The real reason

Unwanted Attention

Fourty

Kai arrived at a regular restaurant looking for someone he doesn’t know. His father told him to meet someone special. And that person would be the only one who knew him. So, he just has to wait until that person arrives.

Time passed by and he was tired of being stupid enough to wait for a person who obviously isn’t gonna show up.

Standing up, he decided to leave this place but a voice stopped him.

“Hey.”

“Shin Hye”

She chuckled. “What brings you here?”

He shrugged. “Old man wants me to meet somebody. You?”

“Just stuff.” She replied. “Did you eat already?”

He shook his head. “Been waiting for that person for an hour and a half”

“Let’s order?”

He smiled. “Sure”

Never had she thought of coming back here again. Soori had waited for Mr. Kim’s assistant for her to come in to his office. She bit her lips lots of times, debating on whether or not this is a really good idea. Kai isn’t here anyway. He didn’t have to meddle with this or even know this. Her mother asked her persistently on where she was going since it is already late. But she just shrugged and went out as fast as she can.

She felt angry, yes. But she isn’t sure yet.

“Miss Park, you can now come in.”

She bowed a little and made her way towards the office.

It hasn’t changed though. Still gloomy as ever.

As soon as she went in, she faced Mr. Kim’s poker face. But at least, he was busy with his paper works and he actually didn’t care to look at her.

“I guess you’re here to waste my time.”

“I’m sorry for that but I came here to confirm something.”

“If you’re asking about my son being engaged, he is. “

That caught Soori momentarily but she still proceeded to ask him.

“Were you the one behind my parents’ unemployment?”

He looked at her and forgot all about his papers. But he went back to himself.

“Park Soojin.” Mr. Kim looked at her again. “Have you ever come across that name?” That was her mother’s name. She told him, hoping that it would finally be clear to him.

Mr. Kim straightened himself. “I’m doing this for my company and my son’s sake.”

“But why would you go that far? My parents never meddled into your business, why won’t you take me instead?” She snapped, unable to control her feelings anymore.

Neither of them spoke another word for minutes.

“Read this.” Mr. Kim handed her news paper reports saying all about their great loss of sales. But Soori was still confused.

“WK group offered me financial help in exchange for an engagement between our children.”

Soori furrowed her eyebrows.

“I didn’t accept it but my health lead me no choice.”

“Your health?”

“I’ve had many attacks lately and it’s getting worse.”

“I don’t want my son to experience a forced marriage. I don’t want him handle a failed business. That’s why I told you this and did many things inappropriate. You see child, I have nothing against you. But I’m acting now before Kai gets too attached to you.” He chuckled. “But I guess he already is.”

“But must it be this way?”

He looked at her mildly, finally looking like a true father. “I have not wished for this and I am sorry for what I did to your parents. I will return them to their positions immediately.”

“Mr. Kim?”

“Yes?”

“What happens if Kai…won’t accept the engagement?”

He smiled. “I will probably have to close down the company and deal with my health.”

“Mr. Kim?” She asked again. “Do you… really love your company?”

He smiled sadly. “Yes, a lot. I have worked hard for years. I have enjoyed the feeling of cheerful and successful employees I have and in helping our country. But it forced me to make sacrifices regarding my son. It was hard, but I have to make him understand sooner or later. “

Soori felt like she was the only thing that’s creating trouble between these worlds. She hated this feeling but she had to make a decision, a wise decision. If Mr. Kim made sacrifices that cost him so much pain, then maybe she would have to do the same.

“It feels like the old times again, huh.” Shin Hye sighed. Both she and Kai have been having a lot of laughs after their dinner. They went to a playground and acted like kids which caused them to tire a bit and hung out in Shin Hye’s car.

“Yup”

“Say, Kai..” Shin Hye leaned closer to him.

“Hmm?”

“What if we date?” She giggled.

“Then it would be world war III.”

They laughed but Shin Hye felt disappointed. She was actually serious about what she asked earlier. She wanted him ever since her sister, Sunyoung, dated him way back. Shin Hye was a geek back then and she saw inspiration in Kai when he helped her overcome her insecurities. He was the first person who ever said she was beautiful. And he was the first person whom she had her first kiss. She left overseas for a bit and promised herself to come back and get him.

And she did, with the help of her father, who is the owner of the WK group. Kai’s father had already accepted the proposal. So, it would only be days until both of them would be officially engaged.

“Drink this.” She handed him bottled juice.

“Thanks.” He immediately drank it. “This is weird.”

“But tasty.”

He grinned. “Yeah.”

At this time of the night, people were scarce.

Shin Hye leaned in closer to him. “Aren’t you a bit hot?”

True, Kai was sweating, and he felt strange.

“A little.”

“Let me help you with that.” Shin Hye took of his jacket.

“Wait, what are you doing?”

She shushed him with a kiss. Shin Hye expertly s her tongue into his mouth as she had finally made her fantasy came true.

Kai can’t concentrate on what was happening but he was sure this isn’t right. His mind was really clouded and the only thing he could think about was his ual desires.

Shin Hye had put something in his drink earlier causing him to be like this. She smirked when she felt him kiss her back.

“..Soori.” He moaned.

Shin Hye abruptly cut their kiss. “I’m Shin Hye and I’ll make you forget about that girl.” And she kissed him again.

But Kai finally went back to his senses.

Damn, she really did put something on my drink.

“Wait, Shin Hye, this isn’t right.” He pushed her back lightly. But she wasn’t stopping. He added strength on his grip and she finally stopped.

“I can’t do this.”

“Why not?”

“I’m dating somebody. And…. I have to go, bye.” He instantly opened the door and jogged back to his apartment.
