Chapter 6 – The Future

A Cyborg Like My Perfect Bias [Hiatus]

“What?!!” screamed Sooyun, afraid.  There’s no way he’s more than 10 years older than her…  She has never met him and who the hell was he to say that he was in love with her.  “Who the hell are you?!”

A small, painful smile crossed over his lips.  He struck out his hand to her, as if they had just met.  Sooyun stared at the hand, suspiciously, and left him hanging.  He let his hand dropped with a heavy sigh.  He looked down at her with the same, sad smile.

“It’s OK…” she heard him said, softly.  “You don’t know who I am, yet…  But, it’s OK.”  He stood up straightly and cleared his throat.  “My name is Moon Shin and I come from the year 2088.  I am a robot created by your father, Sung Bin, a genius engineer that went to CalTech and graduated from the California Institute of Technology in 2013.  After your death from the crazy event earlier, your father spent his entire life to create me.  I was completed on January 1, 2077 and have travelled through time to come here, to the present, to save you from your untimely death about 26.3 minutes ago.  My life mission is to love and protect you, Sung Sooyun, for the rest of your life.”

She stood there, dumbfounded, as she tried to absorb all the information that the guy had just told her.

“Will you marry me?” he smiled.

Sooyun blinked as she brought herself back to reality.  She took a deep breath, knowing well about what she was going to do.  Before he knew it, she started sprinting away from him.  She could hear his footsteps behind her as she quickly made her way up the steep hill to her apartment.  All the sudden, she could feel him grab her backpack and she quickly let herself free from it.  It didn’t matter if he had her things.  She had her keys on her anyways.

Sooyun quickly ran up the stairs to her apartment and didn’t care if the neighbors woke up.  It would probably be better if they woke up and help her get the guy arrested anyways.  She let out a scream as she opened the door to her apartment.  The guy was right there, just 2 steps behind her.

She quickly pulled the door opened, slipped in, and slammed the door in his face.  She quickly locked the door, making sure that he couldn’t get in.  Her heart was beating so loud in her ear as she tried to breathe properly.  She swallowed hard as she stepped away from the door.  She was grateful that the guy wasn’t trying to bang down the door to get to her.

Then, the guy knocks on the door.

Sooyun reached out for the home phone when it suddenly ring, scaring her.  The knocking at the door continues.  She is ready to call the police and quickly cursing under her breath as she answered it.  “Hello?” she asked, annoyed.

“Sooyun, are you home?” asked a familiar voice.

“Dad!” she replied, feeling herself tear up.  “Oh my God, Dad!  Something weird IS HAPPENING!!!  This guy followed me home and saying all these crazy things!!  What do I do?!”

“Open the door.” Mr. Sung demanded.

                “No.” replied Sooyun.

                “Sweetie, I’m home.” he said.

                “Stop lying.” she said.

“I’m not.” stated Mr. Sung, frustrated.  “I’m at the door right now.”

Sooyun gulped, as she went back to the door.  “Why are you home?” she asked, softly.

“To check in on you.” replied Mr. Sung.  His voice could be heard loud and clear from outside the door.  “I wanted to make sure you were safe.”

Sooyun closed her eyes tightly and took a deep breath, as she pulled away the phone from her face.  She unlocked the dead bolts and opened a slit, to look outside.  If she was going to die, then she will die protecting herself with the door.  Sooyun let out a gasp.

“DAD!!!” she yelled out.  A wave of relief washed over her as she opened the door wider.  She quickly hugged her father and cried into his chest.  “Dad, it was such a crazy night.  Some guy tried to follow me-”

Sooyun had turned her face to the side to listen to her father’s heartbeat…  When she saw the guy from earlier standing right there, watching them.  He was wearing a small smile as her eyes widened.  She pulled away from the hug and looked up at her father.

“Dad, that’s him.  Why aren’t you telling him to go home?!” asked Sooyun, horrified.

Mr. Sung smiled down at his only child.  He cupped her face and placed a kiss on her forehead.  “It’s not good to talk out here.” he said.  “Let’s go inside.”  Sooyun frowned as her father gently pushed her inside the dark apartment and ushered the guy to come in as well.  “I hope you don’t mind the home, Shin.  I’m sure you’re aware of our situation well, but you must be used to something greater.”

Sooyun could hear the young man smile.  “I don’t mind it at all.” he said, as they stepped into the house.  “It’s cozy.”

Mr. Sung laughed.  “Now, you’re just trying to be nice.” he said, as Sooyun turned around to look at them.

They were in the small living room now.  It is crowded when there is 2 people there, but 3 people is pushing the available space that the apartment could hold.  Sooyun glanced from her father: an average looking man with an average height in his late 30’s.  He was young for a man who has a daughter her age…  Sooyun’s parents had her when they were 17, barely out of high school, and decided not to go to college to raise her up.

Then, she glanced over to the guy who’s name is Shin.  Even after what has happened, an urge to want to scream like a fangirl still washes over every single time she lays her eyes on his face…  He looks just like Lu Han

“Well?!” asked Sooyun, irritated.  She no longer has any patience for the strange things that has happened so far.  It’s late and she wants to sleep.

Shin smiled as he turned towards the blank, white wall that the TV was by.  Sooyun eyed his eyes closely and could see that they dilated.  The irises became big and abnormal looking.  She took a step back, scared.  All the sudden, there was a video projected on the wall.

“Hello my one and only child, Sooyun.” said an elderly man.  “How are you?”

She stared at the person in the video and looked back at her father.  The man looks like an older version of her father.  “How are you, Bin?” asked the man in the video.  “I’m sure you two are well because of Shin.”

Sooyun turned back to look at the video.  The man smiled.  “It makes me happy to know that you are fine, Sooyun.” he said.  “This is my life 48 years after you died in the hit and run accident that you were caught in…  You died, my darling…  All because of an idol boy band member, Lu Han.  After your tragic death, I realized that you were literally in love with him and you died just because you could see him.”

Sooyun felt her eyes start to water.

“I was so horrified at the thought that you had risked your life for this young man and yet…  He would never know that you exist.  I wanted him to know of your life and your love towards him by sending him letters, trying to talk to him at events or fansigns or at the SM Entertainment building.  Lu Han is a good, polite, and kind young man.  He listened, but he could do little to comfort me of your loss.  So, as the engineer I am, I decided that it was best that I built a robot that looks exactly like Lu Han to be your lifelong protector…  And, lover.

“I spent my whole life up until 2077 trying to build the perfect Shin.  So many cyborgs before him were never good enough…  Until him.  He is perfect in every single way.  The reason why he didn’t come save you until 11 years after his creation was because I wanted him to be as human as possible.  I programmed him to be able to be as complex as a real human, but most of all…  He possesses the ability to love.  The 11 years of delay helped me expose him enough to the human complexity and to the memories of you, to make him fall completely in love with you.  Sooyun, Shin will love and protect only you.  Please let him…  He was created by me, your father, just for you because I love you too much to lose you.  You wrongfully died on the night of that music showcase and deserve to live out your life as you want to.  Shin will help you, so you do not need to worry about money any more.

“About your schooling, I give you permission to become the makeup artist that you have always wanted to be.  You no longer need to take that beauty night class at the community school any more.  As of today, you may go to a certified makeup artistry school.  In addition, I made sure that Shin came back to the past with a trust fund worth 1 trillion USD.  Through the miss and hits of creating Shin, I have created a vast empire of a high tech engineering company…

“I have much money to spare and would rather have my daughter have my assets than anyone.  Bin, do not worry about the money.  The only thing in history that will change is Sooyun’s death.  All I can say is that you need to stick to America after you graduate, then come back to Asia when the time is right…  When the technology is calling you.”

And, with that, the video faded away as Shin closed his eyes.  He was still wearing his smile.  Sooyun continued to stare at him like a freak.  He turned to her and reached out his hand to her.  The sound of her heartbeat silenced out what her father had said to her.  Without warning, Mr. Sung grabbed her hand and pulled her towards Shin.

Shin gracefully took Sooyun’s hand in his.  He looked down at her with the most beautiful smile she has ever seen.  “I’m so excited to be here.” he said, with happiness.  “I’m so glad to finally to be with you, my little lover…  Those 11 long years were worth the wait to see you in flesh and metal.”

Sooyun couldn’t say anything, as she felt Shin squeezed her hand gently.  His smile grew wider, if possible.  “I promise that I will be here, forever and ever.” he said.  “And, we’ll have a beautiful journey together until the end of time.”

AUTHOR’S NOTE:

When I was writing this, I didn’t have the urge to want to cry…  But, when I reread it to look over any grammar mistakes, I suddenly wanted to cry.  T.T

Damn, I wish I get a robot boyfriend to be with me for the rest of my life.
