In the passing years of Park & Co.’s yearly Christmas ball, they incorporated an auction, in which selected male and female attendees were to be auctioned off for a dance, and the money will go to charity, in celebration of the season of love and giving. The man of the Park household and the CEO of Park & Co., Chansung, randomly picks which of the attendees were to be auctioned off.

This year, Rara got picked. Whenever she was chosen, Baekhyun would approve even though he would’ve declined only if he didn’t come across as a jealous prick. The Other Baekhyun, on the other hand, even escorted her to the stage when it was her turn to climb up, very willing to let any man have a chance to dance with his wife. And judging by the appreciative looks men were giving her, it seemed like she was going to be able to give a lot of money to the charity. 

Her mom hosted the auction, and when Rara stood with her onstage she gave her a giddy smile, routinely telling her to just try and enjoy it. Married or single, Rara still didn’t like mingling with people that much, especially with strangers. But this was going to benefit a lot of people, so she held her head high and temporarily stripped the fact that she was a huge introvert. 

“I present to you my only daughter, Dr. Rara Byun.” Ahreum announced. “She is happily married to one of the vice presidents of Park & Co., so for those who hope for an after-story, once the dance is over and so is your time with my daughter.” She remarked, making the crowd laugh a little bit. “As I’ve said, she’s a doctor of Medicine that specializes in surgery; her pre-medical course was General Biology. My daughter is studying to be a neurosurgeon and besides the miracles she performs with her hands inside the operating room, she is also able to make fine art using various art media, both dry and wet, such as colored pencils, charcoal, watercolor, acrylic, and oil. She is capable of saving lives at the hospital and bringing art to life as well.” Ahreum looked at the crowd then at Rara. “Bidding starts at $10,000.”

One by one, the men raised amounts of money larger than $10,000, until it got to $50,000. Rara was bewildered by the amount because that would equate to about 60 million won. The Other Baekhyun just sat at the table and watched her closely. The longer she stood there, the more nervous she became; she felt like the Other Baekhyun was going to turn the situation around and tell her just because he accompanied her to the stage, doesn’t mean he wanted her there. What if it was a bait? What if it was reversed psychology, and she didn’t realize it?

“$55,000!” Rara’s attention was brought to the person who shouted that amount, and she was surprised to see it was Jintae, Baekhyun’s assistant. That kid has that much money? She thought.

“$60,000!” When Rara heard that voice, the idea of dancing with Jintae became a fairytale—a dream come true, if you may—considering she thought her dance partner would be a much older man.
