As I walked out of the hotel, I held the phone tightly in my hand. The busy street, filled with cars and tourist made me suffocate. I looked around before crossing the road, directly into a shop area. The phone rang and I answered it, one hand closing my other ear.       "Yes mother." I answered, as soon as I pressed the green button.       "How is the preparation for the departure tomorrow? Everything is good and done? Have you pack your stuffs?" She asked, and I squeezed my finger into my ear, trying to shut out the noises from the streets.       "I've done everything. You don't have to worry, okay?" I walked through the crowd, trying to get pass it quickly. The night was increadibly noisy, with lights everywhere, and vendors shouting on top of their lung.       "Okay." Mother approved and I said goodbye before hanging up. I put the phone in my pocket, along with my purse. I walked and calculating my distance from the diner in my head. I hate walking.   The hot air of Phuket blew my face as I walked through the shops, in the middle of a busy night market. Alone, I wadded straight to a sleazy diner at the end of the road, and rushed to take an empty table for two.       "Coconut drink. And a plate of buttered prawn please." I requested without referring to the menu. Since I arrived here, a week ago, every night I'll be in the diner, looking around and relax, even though the diner is miles from my hotel. I dont know why I like the dinner so much.   The waiters running around, (unfortunately not in roller skates) and took orders. Even though the dinner was filled with strangers, but I never felt lonely here. The chattering and laughter, even though I didn't understand most of them, made me felt like safe.   I looked on as a man get inside the dinner and walked to a table. Interesting. I thought and sipped my drink. Every night, since I came here, that guy will come, ordering the same drink and sat alone, until midnight. Sometime he will called somebody with his phone and laughed a hearty laughter, as I stared in the midst of the crowd. Tonight, he's here again.   After a while, the food came and I put the prawn, one after another, into my mouth. I am staring at him, a habit that I tend to develop when I see somebody I like. I bit my lips and trying to find a way to get to know him. After a while, I realise that maybe this will be the last chance for me to get to know him. He looked at me, realise somebody was looking at him and he lifted his drink politely and smiled.   That's it. I'm going for it.    I started to build up my confidence as I get up from my seat and walked towards him when a girl, with long black hair and a little black dress  appeared from the crowd and sat next to him. They talked for a while and I saw the girl whispered to him, that made him grinned widely. She kissed his cheek and pulled him to stand up.   My mouth hanged and I looked away bitterly, before realising that both had disappeared into the crowd. I sighed and went back to my table, feeling like a fool, before realising that somebody was sitting there, reading the menu.       "Excuse me." I said, trying not being rude.       "This is my table." I stated and the man glances at me, from the back of the menu.       "Sorry?" He answered, finally, another tourist. With leather jacket and cap on his head. Doesn't he feel the heat of this place??       "I said, this is my table." I put out my index finger, pointing at the table.       "Owh." He finally realised after looking at the shrimp and the coconut drink.       "Sorry." He gets up and I looked around, maybe he could sit at another table. Oh wait.…      "There's no more seat available." I said as he too, looked around.       "Well, its okay then." He put the menu down and turned away without any more question.       "Wait." I called out and sat on my place, gesturing to the seat in front of me. I dont care anymore. Might as well do some good deeds on the last night of my vacation here.        "Have a seat. It will take you hours to find another empty diner." I smiled awkwardly and he looked at me in awe, before pulling the chair and sat on it.       "Thanks." He smiled a smile that I admit, had dazzled me.   We both sat there, like strangers, and I looked at my watch, before pushing the empty plate away and he called a waiter to take his orders.   After I sipped the last of the drink, I looked around and saw that the place has taken a crowd tonight. After the waiter took his order, I stood up, and pushed the chair in.       "Is there.. any occasion for tonight?" I asked a waiter as he passed through the table. The waiter looked at me suspiciously. He is a local, with the skin complexion of a beach boy and yellowed hair.       "Yes.. It's an annual festival" He muttered before turning around rudely and went into the back counter. I rolled my eyes and put my money on the table, before glancing at my table mate for the last time. He was looking at the waiter who had disappeared in the midst of the crowd and he turned to face me.   Urgh.... those beady eyes... I get smittened by his expression. It's almost cautious, like he was trying to tell me something.   Finally, he smiled, and I smiled back, as a farewell. After a week there, today will be the last and I will board my plane to return to my home country tomorrow noon. I sighed as I walked to the door. After all this while, I spent a whole week, being attracted to somebody who I didn't know, and ended up with nothing.       I walked out of the diner, noticing my neighbour didn't take his eyes of me till I walked out of the door, hopped down the road and walked to my hotel as usual before I stopped on my track as the way in front of me guarded by police, with fence and all. It's closed.       " Sorry miss, you can't go through. We are closing the road for the parade." I looked around and pouted my lips. How can I go back? I peered around the street to find a solution.   Then, I saw an alley that lies behind rows of old shops. I think I've used the road before. I bit my lips, before securing my wallet and phone inside my pockets and looked around the alley briefly before dashing through it.   The road through the alley is like the longest I've walked. And the smell made me nauseated. The smell of drains and food waste wafted, and I cringed on every thing I stepped on. Maybe, I should wait for the festival to end. I mumbled to myself.   Not long after I reached halfway, I heard footsteps behind me. Afraid to look back, I walked faster and the footsteps echoed, closer. I turned out running the rest of the way before someone pulled my hair from the back and shoved me to the wall.   My head banged against the wall and I shield my eyes from the faraway light to see my attacker. It is the waiter from the diner. And he was not alone. My eyes darted around in panic as he and his friend walked closer and I saw him wielding a flick knife.   Both of the guys came closer and in a flash, I could feel the cold knife pressing my throat. They talked to me in Thai a
