My Prince Charming Came In a Limousine

Memories of Memories

Hyorin’s “I Choose To Love You”

************

Eunjae’s POV~

I jogged throughout the entire house, peering my head into every room and coming up empty handed. I peeked into the living room and only saw the toddlers playing with the new toys that arrived from the charity truck yesterday evening.

“Eunjae what could you possibly be looking for this early in the morning?” The caretaker, Miss Kwon asked me rubbing her tired eyes as she stifled a yawn. Miss Kwon was a frail and elderly woman around her mid-sixties. She was decrepit but what I loved most about her were her eyes. She had the faintest lines and wrinkles around the corners, showing me that she must’ve smiled a lot when she was younger.

She’s taken me in with such care that it was too awkward for me to call her anything else besides umma. I even tried calling her ahjumma but it never worked out.

“Aigoo~ Mianhe umma, I was just looking for Tao. Did you see him anywhere?” I looked past her and still saw no trace of him. How is it that he woke up earlier than I did?

She scratched her chin before raising a finger, remembering something.

“Ah yes he woke up at the crack of dawn, heading down to the lake.” I thanked her and ran off. My feet eagerly jumped down three stairs at a time, careful not to trip over my own two feet.

“Wear a jacket, it’s chilly out!” Umma shouted behind me. I jumped the last flight of stairs and grabbed a nearby hoodie, my feet already knowing the way towards the lake. I couldn’t forget the directions even if I wanted, a visual map already laid out in my mind.

My feet did a little hop every step I took, crushing the crunchy fall leaves beneath my feet. I love this season the most; right when the world was preparing for spring. The leaves were a beautiful combination of brown, yellow, orange, and red; a perfect palette. I skipped across the uneven land as I managed to hit the forest floor. Tao and I come up here all the time for multiple reasons I’ll tell you about later.

I hopped across the thin river and ran a couple of more meters before coming up to a clearing, spotting Tao.

He was doing the usual; practicing. I considered him to be the strongest fighter in our old school, knowing he could kill anyone who came his way in one single blow. Yet he refused to stop just because he reached the top. He didn’t care if he was the strongest; he just wanted to keep on improving. This made me admire and respect him even more.

Every single one of his moves was perfection. His kicks were always powerful and strong, none of them ever showing a flaw. His punches straight and unwavering, showing his control and speed. And my favorite part was his eyes; always focused on his imaginary target.

I realized I was wasting time and I quickly came up into the clearing, running towards him at full speed.

“Tao!~” I yelled, trying to get his attention. I was a mere foot away when his kick came, nearly hitting my face. The sole of his shoe was only a centimeter away from my nose but I didn’t flinch.

Tao’s POV~

I stayed in that position, my foot blocking out her face. She didn’t move for a second before she slapped my leg away and blew me a raspberry.

“Yah would you stop joking around? You did that to me before already!” She said, clearly remembering the first time I played that joke on her. I gave her a small smile and ruffled her hair.

“Is it time already?” I asked, realizing that the sun was already up and about. She nodded so hard I was afraid her head would fall off. I could only roll my eyes at her immaturity.

“I still don’t understand what the big deal is.” I lifted my gym bag off of the dirt ground, taking my water bottle out. The cool and still frozen bottle felt soothing to the touch. I unscrewed the cap and drank a few sips to replenish myself before pouring the rest of the water over my head, soaking in the refreshing water.

“How can you not be excited?! It’s the most sought out school in Korea and we actually got it. On a scholarship if I do say so myself.” She said proudly puffing out her chest. I shook my soaked hair in front of her face, making sure to splash her with the water.

“Yah Huang Tao!” She shouted in protest as she tried to cover herself. I laughed at her reaction as she pouted like the kids back at the house. She puffed out her cheeks in frustration as she removed her glasses, wiping the water droplets off the glass with the hem of her shirt.

“Alright alright, let’s go get ready then.” I said as we walked back to the house, Eunjae continuing to tell me the exact words that she read off of the school’s brochure about how amazing Seoul Academy is.

Eunjae’s POV~

I bounced on the soles of my feet, impatiently waiting for the train to arrive. I already had the schedule memorized in my head and the train should be here in exactly 3 minutes.

Tao placed a hand on my shoulder, trying to settle me down.

The train arrived and we managed to find two empty seats next to one another. I plopped down on the seat and couldn’t help but tap my foot impatiently.

A bunch of girls I recognized from an all-girls high school, based on their uniform, boarded the train; giggling when they looked at Tao. They continued to glance back at him, one even daring to wink at him. It went back and forth before one of them was pushed by her friends towards us.

“E-Excuse me, do you go to Seoul Academy?” Tao gave her the usual look he gives to strangers; cold and piercing, oozing boredom.

“Yeah.” He replied in something girls like her hate; one-worded replies. I personally don’t care. She asked him a question and he replied, nobody asked for him to ask a question back or start a conversation.

She seemed discouraged by his lack of interest and walked back shameful, like a puppy with her tail between her legs.

“You know it wouldn’t kill you to smile every once in a while.” I teased. He only shrugged his shoulders and continued to look out the window, starring into the dark tunnel.

Don’t worry about him, he’s always like this. Once we hit stranger territory, he puts on his cold armor, not even daring to smile at anyone.

Tao’s POV~

“We’re almost there!” Eunjae half-whispered half-shouted into my ear. We were boarding our 3rd bus and there were a couple more stops before we pulled up a couple of blocks away from our new school.

Seoul Academy was located extremely far from our house, but it was actually closer than our old ones. It’s not like we lived in the middle of nowhere, it’s just that we’ve both been kicked out of our old neighboring schools.

I refused to talk to anyone unless I was called upon by teachers which led a lot of guys think that they could bully me. I simply ignored them and their name-calling, coming to the conclusion that they were well below their age in maturity. But once they began bullying Eunjae as well, I couldn’t help but throw a punch…or two at them.

And so we’ve been tossed back and forth between schools; teachers expelling me for my violent acts and Eunjae being expelled for “back-talking” to all of her teachers when the reality of it is, she outsmarted them.

I pulled the chord to signal the bus driver to stop at the next stop.

“Do you have everything?” I asked Eunjae, looking back at our seats. She rolled her eyes and pointed to her head.

“You know I never forget anything.”

This kid.

I ruffled her head and we got off the bus, walking the remaining distance to school.

Eunjae’s POV~

We were a few steps from our new school; it’s lavish building clearly visible as soon as we got off of the bus. It was closed off by iron gates that were scheduled to close at exactly 8:10 every day to ensure that all students were in by that time. I looked at all of the students; completely baffled by the sight.

Instead of students coming in by bus or a used car, everyone nearly carpooled by a limousine. Everyone’s fashion was quite different as well. Tao and I dressed in the basic uniform that was stated in the code of conduct. Yet everyone else seemed to play around those rules; girl’s skirt’s being a good foot above their knees, high heeled shoes that I only saw on TV runway shows, jewelry flashing me blind as the sun’s rays bounced off of their reflective shine, the guys wearing shoes that looked like it took them hours to polish, their watches from big brands that I’ve only read about in magazines, and all of them were on their newest and technological phones.

I looked at Tao to see if I was seeing things right and he only looked at them all in distaste.

We were both in such awe as we walked inside that we didn’t realize we were blocking a parking lot space until we heard the loud honk behind us.

Tao instantly flinched and grew stiff, like he always did when he was either preparing to fight or was caught off guard.

The left side door opened and a tall male figure stepped out, looking like he just came out of a magazine cover.

“Yah you guys are blocking our parking spot; move!” I was quite taken back. How could such a pretty boy be such a jerk? Tao seemed to notice this trait and put his hand behind my back, leading me away.

The limousine’s right door opened and another male appeared cooing,

“Come on D.O don’t be so mean to them. Sorry about him, he’s just mad he hasn’t had his coffee yet.” The guy whose name is D.O scoffed and sat back down into the car. I was left stunned by the kind male who looked my way. His voice slid off his tongue like rich velvet, his light smile made all the blood rush to my cheeks, and his little wink sent me over the edge.

I found him:

I found my prince charming on the first day of school.

Chapter 52: I finished reading this really quick. I knew Eunjae and Tao would end up together. But I felt like the part with Kai seems left out, his father wanting him to be better. Kai is a jerk but you almost make him seem redeemable with the way he always have to be the perfect guy with good grades.
Also I don't know why I'm thinking that even if Eunjae is younger, it would have been a funny twist if Kai's sister who ran away was her.
