Can't Wait
Speak to Me
We were going to the location of my dad's wake in our limousine. Himchan and Daehyun were next to me, constantly worrying and checking if I was okay or not.
I'm holding back tears.
“Did my dad demand us to go to school because he knew he was going to die?”
Himchan stutters, “Yea. He passed away about thirty minutes after you guys left.”
“Did he say anything?” Youngjae asks.
“He said, 'Take care of my daughter'”
Youngjae and my eyes open wide, realizing that's what my mom said when she died as well.
I let out a sigh and Himchan puts an arm to comfort me but I don't need comfort. I need an explanation.
Why does everything bad happen to me?
++
The flowers covering my dad's coffin doesn't do any better on covering the dark ambiance surrounding the room. The four guys and I stand in a straight line in an open room with my dad as we watch his subordinates and a few other alliances coming to say their final goodbye to their boss and acquaintance.
Some stay strong and fight the urge to let out tears and respectfully bow as they coolly leave right away. The ones that had a strong bond with my dad let themselves bawl, as the rest of the visistors let out some pity tears.
“Saehee,” Himchan nudges as he's standing next to me. “Another group we are trying to form an alliance with is coming. They're one of the best groups. I know it's not the right time to say this, but be good to them. Try to smile and be respectful, and expect a little chat with their boss.”
Ugh, I don't feel like socializing.
“Here they come.”
I almost see my dad for a second, but realize it's just a guy who looks around the same age as my dad.
Behind him were two familiar faces. One guy extremely tall, the other short compared to the tall guy.
Jongup and Zelo.
The two of them along with other subordinates, watch their boss from behind as their boss bows towards the coffin, and then turns to us and bows. We bow back.
Zelo was the first to make eye contact with me. His eyes bulge open and nudges Jongup.
“Saehee, meet Varia, their boss.”
I bow to him, respectfully at a ninety degree angle just as Himchan requested.
“Thank you for coming.”
“No need to be polite. I was just getting along with your father. It's a shame that he passed away so suddenly, your father was a great man.”
I maintain my composure by letting out a fake smile, “He sure was.”
“I'd like to invite you guys to dinner. How does next Friday at six sound?”
I look to my side opposide of Himchan. Youngjae nods in approval.
“Sounds great.”
“Perfect. I can introduce you to some of my best subordinates, they're a year younger than you and they go to the same school as you.”
I act surprised, “What are their names?”
“One's name is Jongup, the other is Zelo.”
I look behind the boss' shoulder and see both of them gulp.
My smile slightly goes down. “I've never heard of them. Well, I don't know that many underclassmen.”
Their eyes are filled with confusion.
“Well then, can't wait to introduce them to you next Friday.”
“I can't wait to meet them.”
He smiles. “Take care, Kim Saehee. I once again apologize for your loss. May your father rest in peace.”
“Thank you for coming.” I bow once again at a ninety degree angle.
“See you next Friday.” he repeats as he walks out the room along with the rest of his subordinates following after. Jongup and Zelo were the last ones to walk out, hesitantly with fear and confusion written all over their faces.
Can't wait to have dinner.
