Important Decision

An Angel's Promise To The Sky

“HEY, hyung! Are you even listening to us?” Eunhyuk gets Leeteuk’s attention to him, “Are you alright?” he then asked,

Ne, I’m alright.” Leeteuk answered him, “What step are we now, Hyukjae-ya?”

“See, you are not listening to what I’m saying.” Eunhyuk said, “We better take a break guys. I guess we won’t be able to finish if one of us is not in the mood.” He then informed his brothers,

“What seems to be the problem, hyung? You seem to be feeling down since this morning though. Did something happen?” Siwon asked and sat beside Leeteuk,

Aniyo. You don’t have to mind me, Siwon-ah. I’m really alright.” Leeteuk then said,

“Ani. Do you know what they say when a person says ‘I’m alright?’ that means the other way around, hyung.” Sungmin then said, “Now tell us, what’s wrong.”

Leeteuk fell silent, “You really do know me, don’t you, guys?” he said and grinned sadly at them,

“Really, hyung. What seems to be the problem?” Donghae asked and sat at the other side of Leeteuk,

“Well… Sora… me…” Leeteuk vaguely uttered to his Super Junior brothers,

Mweoyo? I didn’t understand what you said, hyung.” Sungmin said and leaned closer to Leeteuk, he then saw Siwon and Donghae’s dumbfounded reactions, “Yah! What’s wrong with you, two?”

“Sora… she did…” Donghae uttered while staring blankly in front of him,

“Sora-ssi? What about her?” Eunhyuk asked Donghae worriedly, “Did something happen to Sora-ssi?”

“Maybe Leeteuk hyung got rejected by Sora-ssi or something. That would be really fun to see, guys.” Kyuhyun commented and laughed,

“I thought you both love each other, hyung? Why did she reject your marriage proposal to her?” Siwon then blurted out of anger.

“Mweo?! Sora-ssi really rejected hyung’s marriage proposal?! Wae? I thought they love each other?” Shindong then said,

“Yah, Shindong hyung! Isn’t that what Siwon said already?” Kyuhyun then asked, “You should watch out for Nari then and make sure that you won’t have the same fate as our hyung.” Kyuhyun said and glared at Shindong.

“But didn’t Sora-ssi say that you’re her first love, hyung? We even saw your pictures and posters on her wall when we got there.” Donghae commented, “Getting rejected by someone who loves you is…”

“Painful, hyung. Really painful.” Kyuhyun said and moved his head sideways, “Maybe girls are really like that, huh? They will love you, and then leave you when they have reached what they want. Just like Taeyeon. “He then commented, “They’re all just the same.”

“Are you really on Leeteuk hyung’s side or what?” Yesung then asked Kyuhyun, “You’re not really helping. Don’t you know that?”

“I was just telling the truth though. Hyung has experienced getting rejected and I’m sure that he already knows what to do with that.” Kyuhyun said and turned to Leeteuk, “Right, hyung?”

“Hey! Don’t rub salt on it, Kyuhyun! You are making things worse than they already are.” Sungmin then said, “I know that things will be fine between the two of them.” Sungmin then said, “Just give Sora some more time on it, hyung.” He said when he turned to Leeteuk,

“Yeah. Sora must have a reason to reject you for now, hyung. She might want to focus first on her career before settling down with you.” Ryeowook said, “You just have to understand her for now.”

“Wookie-ya, I’m not asking her to marry me immediately.” Leeteuk started, “I’m just asking her to get engaged with me. Of course I know that both of us still have a lot of work engagements and I already told her that I won’t be in the way on her career.”

“But she ended up rejecting me…” Leeteuk said frustrated, he then stood up and looked down to his brothers, “Can I just take some air, guys? I’ll be back later.” He said and the Super Junior members nodded at him,

Leeteuk left the SMEnt practice room and went to the garden at the back of the SMEnt’s building and sat on one of the benches, “I didn’t really get why she answered me that way. Is there something wrong with me?”

*Flashback*

“Marry me, Sora.” Leeteuk said and smiled at Sora,

“Marry you, oppa? It’s too early for us to get married. I – I’m not ready to get married yet.” Sora told him,

“Sora-ya, I’m not asking you to marry me now. I’m just asking you to marry me but I’m not rushing you.” Leeteuk then explained and touched Sora’s cheek, “We do want to be with each other, right?”

Sora leaned away from Leeteuk and got off the bed then sat on the couch on the side of the room, “Oppa, there are so many things that I still want to do and I still want us to enjoy what we have now. I can't…”

*End of Flashback*

“Is career really more important than love? Does she think that I will not let her continue doing what she likes even we get married?” Leeteuk uttered to himself and sighed,

He was still thinking about Sora and what happened the last time they saw each other when he felt his phone rang from his pocket. He saw an unregistered number calling him,

Yoboseyo?” Leeteuk then said,

“Yoboseyo, oppa!” the other line answered in an excited voice, “Are you free tonight? Come and join me. Let’s have a drink!”

“Mweoyo? Nuguseyo? How did you know my number?” Leeteuk then asked his caller,

“It’s Taeyeon here, oppa. Come and have a drink with me.” Taeyeon answered in a drunk voice,

“Taeyeon-ah, didn’t I tell you not to talk with me anymore? I don’t want anything to do with you.” Leeteuk said calmly, “Go home if you’re drunk. I think you already have too much.”

Arasso, arasso. I understand perfectly that you really don’t have any feelings for me anymore when that dongsaeng of mine did that to you last time. I accept my defeat to that girl.” Taeyeon then said.

“And so?” Leeteuk answered, remembering the night when Sora got drunk, “You should really just go home and fix yourself up, Taeyeon-ah.”

“But are you going to let me go home by myself, oppa? I don’t think I can get a cab at my state too. Don’t you mind giving me a ride home just this once?” Taeyeon then asked. She can sense Leeteuk’s reluctance on the other line,

“This will be the last time I’ll ask of you, Park Jungsoo because I’m planning to return to Paris 2 days from now. Jebal?”

“Arasso. But this will be the last time, Kim Taeyeon. I don’t want anything else to do with you after this.” He then said and hung up his phone. He went and asked permission to his manager and Suju members to go ahead of them,

He smiled while driving going to the bar where Taeyeon is, “I think I must be thankful for Taeyeon tonight. She distracted me for a while on thinking about Sora. That quite cleared my head of negative thoughts.” He said, “I just have to support Sora on her work just like what I usually do and make her fall in love with me more.” He then grinned,

He sighed while driving and thought of asking Sora for a date on her next free day when he realized he came to his destination. He was thankful the lights in the bar was dim that no one recognized him that made him walk easily to the bar and get Taeyeon’s attention,

“Oh, Jungsoo oppa! You came just in time.” Taeyeon said and smiled at him, “Come and let’s have a drink. Sit with me.”

“Aniyo. You’re already drunk and I have to take you back to the hotel now. You’ve had too much.” Leeteuk said firmly and grabbed Taeyeon’s arm,

“We don’t have to be in a hurry, Jungsoo.” Taeyeon said when she resisted, “Why don’t I give you a deal? I’ll stand from here and come with you if you drink two shots of these.” She said and placed a shot glass of vodka in front of Leeteuk, “Just 2 shots and we’re going. Promise.”

The Fading of Bright Stars

In the years we shared work spaces, seldom did our hours crossed. She worked night shifts, while I move around across different time zones to meet the demands of my profession. She was a luminary; a survivor of countless excisions when the demands of work is lesser than what is required of human resources. And if not for the months-long infirmity last year, she would have endured the most recent culling. She became part of the statistics, only to return when a colleague flew abroad to get married and live with her fiancé.

A fine lady in her early 30's, one would easily mistake her for an East Asian. Her eyes disappear when she smiles, and her porcelain skin is the envy of many. Her gauntly frame, albeit a cause of concern, hardly bothers any. Colleagues would tell she eats nothing but Chippy and Coke. But who are we to forbid her of such pleasures? She delivers, and for all we care, satisfied are we of her job performance.

Talk is an avocation the two of us hardly engage. Reason lies in office hierarchy, but more so, because we respect each other's solitary leanings. But this doesn't mean ambivalence, or hidden disdain. Words may have never articulated what my thoughts were, but I've always regarded her in high esteem.
