Let Me Be With You

Jieun rolled her eyes and continued walking in the direction she was headed. Her lips were curved into a tiny smile and her hands were placed into the pockets of her jacket.

“You’ll see how I’m right.”

“Why did you even talk to her?” Taemin asked. He spun Jinhee around and placed a hand on her waist to support her. “Ouch, you stepped on me.”

“Sorry,” She mumbled and moved as one with Taemin as they practiced their routine. “She talked to me first,”

“You could have just ignored her.”

They both groaned in annoyance when they yet again got tangled up in each other, messing up their whole routine. Jinhee took her heels off and massaged her aching feet. Taemin handed her a bottle of water and plopped down next to her.

“Next time she talks to you, just walk away.” Taemin said. Jieun was getting on his nerves and he figures—no, he knows that she had something up her sleeve. “I have a bad feeling about her.”

“Who doesn’t.” Jinhee rolled her eyes. She decided to change the subject since talking about Jieun just made her more and more frustrated. Her legs were crossed and a big smile crept on to her face which made Taemin question that look.

“How are you and Luna?” She asked in a tune.

He shrugged coolly and pressed his lips together until Jinhee’s whining became unbearable to which he finally answered her question. “We’re good. Slow; but good.”

She clapped her hands in excitement. “It’s weird but I guess you guys are meant for each other.”

Taemin agreed confidently and they exchanged laughs which filled the dance studio.

A sudden thought came into Jinhee’s mind. She knew it was absurd, that it was silly but what if Jonghyun really was seeing another girl behind her back? She thought.

“What?” Taemin asked noticing her troubled expression.

Confusion spread across his face as she brought up the possibility of her boyfriend cheating. “Jonghyun cheating? On you?” He scoffed. “You’re letting Jieun get to you.”

“No but what if—“

“What did you say to Jieun when she told you that?” Taemin asked.

She lowered her gaze and pouted. “That he’s my boyfriend and I trust him.”

“Exactly.”

Jinhee sighed and agreed, ashamed of her sudden self-contradicting theory.

“What you should be worry about now,” Taemin reached a hand out to help her up. “Is how to do this routine without crushing my toes with those heels.”

The room was dimly lit with the only source of light coming from the television in front of them. The coffee table was pushed to the side and a big comforter lay underneath them on the floor with pillows supporting their backs as they rested against the sofa, watching a movie.

“Okay, what is it?” Jonghyun turned his attention to his girlfriend who had been not-so-secretly glancing at him every now and then.

Jinhee shook her head and shrugged it off as nothing but he didn’t buy it.

When the movie ended, Jonghyun got up to switch the dvds and play another movie. That’s when Jinhee saw her target; his cellphone, neatly placed next to the empty space which Jonghyun had been sitting on.

“Jinhee.”

She jumped in place when she turned to find Jonghyun right in front of her, questioning her behaviour. “What’s gotten into you?”

“Nothing,” She kissed him gently to distract him.

Jonghyun seemed to have bought it, or so she thought. He excused himself to the restroom for a moment while the opening of the movie was starting and that’s when Jinhee made a move for his phone.

She paused when the screen lit up and a picture of them both showed on the display. “Aww,” She breathed placing a hand to her chest, but quickly swiped the screen to focus on her mission.

She scrolled through his text inbox looking carefully at every name, making sure none of which were suspicious. “Why are there so many girls?!” She whispered. “How cute,” She whispered again after noticing the hearts next to her name.

“What are you doing?”

She froze. Her smile was awkward and embarrassingly unconvincing that Jonghyun couldn’t help but to chuckle. “I was just checking the time,” She said.

“Right,” He took his place next to her and pulled her close. “Tell me what’s wrong. Please?”

She pondered over it and rested her head on his chest with a sigh, “Be honest okay?” She asked and felt him nod. “You…you’re not…cheating on me, are you?”

He pulled away and looked her dead in the eye. “Cheating on you?” His head shook slightly. “No. Why would you think that?”

“Please don’t be angry!” She hugged him and explained her actions, how Jieun’s words from the day before had gotten to her and made her resort to such tactics just to make sure it wasn’t true.

“I’m not angry,” He sighed. “But do you really think I would do that?”

She shook her head and lowered it in shame. He smiled and shrugged it off when she apologised. “Just remember that you’re the only girl I need in my life.”

She nodded and kissed him again. “Love you,” She whispered.

“Love you too.” He said. “So, what did you tell your brother about tonight?”

“That I was staying over at Luna’s place,”

Jonghyun tapped her nose lightly making her giggle. “You little liar.”

“It was the only way,” She said and moved closer to him. His hand was around her shoulder and their heads were leaned against one another. “Can we not watch this? I want to watch my drama.”

“Seriously?”

“Yes seriously!” She huffed. “Tonight’s episode is the most exciting one!”

Jonghyun gave in to her and reluctantly switched the channel to the drama she wanted to watch. He groaned and moved back to his place next to her as she snuggled closer. “Can’t believe you actually watch this kind of things…” He mumbled.

“What? It’s interesting.”

“It’s predictable, that’s what it is.” Jonghyun retorted.

“Okay so it’s about two guys in love with the same girl who’s in love with the meaner, more undeserving guy that doesn’t even want to admit his feelings for her until the drama is almost over instead of the guy who’s always been there for her and looking out for her and even if she does realise that her feelings for the mean guy won’t change and yes that’s predictable but I’m still going to watch this so shh.”

Jonghyun stared blankly at her, having barely understood a word she had said but smiled seeing how cute she looked being absorbed into the storyline.

It didn’t take long before Jonghyun got bored. He even dozed off a few times and as if on cue, he woke up just as the preview for the next episode was showing.

“That was interesting,” He said lamely.

Jinhee playfully punched him. “You were sleeping!”

“But I woke up just in time to catch the preview for next week and wow I can’t wait!”

She giggled and placed her hand over his mouth to stop him from saying anything else. When he shoved her hand away and held it in his grip, their eyes met and their giggles slowly faded away as they drowned in each other’s gaze.

“If we were the leads in a drama, would I be the mean guy or the deserving one?”

Jinhee tilted her head to the side. “Guess you’d be the mean guy,” She snickered. “And Minho is the deserving nice guy.”

A frowned appeared on Jonghyun’s face. “Really?”

“Of course not!” Jinhee sighed and laced their fingers together. “You’re not mean. And you’re definitely not undeserving. Whichever guy you are I will still choose to be with you; because you’re you.”

“Thank you,” He kissed her gently and slowly leaned forward till she was lying down with him above her.

“I like your hair,” She said running her fingers through his newly dyed brown hair. She missed his blond locks but having brown hair made him look way cuter.

Jonghyun smiled at her once again and leaned down, kissing her as passionately as possible.

And she returned the kiss with her own fiery passion.

__________

“Hey Minho,” Aeri said cheerfully as she quickened her pace to catch up with him. “Where are you going? You have soccer practice today?”

He smirked and walked ahead. “Yeah.”

“Oh okay.” She panted. “Do you want to have dinner together?”

He sighed and rejected her nicely, saying he had already made plans with Jinhee. Aeri gasped and ran up to him. “What? Jinhee?”

“Yes Jinhee, why?”

“I…I thought…I thought that you—never mind.” She gulped and lowered her head. “Can’t you just leave her and Jonghyun alone?”

Minho scoffed and continued walking. “It’s just dinner.”

“What about me?”

“What about you?”

“Ugh!” She yelled. “Fine! Don’t go out to dinner with me!”

His face reddened when a few other students passed by and stared at them. Grabbing hold of her, he wanted to pull her aside but she resisted and squeezed out of his grip. “Aeri.” He muttered through clenched teeth.

“What?!” She yelled again. “Go away! I hate you.”

“Fine!” He snapped and walked in the opposite direction.

“Fine.” She said as well before stomping off to the music room.

There she found Jonghyun and Kikwang who gave her a weird look when she barged in. They jumped in place when she screamed at them for staring. She took her seat next to Jonghyun with Kikwang on his other side.

“So did you guys finally do it?” Kikwang asked Jonghyun who then sighed and shook his head. “You’ve got to be kidding me.”

“She’s not ready!” Jonghyun stated which made Kikwang roll his eyes. To Kikwang it was ridiculous and he’s known Jonghyun for years; this being the first time he hadn’t slept with a girl he was dating.

“Like that has ever stopped you.” He mumbled, jotting down small notes at the bottom of his music sheet.

“You guys actually talk about girls you’ve slept with?” Aeri scoffed giving them a look while they glanced at each other before staring awkwardly at her. “Oh my god you guys have talked about me before, haven’t you?"

“Yeah Jjong—ouch!”

“No of course not.” Jonghyun smiled cheekily.

Aeri groaned and gave him death glares. “Just so you know, your girlfriend is going out with Minho tonight.” She smirked.

“Uh no she’s not,” Jonghyun shook his head. “She’s got dance camp for the next few days.”

Aeri shook her head in confusion and told him what Minho had said earlier in the hallway. The boys snickered. “He was probably avoiding you,” Kikwang said casually but wiped the smile of his face when he saw the look in her eyes.

“That idiot! Argh!” She yelled and headed out the door in rage. The boys could only watch as she yelled out a few curses on the way out.

“I think she’s on her period.” Jonghyun said with Kikwang agreeing.

__________

Jonghyun spent the rest of his day in school, composing new songs instead of practicing like he’s supposed to be. But he can’t help it, not when his source of motivation is busy and not there to encourage him.

Sighing as he went along, he continued to write down notes as he played simple tunes on the guitar.

“Sounds good,” He jumped at the voice and turned to find Jieun standing behind him.

He breathed in relief. “You scared me.”

“Sorry,” She giggled. Strangely enough he found her giggling similar to Jinhee’s but shrugged it off as his imagination. “So..I couldn’t help but to hear your conversation with Kikwang earlier on.”

“What? You were here?”

She nodded. “I was at the back.”

“So you eavesdropped?” He asked quite annoyed. Jinhee was right; she did give off a bad vibe. He tried his best to not blow up at her for influencing Jinhee that he was cheating on her.

Jieun pouted and took the seat next to him. “No I just…Jinhee’s my friend and I thought…” She sighed and got up ready to leave. “Just thought I could help but seems like you don’t like me that much so, I'll go.”

He dragged a hand over his face and cursed himself for feeling guilty. “Wait,” He said half-heartedly. “Sorry.”

She turned back around with a smile on her face before taking her seat once again. “Jinhee and I are closer now. You can tell me everything. I’d be happy to help the both of you!”

Jonghyun looked at her doubtfully. Her hair was dyed a reddish-orange and her hair was let down hanging just below her shoulders. With those bangs, she kind of looked like Jinhee. Jonghyun shook his head thinking it was just his imagination.

“You’re closer to Jinhee? I don’t think so…” He said.

“What’s wrong?” Jieun asked with a worried expression. “We are closer now. And aren’t we friends too? You and me?”

“Us? Friends?”

“Yeah, friends.” Her hand reached out to his which was resting nicely on his guitar. He looked at it for a while before extending his. “Aw come on, don’t act like you forget how we hung out a couple of times.”

“I try to.”

“What?”

“Nothing.”

__________

“No, don’t engage with the evil.” Key said to Jonghyun.

He stared at her and rolled his eyes. “It was just a handshake Key, not like I was kissing her.”

Key faked a gag while he took out his phone. “Oh Jinhee is going to love this,” He sneered.

“Don’t you dare,” Jonghyun’s eyes widened watching him type on his phone with a big grin on his face, obviously enjoying tormenting him. “Kibum,”

“Too late. Sent.”

“You idiot!”

From: Key
To: Jinhee

Jonghyun shook hands with Jieun today. They’re friends now. He made contact with evil; punish him!

From: Jonghyun
To: Jinhee

He’s lying! Don’t believe whatever he said! I love you!

Jonghyun groaned as a reply came in and punched Key on his arm. “See what you did! Jinhee said she won’t kiss me for a week…” He pouted.

“You’re pathetic,” Key muttered.

“I know you are but what am I?” Jonghyun huffed.

“Still pathetic.”

Nonetheless, your long waited update was still very much worth it.
I can't wait to see how the dance goes hehe.
