Her Present... Her Past

An Angel's Promise To The Sky

SORA greeted the people inside the office and bowed to them when she entered the room, "Annyeong haseyo, manager oppa. You mentioned that you have someone whom you want to introduce to me?" Sora asked after she seated on the couch of her manager's office.

"Yes, Sora-ssi. I have grabbed a contract for you." Sora's manager replied, "You are going to model a clothing line which originated from France, but the owner is a Korean and she wants to expand here in Asia, starting here."

"Oh. Thank you, manager oppa. I will do my best on this." Sora replied to her manager. She was then asked to wait for the designer and offered coffee by the secretary.

She was browsing a fashion magazine when her manager called her and she saw him standing next to a woman who was just about her age wearing a white ruffled long sleeved top tucked inside a fitted black trousers. She is also wearing 3 inch heeled shoes.

"Sora-ssi, I want you to meet the owner of Couture d'Taeyeon, Kim Taeyeon-ssi." her manager said then turned to Taeyeon, "Ms. Kim, this is Kang Sora, the signed model for your clothing line." Sora's manager continued,

"Annyeong haseyo, Kim Taeyeon-ssi, I'm Kang Sora. Please take care of me." Sora said and bowed slightly to Taeyeon,

"Annyeong haseyo, Sora-ssi. Just call me Taeyeon. I can see that our ages are not that far from each other. You can also call me eonnie." Taeyeon said and smiled at Sora and turned to her manager afterwards, "Can I take Sora with me for awhile? I want to get to know more about her and bond with her."

Taeyeon invited Sora to have a coffee at a nearby shop, Sora ordered for a cup of Americano and Taeyeon ordered for a cup of Chocolate Latte. When Sora saw this, she remembered Leeteuk and smiled to herself,

"What are you smiling about, Sora-ssi?" Taeyeon asked when she noticed Sora,

"Aniyo, Taeyeon eonnie. I just remembered someone who also likes Choco Latte." Sora replied and smiled at Taeyeon,

"Oh, is this person special for you, Sora-ssi?" Taeyeon teased while they were taking a seat on the corner of the coffeeshop and Sora just gave her a nod, "Omo! Is it a boyfriend, perhaps?" Taeyeon asked again. Sora blushed and gave another nod to Taeyeon,

They have talked about a lot of other things like Taeyeon's life in France and the things that she saw while she was there, she also taught Sora some basic French sentences, Sora even asked how to say "I love you" in French.

"It's Je t'aime." Taeyeon replied, "I'm sure you are going to tell that to your special one. Right, Sora-ssi?"

"Ne, Taeyeon eonnie. I want to surprise him by telling I love you in a different language, not just English and Korean." Sora replied. Her father urged her to study English while in the university, her father told her that she must learn English because most countries in the world speak it and that she might use it someday.

"That must be a one lucky guy, Sora-ssi. You look like you love him so much." Taeyeon commented and smiled before sipping to her latte,

"Yes. And I'm lucky too because he loves me as much as I love him, eonnie. He always make time for me no matter how busy he is." Sora replied and blushed, "How about you, eonnie? Do you have a boyfriend?" she asked afterwards,

"No. But there's someone whom I want to reconcile with." Taeyeon replied, looking at Sora with hopeful eyes,

"There's someone who's special for you too? Ah! I'm sure you will get him back, eonnie. You are so beautiful." Sora complimented and smiled at Taeyeon,

"Gomawo, Sora-ssi. I hope I can get him back. I really want to have my jagiya back to me." Taeyeon said, "I just hope he will speak to me though when I see him."

"Waeyo, Taeyeon eonnie? If you don't mind me asking, what happened between the two of you?" Sora asked curiously,

"After we finished highschool, I went straight to college and continued my studies to become the designer that I am today. I left him for my dream." Taeyeon answered, "He went and fulfilled his dream too. I can say we had different dreams and we just drifted apart."

"Don't worry, eonnie. I'm sure your jagiya will want to have you back when he sees you now and I bet he will be proud of you too," Sora replied, "Just like my boyfriend to me."

"Wow that's good for you, Sora-ssi. That goes to show that your boyfriend loves you so much. You are making me remember my ex boyfriend because of that."

"You don't have to feel that way though. I'm sure you will be able to bring him back," Sora replied, "At first I don't get why oppa told me that he doesn't want me to be working or eating out with other guys and I found him really clingy. But I realized that I felt that way too when he went abroad for an engagement."

"Why? Don't you get to see each other often?" Taeyeon asked Sora curiously this time,

"Yes. But he makes up to me everytime he comes back from his trips. We always go out on dates when he's around but we mostly spend time with each other going out on dinners." Sora replied,

"Well, that always happens. You will know the importance of a person when you lost him." Taeyeon said sadly,

"Ani, eonnie. I didn't lose oppa though. He is with me all the time." Sora said and waved her hands on Taeyeon,

"Mianhe. I mean, you will really act differently when you miss the one you love and you get to appreciate the things that he's been doing for you." Taeyeon said, "You are like that now, right?"

"Uhh, yes. I didn't notice that really but I really got irritated when I saw him beside a girl when I watched a streaming of their engagement in Paris."

"That happens too. You better hold on to your oppa or else someone might take him away from you." Taeyeon said, "Unlike me, I should've hold on to my oppa and supported him, but instead I left him behind and told him that he will not succeed on what he has chosen."

"I hope that things are going to be well between you and your oppa, Taeyeon eonnie." Sora said and touched Taeyeon's arm lightly,

"Do you want to see my oppa, eonnie? I'm sure you'll recognize him 'coz he's all over the place. But don't tell anyone about it though." Sora said and was tapping her phone to open a picture of Leeteuk but was startled when it rang.

Leeteuk is calling her and she smiled at Taeyeon before answering the phone, "Yoboseyo, oppa?"

"Yeobo, where are you? I'm here in front of your office and your manager told me that you went out." Leeteuk said on the other line,

"Neh, I'm with the designer that I'm going to model with. We're having some coffee." Sora replied, "You can go here if you like."

"Alright. I will be there, Sora-ya. Wait for me. Saranghae." Leeteuk said and Sora replied back before ending the call,

"Oppa is coming to fetch me, eonnie. I really like you to meet my prince. You are going to like him a lot." Sora said when she turned to Taeyeon.

The Fading of Bright Stars

In the years we shared work spaces, seldom did our hours crossed. She worked night shifts, while I move around across different time zones to meet the demands of my profession. She was a luminary; a survivor of countless excisions when the demands of work is lesser than what is required of human resources. And if not for the months-long infirmity last year, she would have endured the most recent culling. She became part of the statistics, only to return when a colleague flew abroad to get married and live with her fiancé.

A fine lady in her early 30's, one would easily mistake her for an East Asian. Her eyes disappear when she smiles, and her porcelain skin is the envy of many. Her gauntly frame, albeit a cause of concern, hardly bothers any. Colleagues would tell she eats nothing but Chippy and Coke. But who are we to forbid her of such pleasures? She delivers, and for all we care, satisfied are we of her job performance.

Talk is an avocation the two of us hardly engage. Reason lies in office hierarchy, but more so, because we respect each other's solitary leanings. But this doesn't mean ambivalence, or hidden disdain. Words may have never articulated what my thoughts were, but I've always regarded her in high esteem.
