It was not the best timing to see Yunho now, especially after the quarrel they had in the morning. But instead of pulling away from Yunho’s kiss, Seohyun stood there, hands caressing his back comforting him. Somehow, she could feel that something was wrong with Yunho for him to act that way. Despite separating for five years, she still knew Yunho’s habits very well. 

Yunho pulled away from the kiss and stared at Seohyun. What surprised him was, Seohyun pulled him for a hug the next moment. It was warm and comforting, it felt so right. They were quiet throughout the entire time, not willing to ruin the precious moment they share.

“Sorry.” Yunho muttered softly as he kept his eyes close, tired of all the things that have happened for the day. He apologized for his words and outburst at her earlier on. He knew he was a little too harsh, though he had to admit it was hard to keep his temper in when it comes to Seohyun and other men. “Yunho..I want to move on. But why is it so difficult?” Seohyun asked softly. “Then don’t. Stay with me.” Yunho replied, holding her tighter. “You know this is hard for you and me.” She sighed. “It won’t be anymore. I told them already.” He said. Seohyun released Yunho from her arms and stared at him in disbelief. “You what..?” She blinked. “No, you did not…” She said to herself. “I did.” He confirmed. “Apologise to them now! Tell them you were not serious about it!” Seohyun said worriedly.

“I am serious about it. I won’t be wasting Yuri’s time as well.” He insisted. “But this will impact so many things Yunho.. Your company, your family, it’s not just about us!” Seohyun exclaimed. “This is what I fear Yunho, to be with you, there are so many implications. We will always be selfish because of our decision to be together.”  She added. “Seo Joohyun. Can you please think about yourself for once. Or at least think about me. I’ve always listened to my parents, the company, do whatever they told me to, I want to make my own life decisions for once. I want to fight for myself for once.” He reasoned. Seohyun fell silence, she suddenly understood what he meant. He was never selfish, he was just being considerate to follow his parents’ orders.

“I’m sorry Yunho…I guess I should have listened to you more. But the thought of your reputation tarnished because of our relationship, and Yuri suffering because of us, it makes me scared to even think about it.” Seohyun confessed. “Let us be selfish for once, if this is a sacrifice I have to make, I don’t care. I don’t care how others look at me. I only care about us. So please, just trust me this time round, I will make things right.” Yunho assured. Seohyun nodded her head, she too was tired of avoiding Yunho, tired of avoiding her true feelings.

“Can I sleep over tonight? I’m too tired to go home.” Yunho asked, eyes barely opening. Seohyun smiled, it has been awhile since she felt this feeling already, the last was five years ago. She stood up and pulled Yunho to her room, tugging him in bed and gave him a goodnight kiss. She slept well that night.

It was lunch time and the café was buzzing with people. Seohyun was thankful for the noise because without them, the atmosphere would be silent and awkward. She received a call from Yuri at 9am, requesting a meet up nearby her office for a little talk and there was no reason to decline.

When she reached, Yuri was already sitting there, staring into space. Her face was full of concerns but mostly fatigue, and it was obvious to her that Yuri too was bothered by what happened between them yesterday. The server came over and Seohyun ordered a cup of hot milk tea to calm her nerves. Yuri started speaking when the drink was served. 

“I knew about the two of you five years ago.” Yuri said as she gave a bitter smile. “It was not difficult, with the way he was looking at you, attentive to every little details of your actions, he was smitten by you.” She added. “I’m sorry unnie.” Seohyun could only apologise. She has already brought hurt to her friend, which was why she chose to leave five years ago. “I did it on purpose. I knew you were kind hearted, so I told you about the suspicion I had of Yunho having another woman. Though I did not expect that you would leave without saying a word. Besides thankful…I felt really guilty Seohyun.” Yuri confessed, her eyes looking at the cup in front of her.

“I tried to change Yunho’s heart, tried to look good, tried to do everything to please him, but he became much more distant than before. We seldom meet, and when we do, it’s because our parents wanted to see us. Eventually, after begging my parents to arrange for the marriage quickly, they did. Yunho disagreed, giving all sorts of reasons and excuses, but his parents were on my side. He had no choice actually.” She laughed a little, feeling a little pathetic for herself to resort to such ways. “Never once did he show me any affection, I was hurt and angry, we fought a lot, though it was most initiated by me to gain his attention.” Her eyes were filed with sadness, but she held in her tears. 

“I’m tired Seohyun. That’s why I asked you here. I lost, I can never be the one Yunho loves, he will never see me as a woman.” Yuri said quietly. “Unnie…” Seohyun did not know what to say, she was sad that Yuri suffered as long as the both of them. Yuri shook her head. “I don’t need your pity Seohyun, I deserved all these, I should have known better instead of wasting all of our time, forcing Yunho into a marriage he was reluctant in.” 

“I’m leaving for Canada tomorrow.” Yuri announced. “What unnie…you don’t have to do this.” Seohyun was shocked, why do they always have to escape when they are hurt. “It’s for myself, I’ve been trapped here long enough already.” She said. “Be happy Seohyun, you and Yunho.” Yuri stood up and left Seohyun.

Yunho was standing outside the café and he saw Seohyun and Yuri conversing. He followed Seohyun when she rejected lunch with him nervously, saying she had an appointment with a friend. Yuri almost bumped into Yunho when she left, she stopped for a moment, gave him a light smile while Yunho nodded to her. He then went into the café and stood beside Seohyun, hands squeezing her shoulders. “Yuri is leaving for Canada tomorrow.” Seohyun said, tears flowing down her face. Yunho said nothing as he bent down and hugged her.

Yunho thought that it was fair to have a closure with Yuri. He too was guilty of treating her badly throughout these years. With that, he dialed her number on his phone, thinking this was a better way for the both of them than a meet up which would just be equally awkward. After five rings, Yuri picked up. “Yuri?” Yunho greeted first. “Yeah..?” She replied, a little soft and careful. “I thought I needed to apologise.” He said, straight to the point. He heard her taking a deep breath to calm her emotions. “It’s alright, I should have already known and given up years back.” She said. “I should have stopped this from happening earlier.” He said. “No. I knew all about it, you and Seohyun. But I acted like I did not, actually…I was the one who caused her to leave. I am the guilty one Yunho. Please..let’s not talk about this anymore. I am sorry for the misery cause towards you and Seohyun.” She reasoned, not allowing Yunho to blame himself any further. “Be happy.” Was what Yunho said before he hung up.
