Chapter 3: Breaking Bread

A Bang In The Heart

"Oh anyoung Youngbae-ah." Huijoon said as he stepped forward to hold the door open.
The guy limped forward out of the the room with his eyes wincing at every step he took. "Oowww" he said with a deep furrow in his brow.
    "Dang what happened to your legs?" Huijoon asked.
His legs were scarred red and swollen like someone had beaten him up.
"Hahaha he said a drunk angel fell on him from the sky on his way here this morning!" Jiyong said half laughing as he grabbed his stomach and pounded on the desk. The other three started to laugh as well and my ankle started to suspiciously hurt again.
Drunk? Did I look drunk to him??
Youngbae looked at me with smiling eyes and a playful grin. His eyes had this twinkle in them that seemed to know me as an old time friend.
"Nah I just got beat up last night." Youngbae said as he gave a low chuckle and looked at me teasingly.
"Enguhlishi Teachahh!!" Kush shouted again in the same teasing tone.
"Anyounghasayo!" I said brightly as if that would take away a bit of the guilt.
"Oh Remi-shi is it? I heard in the recording room" Youngbae pointed behind him.
"Ahh yes" I nodded.
      Huijoon opened the door out of the room, "Yah Jiyong and Youngbae, you guys should start your lesson today and talk your schedule over with Remi-shi"
"Uhh right now?" Jiyong looked at his silver engraved Rolex. "Yeah sure."
Jiyong walked cooly out of the room. As he passed me, our eyes met and my heart for some reason skipped a beat. Jiyong gave a sly looking grin and walked on swiftly.
As Youngbae walked out of the room, I touched his shoulder lightly.
I put my head down and leaned close to him as I whispered, "I'm so sorry"
He looked at me and gave a warm smile but just walked on by.
"Remi-shi, let's go" Huijoon said as he held the door open.
~~~~~
We sat out in the lounge area which was extremely cozy looking and comfortable for an entertainment company. The couch was soft and relaxing, the lights were pretty and calm and most of all, the guys looked so at ease. My uptight outfit totally did not match the entire atmosphere of it all. I felt embarrassed of myself as I tried to awkwardly sit down keeping my legs together.
"Well actually, Youngbae and I are free all week because we're just kinda recording on and off but tomorrow I gotta go down to visit someone. It's TOP hyung who's really busy right now because of his filming." Jiyong said as he touched his ear.
"Ahh yea, hyung is only available at night till this week, but I think he's free few days next week." Youngbae said with an assuring nod.
"Uhh... Seungri. Yah, where the hell is Seungri by the way?" Jiyong laughed as he pointed his finger to Youngbae."That kid's never here!"
Youngbae gave a short laugh. "I don't even know, I think he's in Japan for that show..."
Jiyong gave another wide friendly smile which greatly contrasted with his cold image. "I'll text him later and ask."
Jiyong's eyes sparkled as he looked at me. "So seungri will probably be back later this week and uhh Daesung..." He looked at Youngbae.
"He's in rehearsal week for the musical but I know he'll be here Wednesday for recording." Youngbae said.
"Well, we'll call them and let you know when we're sure." Jiyong smiled.
I nodded quickly.
"But by the way.... How old are you?" Jiyong said in a very smooth and y sounding English. It seemed like there was only just a slight accent. Very unnoticeable.
"I was born in 1990." I responded oddly in Korean.
Jiyong and Youngbae looked at each other in surprise..
"What? Really?!" Youngbae said in English. "I thought you were my age!"
Jiyong nodded, "Yeah! You're 'donggap*' with Seungri haha" he said laughing.
"It's my outfit I swear!!" I shouted inside my head but instead it came out, "Oh haha that's... Nice."
Youngbae gave a sweet looking smile and gestured toward me. "But you are very beautiful." He said in English.
I felt myself blush and I felt like I was burning. What was wrong with me? It's not like this was the first time I heard a compliment. Come on Remi!! Was that sweat on my forehead? Why was I sweating?? I began to panic in my head.
"Thank you" I said politely trying to sound as relaxed as possible.
-------------------------
*donggap- same age
The next hour, we discussed what we should look over up till the day the tour starts. Jiyong and Youngbae were both serious when it came to business because they had this look in their eyes full of determination and a willingness to learn. It was so different then I had expected from them.
~~~~~~
"Well Remi-shi, see you Wednesday" Jiyong said calmly and gave me a soft smile. He bowed his head slightly and waved bye as he went back to the recording room.
"Bye bye" I waved back.
I felt a quick blow of air into my right ear and I turned around in surprise.
Taeyang was right in front of my face! He was so close to me that I could feel his hot breath on me. I could see every little detail of him from his eyelashes to his ...bold soft looking lips. I raised my eyebrows and and backed up in shock.
Taeyang touched his hat and looked down. "Oops sorry, didn't mean to scare you."
He looked back at me with playful eyes with a hint of sadness, "Haha I just always wanted to do that to someone."
I shook my head, "No! I mean.. I-It's okay!"
He his lips and put his hand over his mouth as if he was telling a secret.
"By the way, I forgive you." He pat my shoulder lightly. "Tomorrow then?"
I nodded and he walked back into the recording room like Gd did.
Whew~  I sighed loudly and walked to the elevator.
It's only been a day yet I felt like I've gone through a whole year. I took out my hairband and let my hair down. I was overdressed, I was late, and most of all I was unprepared. Was I really up for this job? And that guy, Jiyong, why did he look so interesting to me? And Youngbae, why does he make me feel so comfortable with him, like an old time friend? I didn't know what was wrong with me.
~~~~
When I got home, Sua was dying to know everything. She held her hands together in anticipation like a little child waiting for candy. I didn't tell her that what happened with Taeyang because how would she respond if I told her, "Yea I kinda just fell on top of one of the biggest kpop stars ever. He's got a couple scars here and there but no biggie." She would have skinned me alive.
"Hey Sua, what's your job?" I asked hoping to shy away from having to explain too much detail from today. In fact I've been wondering for a while now.
"I'm a photographer journalist" she said as she opened a tub of yogurt.
"Really? That's pretty neat"
"Yea I work for a magazine company, but I'm pretty much a newbie so I get paid like next to nothing."
Sua put a big spoonful in and swallowed hard. Pulling out her spoon, she pointed at me."By the way, tomorrow, I'm interviewing someone down south and I'm spending the night there so I won't be here at all tomorrow."
That means I would be alone tomorrow. Tomorrow when I'm done teaching, I'll go look for a job!
~~~~~~
I woke up in cold sweat that night when I heard a loud slam from the next door.
"Damn it..." The same soft voice from that night sighed again. Why was this person sighing so much?
The curiosity in me peaked as I placed my fingers against the wall and tapped it once. But there was no response.
The next day, I decided to go a bit more casual with the whole teacher outfit thing. I toned down by wearing a simple red striped cardigan and khakis. I was
digging the whole next door neighbor look until I realized what I was doing. It was that same feeling again from high school when I was interested in this boy named Andrew and I would purposely dress attractively on the days I would see him. But...the him right now was a whole different him.
When I got there, surely enough Jiyong was somewhere else visiting someone and I was left alone with Taeyang.
He laughed ever so kindly and had these eyes that were filled with interest. His face was handsome and his hair made him even more cute. His braids were undone and a red beanie covered his messy frizzy hair with a few parts sticking out behind his neck.
After the lesson, I began to pack my stuff up to leave when he grabbed my arm.
"Uhh, Remi...ya*. Do you..." He looked straight at me with his twinkling eyes. "...want to have lunch with me?"
I tilted my head in response. "Well, Uhh Taeyang-shi..."
"Ahh no, um You should call me Youngbae oppa." He said shyly having a hard time keeping his eye contact with me.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-ya*: used after someone's name but is less formal and more casual

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Oh, well okay Youngbae...oppa." I grinned. Ohmygod. Was he asking me on a lunch date?? I would be delighted to break bread with him! I calmed myself down and instead I said, "I would love to have lunch with you."

The lunch was nothing fancy. Just the cafeteria food down in the first floor. But was it good food! All of it tasted homemade and delicious like how my mom used to make.
"So how did you even get a job in here?" Taeyang asked as he swallowed a bite.
"I have an aunt who works here and she asked if I could take on the job for it." I took a sip of water.
"Ahh~connections are good"
I shrugged.
"Well, I'll be here if you need any help" Taeyang smiled.
"Youngbae ya!" A guy came up to our table. He looked about in his late twenties and he was very skinny. He wore large rimmed glasses and a green and black hat. Overall he looked like a nerd, but he looked like a cool nerd.
"Ah Blo hyung!" Taeyang said after he wiped his mouth with a napkin.
The guy looked at me and gave a quick grin.
"Annyeong." He said as he waved, "Do you know where Jiyong is?"
"Uhhh... Jiyong went to visit someone today but he'll be back tonight or tomorrow. But why?" Taeyang asked
The guy took out his phone and looked through his calls. "I don't know, I wanted to ask him if I could record with him this Saturday but he doesn't answer."
Taeyang shrugged, "I have no clue then"
The guy pat Taeyang's back and waved a hand at me, "Alright then see ya. Enjoy your lunch."
We both said bye to him and I watched his back as he walked away.
When we were done eating, Huijoon came over and said hi.
"Remi-shi! Tomorrow there's a meeting for the tour at 8 am sharp. President Yang will be there and so will all of bigbang so make sure you come exactly on time."
"Okay, thank you for telling me" I said before he left.
    "Hey, I gotta go to the dance studios" Taeyang said as he looked at his phone. He looked at me with sad eyes. "So I guess this is goodbye."
"Goodbye Youngbae...oppa"
The corner of his lips curved into a small grin and before he turned around to leave, he gave me one of the world's sweetest things, a wink.
