First Encounter
The Trip
MY FIRST ENCOUNTER
“Can you believe it? We’re finally here! Korea!” Ashley says while grabbing my arms and shakes me. I almost slip while going down the escalator. I glare at her and she cringes. I’m extremely tired from the 18 hour flight. It’s 5am in California right now. It’s daytime here.
“I know! I’m so excited. We’re gonna be here for 1 month. Let’s make it worth it.” I put my arms around her shoulder and rest my head on it.
“Okay. We need to get our baggage and head to the front to get a taxi. Is your Korean decent, or do we need to ask for help?”
“Umm…” I pull out my translator. I’m barely learning the basics - how the hell would I know what baggage claim is in Korean?! But, it would have helped if I learned the important stuff.
“Ugh.” Ashley runs off to find someone to help. I can hear her in the background.
Um, excuse? Can you help me? I want to get my baggage.
Uh, baggu? The man is gesturing a luggage by pushing his hands back and forth.
“Mag, follow me.” She pulls me with her and we’re walking. She ignores the fact that I almost dropped everything.
“REALLY, Ash? REALLY?”
“Mag - please. Our baggage is the most important thing we have. Ha!”
We finally arrived to the baggage claim. Our stuff hasn’t came out yet. I decided to tip the man that helped us.
"Thank you. Thank you." He repeated it over and over again while bowing. I forgot that bowing here is very important.
“Ash, remember. Bowing is one of the most important cultural aspects of this country.”
And she rolls her eyes. What a diva. Haha.
“There’s our luggage. I still can’t believe you bought pink luggages. That’s something I would do,” Ash sighed while grabbing her stuff.
“Yeah, I know. I can’t believe I did either. I guess you’re rubbing off on me too much. It’s okay though. You’re my other half,” I said with a smile and reached for her hand.
“Aww, babe. I love you too,” she responded while laughing ridiculously loud. That’s our relationship. We’re best friends, but we have our gay moments.
Anyways, while chit chatting our way to the exit of the airport. We got bombarded by tiny little Korean girls. Ahem. REALLY? We finally got our way out of their crowd.
“WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?!?!” I yelled. I’m there watching the girls jumping up and down in front of a car screaming something along the lines of “opa”. The first thing I think of is a grandfather.
“I don’t know, but . Jesus might be in the car.” Ashley is dusting herself and checking if she lost anything.
“Forget it. Let’s get a taxi and head to our hotel. I wouldn’t mind sleeping for a few hours and then hit the nightlife.” I raised my hand to catch a taxi and all of a sudden I hear even more yells.
Ash and I looked towards the girls and we see body guards pushing them aside and cameras around them. What the hell is going on?
“Maybe Jesus IS in the car…”
And then that’s when I saw him. A guy, followed by 4 other guys, with a mohawk. He’s wearing a black pullover sweater with a beige leather jacket over it. He’s also wearing aviators. For some reason, I began walking closer to him.
“Hey Ash. Let’s check it out.” I started walking and left my luggage next to her.
“Mag, really?” she’s shaking her head. I have a weakness for extremely hot guys.
As I walked closer to him, he stopped and started signing autographs for the girls. He was talking to the reporters. The others that followed him were also talking to the reporters. At moments like these I wished I took Korean seriously. I finally got a safe distance closer to the girls. I was trying to get a better look at the guy because, let’s face it, he was gorgeous. His skin complexion was beautiful - nice, light-skinned, and soft. It looked really soft. I wanted to graze it. He finally took of his shades and started laughing. Aww, his eyes disappears. He's really cute. I'm going to take a picture of this scene. When I reached for the camera, Ash tapped my shoulder. My camera dropped.
“Mag, we got to go. I got a taxi already. Here, I’ll take the picture for you. Stand next to the girls and I’ll get you and the guy.”
"That would be great if i have my camera." I see my camera fall beneath the feet of the crazed fans. I reached on the floor, pushing the girls legs aside to get it, but I failed. One of the girls stepped on it. When she realized, she continued to step on it. "Well, that's not going to work anymore."
Ash jaw dropped and she reached for her phone. "We still have this! Lean into the girls carefully and pose. I'll be sure to get him."
So I posed while leaning in onto the girls with out touching them and through a peace sign.
“I swear, you’re so weird sometimes, Mag."
