Chapter 20

Eyes, the window to the soul

Dara's POV

== Lunch Time ==

This time, without asking, Jiyong made his way to the cafeteria with me as we began to discuss different ideas for our small booth.

"Hmmm... how about we sell Jewellery?" Jiyong suggested, tapping his chin in thought.

"That's boring! I bet there will be loads of booths selling Jewellery. No, we have to come up with something unique." I said in a voice that said 'Are you stupid?' as I began to rack my brain.

"Well why don't you come up with some ideas then, Miss I'm-so-inventive," he said defensively, since I had already shot down two of his other ideas. I mean come on! The boy had tried to convince me it would be a good idea to sell pets. That's right. Pets. When he'd excitedly told me about his idea, I had merely walked away from him, not even dignifying him with an answer.

"Hmmm... how about origami? That's unique and we can make lots of different things?" I suggested. I always loved origami, it was just so fascinating how the same piece of paper could be turned into so many different things.

"Pfft! To think you called my idea stupid! Come on! We don't have a millenia to fold up paper! Besides whose going to pay for a piece of paper?!" Jiyong shot down my idea harshly, as we sat down at the Cafeteria.

"It's not stupid! Origami is cute! It's not just paper!" I replied defensively.

"Are you guys talking about the University fundraiser?" Youngbae cut in on our squabbling.

"Yeah, we're trying to come up with some ideas. Miss Genius over here thinks it'll be good to sell people paper," Jiyong rolled his eyes as he pointed his thumb at me.

"I told you! It's not just paper!" I fumed in my seat, "Do. You. Mind?!" I exclaimed as I pushed his thumb away from my face.

"Have you guys come up with any ideas?" Jiyong ignored me but nevertheless removed his thumb from my personal bubble.

"I know what I'm doing!" Seungri beamed happily as he popped a potato into his mouth. We all looked at him expectantly, waiting for him to tell us.

"What? I'm not telling you! It'll ruin the surprise!" he said inbetween his chews. CL scrunched her nose up distastefully watching him chew with his mouth open.

"What about the Medical department Daesung?" I questioned.

"Our department isn't much help here, since we're just doing alot of theory, and it's not like we can open up a booth to operate on people," Daesung chuckled at the thought, "So we've just been told to advertise the fair and bring as many people as possible."

I nodded then turned to TOP and Youngbae, "How about Seunghyun Oppa and Bae?"

"Since there isn't going to be enough booths to support all Business students our class has been told to overlook everything and ensure the fair runs smoothly," TOP replied, looking bored.

"I don't know what I'm doing yet..." Bae shrugged.

"What are you doing Chaecat?" Seungri piped in, his mouth still full with food.

"Just because i've forgiven you doesn't mean we're friends, so stop calling me that." CL said sharply, but Seungri just rolled his eyes at her.

"The fashion department are going to hold a fashion show and we're going to show off some of our works," she beamed happily, "I'm going to use the designs i've created for the competition to test out the waters and see if they'll be well received."

"That's great Chae! We'll definitely be there to support you!" I encouraged her and everyone nodded their head in agreement.

"I'm just going to grab some food," I said as I rose from my seat.

'Hmmmm, chocolate cake... or an apple? Unhealthy or Healthy?' I pondered to myself. I had already picked my main dish - Kimchi fried rice - and was debating what to have for dessert.

"You should get the chocolate cake, you're too thin," a hand reached for the chocolate cake I was eyeing and placed it on my tray.

"I can decide for myself thankyou very much," I said in irritation, but nevertheless made my way to the paypoint with my tray of food, the chocolate cake sitting beside my fried rice, "Why do you keep following me?!"

"Who said I was following you? Is it against the law to get some lunch?" he quipped back. Damn! He got me there. I grumbled and quickly paid for my food, making my way back to the table, Jiyong following closely behind with his own tray of food.

I sat down and was about to dig in when I noticed the tomatoes mingling with my rice. I scrunched my nose up in disgust and glanced around the table. Everybody had finished eating and were busy chatting. Well, Daesung, Bae and TOP were chatting, Seungri and CL were busy arguing over something. 'Who am I supposed to pass my tomatoes to now?!' I whined in my head.

/chair scrapes/

Jiyong sat beside me and began to dig into his food. I glanced at his plate, then looked back at the tomatoes chilling casually amongst my rice. Then glanced at his plate again before shrugging, 'It's not like I haven't done this before'. I picked up my fork and pierced two tomatoes and began transferring them onto Jiyong's plate. He paused to see what I was doing, one of his eyebrows cocked up to look at me questioningly.

"I don't like tomatoes," I reminded him, as I continued to fork all the tomatoes onto his plate. Damn! I didn't know there was this many tomatoes in here! They're like ninjas, blending in with the peppers! I would've never picked this dish if I had realised. I diligently continued to transfer the tomatoes onto the ever growing pile on Jiyong's plate.

Jiyong shrugged and began to eat the tomatoes, whilst I looked around for more of those sneaky buggers. I placed the last one on his plate, 'There! All done!' I gave myself a mental pat on the back and began digging into my seriously depleted amount of food, whilst watching CL and Seungri in amusement. Seriously, they're like my own personal entertainment.

*Chew Chew Chew*

'Eh?' I don't remember there being meat in this dish. I glanced down and noticed a small mountain of meat had been plonked into the middle of my dish. Before I could even ponder how it got there a voice broke my train of thought.

"Like I said, you're too thin as it is. You should really eat more meat. You're practically wasting away," Jiyong spoke. I looked at his plate to see that there was hardly any meat left.

He had transferred the majority of his meat over to my plate and now he was basically just eating rice and tomatoes. I forked some of the meat to try and place it back on his plate but he sensed my move and blocked his plate, shielding it from me with his arm and preventing me from transferring the meat back.

I was about to protest when he shot me a look silencing me.

"Be a good girl and eat up neh?" he said, as if he were talking to a child. I watched in silence as he pushed my hand that was holding the fork full of meat back towards my plate, before grabbing his own spoon and mixing the meat into the rice. He then spooned some of the meat up and shoved it into my gaping mouth.

"Good girl," he said before turning back and finishing his plain meal.

I swallowed the morsel of food loudly, still in a slight trance. I felt a nudge and turned to see Jiyong looking at me, his plate now empty.

"Eat." he commanded, "Unless you want me to feed you?" I snapped out of my trance and nodded mechanically, "You want me to feed you?" Jiyong's voice rose a few octaves in surprise.

I blinked at him then realised what had just happened. I blushed slightly then quickly shook my head, he must've thought the nod meant I wanted him to feed me. I quickly diverted my gaze down to my plate and began shovelling the food down. Not even taking the time to savour the tender meat.

"Slow down, the food isn't going anywhere," I heard Jiyong say, the amusement evident in his voice. I slowed my pace down slightly at his words.

In record time I had managed to demolish the food. I was surprised I hadn't choked from the speed I was eating at.

My eyes landed on my dessert and my eyes lit up as I pulled the chocolate cake towards me and grabbed my spoon. I spooned the corner of the cake and brought it up to my mouth.

"Mmmm," I hummed in satisfaction. The chocolate cake was definitely the right choice, screw the apple! I closed my eyes and moaned in appreciation as the chocolate melted on my tongue.

"Stop making that noise, it sounds like you're about to get off with the cake," a voice cut in, ruining my precious moment with my new found love.

When it clicked what he had said I flushed bright red then turned to glare at him.

"You don't understand! It tastes sooooo good!" I moaned again as I took another bite. I saw him watch me as I continued to eat the cake. His eyes showing some sort of hunger. I guess he's still hungry since he gave me all the meat. I began to feel guilty at the thought.

I took my time spooning another piece of cake, debating with myself whether I should or not. Screw it! It's not that weird... friends feed each other right? Besides he fed me first! I'm just going to return the favour...

I lifted the cake up towards his mouth, "Eat?" I nervously asked.

He continued to eye me as he slowly leaned forward taking the spoon into his mouth. My blush grew at the intense look he was giving me. His eyes were showing want. Wow.. he must really like the cake...

I diverted my gaze down to the half finished cake.

"Mmm," I heard him belatedly hum in appreciation. There's still half left... Should I share it with him? After all he did give me half of his dinner... It's the least I could do...

I took a bite of the cake myself then offered him another spoon, as I began to alternate between us.

A spoon for me.

A spoon for Jiyong.

A spoon for me.

A spoon for Ji--

I paused in my position, the spoon lingering close to Jiyong's mouth. It suddenly registered with me how quiet the table had become. I slowly turned around to see CL and the boys gawking at me. At us. All of them were wearing identical expressions their eyes like this - O____o - with their mouths slightly parted. I had been so absorbed in the little bubble Jiyong and I had created that I'd completely forgotten we had company.

"Y-you..." CL stuttered.

"Since when did you guys get so.... close?" Daesung asked, unsure if that was the right word to use, his eyebrows disappearing behind his fringe.

"We're not close!" I quickly denied, causing them all to raise their eyebrows as if to say 'Really Now?' Their faces said it all - they didn't believe a word I said.

"You call that... Whatever that is... Not close?" Seunghyun piped in, his hand gesturing in the general area of Jiyong and I, my current position wasn't helping my case. I was sat close to Jiyong, my spoon hovering centimeters away from his mouth.

I turned to face Jiyong hoping he'd help me out with the situation, although I didn't really understand the situation myself.  All I knew was that the way they were looking at me made it seem like I was doing a bad deed. I felt like I had sinned.

I  looked at him my eyes telling him to say something, but he just shrugged. To make matters worse he leaned forward and took the spoon into his mouth again, unphased that ours friends were openly gawking at us. Does he have no shame?!

"I.. Uh... We.. Uh.." I stuttered unable to come up with a proper explanation. Quite frankly I didn't understand why I was doing what I was doing either.

I turned to look at Jiyong again hoping he'd see how much I was struggling, but no. There he was leaning on the chair with a passive look on his face, like the situation didn't bother him at all. He felt my stare and turned to look at me, his eyes then zoned in on my lips.

"You're still such a messy eater," he muttered as he leaned forward using his thumb to brush the side of my lips. My lips parted slightly in shock as I watched him bring his thumb up to his pursed lips,  the chocolate that had just moments again been on my lips.

"Mmm, sweet," he murmured.

That... That is not how you help the situation! If anything, he had just made it infinitely worse!!! Kwon Jiyong! You just wait till we're alone! You'll never see the light of day again!

I tightly shut my eyes and crossed my fingers under the table, hoping and praying with all my might. 'Please say they didn't see that. Please God! Please Jesus! Please Buddha!' I prayed too all the different gods in vein.

I slowly turned to face my friends, my eyes still shut. Okay, just act normal Dara.

I exhaled then slowly opened my right eye to take a peek, and what I saw made me want to burst out into flames from embarrassment.

They were still staring at us, no doubt just witnessing the unwanted intimate moment. Their jaws practically touching the table as they full blown stared at us, their eyes on the verge of falling out. I had never seen Bae's eyes so big before... Oh look... There goes CL's eyes...

"Seriously guys, you look so stupid right now. If you don't close your mouths soon you'll be having a second round of lunch in the form of flies," Jiyong finally spoke up his voice laced with sarcasm as he rolled his eyes at his friends like what they had seen wasn't a big deal.

His words didn't seem to have any affect what so ever on them as they continued to stare unabashedly, this time their eyes moving from me, then to Jiyong and back again. If I wasn't so embarrased I would've found it quite funny how in sync they all were, their eyes moving left and right like ping pong balls.

"The bell is about to ring... We'll leave you guys to enjoy your flies." Jiyong stood up and grabbed my elbow, pulling me up from my seat. I stumbled slightly at the force of his pull before steadying myself. I somehow felt walking off with Jiyong wouldn't help my case later when CL would drill me with questions, but I couldn't stand their stares any longer. I hurried after Jiyong, taking one last glance back at the table to see CL and the guys still staring at us.
