The familiar melody is played on the piano, a soft and sad melody. Taemin is sitting by the piano on the stage, his face soft and eyes looking down at his hands playing the melody and at times he looks up at the sheets in front of him or a little to the left to see out over the stage where Hannah is standing. Sweaty and tired from performing with 5 Pieces, her leg still hurting, she still tries to calm her fast heartbeat by closing her eyes, breathing in while listening to the melody to calm her self, easily getting in the mood. Slowly she brings the microphone to her lips, and she opens her eyes to look out over the audience when starting to sing in a low voice.

It’s the song that shook Korea and fans of 5 Pieces all around the world; Hannah’s [I CRY/나는 운다]. The song is a sad ballad, the lyrics written by Hannah and as a song written and performed from her heart, she has heard for almost a whole year now how this one song changed her image totally. Hannah revealed a few years back that she had suicide thoughts before coming to Korea, but by having friends (the ladies in 5 Pieces) she was able to go through each day, and also coming to Korea changed her thoughts of life. Hannah hasn’t wanted to die for a long time now, but all of a sudden towards the end of 2011 she was feeling so down and bad that she had to write down what she felt. The more she thought and wrote, the deeper it got, and as a result it was this song. [I CRY] got a lot of attention mostly for the music video where Hannah endlessly cries, dressed simply in a big shirt and bare legs; the music video is beautiful, and attention was given to the message of this song.

For most live performances of this song she has performed it with someone playing the piano. Carolina from her group has done it a few times, but most of the times it has been Taemin. He looks handsome playing the piano, and as the youngest in each group they are close in age and they have a good friendship. SM Entertainment thought that if someone outside 5 Pieces was going to play the piano for Hannah, it was going to be him. And it has been. His soft face expression matches Hannah’s sad one as she starts to sing the chorus, her voice helpless, so good and fitting for the song.

Hannah’s favourite thing about this song is because wherever she has performed it, the audience has seemed to enjoy it. For the first time during her time in 5 Pieces, a whole audience with fans to other artists has looked to like the song. They performed the song at some of the SM Town concerts last year, and for the first time Hannah felt that the whole audience was getting the same emotion when she was on the stage. Normally when 5 Pieces performs there are a bunch of fans to the other artists that don’t like them and always shows their disapproval, but when she performed [I CRY] at the SM Town concerts, the whole audience seemed to sing along at some parts. Now too, when standing on stage in Malaysia, fans of k-pop in the audience (not just 5 Pieces and SHINee, but many other artists too) and she can see a fan holding a CN Blue sign singing along right in front of the stage.

Calmly she sings *Mmmm, woah~* after the chorus her eyes teary as she thinks of the lyrics, of the audience and the melody from the piano.

She can feel getting dry at this time, still continuing to sing emotionally like she always does for this song. She has forgotten about her leg now, even if it is still stinging through her whole leg, and all she thinks of it the song she is performing, emotionally singing with a good voice.

The next chorus coming up Taemin is singing with her, like a background voice. The audience cheers when hearing his low voice. Their voices melts in together, Hannah’s voice stronger and higher though sad and emotional, and her voice almost cracks at one part, making her soften her voice a little when singing the loud adlibs while Taemin continues to sing the chorus.

The melody from the piano is softening up, each key pressed on the piano heard and Hannah quickly sings the end of the song, lowering her head.

*One last look

She bows when Taemin has pressed the final keys, the song ends and the stage goes dark for Hannah and Taemin to get off the stage and for the dancers and Maria to take their positions for [Me, Myself & I], the audience keep screaming and clapping their hands for the song that just ended before doing the same to welcome the song that is coming. Hannah walks off the stage with her head low, not walking that fast because of her leg, and when getting off the stage she finds Manager Lim right next to her when she gives the microphone to a staff member. Taemin gives her a pat on the back before disappearing, probably going to the backstage room but she still manages to thank him for the performance before he leaves.

“How are you feeling? Does it hurt a lot?” Manager Lim asks with his voice filled with worries, glancing over his shoulder at the doctor who steps up to them. The doctor is Korean, and he asks her basic questions when guiding her to sit down, making sure to look at her leg when she walks and Hannah’s manager helps her to walk too. Maria’s song is clearly heard from the speakers, the audience cheering over her performance on the stage and making it difficult for Hannah to hear what the doctor is saying, hearing her manager repeat it next to her ear so she can hear what he says. All of a sudden a cold hand is pressing on her leg when her manager is talking and she gives out a shout of pain followed by a glare towards the doctor. He had bent her left leg, and over her shout he asks her if it hurt a lot.

“Did I scream because I liked it?” she asks him in an annoyed tone, which Manager Lim tells her not to do. “I said I’m fine, Appa.”

“The ladies have changed the high heels in to sneakers, and you will do it too before going up to perform [I Love You]. If your leg is alright, otherwise you won’t step back up on that stage,” Manager Lim informs her and he ignores her when she gives him a glare.

“It doesn’t hurt that much,” Hannah tells both the doctor and her manager, letting the doctor do his job and a minute later she is getting into sneakers and wiping the sweat with a glare at her manager, drinking loads of water to be able to sing another song live. The doctor said nothing is broken or sprained but that her leg might hurt for a few hours, and saying that if it isn’t over in the morning she should go to the hospital – Hannah got to decide if she could handle performing another song, and of course she decided to perform. Her leg hurts constantly, not as much as it did on stage but instead of the pain to come only when she leans on that leg; it is a small stinging pain constantly in her leg, bearable.

What else can she do? It’s just her manager who doesn’t want to worry that she might hurt herself more if she dances, but Hannah gets back up on stage with her members after Maria’s solo, the ladies performing the cute song [I Love You] as a special song in Malaysia. It’s fun performing a cute song, the ladies fooling around a little, and Hannah taking it careful but trying to not be obvious with her leg.

Hannah is standing with some of the other artists on the side of the stage, waiting to get the signal to head up on the stage to do the ending as well as for the final, biggest award to be presented of Golden Disk Awards. Carolina standing next to her is excited to head up on the stage again, and Hannah is excited too even if her leg is still hurting. Performing [I Love You] did go well, she doesn’t regret it because they had fun and the audience seem to definitely know the song as they were even more excited, but the constant pain in her leg makes her almost not able to feel her foot; which means when she is walking she isn’t really sure if her foot is in the air or if it has been put down on the floor. But it is better when she is distracted, like when they performed on stage or like now; having FT Island’s drummer Minhwan standing and talking to Hannah and Carolina with some inserted comments from Seunghyun is good distraction when waiting to get up on the stage.

Seunghyun gives out a groan when he is pushed forward and the others laugh as Honggi pops up behind him, his hands on Seunghyun’s shoulders that had pushed him, saying they are heading up. Hannah gives a fast glance out on the stage, seeing the idols on the other side are starting to head up and she is fast to start follow Seunghyun and the others standing on her side up the stage. For a second she had forgotten about the pain in her leg so on the first step she didn’t walk as careful as she has been doing since she fell, but lucky her she is surrounded by friends. Minhwan grabs her arm when noticing how her blonde head is starting to lean forward, getting further down as she was about to fall, and he smiles friendly when she looks up to confirm who helped her.

“Thanks,” she whispers.

Minhwan says something but she can’t hear what it is, but neither does it seem to matter as they still walk up with the others to stand in a line across the front of the stage among with everyone else. He let go of her arm before they stop next to the others; Hannah stands between Minhwan and Julia, and she waves to the audience to follow Julia’s movements and the next second she is blowing up her cheeks and does a v-sign with her hand next to her face, leaning towards Minhwan who had done it towards her, the two youngest in the two groups poses like that cutely to some fans in front of the stage. The two of them show off their cuteness a lot when they are together; Hannah usually just imitates Minhwan and they have fun like that. Minhwan laughs when seeing how the girls in front of them in the audience are screaming and jumping because of their cute pose and Hannah smiles too; this is great distraction.

The man to represent the disk daesang (best album) award continues to talk while the idols are taking their positions on the stage and waving to the cheering audience. The awards were told beforehand, so all those on stage know who will win with the best full-length album of 2012. Everyone on the stage stays quiet when the man introduces the award, waiting to hear who the winner is while the audience is cheering out on whoever their favourite artist is. Hannah can feel butterflies in her stomach now, her arms almost shaking strangely as it is getting closer.

“…5 Pieces!” the man says through the microphone and especially some voices in the audience are clearly head over others in the loud cheering.

Hannah had no idea of how Maria got over to the other side of the stage, but now when stepping back to go with her members to the centre, she sees Maria getting hugs and applauses from members in Super Junior and EXO on the other side. The youngest smiles and bows towards FT Island, her smile friendly but her bowing polite since they after all are their seniors, and Carolina happily takes her hand when walking by her to bring her along to the group gathering in the middle.

Hannah didn’t expect to receive the best award, and if they hadn’t found out about it before she would be standing like a question-mark and wonder how this could be possible, not able to realise this is not a dream. It feels like a dream now too, though she has been able to melt the news a little before going up on stage. She smiles when looking at Maria trying to not smile too wide when accepting the award from the man and the whole group gathers behind her, bowing to the man as well as the other idols closest to them. Members of Super Junior goes up behind 5 Pieces to clap their hands happily in the air and Hannah keeps bowing towards them, her undying smile is big and she looks out at the front to see Emelia being the one getting a band around her neck, shaking hands with the man and KARA’s Nicole is heard asking 5 Pieces to say their acceptance speech. Maria’s laugh is heard in Hannah’s ear when receiving a hug, the ladies are really happy and Hannah hugs the leader lightly before getting out of the hug as Maria has to motion for Julia or Carolina to speak since the two of them are holding microphones. Hannah has no idea of where the microphone comes from since a few seconds ago they weren’t holding anything, but it isn’t really a question she wonders much about as she is too busy to step forward with Maria’s hand on her back. Hannah stands a little behind Carolina, who takes the front to speak with Julia standing on Carolina’s right side and Maria next to Hannah on Carolina’s left. Emelia walks by behind them, putting her arms around Julia and Hannah’s shoulders.

All five of them are smiling, standing close together and hopefully not looking like smiling fools; but they wouldn’t care if they looked like smiling fools since their smiles are filled with happiness. Hannah smiles wider when thinking of the recent articles about 5 Pieces being “Asian-Wannabes” and all the bad comments about it, remembering of their debut when they were chased off stage because anti-fans would be screaming horrible words during their performances so staff had to guide them off the stage, and then thinking of anti’s standing outside their apartment to throw fruit and scream at them to head back to Sweden, reminding herself of 5 Pieces’ first solo concert; every city they visited there were so many fans that requested to have a second or third day of the concert, remembering how fans in Bangkok had been singing until the ladies started to cry on stage, so moved to see thousand of people wanting more of 5 Pieces. And now they are receiving awards. She has never received so many awards as she did in 2012; for her solo song [I CRY], for 5 Pieces’ album and song [Black & White], and for their group when receiving the award for Artist of The Year. And now they are receiving Best Album Award at the absolute biggest music award show in Korea… it’s amazing how all these things have happened in just four years.

“Thank you,” Carolina starts off saying happily and she waves up the trophy in the air when Maria hands it to her. “We are really honoured to accept the Disk Daesang…”

Hannah won’t stop smiling while Carolina continues to talk (as good as she is on doing the acceptance speech) but Hannah still gets teary even if she knew they would receive the award, just because she is reminded of all the people that have doubted and bashed the group while so many more people have been supported and loved them.

She turns her head towards Maria, seeing that their leader is getting teary too while looking out over the audience. Maria puts both arms around Hannah’s waist to hug her when noticing Hannah close to tears too, whispering that she didn’t think she was going to cry and Hannah keeps smiling, whispering that she doesn’t want to ruin her make-up. Maria laughs at that, seeing Super Junior’s Kangin stand behind Hannah and since Maria has her head by Hannah’s shoulder she looks at Kangin who steps up to pat her on the head like an older brother. He is smiling like one too, a proud older brother. Maria starts crying when looking at him, so happy that her group have gotten so far that they even receives the best award at the best show, so happy that the idols they five years ago were watching on their computer in bad-quality videos are today on the same stage.

Julia gets to say some words too when Carolina is done, Hannah looking at her friend from behind, seeing Julia’s profile with cheeks getting slightly red from both the hot weather and the tears she is holding back – Hannah at least think she is holding back tears.

“I would like to thank all our families, who from afar and close are showing us that they believe is us even if they doubted us in the beginning. For always sticking next to us, our managers; Chunho Appa, Sung Young Unnie, Ji Young Oppa and Mr Park… Also to Kim Ji Hwa for working hard and never getting tired of us, Park Hyekyung and Pete – our gangsters – and also Mi Young Unnie, Chan Hyo Unnie and Yong Hyun Oppa thank you…”

Maria has let go of Hannah, standing there and wiping away her tears that doesn’t stop falling. Hannah isn’t crying yet, she is trying to hold back her tears even if they are blocking her sight in her eyes. Emelia changes place with Hannah to help Maria wipe away the tears, so Hannah steps up to put her arms around Julia’s waist from behind, hiding her face behind Julia’s head, tears now falling down her cheeks. Julia pats her on the arm while continuing to talk. Since Carolina already have thanked all the staff from SM Entertainment, including the artists (Super junior and SHINee had been jumping and cheering behind and next to them when being mentioned, EXO doing the same on the side), Julia doesn’t really have that many left to mention and feeling Hannah’s arms around her she leans a little to the side and puts the microphone by her shoulder for Hannah to say something.

“Um… Also a thank you to my little brother, Kyung Ho,” Hannah adds quietly with a blocked throat before Julia remembers more to say and stands straight again.

“And Puzzle! We are always grateful for your existence and love and support and that you have helped us – been part of us – so we together could stand here today. Thank you so much!”

“5 Pieces, I love you!” Carolina cheers while Julia turns around to give Hannah the microphone, to let her say more.

“Um…” Hannah breathes when getting the microphone, awkwardly laughing while wiping her tears with her free hand and the audience screaming loudly at them. Julia is smiling when looking at her. “5 Pieces will continue to work hard and do better and … and I would want to thank Malaysia for welcoming us so warmly and I want to thank 5 Pieces that I love with all my heart and also to all our friends, seniors and juniors here on stage, and all the people that loves 5 Pieces and our music… I love you Puzzle and 5 Pieces, thank you so much!”

She bows at the end, stretching her arm out for Julia to take the microphone again so she can wipe away the tears. Julia takes the microphone at the same time as Emelia takes the microphone Carolina has been trying to hand over to one of the two that yet haven’t spoken. Emelia’s low voice isn’t crying as Hannah’s had been doing, it is rather having an ironic, cool tone in it at first.

“And we would also want to thank all the antis for giving us so much attention and searching our name. Even more I would deeply love to thank from the bottom of my heart, Puzzle, for always staying by our side and making us realise what we love to do is what we always do. THANK YOU! Tack! ありがと! 谢谢！ Danke! Je vous remercie! 감사합니다! Pieces of One!”

“5 PIECES!” the girls cheers loudly, happy and crying.

Emelia boasted by saying ‘thank you’ in English, Swedish, Japanese, Chinese, German, French and Korean – the seven first languages that pops up in her head and she receives loud cheers for it. The moment they are done, Emelia turns around, letting Nicole read off the ending talk and Emelia wraps her arms around Carolina and Julia to bring the group in for a hug. Julia has been standing with Hannah who has constantly been wiping the tears while trying to not ruin the make-up after talking, but she joins in the others that gathers closer to Maria for the last piece to join in. Laugh, crying and hugging – that is what they do. They laugh more when members of Super Junior start to cheer them on again and the girls break out from the hug to bow and receive the congratulations from their seniors. Hannah keeps her head low at first while still trying to make sure her make-up is alright and she looks up only when someone tells her too, and Jonghyun is standing in front of her (her back facing the audience, having her members and Super Junior in the way), having an idiot’s smile in his face and his thumb touches below her left eye to fix the make-up and tears for her. She smiles shyly when meeting his eyes, feeling her cheeks burn by his touch. Jonghyun thought it would be okay to do so since he had seen Kangin do it on Maria.

Emelia pops up next to them, handing over a microphone to Hannah that she received from a staff – Emelia was holding two microphones, so she keeps one for herself – and Emelia then hugs Hannah while Jonghyun asks her quietly if her leg is still hurting.

“It’s okay,” Hannah answers over Emelia’s arm, smiling at him before he starts to cheer with his hands in the air, stretching up so he maybe can be seen from the front when Nicole has finished talking and 5 Pieces’ [Black & White] starts to play.

Maria hits Key on the arm when he jokes with her, asking if she is crying and she says angrily that she is allowed to cry – not embarrassed at all that she is crying tears of happiness. He then hugs her with a smile because Maria doesn’t stop crying.

“Thank you!” Julia cheers to the audience, now being the one holding the trophy, holding it up happily. With the back of the hand that holds the microphone she wipes off a tear from her cheek after thanking the audience and it follows with her starting to jump to their song when Yesung and Shindong gets next to her.

“Black & White!” Carolina screams out in the microphone right before the first verse is about to start, the music making the stage feel like it is jumping.

Maria is holding her microphone in her hand, and it is like this button being pressed when she hears what part of the song it is. She is the first one to sing, and this button is pressed so she ignores the fact that she is crying and she starts to sing in her amazing voice, smiling up at Eunhyuk who had wanted to congratulate her with a hug ends up laughing because Maria suddenly takes a huge step forward to get at the very front (though not standing in the centre of the stage but a little to the side) and she opens her free hand widely just as in the choreography, though it does look pretty strange to see her do it with just idols standing around her instead of the members and dancers also dancing along. She lifts her chin up high, staring at the camera filming her as if she isn’t crying at all – the diva princess of 5 Pieces has no stopping. Eunhyuk cheers behind her over her excitement and Donghae is laughing and clapping his hands too along with others.

Emelia has stepped forward with her arm around Hannah’s shoulders, looking like the cool rapper she wants to be. Her part in the middle of Maria’s is short, but she always manages to make it a memorable short part.

*Tell me what’s wrong*

Hannah is smiling widely, the tears have calmed down and she just feels really sweaty because of the hot weather, and she is excited and happy hearing [Black & White] being played with all the artists on the stage. Some of the idols are pretending to dance along to the song, and Hannah looks really happy when looking behind her and Emelia, seeing that the members of Super Junior and EXO are excitedly either singing/dancing along or jumping with their hands in the air. Emelia starts to jump too and Hannah tries to do it too, just to feel the pain in her leg, so she stops. Carolina loves to do adlibs, screaming out in different tones she thinks matches the song and she is jumping crazily with some of the members in Infinite with Donghae walking over in front of them, looking at them as if he is judging them. When Julia is singing her part, Donghae waves for Carolina to come along and when he starts walking out towards the extra stage and Carolina is fast to run out with him, others following along after them.

Hannah is standing there like an idiot, smiling and glancing at Emelia when her friend leaves her side. Emelia walks by behind her to follow some EXO members and Onew out on the extra stage with everyone else, and when Hannah first looked over her shoulder to see Emelia leave, she caught eye with Taemin who jumps up to her with a smile.

“Do you want to sing?” she asks him and shows the microphone in her hand.

He shakes his head, smiling. “I can do your kick, and you can sing,” he answers. But then when Hannah’s part comes, he still puts his hand on hers that is holding the microphone to lean it over to his mouth, singing the first line before he pushes it back to Hannah’s mouth with a laugh for her to sing the rest. She starts to sing, smiling at Taemin and to Kai and Lay standing next to him. All three boys pretend to do the popular dance (maybe not pretend, but it is some weird dance that is supposed to maybe perhaps be the same dance that Hannah does), and she guesses that they are just making fun of her since she knows that is one of Taemin’s favourite things to do with Hannah.

She laughs happily when all three of them – and also others on the stage – tries out Hannah’s kick. In the actual choreography, Hannah does a sidekick, but those next to her just kicks all differently and crazily. She continues to sing the chorus after, singing it along with her members that are going out to the extra stage, and she is smiling at Taemin who with one arm hugs her briefly to congratulate for the win and he whispers to her “come” as they are going out on the extra stage to the others. When reaching the middle of the main stage, where the long stage goes out to the extra stage, Hannah keeps smiling at Honggi who runs from the other side, all jumpy and excited and he doesn’t care at all that she is singing the chorus with the others because he runs up right in front of her while also singing it and he moves his head close to be heard in the microphone too. Taemin, Kai and Lay keeps walking out on the other stage while Hannah lets Honggi take over the singing, even letting him take the microphone from her before she walks with him out on the stage, a few of the other idols around them. Honggi is happily singing to 5 Pieces’ song (his voice is so good), jumping a few meters in front of Hannah excitedly before he stops when the chorus is over, turning around to look at the laughing Hannah and he reaches out the microphone to return it before he strangely tries to dance to the song, making her laugh anew. Hannah just walks, not jumping or dancing or running like everyone else, not even waving crazily that she often does on stages like this. Her leg hurts and it makes her not even walk that fast, but on stage you don’t have to run or jump, you can walk slow – as long as she isn’t limping, that is what she doesn’t want to show.

Honggi smiles when he stops dancing, hearing Carolina starting to sing her verse and also some cheers from others on the stage holding microphones. He walks next to Hannah, waving his hand to the audience and still jumping a little excitedly. She wants to do it too, but all she does is smiling like an idiot, still feeling the traces of tears in her eyes and she waves too, not as crazily as Honggi but still happily.

When coming up to the extra stage, Honggi disappears to probably jump crazily with others – Hannah spots Maria being part of the crazy idols on stage – and the youngest instead sings only the parts she usually sings while at times bowing to faces that turns towards her when passing by or something. Jonghyun is running back and forth, and he sees Hannah standing behind everyone else when running across the extra stage another time so just when he is about to run by behind her he takes his hand by her waist to stop himself and he turns himself around to face her, asking why she isn’t taking the front – 5 Pieces won, she should be at the front.

“I’m enjoying everyone’s backs,” she answers as a joke and gives him a half-hug in happiness before he helps her to step forward and get between someone.

Jonghyun stands behind her, smiling at Kangin and Luhan who Hannah now are standing between and Jonghyun leans his arm out over Hannah’s shoulder to wave to fans. Hannah follows to wave, not forgetting to sing during her parts – it is a mess in the singing because Carolina sings like all the time, and then there are other idols singing at times too (like Super Junior) and no one cares about any order at all – and it is so much fun. Hannah keeps laughing when Emelia’s rap comes, and Hannah can see from the side how Emelia steps down to where the loudspeakers are, followed by Eunhyuk and the two of them are rapping in each microphone to the song, receiving cheers from the audience and laughter from those on stage.

Hannah is having so much fun, even if she isn’t jumping around or moving much, but she keeps smiling and laughing and waving to some fans and singing and laughing some more because everyone on the stage seems to be having just as much fun. Maria even pushes Jonghyun away so she can come up to Hannah, the two girls hugging and Maria laughing and shaking in happiness before singing along to the song while facing Hannah who though tries to sing a little too just ends up laughing, and Maria gives Hannah the trophy that the members have been handing between each other to let all five ladies hold it. Kangin is still standing next to them, and he puts his arm around Maria before Yesung comes to put both his arms around Hannah and Maria and he seems to get overly excited when Hannah reaches out the microphone to him.

Once the song comes to an end, Eunhyuk calls proudly out;

“We are SM Town!”

It’s like a second when he says that you forget; is this SM Town concert? And Hannah even glances around to make sure she hasn’t gotten totally confused, but she does notice that the whole front of the stage is of the SM Town family – Super Junior, SHINee, 5 Pieces and EXO. She looks so happy standing there, linking arms with Maria and waving with her hand to fans, holding on tightly to the trophy, nodding along to the others talking and then bowing.

She loves standing on the stage; it is what she loves the most with her life because it feels like nothing is wrong.
