Superbad

Eight months later…

Hanbyul smiled as she pushed the stroller, it was a sunny afternoon and she was enjoying some free time with her nephew and Chanyeol at Rodeo Drive.

“I’m glad we decided to fly in, despite knowing that my parents would tease me here. But hey, it’s all for this kid.” She nudged him. Chanyeol chuckled.

They had just arrived two days ago and both were still adjusting to the time difference.

Chanyeol took her hand as they entered a Chanel boutique.

“We’re meeting your parents and abeoji later.” He reminded as Byul wandered towards the display.

He smiled and followed while pushing the stroller.

“I’ve been wanting to get the Classic Jumbo.” She eyed the green purse.

“You should get it then.” Chanyeol nudged her.

“Wow, I heard no judgment from your tone.” She chuckled and faced him.

“Go, ask the sales representative. I’ll buy.”

Byul blinked at him, he grinned and pecked her cheek before pushing the stroller towards the lounge.

Byul narrowed her eyes as Chanyeol handed his credit card to the lady, she waited for her bag to be packed.

“I thought we established that~”

“Why? I can’t buy you stuff?” He asked as his card was returned.

“Still, Yeol~”

Chanyeol took the shopping bag and handed it to her.

“Consider it as an advance wedding gift.” He winked at her, then he chuckled as he saw her wince.

“You said next year!” She whined as they walked out of the store.

“I know. And like I said no pressure.” He winked at her as he approached the ice cream parlor across the street.

“You already have that.” Saehee pointed towards Byul’s neck as she picked up the tray from the counter. They were inside the kitchen of Mark and Saehee’s Calabasas mansion.

“What do you mean, unnie?” She asked as she put the salad bowl on the table.

“That.” Saehee’s eyes were on the four-carat diamond ring that hung around the silver chain.

“He did propose.” Saehee nodded as she stepped out to the lawn, Byul followed her while balancing the pitcher of lemonade and the salad bowl on her arms.

“He mentioned it, and we talked about it.”

“Are you still not sure about him?” Saehee faced her and Byul shook her head.

“Its…just sometimes..it feels to good to be true, unnie. I’m not even sure if everything’s real.”

Saehee smiled and pinched her sister’s cheek.

“It is real, Byul. He waited for you to return. Even you never asked him to. He made it possible for you to feel safe again. So, everything about this is real.”

Byul glanced at the table.

“And I can see that you need him too.”

“It has been a while,” Mister Hwang breathed in as he sat next to his wife, Mark grinned across him.

“How was your flight, abeoji?” Mark asked him, Byul plopped down beside him.

“Eomma, notice me too!” Byul stated as her mother hovered around the baby. Saehee chuckled as she sat down.

“You’re not the baby anymore, Byul.” Mark laughed.

“Still.” Byul made a face before serving herself some pasta. Chanyeol joined their table and took his seat next to mister Hwang.

“Right, samchon arrived earlier. He’s upstairs.” Saehee spoke to him before taking a sip of sangria.

Byul smiled as she chewed, it did take time for Chanyeol and his dad to get along again, but now with his father’s girlfriend out of the picture, the two were getting along better.

“Are you just going to eat? Not telling us anything about you two?” Mrs. Hwang faced her youngest.

“What’s there to tell? It was on the news.” Byul replied begrudgingly.

“There was a lot of talk about you two, especially when you decided to switch places with Kris Wu.”

She smirked, her mother sent her a look.

“You’re lucky Chanyeol didn’t give up on you, people thought you were getting married to that man.” She chided.

Chanyeol grew amused.

“I’m the one who’s lucky, imo. She came back.” Chanyeol met her gaze, Byul playfully rolled her eyes at him.

“I can hear you nagging all the way upstairs, my friend.” Chanyeol’s father walked out of the house. Mister Park stood up to greet his friend with a hug.

“Our kids are already grown ups, and yet still so~”

“I love you too, eomma. Let’s eat, samchon!” Byul intervened and pulled the elder to his seat.

“Cut her some slack, your daughter was blind enough to love my son back.” The elder teased, Chanyeol made a face at him.

“I’m quite thankful for my nephew.” Byul opened up, Chanyeol glanced at her. The couple was at nearby park, taking a walk before the sun completely set.

“Why?”

“My parents have something else to bother about, eomma doesn’t call me every hour now.” She mused as she wrapped her arm around his. Chanyeol smiled and kissed the top of her head.

“You know,” She spoke her fingers around the ring on the necklace.

“Hm?” Yeol replied.

“All this seems so unreal to me.”

Chanyeol paused.

“Being here with my family and yours. My nephew..and..You.” Byul stood in front of him.

“Honestly, I didn’t think things would work out well for me..ever. Then I was asked to come home. That scared me so much, but back then when I was told that I was going to live with you, I actually felt a little better.” She said honestly, Chanyeol’s lips quirked up.

“You make things better, Yeol. Thank you.”

“Why does this sound that you’re leaving me?” He blinked skeptically; his voice was deeper than the usual.

She chuckled and just tiptoed to press her lips against his.

“Did I make it sound that way? Sorry.” She was smiling as she pulled back, then she yanked the necklace around her neck. Chanyeol blinked at her, she took the ring and eyed it briefly.

“Thank you for not rushing me, Yeol. But I think I can handle this now.” She met his gaze before sliding the ring on her finger.

“So, you’re saying yes?” Chanyeol’s hands went to her waist.

“I already said yes three weeks ago when you asked.” She shrugged, Chanyeol’s smile grew wider.

“Maybe this..August? September? It’s cool. We’re cool.” She nodded, Chanyeol just pulled her to his chest and hugged her tightly.

“Thank you, Hwang Byul.”

She just smiled and nodded, Chanyeol slowly pulled back.

“I love you, Hanbyul.” He whispered before capturing her lips with his.

Been a while since the last time I logged in on AFF.. I thought of looking my fave old subscriptions and saw this again.. Aaah.. Always great to re-read this.. It still gives me the same good feeling eventhough it's been almost 4 years now since I first stumbled on this great work, Authornim.. Looking forward for a sequel or a spin-off with the other characters from the Beijing squad..

Chapter 48: This story deserves an epilogue, where Chanyeol makes a romantic formal proposal, even if it was only the two of them. I love how Byul is a strong woman.
Thanks authornim, love this story!
