Predicament

An Angel's Promise To The Sky

SINCE his conversation with Lee Soo Man, Leeteuk busied himself with the projects that are lined up with Super Junior; recording their new album, practicing for new dance routines and appearing on the shows that he is on. He also took the time to do a part time job at their family business, Kona Beans.

He only allows his body to rest when he gets to the Super Junior dorm, to be ready for the next day.

He also purposely leaves his cellphone behind to avoid himself from calling Sora.

One of the boys notice the change on his hyung,

“Leeteuk hyung, are you alright?” Shindong asked while they are having their break on one of their practices,

Mweo? I’m good. Wae?” Leeteuk said when he turned to his dongsaeng,

“Are you sure about that?” Shindong asked him again, not sure if his hyung is telling the truth,

Ne. Why do you ask?”

“It’s just that you’re not with yourself lately. Is there something wrong?” Shindong replied,

“W – what do you mean by that?” Leeteuk asked stammering with his words,

“What do I mean? Aren’t you tiring yourself too much, hyung? Don’t fool us around, we know that there’s something that’s bothering you. You can tell us what that is and we’ll help you out.” Shindong said again,

“I don’t have a problem. I – I’m just thinking about Kangin-ah. He’s finally getting out of the army soon. I hope he won’t be indifferent with us after 2 years of absence from the group.” Leeteuk replied,

“That’s a lame excuse, hyung. All of us know that Kangin hyung can easily adapt when he comes back. He’s our brother and I’m sure it will be the same as if he never left. Same goes for Heechul hyung. Nothing will change about them.” Shindong said,

“Yah! Don’t you believe your hyung, Shin Donghee?” Leeteuk retorted, playfully nudged Shindong’s shoulder,

“Honestly hyung, I don’t. If you tell me that’s there’s something bothering you then I would.”

Leeteuk sighed and his face went serious again, “It’s nothing, Shindong-ah. Don’t mind me for now.”

They both saw Donghae coming towards them holding his phone on his hand and said, “Hyung, you got a call. It’s hyungsunim.”

Leeteuk stared at the phone for a while and then took a deep breath before taking the phone from Donghae. He looked at the screen, read Sora hyungsunim and smiled sadly before putting it near his ear,

Yoboseyo? Yeobo-ya!” Leeteuk said and made his voice cheerful when he answered the phone,

Oppa, gwenchana? I tried calling you up but no one is answering your phone. I even called Jiyeon to ask about you but she told me you were busy at the shop the other day.” Sora said when she replied to Leeteuk,

“Uhh, yeah. I have been doing a lot of things lately. I’m sorry if I don’t get to call you as often as before.” Leeteuk said, trying to speak but a lump on his throat is keeping him to do so,

I miss you so much, Princess. I love to be with you… but I can’t…

Leeteuk bit his lower lip and looked up to the ceiling to control his emotions. He knows that Shindong and Donghae are staring at him even though he’s a few meters away from him.

Then he remembered what Shindong told him a while ago,

“… we’ll help you out…”

I have to try. I have to see Sora-ya no matter what…

“Oppa, are you listening to me? Are you still there?” Leeteuk heard Sora said that made his attention back at her,

“Uh, yeah. Sora-ya, let’s meet up tonight.” Leeteuk simply said to his girlfriend,

Sora noticed the sadness on Leeteuk’s voice, “Oppa, are you sure you’re really alright? I’m fine with meeting up with you tonight. I don’t have any schedules later.”  Sora informed Leeteuk,

“What do you want for dinner? I’ll prepare it for you.”

Leeteuk sighed heavily when he hung the phone down  after his conversation with Sora, he then noticed that Donghae and Shindong are already beside him,

“Hyung, have you seen your face lately? You really look like you have a big problem and that went worse when you received the call from Sora-ssi.” Shindong said, worried about their hyung,

“That’s right. Also, you haven’t charged your phone for a week now so the others are calling us instead when they need you. Is there something going on, hyung?” Donghae also asked Leeteuk,

“Shindong-ah, how is your relationship with Nari going?” Leeteuk suddenly asked Shindong about his girlfriend,

“Nari? We’re doing alright, hyung.” Shindong answered and blushed a bit,

“Aren’t you having problems?” Leeteuk asked again,

“Yes, sometimes we have but – wait, where is this heading, hyung? Are you having problems with Sora-ssi?” Shindong asked,

“Have you broken up with Sora-ssi, hyung?” Donghae excitedly asked that earned him a hit on the head by Shindong,

Leeteuk smiled sadly while looking at his two dongsaengs, “Sora and I? No, we’re doing fine. I’m just curious about Shindong and Nari ‘coz the two of them seemed to be really in love.” He then said,

“Say that to yourself. You and Sora are like us too. But I still have to work on my romantic side unlike you.” Shindong replied and smiled at his hyung,

Leeteuk smiled at his dongsaeng too and thought of Sora, “Shindong-ah, Donghae-ya… I need your help.” He then said to his dongsaengs.

I hope Sora would understand. This is something that I can’t really control.

Same as the past few weeks, Leeteuk busied himself doing his work with Super Junior doing practices and recordings before he headed to Sora’s place. He practically can’t move because of exhaustion when he arrived there.

“What’s happening to you, oppa? You look like you’re really exhausted.” Sora said when she saw Leeteuk at her doorstep,

Aniyo. I’m alright. Just a bit tired with the practices.” Leeteuk said and forcibly smiled at Sora, “How about you, Princess? How was your day at work?” he then asked to take the topic away from him,

How I miss you so much…

“I’m fine, oppa. I have already prepared our dinner to – “ Sora was about to say but Leeteuk held him close to him to hug her tight and hungrily kissed her lips,

What’s going on? Why is oppa like this?... not that I don’t mind though…

Leeteuk’s kisses went down to Sora’s neck and his hands held her tight to his body that all Sora can do is to cling her arms on Leeteuk’s neck and hug him

Sora felt Leeteuk kissing her right shoulder next then coming up again on her neck and up on the side of her chin before whispering next to her ear,

Saranghae, Sora-ya… I love you so much…” Leeteuk uttered as he whispered to her,

“Oppa…”

“Believe in me, Sora-ya… I love you so much, Princess.” Leeteuk then said with sadness on his voice,

“Oppa? What’s happening to you? Is there something wrong?” Sora asked him,

“Can we just enjoy tonight and be with each other? I want to be with you tonight.” Leeteuk said before claiming Sora’s lips and hold her close to his body.

The Fading of Bright Stars

In the years we shared work spaces, seldom did our hours crossed. She worked night shifts, while I move around across different time zones to meet the demands of my profession. She was a luminary; a survivor of countless excisions when the demands of work is lesser than what is required of human resources. And if not for the months-long infirmity last year, she would have endured the most recent culling. She became part of the statistics, only to return when a colleague flew abroad to get married and live with her fiancé.

A fine lady in her early 30's, one would easily mistake her for an East Asian. Her eyes disappear when she smiles, and her porcelain skin is the envy of many. Her gauntly frame, albeit a cause of concern, hardly bothers any. Colleagues would tell she eats nothing but Chippy and Coke. But who are we to forbid her of such pleasures? She delivers, and for all we care, satisfied are we of her job performance.

Talk is an avocation the two of us hardly engage. Reason lies in office hierarchy, but more so, because we respect each other's solitary leanings. But this doesn't mean ambivalence, or hidden disdain. Words may have never articulated what my thoughts were, but I've always regarded her in high esteem.
