Jealousy?

“So, what were you doing before I called you yesterday?” Sungyeol asked Woohyun. He was a little worried. He didn’t want to hear that he had interrupted something important. He felt as if he always burdened the elder.

Woohyun looked deep in thought and hesitated before replying, “I was just with Sunggyu. Don’t worry too much about it Sungyeol.”

Sungyeol’s eyes widened. “You were with Sunggyu?”

Woohyun raised his eyebrow. “Yeah, what about it?”

Sungyeol looked down, feeling guilty. “I’m sorry for calling you,” he mumbled, “I must have been such a bother.”

Woohyun rolled his eyes and scoffed. “Hey, you were hurt. You’re my best friend Sungyeol. It’s fine. Don’t you dare call yourself a bother again.”

The younger sighed but gave Woohyun a small smile. Best friend…am I happy with that?

After driving Sunggyu home, the Myungsoo saw the elder immediately fall asleep on the couch. Myungsoo chuckled, looking at his boss, who was so full of energy just a few minutes ago. He went upstairs, got a copy of Sunggyu’s schedule, and a blanket.

He wrapped the blanket around Sunggyu, stopping right in front of the elder’s face, just to stare, before standing up and moving to the couch next to him.

Myungsoo then spent the night memorizing Sunggyu’s schedule, occasionally taking glances at the elder sleeping, before he eventually fell asleep himself.

Sunggyu woke up to some yelling, his neck feeling a little sprained.

“What do you think you were doing? You let my son just sleep on the couch!? Do you know how important he is? Do you think he should be hurting his neck by sleeping on the couch?! What’s wrong with his bed?!”

Sunggyu rubbed his eyes and looked behind the couch to the area by the stairs, where the noise was coming from. He was surprised to see his father there…harshly chiding his assistant.

Myungsoo lowered his head, feeling terrible. He’s right…I should’ve just carried Sunggyu upstairs. I’m not fit for this job. I can’t even keep Sunggyu well.

“Chairman Kim?” Sunggyu called out, standing right behind his father. He saw the frightened look in his assistant’s eyes and felt guilty, the small pain in his neck forgotten.

His father turned around, anger still evident in his stare. “What is it Director Kim? You should be getting ready for work now.”

Sunggyu took a deep breath before answering his father. “I’d appreciate it if you would not scold my assistant. If he is at fault, I would be the one to chide him. However, for this incident, he is not at fault. You cannot expect him to know what to do if I were to fall asleep somewhere that is not my own bed. He has not served me long enough. Moreover, he was not officially my assistant yesterday. Today is the day that he will start serving me. Scold him if, and only if, he makes a mistake from now on.”

After his small speech, Myungsoo stared at Sunggyu in pure awe. Sunggyu was standing up for him. He was fascinated by the professional tone in Sunggyu’s voice and couldn’t help but smile inwardly at the look on Chairman Kim’s face. He was surprised as well.

Chairman Kim sighed but tried to keep his facial expression composed. “Very well then. Get ready for work. Your assistant starts today apparently.”

He nodded and then started to head upstairs with Jungryul trailing behind. Jungryul smiled in his head. Sunggyu cares more than he thinks he does.

Myungsoo stared at his boss, worried about having burdened Sunggyu again.

“I-I’m sorry. I really should have carried you off to bed. I was up all night-“

“It’s fine,” Sunggyu interrupted.

He gave Myungsoo a small smile and started to walk to the stairs to get ready. He stopped by Myungsoo and gave him a pat on the shoulder. “Come on, let’s go get ready. We have a big day ahead of us.”

Myungsoo nodded, determined to become the best assistant Sunggyu ever had. “Yes Director Kim!” he yelled, saluting him jokingly.

Sunggyu chuckled and Myungsoo’s eyes lighted up.

Woohyun stared at his small stack of paperwork and sighed. There wasn’t much for him to do today. There was nothing for him to focus on. He couldn’t help but let his mind wander to the director of Kimi Co. He ran his fingers through his hair, his thoughts about how the date could’ve gone go through his mind. He wondered what Sunggyu did after he had left.

Finishing his work quickly, he got up from his desk and called in his secretary.

“Yes Director Nam?”

“Tell my father I’ve finished for the day. I’ll be going out.”

After his secretary left, he smiled to himself. He was going to pay Sunggyu a visit.

While driving Sunggyu to work, Myungsoo found himself constantly looking back, catching quick glimpses of the elder.

“Is everything alright?” Sunggyu asked.

“W-What?” the younger stuttered, surprised.

“You keep looking back here…” Sunggyu mumbled, his voice trailing away. Maybe I was just imagining it?

Myungsoo blushed, embarrassed that he was caught. “I-I wasn’t…” he lied quietly. He made sure not to look back again until they got to Kimi Co. Headquarters.

By the time they got to the building Myungsoo was already missing Sunggyu’s face. He knew it was a little weird, always wanting to look at the elder, but he couldn’t help it. After getting out of the car, Myungsoo rushed over to Sunggyu’s door and opened it for him, bowing slightly and not forgetting to say “Director Kim”.

Sunggyu got out of the car, carrying his suitcase and smiled. Myungsoo’s getting the hang of this, he thought happily. Myungsoo took the suitcase from Sunggyu’s hand and the two of them walked into Kimi Co. Headquarters.

The secretary greeted Sunggyu and his assistant with a smile as always. Sunggyu noticed that the secretary’s eyes lingered a bit too long on Myungsoo. An uncomfortable feeling ran through him and he immediately slowed down so that he was now behind Myungsoo.

“Walk faster,” he whispered a bit sharply.

The younger then rushed to the elevator, remembering to press the ‘up’ button since Sunggyu’s office was on the seventh floor.

When they entered the elevator, Myungsoo pressed the button for ‘7’ and smiled to himself. He was actually a little proud. He managed to remember everything so far. He hoped that nothing would go wrong that day.

Sunggyu glanced at the younger, wondering why he was smiling so brightly. What was that feeling just now though? Could it possibly be jealousy? No, he thought, it can’t be. Can it?

He looked back at Myungsoo, who was still smiling to himself. Could it really be jealousy?

LOL oh my gosh. i never like doing/seeing those awkward endings that try to cliffhang (is that a word) the end of a chapter.
