The very beginning..

Tomboy Me, Beautiful You

Welcome to Kington Seoul high. A place full of good students with squeaky-clean carrier backpacks and big folders slung across their shoulders. The lockers and halls were clean, and bright, and gave off a cheerful atmosphere. There was no issues involving the toilets, and there was no such thing as ual harassment. Everything was perfect, the teachers were professional students that came back to teach to their donsaengs. Everyone is happy, no one swears and they all have respect for each other. Everything is just perfect…

Or so you thought, before you joined the school, one week ago.

You walked across the campus, your bag slung coolly around your shoulder as you adjusted your cap, which you had put on messily this morning, and was threatening to fall. You had only been here for one week, but you could tell that everything people were saying about this school was totally a lie. Whether they were just lying for tourists’ benefits or they had a good illusion about it that you didn’t know. All those rumors had been thrown back in your face the moment you and your twin sister had entered this school.

‘ Right’ your twin, Hae, stopped in front of the building, which was covered with plenty of dust and dirt. She crossed her arms over her fake chest and looked around, trying to see if there were any people around you. She relaxed a little when she noticed that no one was around.
‘ No speaking to each other, no talking, no looking, no bumping, keep your distance and-“
“And make as if I don’t know you, I know, you don’t have to say it every ty day’ You finished for her snappily while you clutched your skateboard in your other hand. It had been the last gift given by your mother before she fled abroad with her supposed sweetheart, leaving you two with your dad to take care of you. Too bad, dad was a drunkard, and since he didn’t have anywhere to stay, he had made you two girls move to this area of Seoul, one week ago. But it was enough, to make you realize how trash this school really was.

Hae glared at you while you looked at her with indifference. You were the only one that could stand up to her,

‘ Oh, whatever’ She tossed her long hair over her shoulder and grimaced at you and you both ‘hmphed!’ at each other before going separate ways. You swiftly made your way across the campus and reached your class, ignoring the probing stares driving through your back.

‘ look at what she’s wearing!’

“What does she think she is?!”

“ Some kinda gangster it looks like’

‘ Such a tomboy!’

Another thing, people were allowed to put whatever they wanted in this school, meaning that everywhere you went, you would see plenty of girls with mini skirts and shorts, trying to impress the boys. * Not a pretty sight*, you thought.
Snappy comments were always there to bite you, but you didn’t care. You stopped caring the moment those two words had knifed you in the chest 10 years back, when you were just 6 years old. . . .

Your mother had just dressed up both you and Hwae for your birthdays, washing you in rosemary’s scent and brushing your hair until it was straight. The only difference between you and your twin was the hair. Totally different, yours were kind of wavy and curly while hers were stick straight, sticking right to her forehead, which didn’t compliment her fringe at all. Furthermore, her hair was coal black while yours were kind of on the brown side.

‘ jae-yah’ Your mother called out to you and you skipped up to her, grinning and pulling on her dress ‘ Omma, your dress’s soo pretty~!’

“Gomawo, Jae-yah, but you’re going to be much prettier tonight’ Her mother smiled at her and removed, from her wardrobe, a beautiful baby blue dress, which sparkled in the limelight and trailed down way past your ankles. But you didn’t care,  you just wanted to feel like a princess. She put it on you, even lacing up your high heeled petticoat boots, and you smiled. For once, you felt as if you were the prettiest girl in the world, and that was thanks to your mom.
‘There’ Your mom stood back with a smile lingering on her lips, her eyes shining brightly. She beamed at her daughter, wondering how can someone be so pretty even though she didn’t even put on makeup.

‘ You’re so cute! ‘ He mother squealed and pushed you towards the garden. She nodded at her daughter. ‘ GO, I’m sure everyone will notice how great you are’

‘ gomawo, Omma’ You smiled and bounced back to the garden where all the kids were playing around. You could see Hwae’s gang bullying everyone in the playground, and you couldn’t help but frown. You hadn’t known how to stand up to to Hwae yet, so you were kind of scared of her, although she was your sister.

‘ Oh my gaaaaaawd’ Hwae finally turned when one of her friends commented on you and saw her Twin sister’s dress, who was much prettier than hers. Jealously flamed in her and she got even more pissed than she was already. For a fact, she had actually been rejected by the boy of her dreams, who was  now going to see Jae before she could interrupt his path. It was true she was still young for a boyfriend, but she couldn’t help but be angry at her sister for stealing away her crush.

‘ Jae-ah’ the boy came up to you and smiled as you turned to him, beaming and linking his arm through yours'  You look so pretty~’ He said. You couldn’t help but look down , trying to hide your rarely seen smile. Then you lifted your head
‘Gomawo, Jaehyo-oppa’ He smiled shyly and gestured to his friends, BLOCK B, who were by the tree, playing football. They smiled and waved at you before resuming their game. Of course, no one took attention to you, and you pouted slightly at that. But your thoughts were interrupted by Hwae’s sharp and icy voice, which cut through you, sharp as bee stings, cold as ice.

‘ Oh my gaaawd what are you wearing Jae?’ Hwae interrupted them while clenching her fists. She put her hands on her hips and smirked.
‘ What is this? Some kind of costume party! You look ridiculous!

You felt tears rising up as they continued their silly chant “ RIDICULOUS! JAE-AH IS SO UGLY, BUT HWAE-AH IS SO PRETTY, JAE-AH IS SO UGLY, EVEN WHEN SHE TRIES TO BE GIRLY!!!!”

You shuddered delicately at the memory and pushed it in the back of your mind. Don’t think about it, it’s just pure horse, you glanced at the students and snorted. Half of the class was already bunking, seeing as it was empty.
‘ Hey Tomboy, wassup?’

You turned your head only to scowl at the boy in front of you. Nam Woohyun. He was okay, with a cute smile and a lovable face, but you weren’t interested. You had no interest in boys whatsoever.
‘ So… still with your hubbie?’ He nodded towards your skateboard and your hand gripped around it defensively. You glared and it bored into his eyes, making him intimidated for having asked you that.
‘ Go get friggin’ lost, you small eyes’ you replied sharply. You didn’t want any friends over here. Block B were the only friends you accepted in your life, and that was it. Even though you guys had just moved, every member of the group had pasted their photos on the back of a Bristol paper and given to you, telling you to stick in your room. Which you had. This comment seemed to have encouraged Woohyun even more; he sat by your side and lay his head on his head with his elbow up on the table, pouting slightly at you.
‘Why are you being so naughty, Jae?’ He asked childishly. You rolled your eyes and chuckled. This guy made you think of an annoying and persistent puppy that was in great need of pats and hugs.
‘ Cause, I in feel like it’ you snapped back. He leaned back , his eyes wide and blinking. * So now, he’s scared, better sooner than later*. But to your surprise , he burst in laughter and clapped you on the back, which you threw his arm off and stood up, making your chair fall in the process. You glared and he stopped laughing as he saw it.
‘don’t ever in’ do that bloody thing again’ you hissed between your clenched teeth. But the more you were annoyed, the more he was sticking to you. You sat back down and put your head in your arms , exasperated by his behavior.
‘ Why can’t you in’ go and talk to your bloody friends?! ‘ You asked tiredly.
‘I’m going to’
‘Then ing go, now’
he glanced at his friends then back at you.
“Fine, I’ll be going, but see you later during lunch! Come and sit with us!” And with that he dashed off, leaving you in peace. You sighed.

This school is pure horse, you thought.
