Clearing Things Out

An Angel's Promise To The Sky

LEETEUK then stared at the shot glass and glanced at Taeyeon, “Only two shots and we’re going, arasso?” Leeteuk said that received a nod from Taeyeon,

Leeteuk then took 2 shots of vodka and shut his eyes tightly when he felt the warmth of the liquid inside his body; he coughed a bit before inviting Taeyeon. “Gaja. I already did what you asked; it’s time to take you back.”

The air inside Leeteuk’s car was filled with awkwardness. Leeteuk is silently driving while Taeyeon is seated on the passenger seat with her seatbelt on, staring at Leeteuk,

Oppa…” Taeyeon started, “I can still call you that can I?”

“I guess.” Leeteuk answered, “Why?”

“What happened between us?” Taeyeon asked, not taking her eyes from Leeteuk,

“What happened? Hmm… You rejected me, went to Paris, and then became a designer. While I…” Leeteuk said but Taeyeon cut him in mid-sentence,

“While you, became Leeteuk, the Angel Leader of the best Hallyu group in Korea, Super Junior.” Taeyeon said and giggled, “Are you happy, Leeteuk oppa? You’re popular and all the girls want to be with you and the others.”

“With what I have right now; the fame, fortune and the woman I love? Why won’t I?” Leeteuk answered and smiled, “I learned to be contented on what I have and just enjoy every minute that I spend with my love one, especially with my family and Sora.”

“You must really love her very much to be able to say those things.” Taeyeon said sadly, “I wish…”

“Hey, don’t find regrets now. I know you don’t regret everything that you did.” Leeteuk said and smiled, “Just keep going and do what you love.”

“Even your way of thinking has changed.” Taeyeon said, “You seem really mature now, Leeteuk.”

Mweo? Does that mean I’m not mature? I’m already of age, you know.” Leeteuk said and gave Taeyeon a wide-eyed stare,

“Yeah, you’re practically an ahjussi.” Taeyeon uttered but Leeteuk heard it and grinned at her,

“If I’m an ahjussi then you’re an ahjumma. We’re in the same batch, remember?”

“Yeah, but don’t push it, Leeteuk. I don’t like to be called an ahjumma. I don’t look like one!” Taeyeon argued, “But do you remember what we like to do back then? Just driving around like this and have a good time, going to our other friends’ houses and watch movies?”

“Yeah, you always drag me to drive you up to Hwayobi’s place and the two of you just talk all night and you just leave me at the side of the room reading all the manhwa she had?”

“But that’s the only thing I did to you back then though. How about you? You were always with your friends up in our school’s rooftop and do dancing and stuff like that.” Taeyeon argued, “I didn’t know you had it in you to become a dancer, though.”

“I’m really good at dancing though. That’s why I became a member of Super Junior. You just don’t believe in me.” Leeteuk said, matter of factly,

“I do believe you now and I really know that you can do it. I was really proud of you back then when you were dancing with Hankyung and the others,”

“But I’m sure you didn’t expect that we will get this far from that, right? We can do a lot of things when we stick together.” Leeteuk then replied and smiled on the thought of his Super Junior dongsaengs,

“Yeah, right. But I know you will be able to do something. Honestly, not something this big though. Like being Hallyu stars and being famous around the globe.” Taeyeon commented, “When I was in Paris, some of the young girls there are asking me if I’m really Korean and when I say yes, they bow to me and greet me like, Annyeong haseyo. Amazing really and that’s because of Super Junior.” Taeyeon said and grinned remembering her experience.

“Wow I never thought that we really influence a lot of people with our music, even though they don’t understand it.” Leeteuk said and smiled, “I feel elated hearing something like that.”

“Yeah. I feel proud too when I hear someone sing Korean songs even if they don’t understand a thing. Those fans of yours are really trying to learn our language and I give them all A+ for effort ‘coz they really do sound like one when they speak.”

“Oh my G! I never really thought that I will be able to talk to you this. I think we are far better off as friends then ‘coz you’re always cold to me when I pursue you and tell you my feelings, oppa.” Taeyeon said, “I really would have to accept my defeat.” She said and smiled at Leeteuk,

Leeteuk laughed at Taeyeon’s words, “I think so too. I’m telling you, woman, if you want me to be as nice as this then stop following me like a sasaeng fan or else I would really be mean to you. Do you understand?” Leeteuk jokingly said and smiled,

“I promise. I won’t bother you ever again. I now know how happy you are with Sora-ssi and she was right too.” Taeyeon said smiling at Leeteuk,

“Right? What did my Princess say to you?” Leeteuk asked excitedly while exchanging his glances between Taeyeon and the road,

“Uhh, before I tell you that, would you mind driving faster, Jungsoo?” Taeyeon said suddenly in an alarming voice,

Leeteuk glanced at Taeyeon, silently asking her the change in her tone and followed the move of her head at the back of the car. He then saw 2 vans of sasaeng fans chasing his White Audi with one of the windows down,

“Leeteuk oppa! Saranghaeyo!” one of them shouted and took pictures of him,

“Sshi…” Leeteuk uttered as he drove away from the sasaeng fans who raced with him on the highway,

Taeyeon on the other hand, is getting paler by the minute and got hold of the headrest and the dashboard with both of her hands, “Are you always driving like this, Leeteuk?”

Ani. Only when they are around.” Leeteuk answered briefly, “I guess you won’t be able to reach your hotel room in time tonight, Taeyeon-ah. I have to lose them first before I can get you there.” Leeteuk then said and focused on his driving just like a madman,

Taeyeon just nodded silently and focused her eyes on the road and prayed for their safety because she’s well aware that this man next to her is really driving past the speed limit,

Leeteuk drove his car and hoping to cross the intersection before the stoplight turns red that made him step on the accelerator really hard that made his tires squeal.

He slightly looked up to check on their pursuers and saw that none of them were able to chase him anymore due to the stoplight. He smiled and uttered, “I’m getting really good at this.”

“Oppa! Watch out!” Leeteuk heard Taeyeon scream and when he looked at the windshield, he saw that his car is approaching another car and they are about to crash,

He instantly turned to his side and covered Taeyeon’s body before hearing the scratching of two metals and windshield being broken letting him feel some of the shattered glass as it pierced through his body,

“Not again…” he uttered and closed his eyes shut while his consciousness are drifting away from him,

“Sora-ya, saranghae…” he said before losing his consciousness completely.

The Fading of Bright Stars

In the years we shared work spaces, seldom did our hours crossed. She worked night shifts, while I move around across different time zones to meet the demands of my profession. She was a luminary; a survivor of countless excisions when the demands of work is lesser than what is required of human resources. And if not for the months-long infirmity last year, she would have endured the most recent culling. She became part of the statistics, only to return when a colleague flew abroad to get married and live with her fiancé.

A fine lady in her early 30's, one would easily mistake her for an East Asian. Her eyes disappear when she smiles, and her porcelain skin is the envy of many. Her gauntly frame, albeit a cause of concern, hardly bothers any. Colleagues would tell she eats nothing but Chippy and Coke. But who are we to forbid her of such pleasures? She delivers, and for all we care, satisfied are we of her job performance.

Talk is an avocation the two of us hardly engage. Reason lies in office hierarchy, but more so, because we respect each other's solitary leanings. But this doesn't mean ambivalence, or hidden disdain. Words may have never articulated what my thoughts were, but I've always regarded her in high esteem.
