Our love story
BAEKHEE
I sat at the breakfast table, stabbing my sunny side up with my fork angrily as I pondered over Baekhyun's whereabouts.
'Oppa, where are you?'
'Neh? Baekhee ah, oppa is kinda busy now okay? I will call you later?'
'Oppa! Where are you?'
He sighed into the phone. ' Baekhee ah, I am with Kamin. She has fallen ill. I have to take care of her, okay?'
'Oppa... I thought you said you would accompany me today instead.'
'Baekhee. Oppa is very busy now. Please.'
Call ended.
I tossed my phone onto the table, hands clenched into fists. Oppa spends so much more time with Kamin now... He doesn't even care about me anymore.
"Annyeong, Baekhee. You are early today. It's good to see you at the dining table in the morning. It's so much better than to keep yourself in your room for the whole day." Eomma chirped as she settled herself down comfortably onto the velvet-cushioned chair.
Plastering a smile on my face, I forced myself to reply," Neh. It is a wonderful morning."
She smiled, a distant look on her face. "Last night was wonderful too. Baekhyun seems so happy with Kamin. They really make a good couple."
My fingernails bit into my palms. "Neh? Really?"
"Yes. They look so cute together. You should have been there. Kamin is a really nice girl." Eomma placed her hand on mine.
"oh." I smiled forcibly,"you must have been very glad last night."
She nodded as she drank her coffee. Stupid mother, taken in by Kamin already.
"By the way, is Kamin sick?" I asked quizzically.
She nodded, a frown now present on her face.
"She fell ill last night when we went to enjoy the sea breeze. She wore little to protect herself against the cold wind. Even with Baekhyun's jacket, she caught a cold. It is so worrying. She must take good care of herself and her baby. After all, I don't want my future grandchild to fall ill." Eomma rubbed her hands together before standing up abruptly.
"I made some porridge for Kamin. I'd better check on it now." With that, she hurried to the kitchen.
I slumped on the table, fuming. Why does Kamin get all the attention now? Even my mother doesn't take that much care of me anymore. All because of her. And that baby. That baby... It must be. The baby must be what Eomma cares about. Besides, it's her grandchild. If only the baby is gone... Then wouldn't they all come back to me? Baekhyun and Eomma...
A sly smile crept on my face.
"Eomma!" I called," I am free. I can help you bring the porridge to Kamin's house."
Eomma shot a look at me, raising an eyebrow,"really?"
I nodded earnestly, "of course." I used a saccharine tone,"besides, I want to apologize for not being able to go for the dinner last night."
Eomma hesitated before she smiled,handing me the lunch box, "okay then. Be careful, don't spill the porridge."
I nodded. I wouldn't spill the porridge.
