My Knight In Shining Armor

Memories of Memories

Teen Top’s “Clap”

*******************

Eunjae’s POV~

It was lunch, the period I dreaded the most today. Why would that be you ask? Usually I’d grab my lunch and head up to the library. However, to my rotten luck, the library was closed today because a class needed to use its computers for a lab report. I looked outside and the weather was nearly perfect, aside from the cool gusts blowing in every now and then from the west. But just as I was about to step outside, the sprinklers turn on -_-

I was an inch away from one when I saw them beginning to spray one by one. I’ll have to try and figure out if they have some sort of schedule for when they turn them on.

I didn’t entirely mind sitting in the lunchroom, but it gets lonesome when you sit alone at a table. Yes it’s possible to feel alone in a room full of strangers. Everyone already had a group to sit with seeing as the majority of the kids have gone to the same public elementary and middle school with one another, already becoming childhood friends.

I wish Tao had this lunch period.

I sat at a lunch table near the doors, seeing as it was unoccupied by no one. I was just about to unwrap my sandwich when someone decides to sit on the table and block my light as they peered down at me.

“Check this out you guys looks like we got ourselves a freshman who thinks it’s ok to sit at our table.”

Not this again.

I couldn’t help but roll my eyes. Every single year we all have to put up with this at least once; some bonehead decides that they own a table just because they sat at it once or twice.

Yet I couldn’t say anything, not when he had his entire group surrounding me.

Tao’s POV~

I was idly striding the halls, taking advantage of this silence and peace when I spotted them; EXO-K.

It wasn’t the entire group but there was D.O, and another guy I haven’t met yet.

They were gathering around the lunchroom doors, chuckling at whatever was going on inside.

Idiots.

I could only think of them as that, laughing at the stupidity of the lunchroom. I guarantee their arrogant minds are cackling at someone getting bullied or a fight going on. I was about to turn the corner when D.O scoffed,

“Come on Kai, isn’t this your chance to be the knight in shining armor and save that nerd? What was her name again, Eunmi?” I stopped in my tracks, just as I was about to round the corner. I still had my back turned to them, deciding whether to look inside myself or continue walking.

The guy I assumed to be Kai replied,

“Nah, let them have some fun with Eunjae.” I clenched my fists and turned back around, marching up to the lunch room doors. I peered inside, hoping that my gut feeling was wrong.

There was Eunjae, sitting at a table surrounded by some guys. Anyone would just walk past and not pay attention to her, thinking that she was just minding her own business. But I knew her better than that. Although she was sitting, I could see that under the table both of her feet were turned inwards so that her toes pointed towards one another, something she only does when she feels belittled, scared, or uncomfortable.

Crap.

Just to confirm my suspicions, the guys that originally surrounded her gathered around and I lost my sight of her. The final straw that made me march inside was her sandwich being thrown to the ground.

Eunjae’s POV~

My sandwich was thrown right off the table, their arrogance rising after I refused to talk to them. I hoped that by ignoring them and their insults they’d just get bored and leave. But it actually had the opposite effect.

What amazed me was that with such a prestigious school, you’d think they’d have police men or body guards in every classroom. But it was actually false; there was no adult supervision in the lunchroom.

“Come on nerd, don’t you have something smart to say to us?” They gathered around me. I didn’t even know what they wanted me to say; surely they weren’t thinking that I could fight them one-on-one?

Just as one of them reached out their hand towards me, he was grabbed by the shoulder and tossed backwards, his sliding on the polished floors a good couple of yards. Tao looked back at me and I knew the look he had, his eyes emanated a dark essence that only led to one thing; he’s planning to fight.

“Hey man what’s your-” One of the groupies tried to ask, already cracking his knuckles to try to show his toughness. Yet Tao doesn’t go for ; he goes right to the point and grabs the guy by his arm, throwing him over his shoulder.

Both of Tao’s victims were on the ground groaning in pain, even though I knew Tao held himself back. If you’d seen some of the damage he did in our previous schools, you’d think this was kids play.

Again, no adults showed up but the lunchroom was in full focus on Tao. He looked at his audience and they all flinched away, scared of his fierce eye contact.

“Don’t even touch her again.” Tao hissed, completely unlike himself. Sure these kinds of things happened before, but he never really bothered to tell them off.

“Tao I-” I began but he quickly grabbed my hand and dragged me out of the lunch room.

Wait, isn’t this considered skipping?! And when I said that, I meant for the both of us. Tao was far stronger than me so even if I hesitated, he was still able to easily drag me to wherever he planned on going.

We made our way into the roster office and Tao took out his class schedule, placing it on the table in front of the desk lady.

“I wish to have my lunch changed to this period.” She peered over at us both, wondering why we were here in the middle of fourth period. She sighed and typed away at her keyboard.

“Name?”

“Tao.” She sighed in impatience and asked again,

Full name?”

“Huang Zi Tao.” Tao replied. After a few minutes, a sheet of paper came out of the printer and she handed it to him saying,

“Some of your classes have been changed as well to fit your desired lunch period.” Tao nodded and we walked out of the room. He spun around and I almost collided into him, since he didn’t give any sign of stopping.

He sighed out loud and said in an exhausted tone,

“Eunjae, why didn’t you tell me you were getting bullied? Didn’t I tell you to tell me if anyone was giving you a hard time?” I felt bad now. I did promise him that if anything happened he’d be the first person I’d tell it to. Yet how could I trouble him with such an insignificant matter? It was a new start and I didn’t want us going back to the old routine where I’d drag him down with me to be the of every joke.

And I can’t have him beat up every kid that bullies me, what kind of reputation would that give him? Certainly not one umma would want to hear about…

“Mianhe Tao.” I said, feeling bad. I looked up at him as I felt my bottom lip pout and he gave me the faintest sign of a smile. He ruffled my hair, no matter how many times he does that it always manages to bring a smile to my face, and said,

“Ok ok you’re forgiven, but tell me next time if this ever happens again. Arasso?” I nodded and then I looked down, noticing something.

Tao’s POV~

“Tao?” Eunjae called and I followed to what her eyes were looking at. I took back my hand, not realizing I was still holding onto hers since we left the lunchroom.

She giggled at my reaction and we walked side by side, deciding to not go back to the cafeteria after causing such a scene. Besides, this period was over in a matter of minutes.

“You know Tao, you’re like my knight in shining armor, always there to come to my rescue and protect me.” Her words were so innocent I couldn’t help but blush just the tiniest bit. This kid will never grow up, will she? Yet I loved that about her, how she was still so childish during these times.

Yet something nagged at me when the thought came to mind;

Will I forever be your knight and never your prince?

Chapter 52: I finished reading this really quick. I knew Eunjae and Tao would end up together. But I felt like the part with Kai seems left out, his father wanting him to be better. Kai is a jerk but you almost make him seem redeemable with the way he always have to be the perfect guy with good grades.
Also I don't know why I'm thinking that even if Eunjae is younger, it would have been a funny twist if Kai's sister who ran away was her.
