ii. Thirteen
Lifeline.Chanhee sighs as he tried to convince Byunghun for the 7th time that he should allow the doctor to check him but the younger has stubbornly been refusing to leave his position even for a second, his blood still flowing out of his wound that has already been coated with dried blood like caramel over an apple, only carmine instead of a soft brown. The said was kneeling in front of the operating theatre ever since they had arrived at the hospital. Chanhee had informed the police and Myungsoo the moment he regained consciousness and rushed down to the location to help Byunghun. The police arrived shortly after the kidnapper had stabbed Chanhun but the man managed to escaped unscathed much to everyone’s dismay. Currently all of them were camping outside of the operation theatre that Chanhun was in, Jonghyun, Ricky, Wooshin, Yewon and Dongchul had also rushed down upon receiving the news.
“Byunghun, at least let the doctor treat your wound to prevent any infections. You lost a lot of blood.”
True to Chanhee’s words, Byunghun’s lips were flaky and pale from the blood loss and his hands were trembling not just from fear and worry but also from his injury.
Seeing no response nor even the slightest reaction from Byunghun, Chanhee lets out a frustrated sigh and walks off to look for a doctor to come over to treat Byunghun’s wounds on the spot and check on him. It didn’t take long before Chanhee returns with a doctor in his tow as the doctor kneeled on his knees, cautiously checking Byunghun’s wounds, turning his hands back and forth for inspection before cleaning it and then bandaging it to prevent further bleeding. There still wasn’t response from Byunghun even while the doctor cleaned his wounds with antiseptic medication despite the fact that his wounds must have stung very badly. His eyes solely focused on the red light of the operating theatre waiting for it to dull grey.
When it finally did, Byunghun yanks his hand away from the doctor who was still in midst of bandaging it.
“Doctor how’s my son?” He questions the doctor as calmly as he could, trying to keep his fluctuating emotions in check.
“The patient has lost quite a substantial amount of blood and needs a blood transfusion immediately”
“I can donate! I’m his father!” Byunghun grips onto the doctor’s coat, rising urgently as Wooshin tried to hold him back to prevent him from tugging the doctor’s coat off.
“I’m sorry but immediate family members can’t donate. The patient’s blood type is AB.”
Jonghyun was about to retort that Byunghun wasn’t Chanhun’s biological father when Chanhee jumped in to volunteer to donate his blood claiming that his blood type was AB. Afterall even if Chanhun wasn’t Byunghun’s biological son, the blood loss he suffered has already taken a toll on him and it wouldn’t be advisable to donate his blood at the moment.
“No!” All of them jumped in shock at Byunghun and Wooshin’s sudden strong objection towards Chanhee’s suggestion of donating his blood to the child.
“I’ll donate, my blood type is A. A is alright right?” Jonghyun casually chips in and ushered the doctor in the direction of the blood donation room.
The doctor nods as he flips the documents clipped onto his clipboard while being pulled by the arm by Jonghyun as they both disappeared into the operating theatre.
“Why don’t you let me donate? My blood type is the same as Chanhun’s the transfusion would have a higher success rate as compared to Jonghyun's A. You are a doctor as well how can you not know that?” Chanhee started flaring up at the younger, unable to understand their decision.
Everybody can clearly see how much Byunghun loves Chanhun so why won’t he allow Chanhee to save the child since his blood fits the child like a glove?
“I don’t want to owe you any favors.” was Byunghun’s emotionless reply which sounded ridiculous to Chanhee.
What kind of an excuse was that? Was owing him a favor more important than the child’s surgery and life? That didn’t make sense did it?
“You’ve to be joking.” Chanhee scoffs.
“How can you be thinking about this kind of ridiculous factors when the child’s life is on the line are you insane? What exactly are you hiding? I’m pretty sure not
