A Lack of Normalcy

Minji’s POV

Tuesday started out as normal. My alarm blaring at 5:30am.I hit snooze repeatedly, until I finally rolled out of bed at 6:15am. I took a show, and then prepared breakfast. After breakfast with my grandmother, I rushed out to the car around 7:20am so that I would arrive before the bell at 7:30am.

As we ate, my grandmother reminded me of her trip with friends. They were going on vacation as they did every winter. They would spend the week on a warm beach, while I remained here and froze. I zoned out as she mentioned the dishes she made and left refrigerated. She knew I could cook for myself, but preparing meals before she left had become a habit, and her meals were delicious.

Normally she called in a friend to stay with me, or my aunt from my father’s side of the family. She finally decided that I was old enough to stay alone. I was going to be 18 in a few months anyway.

I kissed my grandmother and wished her a safe trip, before leaving. I arrived at school slightly earlier than usual. When I arrived Sanghyuk was talking with a group of the girls in the class, and all the boys seemed to be watching him. I looked him up and down and sighed as I slunk down into my seat. He looked great today. I tried my best to ignore him trying to get to know the girls in class, but I couldn’t help but feel like there was a rock in my stomach.

I had the biggest crush on him. I had since I first saw him walk in the classroom. I remember him smiling and waving casually with one hand as he introduced himself. The teacher told him to take the seat behind me. He looked at the seat, and then at me. His soft smile made me fall for him immediately. Now I had willingly put myself into the friend-zone. I was trying to help him find another girl.

Pulled my text book out and set it down on my desk a little harder than needed. I bent down to pull out my notebook, and felt a warm hand on my back, “You feeling ok?” I turned to see Sanghyuk looking at me with concern. I shrugged away, the spot where he touched tingled. I nodded and felt my cheeks growing warn.

He looked a little upset that I pulled away, but smiled and nodded back at me before taking his seat. The teacher began class, and I tried my best to focus on what was being said, and not at the boy sitting behind me.

Sanghyuk’s POV

She pulled away from me. I was shocked. I had never had someone pull away from me like that. The guys back home pulled away from me when I was being annoying, but I was trying to be nice. It hurt. She was helping me find the other girl from the prophecy, and I wanted to repay that kindness.

I debated tapping her shoulder to ask her again. She seemed angry and upset. I wondered if I had done something to upset her. I replayed all of my interactions with her. I couldn’t remember anything. Then I remembered her grandmother knowing that I was the puppy. Did her grandma tell her?

I shook my head and wrote her a note:

MJ

Are you sure everything is ok? You can tell me anything. Please talk to me.

                        SH

I debated passing it to her during class, and decided against it. I added my phone number below my name and folded it into a rectangle tucking the corner end, to make it stay, and the writing MJ on the exposed corner. When everyone left the room for lunch, I tucked it in her math book before leaving.

At lunch I sat with the girls from our class. I nodded and smiled as they gossiped and talked about some new chick flick that was in theaters. Their conversation was very dull. I couldn’t help but glance over to see Minji picking at her food. Her end of the table was nearly empty, at the other end, a group of people were studying with one hand, and using the other to shovel in food.

I really wanted to join her, but reluctantly I turned back to the girls and laughed at the joke one of them had just told. I silently prayed that it this mystery girl, was not sitting with me.

“You’ll come with us right?”

I smiled and nodded, “Of course.” I had no clue what they had asked or my answer would have been very different.

“Great, I’m sure you’ll love it.” The girl smiled widely and batted her eyelashes.

“For a chick flick, it’s supposed to have a lot of action scenes.” Another girl added.

    I groaned internally, “I can’t wait.”

Minji’s POV

After class Sanghyuk was pulled out of the room by the group of girls. I overheard them talking about the newest love story to hit the silver screen. I couldn’t help but chuckle. “He is really suffering to find this mystery woman.” I packed up my books and left the empty room.

Once home I did my homework and found the note. There was no way I was going to tell Sanghyuk that I was angry because he was being so nice to the other girls in class. I tucked the note into the back pocket of my jeans and finished my homework.

It was odd to be eating alone. I absent mindedly sorted through the containers and picked one at random. I popped it in the microwave and tried to sort my thoughts. Best thing to do, is to help him find the girl as quick as possible. The microwave dinged pulling me from my thoughts.

After eating I found that I was very tired. I went up to my room. I pulled off my jeans and left them in a heap on the floor. There was no one here to yell at me for not putting them in the hamper right away. I fell face first on my bed and grabbed the blanket before rolling over to make myself into a burrito. I fell asleep quickly.

I didn’t often dream, but the dream I had Tuesday night was more vivid than any dream I’d had before.

I was standing on fresh fallen snow. All around me I saw trees. Someone called my name, “Minji!” Her town was urgent. “Is this what you saw?” The girl grabbed my shoulders and stared into my eyes. I must have said yes or nodded, because she began to move the snow with her boot. Beneath her feet I saw stone.

I heard the scraping of more boots and turned to see four other girls clearing off stone. There were Five stones total. The stone at my feet read Damned. I moved around the circle reading them each aloud, “The Damned, The Innocent, The Eternal Twins, The Sage, and The Seer."

I stopped at the last stone, and looked around. Each of the girls stood over a stone, two at Eternal Twins. I let out a concerned cry as they one by one cut their palms. They squeezed their fists and let the blood drop onto the stone. I felt the bite of the knife into my own palm and watched the word Seer turn red with my blood.

I heard a humming and turned to see a stone altar rise in the center of the circle. Sanghyuk walked out of the trees. He was behind another man, and a man with red hair stood behind him. A bird circled above us.

The strangers embraced two of the girls, and Sanghyuk walked over and hugged me tightly. “I’m so glad you’re ok.”

The man who appeared to be in charge spoke, “Taekwoon and Hongbin have led them away for now. We need to get this done quickly.”

I woke up gasping. I fished the note out of my jeans and called Sanghyuk. It rang three times before he answered, sounding very tired, “Who is it? Do you know what time it is?”

“Hyuk Oopa? It’s Minji. I think I know which girl you are looking for.” The phone buzzed and powered off, “Shoot!” I exclaimed noticing that in my exhausted state, I had forgotten to plug my phone in to charge.

After my phone was plugged in, I powered it back on impatiently. I called again, but didn’t get an answer. I sent him a quick text message asking to call me once he got the chance.

I went downstairs to get glass of ice water. I stood in the kitchen replaying the dream over and over. After a few minutes, I heard a soft tapping at the back door. I carefully peeked out the window to see a shadow of a man. I let out a terrified shriek before realizing that Sanghyuk was on my back steps.

I let him in and closed and locked the door. Once my heart rate returned to normal, I turned and smacked his chest, “You scared me half to death! Never do that again.”

He grabbed my hand and held it on his chest. He flashed me his boyish smile, “I’ll try, but no promises.” After a moment of silence, he seemed to remember why he came. “So, you know who this mystery woman is? How?”

I scratched at the back of my head and looked around nervously avoiding his eyes. “I kinda saw her.”

“According to your grandma, I see her every day at school too. How did you know it was her?”

I chuckled nervously and looked him cautiously in the eye. “My grandma made my dinner, because she is out of town for the week.” He looked at me confused. “Remember that I told you that her visions are induced by a mixture of herbs? Well, I think she tricked me into eating them.”

“I thought you said that you weren’t a witch?”

“I didn’t think I was. I mean I had never had visions before, but my grandmother had never really tried to induce them with me.”

“Ok, so you're a witch.” He nodded seeming to accept it much more easily than I had expected. “Who is the girl.”

I shifted nervously before meeting his eyes again. I tried to sound confident. “It’s me.” He slowly started to smile. I thought he might start laughing, and my confidence disappeared. “What?”

He broke into a grin, “Thank God! I couldn’t stand those girls.”

I started laughing in surprise. He pulled me to him in a tight embrace. My heart began to beat wildly. He placed his hands on my shoulders and gently pushed me back. He was still smiling. “I had better go before the Hyungs find out I’m gone.” He placed a chaste kiss on my nose and walked out the back door into the night.

I went upstairs, practically floating. It wouldn’t be until tomorrow that I began to questions why he came and left the back door.

I'm sorry this chapter is a little later than usual.  Lots of snow and cold made me lazy and marathon dramas rather than write.
Good news is, VIXX has their comeback in less than 48 hours!
I hope you enjoyed the chapter! Thanks for reading!
