No, I don't

Unwanted Attention

Seventeen

Her laugh is the only thing he could see, through the vastness of the place, and the number of people in it. Another day spent with her is another magical day. He couldn’t get enough of her voice, her smile and her eyes. They went to the place were it all started.

The library.

To him, it was an enchanting place, because he met her there.

“Lay, you should get more sun in your skin, you’re so pale!” She spread her hands wide, gesturing that it’s an urgent request. She was walking two or maybe three steps before him. They went outside to get some fresh air as she suggested.

She suddenly halted, “Crap!” Looking at her watch, and she remembered something.  “I have to go now”

“Where?”

“Kai asked me to go with him in his dance competition”

Kai. Again.

“Oh” It was all he could say. What else would there be? Have fun? When technically, he doesn’t feel good about her going with him. He wanted to spend the day with her. And the last time he checked, he was Kai’s best friend, wouldn’t it be more suitable if Lay went with his best friend?

“Bye Lay! It was fun hanging out with you!” She waved him goodbye as she ran forward. Sooner or later he knew he had to let go of her. He has this feeling that she might fall for Kai and not him. But enough about that. Reality and future are two unpredictable things. Just let it be.

What if someday he’d end up with her?

“You’re late”

“Well geez, sorry okay? I went somewhere first” His ears perked up.

“Where?”

“To the library” Uh-oh.

“With whom?”

“Lay” She said his name like it didn’t matter at all.  Kai’s face scrunched up. “Are you okay? …You look puny, but of course, you’ve always been puny.” She seems to be laughing a lot today.

“Shut up peep squeak” He lightly hit her head and playfully stuck out his tongue.

Soori found it hard to find a seat by the jam-packed people around. People whispering excited chats. All of them were giddy upon their seats, waiting to see the show. She wondered if the other competitors were like Kai. If they were graceful yet powerful onstage.

She finally found an empty seat which was quite suitable for her. Placing her body carefully and sitting comfortably on the seat made her look like a grandma.

“Ladies and gentlemen, I hope you found your sear because we’re gonna start the program in 5 minutes.” Luckily Soori already found one as she saw several people panicking.

In a random pit at her heart, she wanted Kai to win. She saw him dance once, and that was all t takes to convince her that Kai really is a dancing machine.

The program started and she found out that many contestants were amazing. Some were doing ballet with ultimate gracefulness; some were snappy with their electronic music. She can’t help herself but applaud every time a contestant finishes his or her piece.

“Next is Kim Jongin” As the MC babbled about the rest of the details, some girls were squealing and giggling. I guess Kai’s fan girls are supportive of him too.

He stepped out from the backstage with ease. That’s what’s amazing about him; he has a lot of confidence in himself. He placed himself at the center as the spotlight shone over him and he waited for the music to start. The melody came out first with a mellow tune. He didn’t waste a second as he started to move his body. He was gentle and precise; he jerked his body to the left and made it look graceful. As the words of the song came out, he immediately changed into something more befitting. She slightly blushed at the times when Kai made a move to grab his crotch, but that’s probably part of his choreography. In the end, Kai never failed to make her impressed. He was same as always, captivating.

He ended his performance with endless intake of breath and a genuine smile. And his eyes wandered over and found hers. They locked eyes for a moment, and then she smiled. He was shocked for a bit but then he laughed.

I like her.

No, I don’t, what am I thinking?
