrible as a child, and from what I've seen so far, he's not changed one bit, if anything he's gotten worse."

"Well I think you should try to anyway. Imo and Samchon were always trying to get you guys to be friends. I personally don't get why you have such an aversion to him. Jiyong Oppa isn't that bad." CL said.

"Oh come on! He isn't 'that bad'?! You of all people know how horrible he was to me CL!" I said, upset that she was defending him.

"Look Dara-ah, I'm not going to defend him. Sure he wasn't the nicest to you as a kid, but people do change ya know?" CL tried to reason, "I will never understood why you guys disliked each other so much. You were fine with Jiyong Oppa's friends, and he was fine with yours. You just couldn't get along with each other.

"Well I don't think he's changed at all. That's because Seunghyun and the others weren't like him! They were nice and weren't constantly picking on me!" I complained.

"At the end of the day it's up to you Dara, but you already know you'll be spending alot of time with him, whether you like it or not. You might as well try and be friends to make your life easier." CL advised before getting up to get us some food.

*sigh* I guess she's right. I hate it when she's right. Okay, be the bigger person Dara. After your class today, you will go up to jerkfa- *ahem* Jiyong, and try to make peace with him, for the sake of your mental health and sanity.

== End of Lunch ==

"Dara I'm going out with some of the people in my class tonight okay? I'll see you at home later," CL waved at me before walking in the opposite direction to me. Pfft, what an abandoner! Already making friends, ah well, I have that stupid assignment to do anyway.. Ergh..

I re-entered the classroom and took my seat, surprised to see that Jiyong was already in his seat. Not so surprised to see him with his head on the desk sleeping. I rolled my eyes as I waited patiently for the rest of the class and our other teacher to arrive.

This time, a young woman, maybe in her mid twenties walked in and began to set up. She's awfully young to be a lecturer, I thought.

"Good afternoon class, I'm Mrs Kim and I will be taking your class for Economics for the next three years," she spoked with a soft, but authoritave voice.

This time, class started smoothly, since the nuisance of our class was on time to class this time.

== 2 hours later ==

/Bell rings/

The bell rang signalling the end of the lecture and the day. I packed up my things and turned to see Jiyong still asleep. I contemplated leaving him there, but we had an assignment to do, and I needed to start 'Mission attempt to be friends with the devil spawn'.

Sighing heavily, I brought my forefinger up and cautiously poked him.

No response.

Poke.

No response.

Poke. Poke.

No Response.

Poke. Poke. Poke. Poke. Poke. Poke. Poke. Poke. Po--

"YAAH! Would you quit poking me?! You have sharp nails!" Jiyong growled in a husky voice, sitting up and stretching, rotating his neck.

"Pfft, this is the thanks I get for waking you up? Whatever. Come on we have an assignment to do." I said as I hopped off the table and made my way toward the door. I exited the room and turned right into the empty hallway. I turned around to see Jiyong walking in the opposite direction.

"YAH! Didn't you hear me? We have an assignment to do!" I said as I stormed up to him and grabbed his arm, pulling him in the direction of the library.

"No. You have an assignment to do. I already told you, I'm not doing it." he said as he shook my arm off and walked in the other direction.

I pinched the bridge of my nose. *Breathe in* *Breate out* You can do this Dara. Be patient.

I ran after him and stopped in front of him. He looked down at me, amused, and was about to side step me when I followed his movements, not letting him pass. This continued for 2 more minutes until, his eyes narrowed, no traces of amusement was found on his face anymore and I could tell he was beginning to get annoyed.

"Look, I don't want to spend time with you, as much as you don't want to spend time with me, but the fact of the matter is this assignment must be done by the both of us. Unfortunately we have somehow managed to find ourselves living across from one another and attending the exact same classes. Trust me, I don't like this predicament just as much as you, but we can't change that now. Just please co-operate me. Come to the library and we can get this done in a couple of hours." I calmly said, standing my ground, looking up at him.

He stood there, scanning me with his eyes, but didn't answer.

"Come on, I'm trying here. Lets try to start afresh hmm? We're adults now, let's try to be civil with each other, maybe we can even become friends." I tried again.

Still no reply. We stood there in the corridor for what seemed like forever, my patience was thinning as I stood there. I sighed, my shoulders deflating. Chae, I tried, but he wont' co-operate! I guess I'll just have to do this stupid assignment byself! Stupid jerkface. I'll be sure to tell Mr Sang he had no hand in the work! Hmph! Let him be punished, but I certainly won't be punished!

I broke our staring competition and walked past him, brushing his shoulders, when I felt something grab my forearm. I turned around, surprised to see him holding onto my arm, his eyes danced with amusement. "I don't like the library" he said simply. I couldn't help but smile, I guess I won't be doing this assignment by myself anymore.
