Chapter 3

I Aim to Please You...

Ryeowook's POV

That night I had strange dreams.  It wasn't a single continuous dream, but rather a disjointed series of incoherent scenes.  The the dream followed no plausible order, and they seemed all separate.  However, each scene was similar in that the image was blurry.  The colors were faded, and the images had a fuzzy quality.  In my subconscious I strained to get a clearer look, but the the haze never lifted.  The voices that rang out were faint and almost garbled.

Despite the lack of clarity, the dreams seemed somehow familiar.  The faint buzzing of voices, and the obscured images all seemed strangely comforting.  The dream faded in and out, never letting me close enough to distinguish the full picture, but these faded snapshots almost had the ethereal aura of forgotten memories.

I was entranced by the blurred image of what I assumed was a swing set,and three figures, when my alarm sounded, whisking me away from the obscurity of my sleep.  I rubbed my eyes and looked around, feeling slightly relieved that the world appeared in acute detail and vivid color.  I arched my back and yawned loudly as I tried to recognize my surroundings.

I realized where I was, and I couldn't stop the smile that reached my face.  I was with my family, and I was in a place where I could test my potential.  I dressed quickly and made my way out of the room.  I almost bumped into Sungmin as I walked out into the hall.  He was walking with a taller, older looking man whose cat-like eyes were accentuated with black liner.

I bowed to my sunbaes, and greeted them.  Sungmin hugged me and happily introduced his companion.

"Morning Wookie!" I smiled when I heard him adopt my nickname, "This is my boyfriend Yesung!  He's older than us, but you can just call him hyung"  I smiled and Yesung bowed somewhat awkwardly.

At first glance, you would think that Sungmin and Yesung were polar opposites.  Sungmin was like the sunshine, bubbly and warm.  Yesung on the other hand, resembled the moon.  He was quiet, and he had a mysterious feel about him that almost made him seem aloof.  However, the longer I watched the two, the more I saw how they clicked.  Despite my first impression, Yesung was actually not as serious as he seemed.  Sungmin seemed to defrost him and I found that Yesung was surprisingly goofy and even a little dorky.

Sungmin was actually rather insightful, while he seemed a bit hyper and ditzy, he actually carefully observed others and his surroundings.  He seemed to have a gift in reading people.  Just by studying one's actions or expressions Sungmin could usually determine a person's attitude, or character towards something.

I felt really comfortable around my two hyungs and I was grateful that they seemed to take me under their wings.  They introduced me to some of their other friends, and also explained important things I should know about the house.  For example, I was informed that Mr. and Mrs. Cho were rarely ever home.  They came to the mansion maybe once or twice every six months.  Similarly, Ahra was already married so she had her own mansion so she only visited on rare occasions.  I nodded, and couldn't help but feel amazed that this huge estate was simply for the two brothers.

My mom and dad were already in the kitchen when I arrived with the Yemin couple.  My parents both greeted me with a hug, and dragged me over to sit with them.  They had already made a plate for me and I rolled my eyes when I saw it was filled with every fattening food known to man.  Sungmin giggled as he saw my breakfast and Yesung just looked mystified.

I sighed and began to eat as my parents watched with obvious satisfaction.  After we ate, my parents gathered all the employees and introduced me.  I was a bit embarrassed by the amount of attention I was receiving, but I was also pleased to welcomed so warmly.  Once I was properly acquainted with the others, my father began splitting the workers into groups and assigned each group a specific task to ready the estate for the Cho's arrival.

I was placed in a group with Sungmin and Yesung.  We were put in charge of preparing the Young Masters' rooms.  My father stressed the importance of this particular task, making me a bit nervous.  However, I trusted that Sungmin and Yesung would be able to tell me what to do.

"Let's start with Henry's room" Yesung suggested as we headed for the third floor.  I shrugged, not really having a preference.  When the elevator opened onto the third floor, I looked around trying to decide which door led to the bedroom.  Sungmin must have guessed my thoughts because he giggled and whispered in my ear,

"Wookie, this whole floor is his room"  I gaped at my hyung, and turned to Yesung to see if he was kidding.  Yesung simply grinned and nodded, indicating that what Sungmin had said was the truth.  I looked around in shock, I couldn't help but think that it must be really nice to be rich.

The room was relatively neat, from what I could see.  I walked around opening different doors and peeking my head in to see what purpose each door served.  He had his own snack bar, indoor pool, spa, gym, library and arcade room.  His actual bedroom was enclosed my double glass doors.  His bed was the size of a small country and covered in a golden bed spread that shimmered in the light of the room. We divided the huge space, and I was in charge of cleaning the rooms in the west wing.

I was to clean the library, music room, and the large space that actually held his bed.  I stepped into the library and breathed in the warm comforting smell of old books.  The shelves were of a rich mahogany, and velvet trimmed arm chairs and couches encircled the noble fireplace that lay in the center of the room.  I set to dusting the shelves, and vacuuming the plush carpeted ground.  After about an hour I was finally finished and I headed to the music room.

This was my favorite area I had seem so far.  Every instrument known to man could be found in the sound proofed room.  There was even a mini recording studio that was obviously professional grade.  This room was easier to clean because the floor was hard wood, so it only needed a quick sweep.  The instruments were also kept in impeccable condition so it they required little attention.  I finished the room in only half an hour, before heading to the bedroom.

Yesung had told me that the bed sheets were made fresh everyday, so I left the bed as it was.  I walked over to the flat screen that took up a whole wall.  I dusted and cleaned the huge TV so I could see my reflection in the smooth black surface.  I vacuumed and shampooed the dark brown carpet until it was fluffy and sweet smelling.  I continued to clean meticulously until I was finally finished.

I pushed my bangs away from my face and stood back to admire my work.  Suddenly, a picture frame placed on the edge of yet another fireplace caught my attention.  I stepped closer and saw it was an image of three children all hugging each other with bright smiles on their faces.  I squinted in disbelief as I studied the child in the middle.  He looked like me when I was about four years old, the chubby rosy cheeks having been my trademark characteristic.  I didn't really recognize the other two in the photo, and I shook my head in denial.

I must have been exhausted, because I was staring to imagine things.  Why would a rich stranger have a photo of me when I was a child.  My mother's story came back to me, but I just ignored such absurd thoughts.  There was no way she was telling the truth, it was just too crazy.  I finally regained my composure and walked out of the room to meet with Yesung and Sungmin who had just finished cleaning their section.  Once I arrived they smiled and led me to the elevator.

The fifth floor belonged to the elder brother Kyuhyun.  While Henry's room had more of an antiquated, classic , and warm feel with it's deep earth tones and wood accents, Kyuhyun's room was a totally different story.  While Henry's room was separated into different sections by doors, Kyuhyun's room was completely open, with few doors at all.

Each different area was closed of by transparent glass double-doors that gave the whole space a cool open feel.  His room was also more towards the modern side.  The room was mostly bare with pristine white walls, and silver and chrome hints.  Instead of a fireplace, there was a water feature in each of the rooms.  Some rooms had full blown fountains, while others held huge fish tanks where colorful sea creatures added vibrancy to the otherwise monochromatic area.

His floor was easier to clean as the whole room had marble floors.  The real issue was having to clean and dust all the electronics and hundreds of TVs and laptops that were strewn throughout the space.  I walked through the double doors that led to his actual bed room, and looked around curiously.

His bed was as large as his brothers, but his bed lay on a raised platform in the very center of the room.  The bedspread was a shimmery silver color that seemed fitting for the modern decor.  Not one, but three huge TVs took up three walls in this room.  A huge touch screen computer took up another wall, and I glanced at it wondering how any single person could have so many technological innovations.

After mopping the floor, and shining the TVs I was about to leave when a door caught my attention.  Unlike the glass doors that all the other rooms had, this door was made of shiny stainless steel.  This being the one room I couldn't see into, it sparked my interest immediately.  I was about to push it open when I heard Sungmin shout,

"No!"  I spun around, startled and looked at Sungmin with wide eyes.  His face was pale, and his hands were trembling.

"Hyung, are you okay?" I asked with concern.  At this moment Yesung rushed in, looking alarmed and panicky.

"What happened?" he asked panting slightly from having sprinted when he heard Sungmin's scream.  I shook my head and explained,

"I was going to clean this room, but he freaked out when I was about to walk in"  Yesung's face turned a bit frightened, and he hurried over and dragged me away from the door.

"Wookie, I'm sorry we forgot to tell you, but that is the one room in this whole house that we are absolutely forbidden to enter" I must have looked doubtful because Yesung squatted down slightly so I could see the seriousness in his eyes.  "Kyuhyun is usually a very mild person.  He pretty much ignores the servants, and is quiet and keeps to himself" my hyung shuddered slightly before continuing,

"But the last time a maid went in that room, she was fired immediately... I've never seen the Young Master like that before... it was like he was possessed.  They said that the woman had to move to China to escape his wrath"  I stared at Yesung with shock.  I was actually scared of this man.  I had only heard about how kind and nice the Young Masters were, but it seemed that everyone was truly afraid of this Kyuhyun.

Yesung gripped my shoulders and looked at me with pleading eyes,

"Promise me you will never go into that room" he begged, looking scared to death.  I just nodded numbly, and let my hyungs hustle me out of the room.

I looked back at the mysterious door, and I felt a cold spike of fear run down my spine.  However, I couldn't deny that I was itching with curiosity despite knowing the risk.  Knowing the dire consequences associated with that room only made it all the more appealing.  I couldn't help but think,

"What does he keep in that room? And why is everyone so scared of him?"
