Chapter 21

A Bang In The Heart

I opened the suctioned refrigerator and cool air flushed before me. My hands fluttered through the bottles of ketchup and mayo and bunch of left over crap. Shaking my head, I closed the door and opened the cabinets in hopes to find something decent. How is it that we have nothing to eat in this house? Why now of all times??
Blowing the bangs out of my face, I puffed as I finally found the box of cup ramen. Dang it! There was only one left! Ugh this would have to do.
Before leaving, I tucked the cup ramen under my arm and looked at myself in the mirror. Turning awkwardly at different angles, I tried to make sure I looked good enough. Heck no I did not.
My hair flung out in weird curls, my makeup was smudged and I looked like a wreck. I stuck my hair down as much as I could and stole Sua's beanie from the closet to cover it. I'm sorry Sua, this was an emergency. I had to see him.
Panting obnoxiously, I jumped out of my house, shutting the door behind me and walked up to his front door. I composed myself in the lady like manner that I usually had and took a deep breath.
I knocked softly at the door that read the numbers of 819.
The door opened a small crack to the bright yellow light that was pouring out of the house. A small shadow pulled over by the door.
Jiyong's face peeped out. His eyes were cautious as he looked around but they were tired. But his face had still retained the same handsome look that he always had.

The overwhelming feeling that I finally got to see him got my heart racing again. It seemed like it had been such a long time since I saw him.
Jiyong's golden hair still shone brightly and his eyes had the same sparkle. When he saw me, he raised his eyebrows almost as if he was in surprise.
"Oh Remi-ya. Annyeong" Jiyong looked around again outside with an insecure look on his face.
"Annyeong oppa..." I looked up at him and my eyes blinked. Looking down at my arm I realized why I was even out here. "... Oh yeah, I have this."
I handed him the one cup of ramen. He looked at it for a second and frowned. "Wait, this is it?"
"Well yeah, it's kind of all we have at the moment." I shrugged.
He read the label cautiously and smacked his lips to show his approval. Nodding at me with a something short of a smile. "Well anyways.." Jiyong pat my shoulder lightly "Gomawo*! I'll make good use of it."
I fussed with my hair and smiled, "No problem."
He awkwardly began to close the door and looked down, "Um, bye Remi. I'll see you maybe like next month or so."
Next month? That seemed so far away from now. But even so, I only let out a sigh and nodded with a firm smile, "Okay, see you."
The door shut and the last I saw of him was his small flick of his golden blond hair glimmering in the yellow light through the small crack.
I stood there in the damp moist air, in front of his door. There was no light now. It was dark and dim and just how I felt.

I turned around to my door and held up my limp hand to the door knob. Without any thought, I turned the doorknob, but it wouldn't turn.
"Wait a second. No way" I whispered out loud with a sense of panic to my voice. I jerked at the knob but it resisted to turn.
Holy crap. Holy freaking crap. I grabbed my hair and my mind turned blank. I had totally forgotten that this door locks whenever it closes!
Oh wow, aren't I embarrassing. I didn't even bring my keys out with me. Where the heck was I supposed to go now?
I sighed deeply and closed my eyes. A strange bright light lit up in the back of my head. I slowly turned around to the source and realized I was facing the door to the house of 819 again.
Should I? I walked close to the door and lifted up a wary fist.
Knock knock.
After about a few seconds, I heard fingers unlock the door and the door opened again, revealing the same blinding yellow light pouring out like a rainbow. Jiyong's face peeped out again like a little mole in a hole and ran his fingers through his hair.
"Oh annyeong." Jiyong said with a smile as if I hadn't been there just a few minutes ago.
I in my breath and bit my lips. Ugh this was going to sound so stupid. "Um, there's a problem... My door is locked." I pointed to my door.
Jiyong gave me a funny look and opened the door wider. "What do you mean it's locked?"
"I forgot that it locks whenever it closes."
Jiyong walked out of his house with confidence and grabbed my door knob. He jerked and turned the knob with passion. After several trials, he stopped and looked at me. "Yah... Call your friend. The one who lives with you."
"She's not around here right now, she's visiting her family."
"Yah, how do you even..." Jiyong said shaking his head and walked back to his house. He held the door open wide and gestured at me to come inside.
"Fine, just come in for now." He said hesitantly looking around.
I nodded quickly and walked into the light.
The house felt disorganized with shoes all over the place and few bags laying around in the room. The dishes were piled up and water was being heated on the stove. But it was still the same room that I had woken up to that night.
"Uhh.... It's messy right now because I'm leaving tomorrow. I just had to get the stuff I needed in this place." He scratched his hair and looked around awkwardly.
I laughed a bit. I never asked but why did he look so nervous? His hands fidgeted and his feet moved around quickly.
Jiyong held up the cup ramen and opened it. His eyes turned to my direction and he smiled nervously. "Are you hungry too?"
Come to think of it, I didn't have dinner when I came home. I looked down at my rumbling stomach and swallowed.

"Um I think I'm okay." I lied grasping my stomach.
Jiyong looked unconvinced and turned off the stove.
He looked around the room in frantic motions and finally found what he was looking for. After he put on his hoodie and hat, he grabbed a black leather wallet off the sofa table. He slipped on his black Nikes and finally gave a wide smile.
"Come on, let's go." He put his arm over my shoulder and pushed me out of the house, closing the lights behind us.
"W-wait where are we going?" I asked in confusion.
Jiyong looked down closely at my face with his mysteriously cool eyes.  "To buy some something to eat."
