After yesterday’s practice, Hannah had gone with Julia and Maria to the tanning salon. Maria misses the sun now when they are in rainy Seoul, and since she already had gotten a pretty tan during their time in Okinawa, Maria doesn’t want to get pale too fast. Hannah don’t think her own colour changes, but she didn’t expect it either with just one time at the salon, though she the next day notices that her skin colour looks a little better for the camera.

Hannah is at a photo shoot for NYLON magazine now in the morning together with Maria, posing for the camera with a gray background, dressed in black and having a bright light shine on them for the effects. Both girls have shoot together now in the morning, Maria has also done her solo and now it is Hannah’s turn. The photo shoot is focusing on jeans, which is embarrassing for Hannah because she doesn’t have that long legs like Maria has, but the stylists make it work with platform high-heel sandals (15cm heels!) and they compliment Hannah for having ideal legs, not model legs.

A part of her thinks it’s good she hasn’t been eating much these days, only because the y black shirt they want her to wear, they want to have ed almost all the way down to where the shirt is tugged in inside the jeans. She wears a black tube top underneath, it doesn’t do anything else than hiding her s, letting the ed shirt reveal some part of her stomach. Hannah had at least made the stylists in the dressing-room laugh when she was doing sit-ups before putting on this outfit. And now, she is posing very simply in the high heels, standing by the wall and trying to please the photographer. When she is done she goes to see the pictures, nodding at what the photographer tells her. He likes her body language and face-expression. While the two of them are going through that, staff is laying out a few magazines on the floor, where Hannah next will lie down to pose. It’s embarrassing, but Maria did some good poses before so Hannah is ready to do hers.

Lying on her stomach as if she is looking through the magazines, Hannah looks over to the side at the camera, just to have her face seen. Her hair is lying freely and the stylist keeps running back and forth from the screen to make her hair lie perfectly for the shoot.

“Look over your shoulder…” the photographer tells her and Hannah faces the wall before turning her upper-body around and she looks over her shoulder at the camera. All of the staff is looking at her, and she thinks that if the place didn’t have such a chilly air and if she wasn’t wearing so much make-up, it would be seen that she is embarrassed. Her face-expression stays good though, she gets to see that when she once again is going through the pictures with the photographer. She doesn’t comment, thinking it is embarrassing that they focus on her s-line and in those pictures she is lying down, though the photographer does mention that he likes her face when she looks over her shoulder like that.

Hannah smiles when she looks over her shoulder now again, hearing Maria’s voice come up to them. Maria is comfortable wherever they are, and now she is walking up to them together with some familiar boys. Maria is busy talking while they are busy greeting the staff. Hannah greets them too with a smile and nod before turning her attention back to the photographer who gets up from his seat when spotting the boys.

“Nice to meet you,” he greets the boys one after one, meeting each one’s eyes. Hannah smiles at the EXO members standing there; they seem so young and rookie-like when greeting the photographer who is 40+ and extremely professional after working with a lot of foreigners: Which is why he greets them by shaking their hands. “Is this all of you?” He points a finger at the boy, not counting up to all twelve wolves.

“No… We have five more members who aren’t done yet,” Chen answers with Luhan nodding next to him. Hannah smiles and looks away, stepping up to the stylist just to not have to witness the photographer’s amazement over a group with twelve members – twelve pretty boys in one group. He likes it. And he is fast to sort out which six of the boys that will start off the photo shoot for EXO, along with Hannah and Maria.

The other five members of EXO come before the photographer has chosen all of the members, and he is fast to point out the last ones and tell them where to stand. The boys get to take their places in front of the camera first, taking a few shoots before Hannah and Maria are added with the photographer guiding them to their place. Hannah steps quietly in between Luhan and Kai, the deer-looking Luhan looks down to see her high heels when she steps next to him, and it is almost as if he is avoiding being stamped on. Following the directions, Hannah lifts up her left hand on Kai’s shoulder, making sure to avoid touching him with her hand for some reason. She feels awkward for some reason, especially with Luhan on her right is older than her but he looks younger and Kai on her left is younger than her and … well, he doesn’t look older, he is just tall.

Maria is flawless though. She takes her position between Kris and Baekhyun – all of the EXO members the photographer sorted out are those with some kind of blonde colour in their hair (Hannah spotted that right away when seeing the EXO members lining up) – and Maria asks if she can’t just hold her arms around both boys instead of one, just because she know the way she asks that question is not how Koreans usually ask, but she does it as a joke and she has worked with the photographer before so he knows it; it is the EXO members she is joking with. Sehun is also standing among them.

The photographer steps back to his camera, giving a test shot first before giving the thumbs up to start. Hannah leans her head a little on the side, hoping her hand comes out well where it is on Kai’s shoulder. Kai is just standing with his hands in his jeans pockets, probably looking to be glaring at the camera, and she thinks Luhan is just looking at the camera. Little does she know that Luhan looks to be glaring more than Kai at the camera. And between them, Hannah has a soft neutral face-expression, which with the make-up fits the concept.

He wants Hannah to turn a little more towards Kai so she can put her right hand on her hip, to show off not just the jeans but her s-line better, and to keep her left hand on his shoulder. In some of the pictures she even leans the side of her head lightly on his shoulder, just because they are told to not move other than change tiny details for each frame. It’s tiring, especially as they are seven people to cooperate in front of the camera. Stylists keep running back and forth now as well, touching the boys’ hair or the girls’ outfits, and Hannah’s hand is frozen on Kai’s shoulder until she is told to take it down.

Once they get to see how the pictures turned out, Hannah is trying to hold in a smile when seeing in the pictures how her hand is probably the same in each frame, and she hides when seeing Kai smile from where he is looking at the pictures over Maria’s head – Maria had sat down on the chair next to the photographer while everyone else are standing up. She wonders if he had noticed how awkward she felt.

They continue with the photo shoot. Hannah is happy as long there is no kind of skin contact, but she does well even if it is. She is after all professional. During one of the shoots, Hannah is standing with Kai, Sehun and Tao. They are the maknae-line, you can say (Tao is the youngest in EXO-M while Sehun and Kai are of the same age in EXO-K), and Hannah is the youngest in 5 Pieces. Chanyeol is laughing on the side at her, because he is of the same age as Hannah. Hannah ignores him, but she makes a funny face just to not be seen as rude. Maria had also shoot with Suho and Kris, being the leaders of their groups.

“Is there a big age-gap between you?” the photographer is curious to know, as the others are teasing Hannah and he has time to ask because he is changing film in the camera.

“Hannah is two years older than the blonde kids,” Maria is fast to answer, though you can hear Xiumin say that Tao is just a year younger. Hannah puts her thumbs in her jeans pocket, waiting to begin the shoot, holding in a yawn by making it sound like a sigh. Kai chuckles next to her, and when Hannah looks up at him she sees him look away with a smile. She really wants to tell him to not laugh, a bad habit of her to say against people, but she is currently working; so she stays quiet.

“Okay, are you ready?” the photographer asks when his camera is ready. “I want laughter now; you are all friends, being the youngest in your teams… so smile and laugh for me.”

Chanyeol makes a weird noise to make it easier to laugh, and it makes them laugh actually. The photographer suggests Kai to put his arm around Hannah, and Sehun rests his elbow on Kai’s shoulder while having the other arm around Tao, and they continue to laugh awkwardly with Suho, Chanyeol and Kris making fun of them. It makes them continue to laugh so somehow it works though. The youngest are always made fun of it seems like, but Hannah guesses it is not her they are making fun of, all of the words and comments and noises are directed to the boys.

Her stomach takes a turn when Kai turns his head towards her, and she can almost feel how he breathes on her hair when he says something;

“I hope its okay that I copy your way with my hand.”

For a moment she panicked. Her whole head just spinning with questions; why is he doing that? Hannah doesn’t usually get all crazy to be spoken to, but she hasn’t done these kinds of photo shoots in a while and all she can think of is how the viewers will react. Fans are sensitive, and if she just looks at another guy they will say she is cheating on Jonghyun – their relationship has come out, she doesn’t forget that. It takes a few seconds for her to respond on what he actually said, and she sees that Kai’s hand that could comfortably rest on her shoulder is held the same way she had done on him earlier. She smiles wider when the photographer asks them to focus, and it is this weird confidence she gets without knowing where it came from when Hannah out of nowhere takes a hold on his wrist, posing more naturally. That keeps Kai quiet for a while.

He had made it sound as if she was scared to touch him, and Hannah actually isn’t scared. She just doesn’t want to be seen as a player. Though she goes against her own thoughts from time to time, just because of what he had said especially.

But he had noticed what she had done before with her hand. She was being careful, nothing else.

During the break, Hannah checks her cell phone in the dressing-room. Jonghyun keeps texting her whenever he has the time, he has even texted her three times in two minutes just to repeatedly say that he misses her, if she misses him and that he knows she misses him. She does miss him. And she misses him more when seeing the comments on twitter. They don’t change this weekend, it has been the same thing over and over again, and her whole page is filled with tweets from strangers talking about her sister and of what her sister said. Hannah can’t stop being angry about it.

“Hannah, you have to change your clothes,” she hear someone tell her and she nod while hurrying to write something. She has to write something, give her own response somehow. She doesn’t want to come out with a statement to the public the way her agency wants her too; it feels like she is hiding behind them if she does that. But answer on twitter? She doesn’t explain herself either; she is just angry and upset.

Later during the photo shoot, Maria takes a good picture of herself with Xiumin, Baekhyun, Chanyeol and Tao that she uploads on Instagram with the caption “photoshoot with a lot of fierce-eyed models, lol”.

Right after the photo shoot, the ladies head to Japan. Tonight they will perform [Secret Touch] on NHK Music Japan, but before that, they will make a special visit at the hospital. Emelia is already in Japan as she has since yesterday been filming her promotional video, but she is done by the time the other girls arrives so all five ladies go together.

A while back, a woman had come to 5 Pieces’ event in Japan, she had talked to Hannah and revealed that her daughter is sick in cancer at the hospital but they are both huge fans and even went to 5 Pieces’ Japanese concert earlier. Hannah had been touched when reading the letters of both the daughter and mother, and she had managed to squeeze in a visit to the hospital. The agency agreed to it as it is great publicity, just like Emelia had said when Hannah was worried they wouldn’t get to do it, and all five ladies wanted to do it as they all got to read the letters – well, the letters are in Japanese so Emelia and Hannah read it out for them.

They make sure no media is there, as none of them want it to seem like they only do it for publicity, and the girls are all smiling when the mother meets them by the entrance. Hannah gives her a hug in greeting, asking how she has been doing and the mother is all teary, saying she can’t believe they have come here while being so busy.

“It’s the least we can do,” Hannah tells her in Japanese before they go up to where the daughter is in bed.

“I told her you were coming, but she didn’t believe me,” the mother whispers when they are reaching the door to the room, Hannah smiles when seeing her not wanting to cry. Emelia holds the mother’s arm when stepping inside. Across the room by the window, a cute 24-year-old girl is lying under the hospital sheets, her head is bald but already by first glance she has the sweetest face.

“Michiyo-chan, there are someone here to see you,” her mother says in a low voice when walking up next to the bed (Emelia stays with her ladies) and she sits down on a chair that she must have been sitting on many times before, she puts her hand on her daughter’s arm. Her daughter looks up. She seems tired, her skin is pale and Hannah feels bad for coming there. Who is Hannah to visit a sick person, it’s not like she can cure cancer, right? It had seems like the best thing to come here, but now when she see the girl she wonders what she really is doing.

“Mom…” the girl whispers, her voice panicking and she turns to her mother after looking at the ladies.

“I told you, didn’t I?” her mother smiles widely.

Maria gives Hannah a push on the back, to have her say something. “Hi,” Hannah says and lifts up her head. She feels so silly. What should she say? She doesn’t like that her members are hiding behind her, so she walks up on the other side of the bed from where her mother is, sitting down on her heels to get in a better height to the girl in the bed. “We heard you are a big fan of ours, is that true?”

The girl just stares at her with big eyes, not even blinking even if she is starting to cry and Hannah smiles at her.

“Did you see the picture I took with your mother?” Hannah tries again in a low voice and the girl nods, her nose getting red from crying while her mother takes a napkin to wipe the tears. “I thought maybe you wanted something better than a picture, but I didn’t know what so we all came to ask you personally, if that’s alright?”

“I… I really love you,” the girl cries and Hannah smiles her widest before trying to give her a tiny little hug. Her mother is crying too and Maria has turned her back against them to wipe away her own tears. Emelia steps forward to greet the girl too.

A few days later, on July 17, 5 Pieces wake up early to go for the first day’s concert rehearsal. Since the moment they step out of the van at the concert venue, cameras surround them to film for Life of Pieces, their concert DVD and other things. Hannah has no track of the cameras at all; all she cares about when stepping out of the car is to bring all her things and to greet everyone politely. She is wearing a red short-sleeve logo print t-shirt and a pair of worn out distressed denim shorts, having her bag hanging over her shoulder she lowers her head when bowing to greet the camera crews they pass by on the way inside.

Surprise; fans are already outside the venue. Maria is surprisingly awake this morning, she turns around to wave at some fans cheering at 5 Pieces’ arrival and when coming inside her voice is heard through the corridor as she greets everyone loudly.

“Good morning, Jae Young Teacher!” Maria’s voice echoes right before her hand goes up in the air and she waves with her whole hand over to the male choreographer standing down the corridor. He waves his hand back dryly before disappearing inside the room he stood by, as he spotted the cameras following the ladies.

The girls walk inside their room, the room that will be their waiting/dressing-room for the rest of the week and start off getting comfortable in there. Hannah hangs off her bag before she walks over to the make-up table to see what flowers are there. She giggles when reading the note.

“Life of Pieces has sent the first flowers,” Hannah announces to the ladies and when turning around she recognizes the camera-woman filming her so she gives a big smile. “Thank you~”

The girls are warming up their voices and bodies for the day’s rehearsals, just a little simple because when they first sees the stage, they aren’t starting with the rehearsal but they will go through colours and spotlights and whatnot with the directors and choreographers.

But the stage is huge. Hannah is amazed that they performed their first concert here a year and a half ago. Has the venue gotten bigger? The stage is shaped differently this year compared to how it was for the first concert, and though the girls had gotten to see papers how the stage will be like during the planning, it is different to see it now. Now they feel like ants when walking below the stage, while when they saw it on paper it felt so distant and small. It is the main stage, of course, with two arms on the furthest right and left stretching out far forward, were they have hands (the hands are stages too, it doesn’t look like hands but the directors call it hands) that are smaller but still big enough to have the group perform on it, having a smaller arm reaching to the centre of the main stage, arms and hands, to where the heart is – a V-shape you could say those smaller arms are, facing the audience. It looks awesome. The girls actually applauded to the staff when seeing the stage, saying they have done a stunningly amazing job.

When going through different stage lightning they will use – for the ladies to know what they have – they also go through the smoke effects that will be used during the concert.

“We have tried it already, and we are trying it now with substitutes for you ladies,” the director explains with a smile, lightly waving his hand up at the concert where the smoke is arriving. “This is what will happen while the opening video is being played; smoke surrounds the whole stage while everyone is focused on the video, right? That looks good.”

The girls nod in agreement, currently in their focused mood to not miss that this is what their fans will see at the concert. A dark venue though, with a video playing; the lights are now, but Hannah is sure all of them are imagining it dark. The smoke will look good in the dark with spotlight shining it up. They can’t help but to laugh though when five people from the staff are on the stage, imitating 5 Pieces’ opening.

“How is that with the sound?” Emelia asks, looking at the director.

He asks in the microphone for the staff to turn on the music, for the ladies to know how it looks like. The staff on the stage pretends to dance and Hannah can’t stop laughing at them. She even sits down on a chair behind them from laughing so long and Julia follows her as she also is laughing. The staff is hilarious, playing 5 Pieces on the stage and everyone is laughing with them.

When 5 Pieces finally get to walk up on the stage, Maria makes a hilarious comment through her microphone;

“We haven’t even introduced ourselves yet.”

Several complaints from below the stage from the staff come by her comment, saying there is no need for the stars to introduce themselves. But Hannah jogs up to stand next to her members when Maria waves her over.

“We went straight to work without even introducing ourselves,” Maria says, totally ignoring the laughter from some of the staff. “Though a lot of us have worked together before, we would like to introduce ourselves to everyone, today on the first rehearsal day of the opening concert here in Seoul… Pieces of one-”

“Hello, we are 5 Pieces!” the girls greets brightly and giggly and bows down as the polite group they are. Maria continues; “So the five of us are the ones who will have all the attention on the stage during the concerts, and … Let’s all do well on this concert tour together! Thank you!”

She does a dramatic bow when the staff applauses the ladies for introducing themselves now at the beginning, politely as rookies usually do. 5 Pieces do it because they want to work well with the staff, and to begin like this is a good ice-breaker for those you haven’t worked with before.

There is a break before they have actually played any song; they have just gone through the steps and where to be during the first songs and such, not playing anything but singing on their own to know where they are.

Hannah reaches her tongue out tiredly when walking towards a camera in the corridor.

“I have walked around greeting everyone for twenty minutes,” she laughs to the camera-man. “Everyone has arrived by now, so… we went to greet everyone.”

She has walked around here and there, back and forth to greet staff, dancers, stylists, choreographers, camera crews and she has smiled and shook hands and exchanged words and with the dancers she has hugged and fooled around with. All the ladies are excited. The stage is awesome, the effects they have seen are amazing, and the crew working with them (staff and dancers and everyone) are just perfect.

Hannah walks by the camera to get inside the ladies’ room where Julia is fast to look up at her with big eyes that soften up after noticing it’s just her, but she still waves the youngest over.

“You have to write something,” Julia says and points down at the hand-size card the ladies have prepared. It isn’t just the first day rehearsal for their second tour; it is Carolina’s birthday. Hannah sits down on the sofa placed in the middle of the room, with a table in front of it with another sofa along the wall. She reads what the other ladies have written first before she takes the pen to write her own simple message to Carolina. On one side of the card, the ladies have written their short messages to Carolina while on the other side they have made the dancers and managers write their names, as they participate in the congratulation card for the mascot. Maria had drawn a shoe along her message, writing that she wants to kick her for good luck. Carolina will like that; Hannah knows it, as she won’t see the joke in it but more of a real supportive and loving message receiving luck from her friends.

Julia snatches the card from Hannah when Carolina’s voice is heard outside the room, and Hannah bursts out laughing at Julia’s face-expression when trying to find a place to hide the card. Hannah takes the card back, goes to a corner to finish writing before she hides it in her bag, turning around to smile at Carolina who comes inside the room.

“We are getting back to the stage now,” Emelia mentions by the door behind Carolina, telling them all to come. Hannah looks at Manager Lim when Carolina has walked out and she gives him the card so he can make the stylists write their names when they arrive.

Julia laughs when the two of them sneak out of the room to walk out to the stage, ready to begin rehearsals again.

Now, all the dancers are on place too and they go through song after song. They first go through the choreography and positions as well as changes if they want to spread out over the stages or if they need to re-do the song as they felt a mistake before they do it again with the ladies singing in the microphones, just sweeping through what they just went through and then they do it again but this time with the actual music, so they then can do more changes if it is needed to fit the music. What means with that is if they are on the main stage and are going to the stage in the middle (heart), but they figure out that the music is too fast so they don’t reach, they need to figure out what to do about that.

5 Pieces had begged to get an extra day to rehearse on the actual stage for this first concert, and instead of getting two days of rehearsals before the D-Day, they had managed to push the production to have it three days. It is a lot to go through on the first day and between rehearsals during the breaks, the four ladies are trying to plan a way to congratulate Carolina with a surprise.

After dinner, the ladies are warming up on the stage, simply singing their songs and fooling around while waiting for the rehearsal to begin again. Maria is the cue to it, but Carolina doesn’t notice it because Maria is looking down and in a low voice singing *happy birthday to you…*, but the mascot looks confused when the others join in. Hannah burst out laughing when Carolina sings along, all confused about it all, and Emelia holds suddenly covers to not have the birthday kid sing with them. Cameras for their Japanese DVD are there with them now too, as they are filming the ladies’ birthday.

Carolina only understands why everyone is singing the song when some dancers are bringing up a birthday cake.

“AH!” she bursts out and runs to the back, laughing and glancing at the cake when noticing the attention is on her. They are singing the song again, louder this time and more cheery while Carolina walks back up to them.

“HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CAROLINA!” they call out in chorus when the singing is done, and Emelia guides her to blow out the candles.

Carolina gives out a sound when seeing the birthday cake having it ‘happy birthday weird mascot Carolina’ written in Korean.

“I wrote it,” Emelia proudly tells her. “Now blow it.”

The weird mascot blows out the candles and she wipes with her fingers under her eyes away some invisible tears because she is aware of the cameras and when she is just about to hug all of them, Emelia grabs a handful of the cake and since she is standing right next to Carolina, she just smashes it up in her face and everyone burst out laughing loudly in shock.

A little later, Hannah steps up behind Julia who is talking to a camera. Hannah hugs her friend from behind, noticing the Japanese camera-man and she naturally starts to speak Japanese;

“It’s Carolina’s birthday!” Cheering, she laughs happily and Julia claps her hands. “We just ruined her birthday cake by throwing it in her face, but when she came backstage… she saw there were more cakes waiting for her. Hi-hi. So we have all shared a slice with everyone here.”

Julia nods, not even understanding what Hannah is saying but Hannah sounds happy so Julia guess it is something good.

“It is a good first day of rehearsals,” Hannah is nodding too.

But after eating a little cake and Carolina has wiped her face, they go back to rehearsals. Everyone satisfied and Carolina touched by the celebration even if it was short, they focuses on the concert rehearsals and they don’t stop for the day until it is around midnight, and the ladies aren’t going home by that time. They head to SM Entertainment to practice for tomorrow’s 20’s Choice Awards.

In the car on the way to practice, Hannah finds a short fan-cam of herself online. It is popular on the fan-sites of 5 Pieces, and a lot of them are asking about it ‘Why was Hannah like that at the airport?’

The video was taken on Sunday when 5 Pieces were done in Japan and were waiting to board the plane to go back to Korea, and Hannah remembers it well. The video shows Hannah’s back with Maria standing in front of her, and Hannah is leaning forward to rest her head on Maria’s shoulder while the leader puts an arm around her, looking to be saying something to her. Hannah in the video looks frozen in that position, and though only her back is visible she looks tired or exhausted – at least that is what fans are commenting. The video continues and shows another clip, the same fan had filmed when Hannah turned around to walk and she has her hand in her hair in a try to hide her face, and now when looking at it she thinks it looks like she was crying.

Fans speculates a lot from the video, while some are saying Hannah was tired from their heavy schedule others say she was being hated on the airport because of the recent articles about her family. After that SM Entertainment came out with the picture and story about 5 Pieces visiting a fan at the hospital, fans comments she was heartbroken because of that.

What actually happened was that she had hurt her leg during their performance, she thought she handled it well but when they reached the airport it was a small group of fans that shouted that she deserves to get hurt the way she treats her family and fans. Hannah had wanted to cry for hours after meeting the fan at the hospital (the girl had held her hand during the whole hotel visit, even in the picture for SM, Hannah still held her hand), and she couldn’t help but to get teary at the unfair treatment – she had hided her face with Maria’s help to not start cry. It wasn’t that she felt bad for herself at that time; she was just exhausted over hearing others complain about her. Hannah is happy no article has come out about it, because what would it say there? Maria rolls her eyes tiredly. “We have decided that too.”

“Then it’s just to start practice.”

The girls will perform those five songs, parts of them, before a cool remix for [Black & White] starts with dancers marching up over the stage and they will also perform [Daze]. It will look good.
